A guy was on the news complaining his new Ford truck he ordered in early March may not come in until the end of the summer and might not be until next year because of the chip shortage. He doesn't have his old car and the dealer has his $25000 deposit...trade in money. He is thinking of suing Ford!

A couple of hours ago, my wife showed me a video of some people we know who had their dinner at the picnic table interrupted by a bear,
I put it's front paws on a chair and was eating whatever they had for desert.
One of the kids lamented "Ohhh that's my favorite".
Just now I heard one of our trash cans go over.
It was a bear. I yelled at it and clapped my hands, so it just took the trash bag up the street.
We back up to the woods at our campground. My wife always asks if there are bears in there. I said I’m pretty sure that bears don’t live 3 miles from the ocean! I hope I’m right.
Well when I was in Alaska I lived right on the coast and at times saw bears within sight of the ocean.

Can you imagine how much the value of his trade has gone up since March? The dealer is probably laughing all the way to the bank.
In other news I hear that an apartment building in the Miami area collapsed last night. I immediately thought that this was Mike’s latest misfortune.

I need a little advice if I may ask. It's about our dog, he is a Shih Tzu that we had in our family for around 7 years and we think he is 11 years old give or take a year. In a previous home this dog was abused and as a result has some serious anger issues. His last home they had a baby and didn't want the dog with his tendency of aggression around the baby. They couldn't find anyone to accept the dog so we took him in. Now with the issues that the dog has it is difficult to interact with him. He has to be sedated to be groomed or taken to the vet and it has gotten to the point where to get him groomed we have to have the vet heavily sedate him and groom him, groomers will no longer work on him. Kennels want to avoid him due to his aggressive behavior and we have to use a dog walker that has experience with special needs dogs to watch him when we are away. The last time we were away the dog was very aggressive towards the dog walker he no longer feels safe taking care of him.
Now the poor dog also has gone blind and developed a discharge around the eyes that he fights us when we try to clean his face. The vet has advised us to let it go until he gets groomed or visits the vet because it's not good for the dog or us for him to keep fighting us. He even fights us when we use the sedatives' that the vet gave us. Due to all of this and his condition my wife has been talking about putting him to sleep but I have been resisting that until now. The dog has gotten worse in his behavior and actual is starting to snap at me in situations where before he was tolerant of me.
Now it's to the point, and has been this way for a while, where all we can do is feed him and let him out. We cannot care for him in anyway without either sedating him heavily or having him fight us and risking injury to us and/or the dog.
So now I am at our wits end and don't exactly know what I should do. We simply cannot go any further with him and he does need attention that he makes difficult, if not impossible to do and we have no one to care for him when we are away. I really don't want to take the next step but I don't know what to do at this point.

That’s a tough situation. We have an 8 year old Shih Tzu who is as calm as be except when you try to clean his ears or apply some ointment to a hot spot.
My suggestion would be to see if a local shelter has any foster parents who are equipped to handle him. Otherwise I don’t think you have much other choice for his quality of life. Being blind is only making the aggression worse IMO.
From watching the training shows on TV that my wife likes to watch, it might be possible to train the dog to be calm but would take an expert to change the learned behavior. The bad reactions are behavior that sometimes are reinforced when they happen again.
In my humble opinion, it's time to put the little guy out of his stressful situation.
Snake, I do dog rescue so have seen a lot. It is hard but sounds like he is suffering. In my experience, when you ask that question, you already know the right answer but just hate to think about it.
Sounds like you have gone above and beyond for the poor little guy, but it’s time to give him some peace.

I am calling the local human society this afternoon to see if they have any advice. But my dog walker, who is actually my neighbor, says that they are having a had time finding enough foster families for the dogs.

Early in pandemic, there was a surge of people getting dogs. Now that the world is opened up, too many suddenly find them inconvenient and want to give them back. Terrible.
Agree with what others have said - sounds like a combination of abuse, pain, and not being able to be aware of surroundings is making him aggressive and a danger to you and others. As @stickguy said, you already know what to do - and I don't think anyone here would fault you for it. You can channel all of the energy you have been putting into him into rescuing another pup who may not have a chance otherwise.

sorry to hear about this, @snakeweasel. I am a diehard dog lover, and am very good with dealing with them. Actually, all animals. My wife and all her family call me the animal whisperer. lol. But, I'm particularly fond of dogs. A decision like this is impossible for me without knowing the dog firsthand. Blindness and aggression are certainly a bad combo. I'd have to know he is really suffering, personally, though. There are way too many variables when it comes to behavior. Anyway, only you and your family can truly answer the question. I wish you the best of luck and peace in your decision.

