Maybe there should be a restriction on texting and walking. We followed a chunky middle aged chick down the sidewalk to the beach. She was wearing a one piece that-unfortunately-left little to the imagination. She could not walk and text at the same time so she would pause to text, blocking the sidewalk.
Which reminds me, you know the signs that say, “You Must be This Tall to Ride This Ride”?
I think beaches and pool need a sign that says,
“You Must Have a Body Mass Index of Less Than 30 to Wear a String Bikini”
    That is all.

When I am walking and want to text I always stop, but I am self aware enough to make sure I am not blocking anyone. Not to stop is just inviting danger.

Maybe you wouldn't have ever had a problem backing in during your lifetime.
And didn't someone knock off a mirror when backing out?
That is something that happens to people quite often....not very often when pulling out frontwards though :)

Let me get this straight, I’m not taking credit for Mrs. j’s whacking of mirrors when she’s backed out of our garage. One way or the other backing up has to be done. It would be even worse if she backed into the garage. Hell, if she backed in I’d have to join the “whacked mirror of the month club”. So I’m damn sure not going to suggest that. That just ain’t gonna happen. :@

    jmonroe

I knew it was Mrs JM that hit the mirror, but I was too polite to mention her by name, she has enough problems I imagine. But, I back into my garage every time at home, and I think it is easier to gauge the mirrors when backing in than it is if I was to back out. It has to do with watching my parking space through the rear view camera, but glancing at the position of the mirrors as I back in....I can see where they are lining up to pass the frame around the door....I don't think people watch that as much when they back up.
I hear about lots of people hitting mirrors on the way out of a garage when backing out, but few who hit a mirror going frontwards out, and very few hit a mirror when going in.

I know what you mean. Every time we go to the beach Mrs. j says, “we should come here more often. Seeing that makes me feel pretty good”. We’ll be going again this August, I know I’ll hear her say that again.

About 40 years ago I had the opportunity to go to a nude beach, and I was very excited at the opportunity.

There were quite a few people there, but almost zero women that I really wanted to see nude. And some that I wished I could unsee.

    Can’t blame the car. Haha.
Some folks use them for status. Some don’t care about the status but rather the actual luxury. So they ALL can be about something other than status, under certain owners.

When we went to France the little town we were at had a beach where wearing a top was optional. I came to the realization that some women should not go topless and some men also shouldn't go topless.

My brother is dating a woman who is a “spiritualist” - belief that spirits communicate with the living! But the form of spiritualism she espouses is the belief in reincarnation. She resides in central Florida but is actually from Brazil. She speaks 6 languages and is employed as a translator.

She is considered by her spiritualist peers as a medium and makes contact with the spirit world. I told my brother that if things begin to fly around in his house or that he begins to communicate with spirits, he is welcome to stay with me until a “shaman” cleans his house of all his spirits including his 400 bottles of wine and liquor. He feels that it’s important to give her “space” to practice whatever she believes in.

She was born in Europe so I asked him if she attended Hogsworth! I advised him to treat her with dignity and respect if he wants to avoid hexes and spells! 😜🤪🤓

You don't get COVID by getting the vaccine. There's no virus in it, but your immune system will then know how to fight the virus if you're exposed. Thing is, being vaccinated isn't a guarantee that you won't be infected, but it's much less likely. And if you DO get infected, it's less likely to be symptomatic, and very unlikely to land you in the hospital or kill you.

The worrisome part of the latest guidance is that, unless the vaccine is better than guidance was suggesting for most of the spring, ditching the masks now seems a bit early for those who are just now getting the opportunity to get vaxxed. By the time Kentucky goes back to full capacity on 6/11, pretty much anyone who is still unvaxxed has made that choice, so I'm good with that sunset even if I am a little concerned that things are prematurely loose right now.

Historically, vaccines were created using dead virus cells or augmented virus cells. The body’s immune system would then attack the virus which created antibodies. Those antibodies remain in the immune system for an undetermined period of time. Examples would be poliomyelitis and smallpox. Some vaccines require booster shots to maintain the immunity levels.

