I'll guess the efficiency is 94%-98% for the gas furnace. I don't think they make 90%, any more. When my local company installed mine in 2016, it was Lennox. But, now they are all Bryant, and that's what they installed in my son's house in 2021.
Have you received the settlement from the insurance company?
Hmmm, well my estimate shows a 90% efficiency furnace. So, hopefully they're not installing some leftover antique furnace.
The field adjuster just came out a couple hours ago. The guy was like 6'8". Played ball at N.C Ashville. He was inspecting damages while my hvac people were installing the new system. My HVAC guy said I could pay 70% of bill and then the remaining in 2 weeks when my settlement comes in.
Seems like an awfully slow payment system by your Insurance company.

That's because my contractor dragged his feet on getting me a hvac system estimate for over a week. He misplaced the HVAC companies estimate. Didnt return my calls. Couldn't get anyone to come look at my roof or siding. I got tired of messing with him. Don't know why anyone with my type of damages would want to get a "insurance restoration contractor". ...which was recommended by State Farm. The HVAC company that my former contractor works with, gave me a estimate for a York single stage furnace and a/c, 14 seer instead of 17, for the same price as the high efficiency unit I had installed today. A little over 10 grand. I'm sure my contractor would have gotten a grand or two out of that deal.

Installation is important but a good installer can’t correct a poorly designed system but today I don’t think there are too many of those.
If you’re using an installer that has been around for a while, more than likely they aren’t going to risk their reputation with a bad product. From what I’ve heard from you, you should be fine.
Now about the adjustment from your insurance company; don’t accept their first offer and let them know you’re disappointed with it and see what they’ll come back with. Even if it’s only a hundred bucks that’s better in you pocket than theirs. After all you are the Jipster, right? Don’t ruin your reputation in here by caving to the first offer.

After getting my first quote of nearly 8 grand, I knew I could file a claim, as it was well over my deductible. Love that Soul Red and black interior. Almost bought the Mazda 6 over my current Accord, but the ride felt a bit jittery to me. Plus the 2 Mazda dealerships I dealt with were being overzealous with their covid test driving policies.

On the chimney....gotta be one in a million. For that thing to launch off the neighbor’s roof, and land dead center on my a/c condenser, missing taking out the west side of my house by a few inches....unbelievable.

He probably did it by tying some coat hangers together and giving them a good yank when the storm hit. The adjusters would probably claim that you knew or should have known that they would be having roofers on-site and so you should not have installed your new system in a location where they could fall on it, so the liability for their injuries is yours.
As for the insurance agent who recommended getting a middleman to "help" with handling your claim, I'd suspect some kind of connection between the t2o.
When I was young, I had a windshield replacement claim. My then State Farm agent recommended a certain body shop in Blue Ash (suburban Cincy). After having a problem with the windshield they used for replacement, agent mentioned he'd just played golf with the two young owners of the glass place he'd recommended before recommending them to me. I suspect they raised it in part because their competitors already had.

We are getting our house ready to sell, so I've been fixing/painting things. My wife has been throwing out the stuff "we" accumulated over the past 20 to 30 years, most of which we never used or looked at. A couple of years ago, we couldn't on a new door to the deck, so we just kept what we have. First time using my Multi Tool I got for Xmas. It is a pretty awesome tool. It needs some work, so here are a couple of pics of my rehab project of it.

Those multi-tools are amazing. We used my Porter Cable so much doing the flip work we wore it out. I couldn’t tell you how many feet of wood and drywall we cut with it. That tool is extremely versatile. It make cuts that would be impossible with other saws.
We finally got tired of buying blades so a few months ago I decided to get the 1-1/2 inch wide blades on-line. Bought a package of 100 for less than $45. We figured they would be so cheap they’d wear out quickly but at least we wouldn’t have to keep buying them at 5 bucks or more each so often. We were wrong, they are just as good as the name brand blades. That was a nice surprise. Too bad we can’t buy everything like that.

