I get this survey which they say is from Mercedes Benz. At Mercedes-Benz USA, we're committed to our customers and their safety. To help us better serve you in the future, please take a few moments to share your thoughts about the Takata airbag safety recall.
The results of this survey are for market research purposes only.
By participating* in this survey, you will automatically be entered into a sweepstakes sponsored by Mercedes-Benz USA. Win 1 of 4 $500 e-gift codes from a selection of retailers and charities.
To view the official rules for the sweepstakes, please click on Official Rules.
The survey will take 5-7 minutes to complete. To start, simply answer the question below.
If I answer the questions it goes to: survey.research-w4187@sendyourfeedback.com
I suppose it is legit if they have MB written on it, but then again I get fake emails from banks with their logo on it. And why do they have a survey about Takata airbags?
I get 10 of those a week. I once started one which seemed from a store I shop but as I went farther into it the questions began to sound suspicious so I never completed it.
At the very least your email will be spammed forever.
They might start sending more spam but wouldn't they only do it if you actually filled out the survey. Aren't they trying to weed out the people who fall for their scam.

Yesterday was the day of my latest medical procedures. Survived, obviously. Woke up at 4AM and after a while decided to just get up fully as there was no way I was going to get back to sleep. Had a cab reserved to take me to the hospital and was impressed at how well that online booking worked. Arrived a few minutes early.
Here I pause for a rant at how poorly our health care system's client-facing processes are designed. [rant on] I went to the location indicated on my paperwork to register upon arrival and did so. It said to take elevators to the 6th floor. There is a bank of elevators adjacent so I got on one. It only goes to the 5th floor. I try the adjacent one; same. I get out and ask the one person on duty at that time of day. She directs me down a long, meandering corridor that is the full length of the complex to what was originally a separate building. After a pause to rest partway along (Hey, we've got heart patients, let's send them on a hike!) I find an elevator that actually goes to the 6th floor. While I'm waiting another fellow and his wife arrive who are going to the same place.
We finally get to the 6th floor and it appears deserted at 0630. We see a variety of homebrew 8.5x11 laser-printed signs tacked to the wall offering directions to various places. One says something about Cardiac so we agree to follow it. We go right, right again, left following the signs. The next sign sends us back the way we came until we are standing across from the elevators again. Geez, us. Finally we hear a murmur of muffled voices and follow the sound to find a waiting room with 10 other people inside, the only humans we have seen. We found the right place.
There is a large entrance lobby right where the proper bank of elevators is found and we could have been directed to arrive there. But in their wisdom TPTB decided to pull the registration kiosks out of that lobby some time ago and make everyone register elsewhere before setting off on the Long March. Cripes. [rant off]
After a rote Covid screening and taking of forehead temps we get assigned to rooms. I'm sharing with an 85 y-o fellow who is in just terrible shape. He and his wife took the bus down from a town about 100 miles away at 4AM that morning so I guess I should not complain. We strip, change into the ill-fitting hospital apparel, answer a bunch of questions, get examined by various medical folk and get an IV installed. Then we wait. A brown paper sack is delivered with breakfast: a piece of Cracker Barrel medium cheddar, a sippy box of OJ, and the smallest, saddest looking muffin I have ever seen, containing 2 cranberries. I already had breakfast so I leave it on the table. Low-bid food for sure.
My number comes up fairly early and I am wheeled down to the cath suite around 1030. Having been there several previous times they appear to be having a slower day than usual as it is almost empty except for a few staff, who are all pleasant and friendly. Soon I am wheeled into the actual suite where it is done and meet another new crew who are equally congenial. I will spare the details of all that except to say that I always find it funny how they strip you naked of the hospital shirt and then place a loincloth over your manly bits before draping you with the usual OR sheets. We talk about pain control and anesthesia; they murmur something about Fentanyl and I heartily agree, having had it before. Sadly, it never comes over the next 90 minutes or so when I am being examined in a way I've never been before. They are apparently doing just about every measurement possible inside me. It wasn't painful in itself, but my bad shoulder really began barking partway through and I could have used something for that. Eventually it ends, two young nurses back in the waiting part of the cath lab lean on the two wounds in my groin area for 20 minutes to make sure they are not bleeding, and then back to my room I go.
This is the worst part, flat on your back for 3 hours with no movement to make sure the holes in your femoral artery do not reopen. It was dull and boring but I listened to music on my phone and the time passed. Then another hour or two where you could move around carefully as the doctors came in to discuss the findings. I had not eaten since 0530, and a nurse asked me if I'd like a sandwich. I asked what kind, she replied "All we get is egg salad". Not wanting to be violently ill since I cannot eat egg salad I passed and ate my sad sack breakfast. Then I saw both my cardiologist and the cardiac surgeon who operated on me a dozen years ago. They are both scheduled to see me in 2-3 weeks in more detail in their clinics because I apparently have a very difficult-to-fix problem. Not what I expected to hear but at least it is now known. So we wait some more.
@driver100 AND mjfloyd1, Here is another episode of 'Caught in Providence'. It's too bad the first guy feels so scared.
What I don't get is the first guy, made a right turn on a red light without stopping it seems. The judge let him off because they said you couldn't see the stop sign. Didn't he make a right turn without stopping and the light was red? This judge is too easy on some people. In the second one I think he did the right thing, he let the young guy pay the original ticket, no charge for ignoring the ticket since he didn't receive it.
I noticed a corner the other day where the STOP sign was completely hidden by tree branches. Fortunately I knew that corner had a stop sign, but if you didn't know that you could miss it completely.