COVID-19 vaccines are different from previous virus vaccines in that they do not contain dead or augmented virus cells, but rather contain DNA of the virus. Antibodies are then developed in the immune system based on that DNA. It is likely that a booster shot will be administered to those who have received the first 2 shots in order to extend the body’s ability to develop antibodies against the original COVID-19 virus as well as variants of the virus.

That's not a convertible, that's a sunroof. Anyway I don't know any mechanic named Tony.

When we were looking it was specifically for a convertible and within certain specs, under a certain mileage and age as well as certain models were a no go from the start (like the 500 you have there). The 428 convertible we got was way underpriced and was one of the lowest-priced used convertibles that fit our metrics. It being a BMW was just icing on the cake.

Nope not really, I am not saying I am a virtuous person because I don't spend any more on a car than I have to. I could have spent a lot less by not getting a convertible or by compromise but I didn't. A snob would be someone who flaunts it or needs to have the "better" car.

And while I do own some antique watches none of them are very expensive. While they may cost more than your garden variety Timex store sell more expensive modern watches all the time.

A few spots to touch up, but pretty good for the first application.

It does look good. My success rate with growing grass from seed is maybe 10%.

I always used to blame the seed I used, though I tried all kinds of different types and brands. Despite copious watering it often resisted germination. On a number of occasions I did see germination of things other than grass, things like creeping charlie and other noxious weeds, which I attributed to the box-store bagged lawn soil being treated poorly and carrying those things in it. Yet every now and then despite doing nothing different that I could tell I would get a bumper crop. It remains a mystery. I am more likely to purchase sod now and be done with it.

My unmarried and fully vaccinated daughter feels reborn again and wants to make a post Covid-19 career move to some place other than the Northeast. She asked for my opinion and I flippantly said, why not move to the Greater Phoenix area. Having never been to Phoenix or any of the Southwestern states for that matter I wonder how good is that advice. She has a degree in Marketing and has several years of progressive experience in the marketing field.

If you are familiar Phoenix, can you share what the job prospects and housing options are for a naïve young woman stepping out of her comfort zone? The only thing she knows about Phoenix is that it is hot and dry and very expensive to fly into and out of the city. I wouldn't mind visiting myself but I really don't know where to start except for the hype I see on YouTube.

    Thanks much!

Phoenix is huge. I lived there in the early 80's for college and the metro area was 1.5 million then. Can't imagine how many folks live there now - I look at a map and see how much the city has grown. I've got friends and family who live in the area - mainly the southeastern suburbs.

And, I understand it isn't as dry there now as it used to be - all the people and vegetation that's been added has raised the humidity level from "bone dry" to "eh, it's not so bad". Plus, the monsoon storms in the late summer.

What field is she in? She may also want to consider Tucson - it's 1000' higher in elevation than Phoenix, which shaves a few degrees off the temperature. And, it's not quite as large, population wise.
Thanks @Michaell and ab348. From all evidence I've seen and read, Phoenix is indeed a sprawling city, in fact it is the fastest growing city in the US. I saw a video clip where the governor boasted that Arizona was once known for the five Cs -- Copper, Cattle, Citrus, Cotton and Climate. Now, he says you can add three more -- Cars (electric), Construction, and Chips (semi-conductor manufacturing).

Another commentator wrote, that the extreme summer weather has a deleterious effect on cars. Perhaps, this might be an overstatement, but he said if your car windows aren't tinted the windshield is likely to crack, not to mention the fading and cracking of leather seats. Also, car batteries are generally replaced every other year and tires have a short life span in the desert heat; the more reason to consider leasing than buying under these circumstances.

All these factors are well known, yet people still keep moving into Phoenix. What gives. I guess, the nine months of relatively good weather far overshadows the oppressive summer heat. Now, only if I could convince my daughter to summon the courage to take a career risk and give Phoenix a look see. I know I would enjoy visiting her *regularly* and work on my golf game.

Why drive a bmw 428 convertible when this one would have sufficed?