You'd be surprised at how many little old ladies have a gun in a paper bag, or in their purse.
There are a lot of cars out there with guns in the glove compartment. I have encountered that a few times, accidentally. Riding in the car with a friend, and he or she says, "Look in the glove compartment and give me some Tums." Guess what is right on top in there?

My one daughter is a huge dog fan. She has mostly had boxers. Her husband decided to add another boxer to the family so he got a rescue that had been abused. At first the new dog was OK. Slowly it got more and more aggressive.
She eventually had to get it put to sleep, after the second time it bit her to the tune of 12 stitches. She is still sad about it 2 years later, but knows it was best for everyone involved.

I didn't want to mention it, but my DIL is a seasoned veterinarian now in her pet clinic. She has had some sad stories about pets and what people go through deciding to have them put to sleep. I put myself in the position of feeling like the poor dog must feel -- if I were a confused elderly person who knows they're confused and not coherent but not able to change that realization, and I add onto that the burden of being blind or seeing little to help orient myself to my surroundings.

Are you saying if you feel that way we should see to it that you are put down?
@snakeweasel I sympathize with you completely Snake, we had to put down Coco when she was 14 and then Gigi when she was 15....and they are like family after all those years. It was difficult, but they would have died awful deaths if we didn't put them down....sometimes it is the kindest thing to do.
All the comments you got are good ones, Shih Tzu's probably live to be 15 under ideal conditions so 11 or 12 is pretty good considering....in my opinion you have gone above and beyond the call of duty, I don't think the dog is having a good quality of life and it is hard on you and Mrs Snake (if I can call her that?).
That does lead into a question I have thought about, how much do you spend on a dog? I know of several people who have spent $5000, one fellow had a dog that was blind and had diabetes, he spent $10000 and had to give insulin shots every day. I would probably spend about $5000 or $6000 if the dog was under 5 and if it's quality of life would be at least 80%. It is hard to think about your pets life in monetary terms, but it is also considering quality of life terms as well.

Each individual has to answer that question for him or herself. Too many variables, including your financial situation. Earlier this year, one of my dogs suffered a hip dislocation. Two different veterinarian clinics would not try to relocate the hip, but the big vet hospital did the job for $2k. They warned me there was only a 50-50 chance at long term stability, but it has worked out well.

Exactly. Our younger Dachshund had IVDD and needed surgery and physical therapy. Probably close to $7K all in, but she was still pretty young and had a lot of life left in her. She's 12 now and going strong.
In fact, both dogs are going in for a dental cleaning in August, which will be $1-2K, all in.

That condo building collapse is in Surfside - which is on North Miami Beach intracoastal at around 80th Street and Collins Avenue, north of the old Fountainbleau Hotel. It was built in the 1980’s and used to be at the center of the wealthiest area of North Miami Beach, but is no longer a preferred residential community.
That condo collapse is truly sad and upsetting. Somehow a video captured it collapsing. It looked like it started in the middle of the building, the roof sagged then fell straight down taking all the lower floors with it which then caused the far south side to collapse. Makes you wonder how many other buildings are structurally compromised.

Probably quite a few. Florida has been improving its standards and codes for decades (starting with Andrew, then every bigger hurricane brings more updates), but the enforcement is often clearly lacking. Between rotting Chinese drywall a few years ago entire new developments being built against zoning and periodic construction frenzy (especially in Miami Dade, but other places, too) and general low quality of labor, it's no wonder something like that happens. BTW, Florida is not alone in this, there are plenty of other places with similar problems. I watched a report suggesting that Australia had a streak of serious structural failures and downright collapses of caused by corrupt residential construction practices and hidden design errors that reveal themselves past warranty periods.

The CDC even writes about the made-up "Halo" effect nonsense of automated enforcement. However, at least the CDC admits there are some studies showing the effect is NEGATIVE, rather than POSITIVE, in that adjacent nearby intersections and streets might have MORE collisions because people might be so angry at the speed cameras they become "emotionally" driven, literally, pun intended?

So if you guys are writing up the Police Report, do you write the cause of the collision as:
A) Driver Error - Unsafe turn/lane change, fail to stop B ) Running from the Police/Evading/Eluding C) Reckless Driving D) Speeding (ROFL)

