I don't hear much Nascar talk on here but yesterday was the make-up date for the rained-out dirt-over-concrete races at Bristol. It seemed to be on most of the day, first the trucks, then the cars after a short intermission. With nothing better to do on a cold windy day outside I had it on a lot of the time. I remain absolutely baffled as to why it was done or what the attraction to it is. There was virtually no grip by anyone and so it was a wreck-fest early on until the drivers figured that part out. Then later on the mud and the dust got out of control and it was constant yellow flags. It really wasn't until the last 20 laps that a handful of cars separated themselves from the mess and were able to sort of compete at half speed. But all in all it was like watching mud dry. Inexplicably, Nascar is proclaiming it a success and announced they will do it again next year. I just don't get it. It seemed more like an old Wide World of Sports demo derby from Islip NY than a race.

Well we have to be, to progress like we did it takes brain power and that requires a lot of protein to support. The best sources of proteins are meats. In order to get meat we have to be aggressive to hunt it down and kill it. If we stayed vegetarians we wouldn't have progressed anywhere near where we are today.
So does that mean vegetarians aren't as intelligent?

Did a little Genesis shopping after @abacomike's purchase.
Two local dealers have 0 G90s. North Cincy near GG had 4 and
Dublin had 4 (upscale Columbus suburb).

This one in red I'd like to see in person. Wheels look different
than Mike's wheels. But it has a black interior. I think Genesis
has strange labels on their interiors...

I have a 2021 G90 brochure in front of me as I write this post. It shows only 2 available wheels - the one in the photo you posted and the wheels on my car. Both sets of wheels and tires are the exact same sizes - 19 x 8.5J (front) and 19 x 9.5J (rear) - tires are P245/45R19 (front) and P275/40R19 (rear). There is no difference in tire and wheel sizes in the V6 and the V8 version of the car.

I prefer the spoked alloys that I have.

Which brings up something I experienced when I opted for the S450 over the S560, and again on the V6 twin turbo over the V8 in the G90. I drove both versions of both cars and found that there was no need for a V8 due to the high torque and 365 hp in the V6. The 3.3 Liter twin turbo delivers all the power you could need on the interstates.

My friend met me at the dealership yesterday and he loved the car so much he bought one for himself this afternoon. He paid cash so he got the same deal I did.

The 6 or 7 Genesis dealerships down in my neck of the woods (South Palm Beach County, Broward County and Miami/Dade County only have 5-8 G90’s in stock, most of them being V8’s.

They don’t build many of them for export to the US. The port of entry here on the southeast coast for Hyundai/Genesis is Brunswick, GA, same as Mercedes and many other imported vehicles.
One thing I just noticed on the G90 is that the tires ARE NOT RUN-FLATS! They are regular all-season tires which accounts for the smoother ride.
What does your spare look like?

Got my snow tires/wheels swapped out yesterday. The OEM Bridgestone RE050 run flats were down to 3mm in the rear and I didn't want to buy a replacement pair of them as I didn't like them at all - harsh, noisy, and very darty on the highway, almost unsafe sometimes. So I coughed up for a set of 4 Michelins, their new Pilot Sport All Season 4 model. Like them so far.

I think Hyundai made a mistake by allowing the Genesis to be sold in the stores with the Hyundai products.
These are the two stores in Dayton: on SE and other North side. Neither store says Genesis as of
    date of streetview capture.

I'd have to drive by each to see if there now is a sign. I don't recall seeing
one so it's not very prominent on the Vandalia store to make me recall that it's
there. My son's Toyota dealer is next door to the other Hyundai and Kia which is the Genesis of Beavercreek Twp. and I don't recall seeing "Genesis" when I drove by them to take him
to pick up his Venza. I'll check the front of one when I hit the Friday night cruise in in a week or two close to it.
And I'll check the other today or tomorrow.

I have not yet had the experience of sitting in the Genesis/Hyundai Service Department's waiting room with the "hoi polloi" (common Hyundai folks), however I am certainly looking forward to that experience after so many years of sitting with the "elitist" Mercedes Benz folks. I can see it now - kids running back and forth; vending machines all over the waiting area; no free bagels or coffee or donuts; a "greasy/oily" smell in the air; people talking loudly on their cell phones to their work or their parents and/or boyfriends/girlfriends; cars washed but not dried and no Armorall on the tires; dirty chairs with grease stains. Ah, yes, I can't wait!

But wait - I own a G90 - I'm supposed to have a concierge make arrangements to have my car picked up and a loaner delivered and the car returned after it is serviced. When I see it, I'll believe it.

That would be a huge selling point for me. I would insist on them providing concierge service on a car like that.

It's been well-known that Hyundai corporate royally botched the Genesis rollout and subsequent dealership assignment. I don't know where it all stands right now. No Genesis signs on the two dealers here either, though I know they sell the Genesis line at both.

Wow full ride scholarship! Congrats to you and your son. 3 years ago a hhc nurse brought her 18 y/o daughter to meet me during a scheduled visit. And proud mama let me read the award letter for her daughter's full scholarship to NU health science program. She told me that it was only 1 of 3 awarded to out of state students. Good luck to your son. 2021 looking pretty good huh Mike?

I sure hope so, omarman. My grandson has been through the mill. First, he gets a scholarship to a college in Nebraska. He doesn't get to pitch in any games all year long - so he quits the school and enrolls in Riverside City College. He gets his AA degree, but he hasn't been able to play baseball out there in California because of the pandemic. He finally got 1/2 his wish to come true and he gets into UC San Bernardino, Division II NCAA school. He wanted to get into a Division I school, but since there have been no college games being played out there, no scouts were around to see him pitch. Luckily, my son had hired a pitching coach to work with my grandson this past year while they were studying courses virtually. The coach then worked with several scouts and even though he has not faced batters in a real game in almost a year, the head coach gave the OK for the full ride scholarship. If there had been no pandemic, he would have been playing baseball and scouts would have seen him pitch - and he would have got into a Division I school - i.e. Santa Barbara, UCLA, USC, UC San Diego, UC Davis, etc. I am praying that he gets a good look from scouts this coming season so he gets his dream to come true.

