I was talking to a friend at a baseball game tonight. He said his Hyundai (I think Sonata) just stopped on him a few days ago and he had it towed to the dealer. They called today and said they are going to put a new engine in it under warranty. He said it has 100k miles on it.

I get what you are saying. I doubt he ever changed it himself.
The part that amazed me is he is going to keep it after the engine is replaced. I knew he always had a high tolerance for boredom, but I found out he has another, older, Hyundai with over 100k miles.
What is wrong with keeping it after the engine is replaced? I kept mine after the engine was replaced, should last me some time longer. Nothing wrong with that.
He has a chance to change out to something more exciting, but decided to stay with what he has. That is what's wrong.

Sometimes people take pride in keeping a car going for as long as possible. Not my thing but some older cars that are kept up look pretty nice. I have a friend who kept his red 2005 Saturn Vue going up until about a year ago and I think it was a great looking SUV....nice clean lines and big windows...he had over 250000 miles on it.

Very nice...no charge. Mrs D100s GLK had a nail....patched it but did charge, though it is 6 years old and out of warranty. Nice when they can patch it, so you don't have to change 2 tires, but your mileage is probably low enough that they could have changed one tire.

Yes - I only have 2100 miles on the car and it turns 5 months old at the end of the month.
Got a call from my doctor this afternoon and he said he spoke with the specialist and they both agreed that an injection of steroids into the L4/L5 foramen (tube that carries nerves from the spine to the body) would probably be the best alternative at this time.
I spoke with the specialist also this afternoon and he and his staff are arranging a time and date at the outpatient clinic for next week sometime. I have to stop my blood thinners for 3 days prior to the date of the procedure. He also stated that he can sedate me for the procedure which I prefer - I don’t want to know what’s happening.

Each time I had those injections of steroids into my spine, I also was sedated and was the best way to go. Woke up later in the recovery room not remembering a thing except getting to maybe 95 on my count down to 0. Over those years, think I had about about 10 injections and only helped for a short while, I'm still using my cane everywhere I go and it's now just a part of me! Am a bit tired of the constant pain though the opiads I take do help somewhat. Would rather be pain free but that's just never going to happen!

I have to wonder how quality might suffer if they struggle to have enough workers on the production line.
Probably depends upon how fast they run the line. If you have half as many workers and run the line at half the usual speed it shouldn't be too awful. I just wonder how you make that all work if people are doing tasks that they normally don't do.

Last night my wife and I watched the sub movie Crimson Tide from 26 years ago. Starring Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman, we thought the movie stood the test of time pretty well, although obviously there is a lot of unrealistic Hollywood stuff put into it to make it dramatic. I think the sub in the movie might be a Los Angeles-class vessel, which means it would have cost about 1.5 billion in today's dollars.
I rarely watch movies, but earlier this week I rewatched The French Connection (1971) with Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider. Aside from the famous scene with Hackman chasing the subway train under the El, what I enjoyed most were the many street scenes of a very different and very gritty NYC than what exists these days. And of course cars are central to the plot. Just really well-done.
One of the scenes I had forgotten was the scene in a nightclub with this Jimmy Webb song being performed live by The Three Degrees, just very much of the period. In looking it up on YouTube I discovered it was originally recorded by Thelma Houston and was commissioned for the Apollo 11 launch.
I just checked my credit card activity. Yesterday I charged a couple of things and added a nice tip to each. When I look at the activity, the 'tip' amount is not reflected on the charge. Each time, the cashier looked at the signed receipt and said 'Thanks!' Kind of strange.

Are the transactions still pending? You might not see the tip included until they officially post.
Usually when pending you won’t see the tip. After it posts it will be there.
Ironically I was just going over my CC statement and a fully posted restaurant bill was missing the tip. I know I wrote in $20, but it’s not showing. Wonder what happened as I’ve never seen that before.

Oh, oh, the chip shortage has taken a turn for the worst.
According to Vox.com/recode, "The problem has gotten so bad that some chip shipments are being stolen by smugglers.
Fraudsters have even started selling counterfeit chips to dupe smaller electronics makers.
Now, there are growing sales for special X-ray machines to identify those counterfeit parts, according to the Journal." Yikes!
That shouldn't be a problem as the tire is under full warranty. Nevertheless, I feel your digestion pain that you go through with new cars.

2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
Yesterday I charged a couple of things and added a nice tip to each.
When I look at the activity, the 'tip' amount is not reflected on the charge.
Each time, the cashier looked at the signed receipt and said 'Thanks!'
Kind of strange.