Please define a "price a sane person might actually pay".
Your asking a request to define a price a “sane” person would pay - you are asking the wrong question on this site - no one is sane enough to figure that one out - not here! 🤪😜🤓. We’re all car nuts so we would consider anything if the car fits the need!
Mike is undoubtedly correct (he usually is), but I will still provide my opinion of "price a sane person might actually pay". My answer: In no case more than MSRP. No dealer add-ons, no mop-n-glow, no add on surcharges. MSRP, plus sales tax, plus a reasonable doc fee.
Around here, such a deal cannot be found on a Mustang GT, or a new Ford or Chevy pickup. There are very few available, and every single one is going above MSRP. YMMV.
OK, I checked the first Stang on the list that came up. A GT coup Premium with the 5.0 liter TI-VCT V8 with a 10 speed Auto in Race Red and a sticker price of $47,600, it's listed on the web for sticker. What they may spring when you walk in the door is anyones guess. but it does look like they are all going for sticker.
In my experience, which is pretty wide and goes back a long way, dealers NEVER talk about the mop-n-glo or nitrogen filled tires or any other such nonsense in their online ads. There is always fine print which says the advertised price does not include dealer add ons. Check it for yourself.
You do love to correct people, but this time it is you who's got it wrong.
I did state that what they spring on you is anyones guess and I cannot vouch for many of the dealerships but one I do know and I know they are not known for dealer add ons.
Speaking of which I wanted to burn a little bit of time and I was close to a dealership that I have done business with and trusted so I went to look at SUV's/CUV's as my wife wants to replace the Sonata with one after we pay off the BMW. However this dealership was sold a few years ago and is operating under a different name. The new ownership doesn't get good reviews. Anyway you should see the dealer add ons they had on all the cars. One year of key replacement insurance, one year of dent and ding repair, one year of windshield nick repair, floor mats and an app based anti theft thing. All in all it totaled around $2,500. The first three I see no real value in them, the mats I could better for less than half and the last I could get it for a lot less than what they were asking.
If you were @andres3 that key thingy wouldn’t be such a bad deal.
jmonroe
I'm sure if you lost the receipt the dealership would "forget" you ever bought replacement key insurance/coverage.

For those who care: UPDATE on my real estate lottery experience. We had our inspection this last Wed. on the house we placed under contract. Needless to say that it was shockingly bad how the hidden parts of it had been maintained in an otherwise upscale home and location. It was so bad that we had to back-out of the purchase. With our present house sold, and the buyer’s earnest money having gone “hard”, we were essentially homeless. No worries though as we live in a resort area with plenty of VRBO’s and rental apartments available during these hot summer months. We located some of these as well as a storage facility. Then….we made another stab at a place we previously had placed an offer on that was rejected by the seller. This time, after compromise on both our sides, we made it happen. In addition, inspection-wise, things checked out well. Among other things it has a new $17k roof, newer HVAC’s and has been beautifully maintained, gorgeous pool, etc. Unless something unexpected comes up, we will be moving in just under 4 weeks. The place is larger, newer and a step-up from our current one, plus we get to pocket some bucks. The downside is that it is more expensive than the rejected place and the location is nice although less convenient.
Congrats Will. Tried to email you but you must have a new email address, since it has been a while. It's a good thing you had a good inspector and that he found all the problems with the first house. Looks like it all worked out in a best case scenario. Enjoy your new home.
( I emailed you a while back about a change in email address. Please double-check, otherwise I can get the new email address to you.)
No luck. I probably missed it someway. Just drop me a line at my same email I have always had. Thx.
@houdini1, very weird as your email address is not popping up for me either in my mailbox address book. I cannot figure out a way to send a private message on this site. Anyone know how with the newer format here?
@snakeweasel, let me add myself to the multiple dog lovers here who’ve expressed their opinion on your sad situation as a dog dad. I agree that you’ve given the pup many wonderful years and now you have to be his best friend, consider his quality of life, and not let him suffer any more.

We back up to the woods at our campground. My wife always asks if there are bears in there. I said I’m pretty sure that bears don’t live 3 miles from the ocean! I hope I’m right.
Well when I was in Alaska I lived right on the coast and at times saw bears within sight of the ocean.

In other news I hear that an apartment building in the Miami area collapsed last night. I immediately thought that this was Mike’s latest misfortune.

Open carry isn't restricted in most states. Most permits are for concealed carry. Those restrictions have been eliminated in my area, unfortunately.

In my humble opinion, it's time to put the little guy out of his stressful situation.

Sounds like you have gone above and beyond for the poor little guy, but it’s time to give him some peace.

Very sad, as others noted, giving him peace may be all you are able to do.

She eventually had to get it put to sleep, after the second time it bit her to the tune of 12 stitches. She is still sad about it 2 years later, but knows it was best for everyone involved.
It's not an easy decision.

I would probably spend about $5000 or $6000 if the dog was under 5 and if it's quality of life would be at least 80%. It is hard to think about your pets life in monetary terms, but it is also considering quality of life terms as well.

It’s about 35 miles southeast of where I live.

I'm sure if you lost the receipt the dealership would "forget" you ever bought replacement key insurance/coverage.