Be safe and stay out of harm's way.
You’ve been listening to the weather hype station, haven’t you? Every time the wind blows they tell you to hide under the bed.
The shame of it is that this storm coming into the gulf coast may be a powerful storm but because of the previous hype people may not listen.

Maybe its all hype but Hurricane Ida is expected to become a historic Category 4 storm for Louisiana. People along the coast have less than 36 hours to prepare. Fè atansyon.

At least you had pleasant staff. I took my wife in for laser eye surgery yesterday and a more abrasive bunch I’ve never seen. My wife can barely walk thanks to several strokes but after sitting her down some woman runs over and says sit on the other side of the room because this side is for people who are already done. I pointed out her walker and told her it was very difficult for her to just jump up and move. This generated a sign and the woman left.
I checked my wife in and found out that we didn’t have all the required documents ( MY proof of vaccination) even though we brought everything we were told to bring by phone the day before. The attitude seemed to be that I was stupid because THEY didn’t give us complete information.
By this time I was getting a bit perturbed so when I was helping my wife stand up and a nurse ran out and demanded “who are you?” I snapped back that I was the guy who was making sure she didn’t fall on her face because none of you seem to care. I told them that I would be waiting outside and give me a call when the procedure was done.
A half hour later I see this same nurse running around the parking lot and ask if she’s looking for me. She says your wife is done. I asked why they didn’t call me and she just repeated that my wife was done in an impatient tone. As I drove my wife home she said that after they left the waiting room the nurse asked her if I was an abusive husband.
And I get to have that same wonderful experience again in a month.

Glad you made it through the ordeal. And yes, you do have a difficult to fix problem. But then again, your cardiologists seem to be very capable. Give praises to your free national health care system that attempts to provide expert care to all patients. Vive le Canada.

Last evening I tried to have it call Mrs. venture, but it wanted to find a route for me. When it asked the third time where I wanted to go I said, "Bite Me, Utah". It plotted a route to Bethel, Alaska.
Since you’ll be up that way maybe you could say hello to our poster buddy @xwesx.

I've mentioned this before, but years ago I was test driving a new Lincoln(only in order to get a $50 gift card and because the dealer was making a donation to Food for the Poor for every test drive). I don't remember which model it was, but the sales guy was eager to show off the "new" voice recognition system; he said "Tune to FM station nine seven point five." The Linc replied, "Now tuning to gay radio station." My son and I couldn't stop laughing, my wife just shook her head, and the sales guy just turned beet red and said not a word for the rest of the drive.

A couple of weeks ago I was meeting a friend for lunch and was picking him up at his office because he was carless that day. As I was driving to his location he texted me that he was ready to go any time. This appeared on the Caddy's CUE screen with an option to reply. It has a number of predefined messages and I saw that one of them would serve my purposes, so I picked that and off it went.
About 10 minutes later I am almost there and he texts again that he is going down to the lobby. I wanted to tell him I was 3-4 minutes away. No predefined message for that though. I thought I remembered being able to do a voice-to-text response in my 2014 Caddy, but this had no such choice. All I could do was use the keyboard on the screen to type something which I obviously wasn't going to do while driving.
Later that day I looked into my question. It turns out that CUE used to have that capability, so I wasn't hallucinating. But GM removed it sometime in 2017 for "safety reasons", which escapes me. It was removed from vehicles that had it in an update of the software later that year. Makes zero sense.