That's not a convertible, that's a sunroof. Anyway I don't know any mechanic named Tony.

When we were looking it was specifically for a convertible and within certain specs, under a certain mileage and age as well as certain models were a no go from the start (like the 500 you have there). The 428 convertible we got was way underpriced and was one of the lowest-priced used convertibles that fit our metrics. It being a BMW was just icing on the cake.

It's like you know what old age is? It is always 10 years more than you are now.
You know what kind of car a snob drives? One that costs $3000 more than the car I am driving now.
It's like reverse snobbery....I am such a good virtuous person because I don't spend any more than I have to on a car. Don't you have some very expensive watches and clocks....that doesn't count as excessive, .....hmmmmm, are they a necessity?

Don’t go pulling that bit about not spending more for a car than you have to, to get some pretty nice luxo stuff. I’m the one that put you up to that. :@

Light watering twice a day with light straw on top so you can see through the layer to the dirt has worked for me best. Too much moisture causes seed not to germinate right.

Use Scotts Step 1 for newly seeded lawns. It's expensive but it has weed killer and crabgrass preventer in it to keep the weeds from germinating along with my seed. Apply lightly and repeat in week to keep killing weeds.

Also check date on package of grass seed. Year old stuff in stores has lost some of its germinating percentage. And don't store grass seed next to bags of fertilizer with weed killer in them or next to Halts pure granule bags. The fumes seem to neuter the grass seed. Guess how I know.

Dad used to germinate crop seed and clover seed between layers of paper towels, just keeping them barely moist a couple times a day as a way to check on the quality of the seeds he was going to plant.

How do you rate snobbery based on a guy who makes $80k a year and drives a $70k Audi, and a CEO who makes $2 million a year and drives a $100000 BMW M5?
The Audi guy is using a higher percentage of his income to but a car than the BMW guy....so who's the snob? Maybe, just maybe having a car with certain features is more important to the Audi guy. I would say unless you have proof someone shows signs of being a snob, we should default to accepting that he bought the car he prefers. Calling someone a snob because they have an expensive car just sounds like jealousy to me.

How long did that take to grow venture? Ours was done a week and a half ago and we are getting a light fuzz now. Poor Trixie can't go out in the back until it gets about the same length as your grass in that picture.

Oh jeez,,, I have a missing person case that will likely turn into a murder. One of the suspects made incriminating statements to an acquaintance who claims to be a Wiccan. In another murder I have an eyewitness who thinks he can see/read "auras". I hope I never need to call either as witnesses...

I have a question for you guys. How many phone numbers do these extended car warranty companies have? Just for grins I decided to write down the numbers a few weeks ago from these companies that call and leave a message. I think I have 8 numbers written down. Just got another message from a different number from what seems like the same female voice I’ve head before.

Audi guy might also be single or a DINK and has the available cash flow, especially if he lives in an area where housing isn't bonkers, or he had lucky timing/birth. Not having dependents can open up some spending doors.

On the snobby ideal, I know it is an old trope, but it is funny how a showy 70K car can be snobby, while a 70K showboat truck is some kind of bootstrapping blue collar man of the people hero, while in reality both can be operated by virtually identical people. Badge snobbery is also amusing. I recall maybe 15-20 years ago, Lexus fans in particular would snicker at other highline cars/owners, saying they only bought for the badge. Yeah, the same can be thrown back to them simply by saying "Toyota".

The phone number that shows when you receive a call can be "spoofed". Telemarketers will sometimes "fake" or "spoof" a phone number in your local area to make you think the call is local. In reality, most of those calls originate in India or eastern Europe and are relayed via VOIP through a computer server somewhere in the US. Florida is where most of the computer servers used for relaying are located.

The FCC tries (but apparently not very hard) to track down those relays and shut them down. Even when they do shut one down, a dozen more will pop up overnight.

That's about 4 weeks. There was quite a crop after 2 weeks though. Starter fertilizer is your friend.
I forgot to say - I mowed it right before taking that picture yesterday. It was a little shaggy.
