Are you serious? Toyota is going to warranty an engine with 156,000 miles on it???!
Maybe this will make up for all the people who suffered engine sludge, errr gel, that didn't get compensated. Or did they do the same thing here as then: stall so long that most people gave up and sold out never to look back. I.e., the Firestone tire method.
Unfortunate, but not sure it's really much different than getting your arm stuck in a hydraulic press or something. It's not like R2D2 was walking around attacking people.
(@imidazol97, you may want to cut back on TVLand for a while. )
In a day I never thought would really happen, the local Toyota dealer, who had diagnosed excessive oil consumption in our 07 Camry with 156K on it. We knew it had the problem but got an unsolicited letter last March saying to get it tested. We knew it used excessive oil but this was a surprise. We tested positive and they said they would correct the problem no matter the mileage. They took it today and said to expect three days. If it can be fixed with rings they'll do the. Otherwise they'll replace the engine. I'm stunned.
Meanwhile they gave us a 14 Camry as a loaner.
That's shocking that they would do major engine work at a milage that you might normally expect a little oil consumption. Did your car do this from the start? Was this a known problem with that motor?
Maybe they're trying to get ahead of a defect that could cause big fines from the government down the road.

That's crazy! Your car isn't even that bad and they are ready to fix it or replace the engine....GG's car is undriveable and GM won't budge. What is the world coming to.

It's been a known problem for 10 years or so, I believe. V6, correct? My wife's '02 Lexus ES300 has this engine and we have been watching it closely for a long time. Back when the engine info came out, I started using full synthetic for her oil changes. No problem at all with it, but she only has 63K miles on it, so maybe the engine hasn't had enough miles to gel up. If we hadn't taken the car on vacation every year, it might have under 50K miles.

In September 2014, Forbes wrote "General Motors didn't hire Johan de Nysschen to run Cadillac as a shrinking violet." But apparently Johan did not get the memo as overall Cadillac's June sales were down (-3.1%). Do you think GG's travails documented here may have anything to do with that outcome?
The SRX was the only gainer, +23.5 percent The ATS was down (-6.2%) The CTS was down (-29.4%) The XTS was down (-14.5%) The Escalade was (-20.2%)
By contrast, all the foreign brands sales were up in June. Go figure.
Personally, I don't think Cadillac has the prestige to sell at German prices. I also believe they are pushing tech a bit and it may be biting their reputation.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 'Cue' system has cost a lot of sales. Though I imagine there are owners that like 'Cue', everything you read about it cautions you away from it stating that it is miserable to live with. I really like the styling of the current Cadillacs. Better yet I like the thin but very Cadillac like fin style LED tail lights. You can identify it as a Cadillac a distance away. I also understand the driving dynamics of them is very satisfying. I've been tempted to drive both an ATS and CTS but am afraid I will want one. GG's experience gives me additional pause, however.

No, this is a 4 cylinder engine. It's at 156K or so now but has had the issue for a while. We check it every week and always have a quart of oil on board.
This was apparently a lawsuit and when they settled they had to contact all owners of potentially suspect cars they knew of. Fortunately we bought this used at a Toyota dealer so we were easy to find. Just did the brake fluid and transmission fluid on it and will buy new tires when we get it back. Such a deal my daughter's getting.

So now I have both accidents repaired and this Camry should be back tomorrow or Monday. Between this and the 04 Camry I'll be buying 8 tires but that should set the girls up until they can manage on their own.

so, been evaluating how the latest plan is working. Not really feeling it. Just doesn't give me the warm and fuzzy feeling. Though I am afraid to tell the kid that (she may have a nervous breakdown, or worse!).
had an epiphany though. Instead of leasing something, might buy a few year old car without too many miles, and finance it at a cheap rate (ideally!) for 5-6 years. that way we will own it, can do what we want with it, and the payments should be about the same as the lease. In 3 years, either pay it off, sell it, or let her take it over (for the remaining payments).
so, something roughly 2012 with 40K would be the sweet spot. Trick of course, is finding that something.
Of course, I did find what would be perfect, with one minor problem. a 2012 Rogue SV, with moonroof and Navi (really do want the Navi if at all possible for her). 45K. Could easily finance for low $200s payment. But decided to stay away due to the CVT issues. Darn.
now, need to get the idea vetted by the real boss (the wife), and figure out what to look at. Then probably never find it.
as always, plans subject to change on a moments notice.
It would be added to the fleet but the 07 would be deleted from the fleet. I'm giving it to my oldest daughter who has been out of the house a while and has been driving it since my wife got the Prius. So one car off the insurance, one car on.
Stick - I couldn't live with myself if I bought a Miata with an automatic. I'll admit I drove one once. It was even white.