When we first committed to moving, we contacted a realtor at our preferred realty company. They provided us with a comparative market report. It was not at all accurate in regard to the square footage of our house, totally missing our finished basement area. Since we are getting close to moving, in about 3 month, we contacted the agent again asking more specifics about selling and pointing out the inaccurate evaluation. Agent got back to us with an overstated square footage and wanting 2 weeks of Open Houses with a 3 to 6 month exclusive commitment. The way it is done is one Open House with all tours scheduled on a Saturday for 20 minutes each and best offers by Sunday night.

Personally, I don't think I'd buy a car from a place that looked like that dealership...KBB. Also, maybe the real KBB (Kelly Blue Book) could probably go after them for using their name, to sell cars. I thought you couldn't turn back mileage on today's cars?
With Car Fax and other such services I would think turning back an odometer would be more obvious. I do have a bone to pick with our Audi Service dept. When I took the Q5 in for service last Dec they did the 50k sec. The Q5 had 48k, currently 51k. They send a Car Fax report periodically to prompt the next service. It shows the last service done in Dec with the Q5 having 58k. Nope.

Jip, Your old unit gave you 22 years of service and was probably ready to go at any time....probably in really hot weather. This way you get a new much better unit just in time before the summer comes along, and the insurance company is covering 40% of the cost!
Now, how did you get that chimney from next door to fall exactly on top of that old unit?

Thanks. We're really excited about our new hvac system. Can't wait for some really hot weather to see what it can do. 😀
On the chimney....gotta be one in a million. For that thing to launch off the neighbor’s roof, and land dead center on my a/c condenser, missing taking out the west side of my house by a few inches....unbelievable.
Now, how did you get that chimney from next door to fall exactly on top of that old unit?

He probably did it by tying some coat hangers together and giving them a good yank when the storm hit. The evidence is long gone now but he got what he wanted…a new unit for an old, on it’s last legs, hooptie. He ain’t the @Jip for no reason. When he’s through with his insurance company it’ll be like a baby lamb walking onto a used car lot.

My chimney neighbors are getting a new roof installed this very moment. Hopefully we don't have any roofers fall off and land on my brand new air conditioner.

with handling your claim, I'd suspect some kind of connection between the t2o.
When I was young, I had a windshield replacement claim. My then State Farm
agent recommended a certain body shop in Blue Ash (suburban Cincy).
After having a problem with the windshield they used for replacement,
agent mentioned he'd just played golf with the two young owners of
the glass place he'd recommended before recommending them to me.
Hmmmmm.

I suspect they raised it in part because their competitors already had.
I honestly don’t remember that ever stopping you before!!! 🤪😜

Also, maybe the real KBB (Kelly Blue Book) could probably go after them for using their name, to sell cars.

Well....jmonroe is going to revoke my membership on this one. I took the money and ran again. 😞
My field adjuster called yesterday, total of all damages, minus the deductible, was around $6,500. It was a lot more $$$ than was anticipating. Field adjuster said he thought it was more than fair. My wife said I yelled out, "SHOW ME THE MONEY!", immediately before I fainted.
With the extra money, I can buy that Goodman furnace that @explorerx4 linked to. Use it for a backup.

But you are a knowledgeable person, how many people who buy a car at KBB are even going to know about these things? I'd say, if you don't know anything about used cars....buy, at a reputable dealership.

Thanks for that info. I guess it was just a matter of time until someone offered that but at less than a buck a blade (now that we’ve bought 100 of them for less than $45 bucks) I can’t get too excited about that now.
Where were you with that info when it could have helped us?

Do you believe everything you’ve been told? Just on principle I would never go by what an adjuster tells me until I try to get a better settlement.
The next time you make a major purchase let me know. Since we’re poster buddies I won’t club you like a baby seal, more like an adult seal because you should know better.

Yeah, I'm kind of working at 'retired guy' pace but it does take time for the glue and filler to dry.

I'm using Plastic Wood to fill the gaps. I used wood glue to fasten the patch to the existing frame.
Looks like it will be a solid repair. If you are in a hurry you can always use Bondo.
