This is why I do all my (considerable) hardware and lumber shopping at Ace, either in Heber or Mesa. I'm done with the big box guys unless absolutely necessary.
Yeah...I’ve known some folks that will drop a lifetime retirement sized bundle on audio gear.
The 2nd guy’s turntable probably is well into 5 figures. You get into some exotic woods in speakers and you can indeed spend six figures. I’d debate how much better it sounds in such a small space, however. If you’re going to be that close to the speakers, may as well just get a really good set of planar headphones, which will probably sound better than those speakers.
Good point, I really didn't think about it but the acoustics in that room must be awful negating how good the speakers are. I would really rather have decent speakers in a room with good acoustics than the best speakers in a room with poor acoustics.
If you get some decent equipment from respected manufacturers, you can get 90%+ of the sound they get. It’s that last 10% that will take trailers-full of money to achieve. Price of diminishing returns.
Power is power. Electricity isn’t good or bad power. It’s just electricity. If you have such wide fluctuations that will affect the sound of your stereo, you should probably move. If you’re tapping directly into a transformer, you’re not going to be able to protect yourself against equipment frying spikes, regardless of the power conditioner you’re using.
Heck, the little $150 system I put together for my bedroom I mentioned a month ago sounds worlds better than any $300-$400 Bluetooth speaker system at Best Buy.
I wonder how much difference you would actually notice with 100% over 90%+.

Yikes! plausible, but I think that was hyperbole to drive book sales. On the other hand there are robots now working supermarket isles without incident. That might be luck or the supermarket robots travel at such a low speed to cause damage in the event of a collision. Here is the 7 minute video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBak2myCWuw
Really? I mean really? AI uses the same things we use to identify something, shapes.

I presume there is a hefty reserve, but I cannot imagine the market for this is very large. The owner has been involved in the restoration of this car since 1966, when he was 16. "Why?" is an interesting question that wasn't really answered in this video. It's too bad he wasn't wearing a microphone.
I was doing some shopping at Lowe's yesterday afternoon which, in and of itself, is a task to behold, much like shopping at Home Depot. I was looking for light bulbs - fluorescent tubes as well LED bulbs for my lamps. Not being very familiar with the layout of the store, I asked one of the floor workers where I could find light bulbs and fluorescent tubes. He scratched his head and said, "...if you walk the aisles, you'll eventually find them!!!" Rather than be rude with him or ask him further questions, I decided to seek out help from another floor worker. I guessed the guy was new on the job and hadn't figured out where things were.
I ran into another floor worker and asked the same question - where can I find LED light bulbs and fluorescent light tubes? Interestingly enough, he too scratched his head and suggested that I ask someone else. So, I was 2 for 2 - inane and ill-informed employees working in the same store at the same time. So, I chalked up this last interaction to being a new employee who was no yet familiar with the inventory and where to find things.
I walked a little further down the store and found another floor worker - but this one couldn't have been more than 17 or 18 years old which I thought was a positive since the 2 other guys were well into their 60's or even 70's. I asked the young man where I could find fluorescent light bulbs and LED light bulbs. He looked me straight in the eye and blurted - "....you're standing right in front of them, sir - here they are - what kinds and what sizes are you looking for?..."
Now, the shoe was on the other foot - I was the 70+ year old who had no idea where he was or where to find what he was looking for! My face obviously turned beet red because I felt flushed all over and totally embarrassed.
I thanked the young man vociferously, like, "...oh thank you so very much - it seems the older I get, the less I see or hear!" He responded, "...yeah, my dad is in his 40's and he has the same problem - getting old can't be much fun!"
I broke up laughing hysterically! I told the young man, "...wait until you get into your 40's - you'll be over the hill by then!" He responded, "...no I won't - I'll be running this store or another one like it before I hit 30. I have a photographic memory which is why they hired me - I know where everything is in this place!" I then said to him, "...after I get some of these light bulbs, I will need to use the bathroom - can you tell me where it is?" He scratched his head, much like the other floor employees did, and said, "...I know where the employees bathrooms are, but I have no idea where the customer bathrooms are - you'll have to ask someone else for directions!" That's when I decided I had done enough shopping at Lowe's - now all I needed was to find someone who knew where the bathrooms were!!!! 🤪😜🤓
By the way, this is a true story - I did not embellish the experiences one bit. And yes, I did finally get directions to the customer bathrooms - after all, there was no way I was going to make it home to use my own bathroom - after all - I'm 76 years old!
That’s funny and generally so true in big retail establishments. I’ve even had run ins with clueless or rude workers at Lowes but not always.
I was looking for an item that I had never purchased at Lowe’s before so I asked an older guy at the counter. He seemed to know exactly where they were and as I headed off to look a younger guy volunteered to show me. We had to go all the way across the store but he stayed with me until we found the item. I was very impressed with their helpfulness.

Nice car. Interesting design, it looks older in the back and newer in the front. I suspect that from the windshield back it was built by the custom shop and the front end is factory Caddy for 1939.