Maybe the nurse was not trying to assume that you were her husband because of an age or appearance issue? I’ve made the mistake of asking if someone wanted their mom to give them a kiss before surgery because of a large age difference. It was really their spouse. There was no recovering from that faux pas. It lead to a 5 minute rant about how age was just a number. Now I ask if they are related and let them answer.
Some places are required to ask if a patient “feels safe” at home. Perhaps this was just a poorly worded version of that. I shake my head when they ask the patient the question in front of the relative/ caregiver. They can’t answer truthfully if they are abused.
I’ve also learned never to ask about tattoos- nothing good come of that
A lot of hospitals have been added on to so I see how that could be an issue. Ours has 4 additions but we are moving to a new location 12/5 they say but I suspect it will occur after the new year. It is going to be a goat rodeo. They say they are staffing both the old and new hospital but we don’t even have enough nurses to fully staff our current hospital. We have 150 traveling nurses (locums). We are only running half of the ORs because the recovery room is half filled with non Covid ICU patients because the ICU is filled with Covid patients- sadly all unvaccinated (apparently by choice which we all agree is different than being unable to get vaccinated).

I hate driving a car that doesn't let you program the navigation or send/receive a text unless you are stopped. I can understand locking out the touchscreen, but you should be able to accomplish those tasks with voice recognition if it's available.

@bwia, Everyone knows everyone. One of my brother in laws works in the court system. I lamented to him that a place I used to buy parts from closed down. He was like, XWY?. He got divorced, sold both his locations(1 in CT, 1 in GA) and moved to Florida. OK.

I think the car companies are watching my posts very closely, looking for ideas. Remember how I stated I like large windows. I was passing a new Audi Q7 this morning, and I noticed the glass area is huge.
@ab348 That sounds like a tough day, imagine if you had to pay for that procedure...and the other ones you have had. Our system is far from perfect, but at least you won't go bankrupt trying to pay for a medical procedure....in most cases.

Locally, the hospital group here has suspended all non-emergency surgery, due to antiva and a moron contingent, especially from across a certain state border, as they claim to hate this city and state, but flood in here when they need something. When one thinks it can't get worse, it can. Good luck on your recovery.

I’ve also learned never to ask about tattoos- nothing good come of that
Good advice about handling certain topics. Recently a woman asked me "Well how old do you think I am?". Oh boy, it is going to be hard to survive that one. If I go under she will think I am trying to flatter her, if I go over I will be in big trouble, if I am right on she will be upset that I didn't think she was younger......the only safe answer I could think of was I am terrible at guessing ages so I won't even try.
Nearly 6 figure pension, 1MM in stock, 1MM in 401k, crapton in equity. I want to see this guy's career path, so I can copy it. He needs to buy some lottery tickets, as he's had some luck.
I'd pay off the mortgage just to say I own it outright.
This question is for our financial experts. I cribbed it from Yahoo Finance.
"Dear MarketWatch,
I am considering paying off my mortgage. I am 60 years old and have a $250,000 mortgage on my home. The home is worth $950,000. The mortgage payment is $2,800 a month on a 30-year loan. The interest rate is 3.875%, and I have 24 years left on the loan.
I live in a high tax state. Taxes are $1,200 per month. The home is in good shape and needs no major repairs. I plan to work until I am 67. I will have a pension of $8,000 per month. I now have $1 million in my 401(k) and $1 million in company stock. I will have to sell stock to pay off the house.
Should I pay off the mortgage now, or wait until I retire after 67?"
Before reading MarketWatch's response, proffer a response of your own. While not doing the Math and taking the taxes into consideration, commonsense tells me that paying off the mortgage is probably the prudent strategy. Read the full article at:
The ex-wife was a real coincidence. The next guy was interesting because he has no concept of what is true and what is a lie. I like the way these judges have a sense for figuring out who is lying and who is telling the truth. In a few of the legal thrillers I have read, what it comes down to is, the defendant's lawyer can't believe anything they say.