Ab, how come your new tires are light gray?

Hyundai is closely associated with "Genesis" at these two stores. Is that where you want to buy your
    $75000 premium automobile?

    Genesis of Beavercreek

    Genesis of Vandalia

I've just become a snob about my daily driver! Yuck!!! :@ :oB)
Don’t get too comfortable with the concierge idea. Those are composed of a lot of rent-a-car drivers picking up extra hours. :s
Concierge service for the Genesis is a brilliant idea....then the service areas can be minimal garbage dump buildings and you will never know.......smart planning!

No corners on a tire, they're round... :D
    So you are saying it.

Help me out here ... is that ... a Hyundai Pony?? Sitting there on display as if it is an attraction to the dealership?
I do believe it is. They have to be careful as it looks like the front bumper is slightly over the curb. If someone cuts that corner to tight they will hit that car and could cause up to $10 in damages.

If the service department gets crowded, they might put your Genesis up here for service.

Yes, they had one as a novelty act there for a while. Not sure where it came from as they all went away ages ago (though some held on longer than the early '70s Japanese imports which lost floors and fenders after 3-4 years in the salt here). I remember there was a news story about it at the time but I can't remember if it was an original car or one that someone had restored for whatever reason.

EDIT: They claimed it was a trade-in and maybe it was, who knows, but they never looked this good from new.

All right everyone - I just got some news from my son in Palm Desert, CA, about my grandson - you remember, the 6'3", 215 lbs, blue-eyed, blond haired 92 mph fastball pitcher - he just signed his commitment letter for a FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP at the University of California, San Bernardino (Division II NCAA School) as a pitcher. He will be a junior as he just earned his AA degree from Riverside City College. For housing, he will be living in the athletic housing area (they are all apartments) across the street from the main campus in San Bernardino, with all his meals included.

This kid has been through the ringer with the situation out there in California and the fact that the campuses have been closed for so long. No athletics, etc. According to my son, the head coach who signed him up stated that he will probably be there one year and he will definitely be drafted by one of the major league teams due to the change in his pitching mechanics thanks to the coaches that have been working with him privately over the past year. Only time will tell and with God's help, he will stay healthy and continue improving.

What a relief, my posting buddies, what a relief!!! :oB)

Boy, that’s great news Mike. Especially with the disruption of the last year.

Had a rough day with the Genesis dealer’s concierge as well as Genesis corporate. I have been trying to get my car to connect with Genesis Connectivity (their OnStar or Mercedes Me) but to no avail. The concierge guy said it must be trouble with the satellite but every time I press the connect button, it “instantaneously” gives me a response that the connection failed and to try again later. I’ve done this over 30 times in the last 2 days.

The concierge checked on his computer and stated that my info was, in fact, registered on the Genesis Connect module at Genesis. If it was a satellite problem or a phone problem, it would have taken 5-10 seconds to fail rather than immediately displaying the failure to connect message.

Since this does not affect the drivability of the car and it isn’t a safety issue, I am not going to grit my teeth and run over there and rant at him. He told me he had a call into their technical people to try and determine if the problem is with the satellite or if it is isolated to my car.

So I’ll give him until Friday to sort this out - if he doesn’t, I’ll go rant!🤪😜🤓

From what I’m observing it is the high tech connectivity features that are giving many heartburn across manufacturers yet the vehicle runs and drives fine. Very frustrating regardless.

Nearest Genesis dealer to me is probably a near 5 hour drive in average traffic - no wonder I never see them.

Hyundai Pony will always be in my head as the car(s) used as the basis for the "Hummer" built by Red Green:

Canada also got the Hyundai Stellar, which was never sold in Murka.

Just wondering if people will buy cars like a G90 when the lease is over in 5 years. They could be costly to repair with all the electronics and special features that could go wrong. Could they be like new TV sets, too difficult to repair?
Can it take a licking and keep on ticking like a 2008 Crown Vic?

My car needs and desires have radically changed as I have gotten older. When I was an 18 year old, I just wanted wheels to take my girlfriends out on weekends and to get me to school on weekdays.

When I was in my 20’s and 30’s, I wanted speed and handling and thrills. When I was in my 40’s and 50’s, I wanted styling and sophistication. When I got into my 60’s and 70’s, I wanted status and luxury.

Now that I will soon be closer to she 77 than my current age 76, I am looking for safety, smooth ride and easy handling and plush seats and interiors - ambiance! But most importantly, I need and want my car to correct my mistakes when backing up, changing lanes, and accelerating and stopping and turning. I am not as spry and flexible as I used to be - thus I want nanny features and a great sound system.

    Voila - welcome Genesis G90! 😜🤪🤓

    Abacomike,
I would check you tube. If you have this problem, I am sure someone else had this problem. Do you need to go into settings to allow connection, need app on phone which will also allow connection, and due they have the right VIN of your vehicle.

Yes, worth checking youtube. When we got our 2013 Audi A4 they couldn't program Bluetooth for about 4 days. There was a glitch and they were waiting for Head Office to give the dealer some updates.

If this is a new generation then may not find stuff on forums or youtube. I suspect maybe need a software patch.

    Abacomike,
Make sure dealer set up everything right such as correct VIN and even settings section in car.