I've noticed lots of newer employees here in the frigid north as spring hires are being added as the economy of the few years is rebounding from the lockdowns. In Lowes, I have good success asking for a manager, which is one of the assistants. I indicate I'm willing to wait until he/she can work up to the service desk. The main manager can be found, but is protected as "head coach" most of the time.
In Home Depot here, I've found the employees try to avoid eye contact so you won't be invited to ask them a question. LOL
Both stores have apps to download to your phone. Each of the lets you look up the type or exact item and can use your phones location to pick a store. It then can show the aisle the item is on and the bay within that aisle.
Happened to catch the main manager at one of our favorite Lowes across town in the patio furniture area and my wife told him they need to put regular shopping carts outside the garden center along with the low cars and the hauling carts. Many older people shop there during the weekdays when we do and some use the higher handles of grocery store carts to aid in walking as they come in to the center. The lower handles on other style carts don't work.
We have stopped at that store looking at flowers and plants several times since that and there always are grocery style buggies outside. A store manager who listened to customers.
For over a decade I've looked up the real manager at the closest Lowes to tell him when he has employee problems. The manager changes every couple years. Never helps for long.

Just wondering if I am the only one but, I can admire a few of those really old cars, but my interest in cars begins with early 1950s cars and my real interest picked up in the mid to late 50s - I like 57 Fords, Chevys and Plymouths/Dodges. Those are the cars I grew up with so I identify with them, I wonder if the value of older cars will hold up.....and maybe 50s and 60s cars will become more valuable.

This begs the question, have you ever been mistaken for an employee at a store? I have on a few occasions, I usually come back with a snappy response and most people realize that they made a mistake and we all laugh it off. One time some lady went to complain to the manager, I should have gone with her just to see how that conversation went.

Wonder why he chose BaT is the sales avenue to offer his car? I can’t help but think there has to be better, more focused venues to sell it, and probably get more money.
Indeed, most monied xoomers and techies cashing in their winning lottery tickets couldn't care less about an unusual bodied large prewar car. It'd fare better at a traditional auction, and even then, might have been worth more 30 years ago.

Got my response to the 'The View' segment. Camera's are less effective for facial recognition when it comes to darker skinned people, also darkness in general. According to a CNN Business report this was 1 of the Mustangs driven by Steve McQueen in Bullitt. "In 2016, [the owner] said, he reached out to Ford and had the car authenticated by an independent Mustang expert. Documentation, including the letters from McQueen begging to purchase it, along with alterations made to the car for filming -- such as holes cut into the trunk for power cables -- backed up the car's authenticity." Sold at Mecum auction in January 2020. It was the 21st car added to something called the National Historic Vehicle Register. Not sure if it was added due to the movie fame or the hammer price.

Truck drivers phoned the Talk Radio station today and said a truck driver would know if they were pushing a car along...you would feel the drag. Some said there are blind spots, but they are always checking those. She could have done something....changed lanes, changed her mind about an exit etc., but all the truck drivers said there was no excuse for her being pushed 450 yards.

I may have missed something but it looked like the truck in front cut off the car and then the second truck went into the lane to the left where the poor car driver was causing him to try and avoid both trucks and ending up being pushed by the second truck. Truck drivers know they have blind spots but they have ways they can check them.......the way I see it the two truck drivers were the ones at fault. In the Toronto incident the car was pushed 450 yards. One truck driver who called TalkRadio said he thinks the car did probably cut in front of the truck, but the truck driver probably got road rage and hit the car and kept going to make a point.

RE: Dump Truck and the Mini....it seems to be the truck drivers fault.....allegedly: Courtenay Erhardt, 26, was heading toward Bathurst Street on Tuesday morning to administer COVID-19 vaccines at a city shelter when a large dump truck rammed its front grille into the driver’s side of her vehicle, pushing her small car sideways up the Jarvis Street ramp at Lakeshore Road and onto the expressway for half a kilometre. The incident began when Erhardt was waiting for the traffic light to change so she could start up the Jarvis Street ramp. “I was in front of him at that stoplight. We were both trying to get onto the Gardiner. “He hit me from behind when we were merging,” she told the Star. “I was screaming and crying at the same time. Why wasn’t he stopping? I’m thinking, he’s either going to run me over or I’m going to go over the guardrail by the Scotiabank Arena. I’ve never been in an accident before.” Toronto police have charged the dump truck driver with several driving and commercial motor vehicle offences. His name has not been released.
They said the Mini may have saved her life...the low center of gravity may have kept it from rolling over.

Looks like driver was well protected by airbags since it looks like it landed on the hood and roof somewhat upside down. Mostly a frontal impact for the airbags.

"In 2016, [the owner] said, he reached out to Ford and had the car authenticated by an independent Mustang expert. Documentation, including the letters from McQueen begging to purchase it, along with alterations made to the car for filming -- such as holes cut into the trunk for power cables -- backed up the car's authenticity."

In the Toronto incident the car was pushed 450 yards. One truck driver who called TalkRadio said he thinks the car did probably cut in front of the truck, but the truck driver probably got road rage and hit the car and kept going to make a point.

Now you're starting to sound like driver100.
Courtenay Erhardt, 26, was heading toward Bathurst Street on Tuesday morning to administer COVID-19 vaccines at a city shelter when a large dump truck rammed its front grille into the driver’s side of her vehicle, pushing her small car sideways up the Jarvis Street ramp at Lakeshore Road and onto the expressway for half a kilometre.
I’ve never been in an accident before.”
Toronto police have charged the dump truck driver with several driving and commercial motor vehicle offences. His name has not been released.
They said the Mini may have saved her life...the low center of gravity may have kept it from rolling over.
