Don’t worry about Mary Bara. All she has to do is to snap her fingers to one of the whipper snappers and say:

“Garcon, bring me a brand new Bolt EUV in the same color as my original. Make sure this one has four smoke detectors installed as well two fire extinguishers filled with propellants (a la James Bond) and a fireproof suit under the driver’s seat.”

Problem solved and GM comes out smelling roses.

I’ve also been kicking around the idea of a small wagon of some sort. Seems like the cost wouldn’t be much different. Like… ok, hang in there with me … a Honda Element where I chop off the top.

But I don’t know the rules down there. I assume a real car would require real car inspection, reg, etc. So maybe I wouldn’t be allowed to chop off the top.

Ugh. Well, speaking of appliances (as we usually do), our 17-yr-old washer finally gave out. I could probably fix it, but seems a fool’s errand. It made a god awful noise last night and stopped spinning. I dragged it outside and opened her up to find this. And that was after finding out the outer lip of the drum case was worn through.

This looks like a cloth washer, not a dishwasher. These typically last a bit longer, but 17 years is good anyway. I've has my Frigidaire tumbler washer since 2008, still going ok, though noisy, so pretty good run. But to be fair, since I'm single, it has not worked nearly as hard as any of those serving families with children.

I would really look into it. There are different rules about licensing, being able to drive on sidewalks, safety inspections. 6 seaters tend to be big and long. I don't know how safe these things are, so I don't know if you want to drive around with 6 in one of them. I have seen them in Sun City where there are lots, people drive them and let their dog run beside them on a leash.

I think the front-loading washers, like ours, likely have a shorter life expectancy. Holding up all that weight from the side is not nearly as easy as doing it from underneath.

And, yes, we’ve raised 2 boys with it. Lol. It has led a rough life. Just ordered a new one from Costco. Won’t be here for 9 days, though. Oh well.

we are on our 2nd front load washer. When we (hopefully soon) move I plan to leave it behind, assuming the new people want them! I think about 7 years old now at least (time, is fuzzy these days). Look nice, still work, but likely not cost effective to move them, and I am not confident the move will do them any good.

Point of this, wife wants no part of another front load, so we plan to get a top load HE unit (no agitator) instead. At least no more moldy door gaskets to deal with!

We tried a top load when we moved, and I left the front load with the renter. Wife HATED it. Said it didn’t clean the clothes well. So when our first renter moved out, the rental home got our brand new washer and I brought the old one here.

I just received an email from UPS or FedeX (can't remember which) indicating that delivery on my 58 pound recliner from Wayfair is expected Sept. 8.

However, I could not help but notice that it says the package will be left on the front yard in its original packaging. I will be responsible for unpacking and assembling the chair as well as disposal of the shipping packages.

I thought this was a joke but my wife says the shipping company no longer enters your house. Their responsibility ends with delivery in your front yard, rain or shine. What gives, is this the new normal? So much for free shipping.

I ended up doing a special order for the Michelin CrossClimate tires, even though the Costco tire guy halfway talked me out of it. He said because the CC tires are directional, and can't be cross-rotated, if your car's alignment is off the tires wear unevenly and turn to junk. And so I'll just make sure my alignment is A-ok at the Acura dealer. He also said the Defenders just last a lot longer. The CC's also cost ten bucks more a tire, and given that they don't last as long the price per mile delta is obviously bigger than that. But then when I thought about driving my daughter from Columbus to Louisville in December, and then back to Columbus in January, I decided I wanted that three peak mountain snowflake rating. The Costco guy admitted that in snow and rain the CC tires would have better performance. Anyway, more than you probably wanted to know, but they are being installed on Wednesday, and I'll try to give a little report on them after that. I did get 46,000 miles out of the oem Goodyear Eagle tires, and so I feel like I got my money's worth out of 'em.

You will have keep us appraised about how your new tires work out.
New tires do take some miles to work in.
I know you feel like you are taking a chance with a tire that is a new design.

you made the right call. The car is going to be at least pushing 90K on it by the time either tire wears out. So get what you want, and if over 3-4 years and 40-50K miles you spend an extra $200 to enjoy the drive, money well spent!

Also, I thought places did not cross rotate any longer. Just did front to back on the same side. Which is what car companies called for. Definitely have to on the directional tires.

When the bearing went on the dryer I simply replaced the whole thing. Parts are so hard to come by that it’s not worth the trouble. Same with the no crank/no start Hyundai Elantra stuck in my barn. I went to 3 different auto parts to find a starter relay which turned out to not be the problem.

The only victory I’ve had recently is my window air conditioner which started leaking condensation in buckets down the inside window sill. I took the case apart and hosed a lot of sludge out of the interior. Now it runs better and doesn’t leak.