House/dog sitting up in Taos at our friend's straw bale off-grid house. We left the electric tea kettle home.
My wife just spotted the CX-3 in the news. Anyone up on them? Apparently even smaller than the Fiat 500x.
A Car & Driver reviewer tried to ding it by saying he looked out the window at one and said, oh, a Pontiac Vibe.
We both liked the Vibe/Matrix, so that's praise.
Based off the not coming to the U.S. Mazda 2, the CX-3 has 146 HP 2.0 skyactiv engine.

lol, don't you know me better than that? Can I put a dishwasher in the back and how many USB ports does it have?
Still, I'm making progress just getting my wife a bit interested in car shopping. She thinks it's funny what they are calling SUVs any more. The upright seating positions are a plus (she thinks the CX-5 is a truck btw).

This seems to be the opposite of how Cadillac is treating GG.

So the VW dealer accepted my offer of $28K + TTL for the VW Golf Sportwagen SE in Tungsten silver. Wife is happy with it, and it's just big enough to accommodate a growing family. The TDI engine is smooth and full of torque. Sort of like driving a truck around but with a smooth ride that handles well. The mileage on the first tank seems to be quite a revelation. My frugal side says we should be using her car for any long trips as it'll save a ton of money on fuel costs. I really like the car and the Fender Premium audio system is excellent. I think I like it better than my S4's Bang and Olufsen system.
I can only report one negative; I noticed the back of the muffler on these VW TDI Golf Wagon models is really rough. Whoever welded on the end tail pipes was drinking too much Tequila. Lots of burning, slag, dark discolored material on a visible finished edge/side of the muffler that you can see from down low in the back. It's not unique to our car, it was on at least 3 other cars of the same model, so there is nothing we can do about it.
Maybe some type of galvanized paint would help.

Did a long drive today and dug out my mp3 player, the cheap one that transmits through the FM radio. I'm sure it would hurt @bwia's ears but it was nice hearing my playlist for a change. More and more we ride in "radio silence".
I am sort of shopping for a receiver that'll accept SDs and USBs that I can hook up to the built-in wall speakers in my living room and streaming net radio would be a plus.
Have you looked at this Denon AVR? No SD input, but it does feature Spotify, Pandora, Bluetooth and USB. It's relatively inexpensive at $479.
Stever...good advice from RB. Take a look at this site..www.ac4l.com.
I've done business with them for a long time and they carry high quality AV gear (albeit refurbushed). Those refurb etailers can be a bit dicey. This one is quite good, and I know the owner. Straght up guy.

Congrats! That is quite the comment the the Fender system is that good vs. the Bang and O in your S-4. I had the Dynaudio in my 06 Passat 2.0t, and it sounded awesome, the best I've ever had in any car that I've owned. The system in my Honda is ok but hardly great.

IHMO.....Cadillac thought all they had to do was to put some attractive designs (at least to my eyes) and be a player in the trade rags comparisons, and that is it.
They really have a looonnnggg ways to go when it comes to customer service. I understand their desire to simplify the repair process as it saves them, and the Cadillac dealerships money. But, it's woefully insufficient. And, their handling of problems is staright out of their malaise era (1975-2005).
Cadillac prefers to fight with their customers rather than to listen to and fix their problems. In my case, it's too late to do that. But, all of this could have been avoided.
Do I think this has anything to do with Cadillac's frightful fall? My guess is probably. You look at the CTS, only a two year old model, dropping 30%, from dismal numbers to begin with, and that's the only conclusion you can come to.
I believe after my replacements I was told not to bend down for any length of time because of the intraocular pressure increase that could cause and I believe I was not to carry heavy items for the same reason. I don't know if golf would have you straining in that way or not. When I tried playing a decade or two back it was a miserable experience for all the golfers around me. However, I enjoyed the real beauty of the many courses I got to see with the people who suffered my being on the course with them!
imid....only had one eye done (left). Surgeon didn't recommend those multifocals. He said some people never can adjust to them. He's also a professor of Opthamology at Univercity of Cincinnati. So, I'll roll with his recommendation. My right eye is OK. But, ran into a problem. Went for the follow up visit with the Doc and he said the pressure on my left eye is high...so high he's coming back to his office today (when it's closed) to look at it again after giving me some meds that were supposed to help.
Wasn't concerned up until that point. If he's coming in on a day off, just to see his handiwork again with my eye. well...that makes me a little bit nervous.

