Actually, 180 was pretty good for 1985. My aunt had a Lincoln LSC (same year/engine) that I think was only rated at 165 hp.

About 9:30 this morning I was going to head out and pick up some items. Click, click, click. ugh. The battery in the Passat failed without warning. It was fine yesterday. I had my wife steer the car as I pushed it out of the garage so I could jump start it. Of course it starts to rain. I will spare the details but used the TL as the jump vehicle. The VW dealer said bring it in they could replace the battery. I asked them to do a cursory inspection while I was there. Glad I did, they found a leaking thermostat. i called my wife to come pick me up, the car would be ready after 2pm. Thankfully the repair was covered by warranty. It is never convenient to have an unexpected out of service event. I am glad it happened today rather than tomorrow or strand me 40 miles away at the company parking garage as I commute in all next week. All good now. whew.

The best place to have a dead battery is in your garage. I’ve had that happen a handful of times in my 60 + years of driving.
Most of the time I replace them if given a warning and/or it’s getting up there in years.
BTW, a good battery for my Genny will cost me close to 300 bucks.

his current series is on a 2018 LR Discovery (big shock there) with some weird problems, biggest being intermittent no crank. Seems that the problem was the backup power supply (a 3.6v rechargeable battery) for the telematics control module was going bad. And that was enough for the TCU to say nope, push the button all you want, I ain't telling the ECU to start the car.
even by LR that makes little sense. I could see popping a message that the battery is bad, and need to replace it, but if the main power is there, why not start?

With only 2+ minutes left in the game, Miami had an opportunity to kick a field goal to end up scoring 73 points in order to set a new NFL record for most points scored in a game. But they were true champs when the coach, Mike McDaniels, made the decision to have the quarterback take a knee in order to turn the ball over in downs to Denver on their own 10 yard line. That's showing class - why tack on points to an already defeated Denver in order to set an NFL record. McDaniel's is already taking lots of heat for denying his team an NFL record, but he was a bigger man than that. Final score - 70 to 20.
If you can see the game on YouTube, it is definitely worth your time. Miami quarterback Tua passed for about another 300+ yards with 4 TD passes and a total of over 700 total yards in offense. Miraculous.
2024 Genesis G90 Super-Charger
I mean, I’d argue even getting to 70 pts was excessive and not necessary, but I didn’t watch the game so maybe that was even with the second string in.
Miami is a better team than Denver but not by that much.
A score like that only happens when a team quits. Denver has more problems than that final score.

So, mostly a failure by Denver's defense.

OSU won with 3 seconds left a disappointment for us ND fans.
We stood the whole game except for time outs.
Half an hour to get from our seats to the car and another 1 1/2 hours to get out of the parking lot, so even though the game ended fairly early, we didn't get home until 3:45 AM.
Son in Law showed up with the grandkids and the dog just after 8 this morning.
Long day after our football trip, too. HA HA.
Denver is far, far worse than the pundits say. Peyton was expected to be a miracle maker, but the problems extend to both sides of the ball. Injuries haven't helped, either.
I wasn't expecting a much better record than last years 5-12, but now I'm not even sure we can achieve that. We still have two games against KC, two against the Chargers, as well as games against Dallas and Philly.

We had a parking pass in one of the golf course parking areas, but it was full(?) when we got there.
Had to park in a different area, although they accepted our parking pass.
If you have any good idea's, I'm listening.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
Across the road from the main entrance, and about 3-4 blocks west, there are residential streets where you can find free parking. About 15-20 minute walk to stadium, at most.
We got there pretty early, though, as we'd never been, and wanted to walk around campus. Then, spent some time in the new fake Irish bar that's directly across from the entrance.
I did a search on Tripadvisor forums for South Bend, found an old post about parking, and replied to it, and sure enough the original poster came back with some details.
But, we stayed in Portland on the way up, and Warsaw on the way back, so we weren't trying to make it home.

I always park on the street in the Harters Heights neighborhood which is south of Angela and west of Notre Dame Avenue. I want to park on Peashway or Pokagon or on the north-south streets that run between them
You will need to access this neighborhood from the south (off Howard Street) as access to Angela is blocked. There are a few spots where one side of the street is no parking.
Just don’t block a driveway and you will be fine. I’ve parked here for 20 years. Usually get out quickly by heading south through the neighborhoods. Of course we’re heading south to get home
There will be people along Peashway that park cars in their front yard.
The earlier you get there, the closer you will be to campus. And you will want to be early to have time to walk around campus and take in the sights.
If you want to use campus parking Burke golf course is much closer than the blue lot. I’ve never done it - seems like getting out would take awhile

Thanks for the parking info.
Got there about 3:15 for a 7:30 game.
We were supposed to park in Burke off Angela but had to park in Burke off Dorr.
Brought a modest tailgating setup, 6 foot table, four chairs and a cooler and spent a couple hours hanging there before we headed to the game.
One problem was that everyone stayed to the end of the game.