@benjaminh Congrats on doing the research and actually buying those tires.
I don't know about the Costco guy, usually tires made for snow won't last as long because they have to be softer to grip the road....you can't have everything. Who cares about extra miles if it is a great performing tire. The Pirellis on my E400 are noticeably much better than the Goodyears....I wish I got them sooner.

I would stay away from a discontinued tire. Just because if one gets trashed might not find a replacement. And I refuse to have a mismatched tire on the car!

When I was a kid I probably had 4 different tires on my car. I’d burn them up quick and then slap on whatever was on sale or I found along the road to keep me going. I actually have fond memories of driving around in old rattle traps with wired together equipment and wondering if this was the day I’d walk home.
Reminds me of a time when I was with a friend driving through the middle of nowhere Northern Illinois. My friend spotted a hubcap alongside the road and stopped as it looked a lot like his hubcaps and he was missing one. As it turned out it was an exact match for his hubcaps so he grabbed it and put in on his car. Well as faith would have it about a mile or two down the road he hit a bump and that same hub cap flew off the car and into a cornfield. Never found it, I guess the road give it and the road take it away.

    @kyfdx,
I missed the part about selling stock.
You can still get a tax benefit from your mortgage interest if you itemize.
Even at almost a 4% interest rate, what's the hurry to pay off the mortgage? Cash flow I guess.
Where's is that Snakey guy when we need him? ;)

Well I am working on some serious $%#@ right now and due to legal reasons I cannot get into it right now.

Anyway, not really enough information on it to make a good suggestion. But I would say that due to the fact that selling the stock could result in a tax liability and that with what's going on with current government spending might trigger high inflation I wouldn't suggest accelerating payments on any long term liabilities. If I were him I would wait for retirement before paying off or refinancing to a shorter loan term.

A couple of car observations, first I saw a Range Rover Evoque convertible yesterday. Who thought that was a good idea?

Second on the way home I saw a 70's maybe early 80's corvette with a targa top. From the back I could see that the top of the drivers head was about 2 or 3 inches higher than the roof line of the vette.

Strangely, that made the leak worse. When I disassembled it I saw a small drip tray in the front. My guess is that whatever drain there got blocked by debris and so the tray overflowed. When I blasted the gunk out with the hose it cleared the blockage.

I got another email from "Mercedes Benz" saying it was a survey.
    They give the address for head office as;
    © 2021 Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC, A Daimler AG Company
    One Mercedes-Benz Dr.
    Sandy Springs, GA 30328

Do you think MB is still in the Daimler Building?
    I am not sure if this is the same phony return email address as last time;

Why not look up customer service at MB and ask them if they sent the survey. I’ve done that with various emails from supposed banks and they always end up to be phishing scams.

Ha ha, that was probably a flashback of me driving my 84’ Corvette. With the top on my head was tilted sideways so it was fun to pop the top, throw it in the trunk and let my head stick out.

Speaking of drop tops I got to drive a Mazda MX5 yesterday. Made the Corvette feel like a limousine. While it felt fairly comfortable once you were in it, getting in and out was an adventure. When I got out the 3 hairs on the top of my head were totally messed up from the wind. :'(

The getting in and out problem is a big reason I haven’t gotten a newer Miata. Even though I can now fit in it and drive one now. The wife doesn’t appreciate laughing when she had to sprawl on the road getting out of it.

Nissan failed with a convertible Murano, so RR figured they should try too.

Dodge was way ahead of that curve.

I would love one of those. Or a little red express truck.

I think a few of those just ran through carsandbids.com, sold in the $8k range...

That’s not a bad price for a rare oddball like that. Come to think of it, that could fit the bill to replace two of my current vehicles. A convertible that could haul stuff.

Easier to put the survey into the Trash and mark future emails from them as SPAM to be deleted.

If you enjoy spirited driving take a look and feel of the driving dynamics asAsian Petrolhead put a New Kia EV6 through its paces. Asian Petrolhead may appear to be pedantic in his approach, but I think his enthusiasm comes from the love of aggressive and spirited driving.
He said, "today, we are finally testing driving the New Kia EV6 for the 1st time, Kia’s New EV. The Kia EV6 is Kia’s all-new EV car based on the all-new E-GMP platform, which is, of course, it shares with Hyundai IONIQ 5. Our test car came with dual-motor system (Long-Range) producing 239kW and 605Nm of torque. So, now let’s go out and drive the Kia EV6 and see if it is better than other EV cars, especially Hyundai IONIQ 5."

Slip the delivery guy a “20” to bring it in and you’ll be golden.