The Linc replied, "Now tuning to gay radio station." My son and I couldn't stop laughing, my wife just shook her head, and the sales guy just turned beet red and said not a word for the rest of the drive.
I have a repeat story too about the voice response system in my Genny. Maybe it’s because I never use that system so the system doesn’t recognize my voice but in reality I don’t think it has a large enough vocabulary. Here’s why:
A couple years ago I saw a car about 3 cars in front of me doing some very stupid things, like jumping from lane to lane and cutting people off while doing this. When I see this type of driving I back off and give them plenty of room. I see traffic backing up in the left lane so I move over into the right lane. This lane jumper see’s this later than I do and jumps into the right lane but this time almost gets hit by the car in the right lane. This caused traffic to almost come to a compete stop in both lanes (lots of screeching brakes). I blurt out, “you dumb SOB”. I guess I bumped the voice button on the steering wheel jerking the car a bit to right because I hear it say, “please repeat command”. Why should a supposedly advanced system not understand a simple 3 word phrase.

congrats. That is a nice looking place. Pretty cheap too. I need something like that to split time once we get out of NJ. Need to convince the wife to get smaller and cheaper up north, and put the rest toward something like this.
I assume you can rent out when you are not using it? Shouldn't take too much to cover the annual carrying costs. My desire would be rent in the peak summer months, and snowbird in the winter.
@qbrozen , that looks pretty good and all the finishes inside seem fresh. Unusual way to accommodate a refrigerator. There's an interesting price history on it. I assume the dip was due to the interior not being refreshed at the time.

I hope it gets better…
I suppose all that could be true. Perhaps the staff acts like that because they get yelled at by someone higher up if they don’t keep a tight lid on things.
Maybe they thought I was her father. My wife would love that explanation.

I can confirm that the Audi Q7 had a huge glass area. You can reduce the glass area by having a school bus ram into the rear end
Yes, they put A LOT into it. Everything is new from 2017-2018, and it looks like they barely used it, and it was never rented during their ownership. Move-in ready and fully furnished. OK, I could do without the pink dressers. But otherwise everything is fine.
Yes, they allow short-term rentals and pets. Those were both strict conditions for us. No, we won’t allow renters to bring pets but want to bring our own dogs.
On the vehicle side, I need to shop for a golf cart. Makes a ton of sense to have one there since they are allowed on all roads 35 mph and under. So we need ONLY the cart when staying there to do everything we need to do. What I do not yet know is what exactly is considered a cart. I am also trying to find out if one is ever allowed on the beach.

so, spent some more time working on cleaning out the basement today (the wife actually wants to move now, so finally has the incentive). Even got rid of 4 boxes of her college textbooks and notebooks finally (and we are pushing 60, so you can guess how musty those were). Something I never thought would happen.
I was able to get stuff away from the old wall unit that serves as my AV graveyard and cleaned that all up. and realized how much of that I have collected. counting the equipment sitting with one of the 3 TVs, I think I have 4 receivers, 4 DVD players, 2 CD players, 2 VCR/CD combos, a turntable, and a tape deck.
Pretty sure I need to thin out that collection prior to moving.
of course, I actually use none of it. a few pieces are in their boxes (the turntable and tapedeck) there rest are just gathering dust.

being near the kids is a good thing. Only reason I am willing to move back upstate NY, the family is there. Plus global warming, winters are not as bad as they used to be!
Very nice. From what I hear about Myrtle Beach property, units rent easily in the Summer for obvious reasons but the beach off season is a haven for golfers.
Being you’re a Jersey guy what made you go down South vs. buying in Jersey like our poster buddy @tjc78?

Very nice and I like the New England exterior green color. However, at $224k for 920 sq. ft., it is double the price of only 4 years ago. It is a bit small and cozy as well but it is a vacation home after all. Enjoy!

Be safe and stay out of harm's way.

Locally, the hospital group here has suspended all non-emergency surgery, due to antiva and a moron contingent, especially from across a certain state border, as they claim to hate this city and state, but flood in here when they need something. When one thinks it can't get worse, it can. Good luck on your recovery.

I can confirm that the Audi Q7 had a huge glass area. You can reduce the glass area by having a school bus ram into the rear end
I see a flip in the future
Thank you.

Ask TJC. He probably just sold his along with the campsite. But pretty sure you can't bring it on the beach.

She set up a tour of a house for sale a week from Sunday.
being near the kids is a good thing.

Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

I'm not sure she's coming back.
Jersey shore is a getaway for NY’ers, for one thing, so not a place I like to be. Plus, the season to use it is quite short.