GG, I had my left eye done about 3 years ago, my surgeon also did not recommend the multifocals, so I went with single focus. Results were fantastic and I am sure you will love the results. My eye was 100% after about 24 hours, (after the drugs wore off). I also had some long term damage to left eye area that I could not recall...except for rough and tumble sports and older brothers ! A couple of friends went with multifocals and they seemed to have a lot more problems, etc.
@graphicguy, thanks for the link. I've done "radio" so long most of it is Greek to me. On eyes, I'd probably do single focus instead, what with the detachment complication I had. Nice not needing glasses much though and otherwise it's been fine. High pressure runs in my family and we're all on drops.
@andres3, congrats on the Sportwagen. My wife was asking me about them last night. "But you don't like Volkswagens". "I love Volkswagens". You hated my "Super Beetle."
Guess we'll look at them now too. So much for knowing someone after 31 years (this week).
You need to put the @ sign in front of her name (or anyone's name). That way the member will get a message that someone is talking about them. Like so - @kirstie.
If you are over 5' 10" and 175 lbs with a long inseam you can pretty much forget it. Also, don't plan on carrying much more than a cat and a cantaloupe. Fun cars, though. I wish I didn't look like a Shriner trying to drive one. (PS: Newer ones have a bit more room). Some drivers cope by removing the seat padding from the back of the seat. All bodies are different, so maybe you'll figure out a good fit. I have a 33" inseam and my left knee hits the steering wheel during shifting, on the older cars. Check it out!
So now I have both accidents repaired and this Camry should be back tomorrow or Monday. Between this and the 04 Camry I'll be buying 8 tires but that should set the girls up until they can manage on their own.

I'm impressed as well. Glad they stepped up.
This compared to GG's experience with Cadillac is why I still avoid GM and prefer to look at other brands.
Well, the Camry isn't back yet but I'm betting on Monday. That's fine. The loaner is way nicer.
Speaking of Monday, I'll be back in the world of convertibles then. I bit on that Miata. Knocked off a few hundred dollars but no DMV today so I can't take possession until Monday.
Nice. The body is in terrific shape. The leather is worn but no cracks. The original owner disabled the driver's trunk latch fearing someone might cut the top to get into the trunk. If it can be reabled I'll do that because I'm not that paranoid and if not I'll live with it.

I dodged a bullet three days ago as a brush fire came close to destroying my Caribbean home. Blame that on global warming.
And it is a good thing too as I do not carry hazard insurance on the property. Why no insurance?...because no insurance company will provide coverage if someone is not continually resident on the property to mitigate damages. And even if I had insurance the deductible is 20% of the face value of the policy.

did some shopping today. and some buying. Honda dealer (huge place) was a zoo. not bad at 9:45 when we arrived, but hopping at 11 when we left. VW dealer (a small local place) was much quieter.
Good time to be buying a car!
And good on Fezo. Being as I am 6' (and long of torso) and definitely over 175, explains why I never fit in my 2001 Miata. Maybe the new ones are better!

Congrats on your new car. That's the one car I think I'd prefer with a stick. I'd never fit in it though.
As to disabling the trunk latch to prevent break-ins...how would the crook know the latch was disabled until he slit the top and broke in?

This compared to GG's experience with Cadillac is why I still avoid GM and prefer to look at other brands.

Good time to be buying a car!
And good on Fezo. Being as I am 6' (and long of torso) and definitely over 175, explains why I never fit in my 2001 Miata. Maybe the new ones are better!

As to disabling the trunk latch to prevent break-ins...how would the crook know the latch was disabled until he slit the top and broke in?