Actually, I’ve decided to get all new kitchen appliances since mine are over 20 years old and the fridge is forcing the issue by being on its last legs. The existing ones are all white and I don’t want to replace just the fridge because I don’t want white again but I also don’t want one oddball compared to the others. Plus I figure none of them owe me anything after all those years. So I’ve been researching over the last few days.
To my great surprise the best combination for features, design and value right now locally seems to be Frigidaire. My old fridge is a Kenmore built by Frigidaire and while it is now troublesome after many years I’m not dead-set against the brand. There is a Whirlpool fridge I like a bit more that is a bit more expensive but which I might go with as an alternative to the Frigidaire which is currently leading the field because it’s now on sale. The range seems no contest as Frigidaire has a nice-looking one that has great reviews at a very good price.
Dishwasher is a bit of a crapshoot. I use it once a week so I don’t need a $2000 job. Frigidaires are good value but seem a bit basic. There is a nice Whirlpool with a stainless tub that is a 47db machine that I’m leaning towards. Interesting to see some less than glowing reviews of Bosch’s 100 and 300 series machines, while up here the 500 series is twice the cost of the Whirlpool and very hard to justify.
I have a Frigidaire over-the-range microwave/hood currently and am likely to replace it with similar, but I am intrigued by the new low-profile ones that are only about 10” tall. Not sure how practical that would be to live with. Have at it!

blewcame back from a 35 point halftimeleaddeficit in the Playoffs about a decade or 2 ago??? 70 points ain't too much at all!Color....we have white in Florida but I think stainless is less expensive and easier to find these days. We have black in our home-home, but that was what we got when we bought the place, not something we would actually buy unless replacing appliances one at a time.
Microwave....our black one got replaced by a Panasonic, mostly stainless with a bit of black trim, seems fairly slim, works well but when it stops it has an annoying alarm that goes off 3 times, in about 20 seconds it keeps going off........it works great though.
Good luck...if you like it and it costs more you will never be sorry you spent a bit extra.
btw....counter depth fridge is not as large inside but gives you more floor space and might be better for traffic flow.

I’m about where you are with appliances.
We redid the kitchen in 2010. Appliances are from different manufacturers (except range and original dishwasher). Samsung fridge (ice maker just started acting up about a year ago). Rarely use ice so no big loss since it still works most of the time. Kenmore electric range (high burner on the right top front died about 2 years ago but don’t miss it since still have a small burner in that spot and left front top is also a big burner). I’m not going to talk about the LG microwave because you guys know my policy about talking about cars and appliances that have been trouble free. I got a full replacement, including tax, for the Kenmore dishwasher that went when it was 13 months old and out of warranty. Got a Samsung for that which had to be repaired twice under extended warranty until it had to be replaced in July of this year. Went with a Maytag because a mom and pop store recommended it although they liked Bosch and Kitchen Aid more (said the Bosch and Kitchen Aid brand carried a lot of weight with folks so they had lots of those) but he felt for the money the Maytag was a better buy especially since he thought it cleaned just as well. The guy gave me the Maytag model number of the one he liked but said they couldn’t get that one for at least 3 weeks. Just so happens Lowe’s had that model in stock so I bought it at Lowe’s.
I told this before when I was at Lowe’s:
2 dishwashers away from the Maytag they had a Kitchen Aid that had a couple more features than the Maytag. We didn’t need those features. Of course the Kitchen Aid price was higher too because of that . IIRC, the Kitchen Aid was a little over a grand, whereas the Maytag cost a tad over $700. I really studied the two of them, since they were so close to each other, and the controls were the same except for the additional buttons for the additional features on the Kitchen Aid. However, the interior stainless tub and inside of the door were 100% identical for both, right down to the stamping marks. So that backed up what the mom and pop store told me about Kitchen Aid, Maytag and at least one other brand coming out of the same factory. I can’t really give a report on how well the Maytag will be because it’s still an infant. But so lfar it does a good job. I can’t say it is better than the Samsung because when the Samsung worked it was damn good. Although the Maytag seems to be a little bit quieter but the Samsung was pretty good too (I think 50 db for the Maytag, don’t know what the Samsung was). db ratings don’t bother me (to a point) because I buy a dishwasher for how well it cleans dishes not how well I can sleep in the same room with it.
Just for your info you’ll like beer better when it’s chilled in a stainless unit compared to when it comes out of that old antique white job you have now.

I agree with this: Went with a Maytag because a mom and pop store recommended it although they liked Bosch and Kitchen Aid more (said the Bosch and Kitchen Aid brand carried a lot of weight with folks so they had lots of those) but he felt for the money the Maytag was a better buy especially since he thought it cleaned just as well.
We got a Maytag in Florida and it works fine....also has a great food mulcher if needed, Euro models don't usually have that. I still like a Bosch because it runs quieter, the way you load it is arranged much better, it is quieter, and it handles like a Mercedes....smooth and easy.

I was considering Whirlpool brands when shopping, what turned me off was just lack of innovation in racks, especially bottom - basically looks like they're putting same bottom rack there as they did in 1970s. No folding tines, very basic. LG and Samsung had best racks in my opinion, but those had pretty poor drying and (still) atrocious warranty/past warranty service. I bought LG at Costco before I got the Bosch, it quit four months later, faulty electronic control module. That happens, I can take failure under warranty here and there, but LG had a estimated date of part availability as 3 months after the technician's visit (what's more, they wouldn't even call me about this, upfront, I had to call them about it after several weeks of waiting - that was probably the repair shop itself lacking customer service, not necessarily LG). After two futile attempts talking directly to LG support to speed it up, I called Costco, they leaned on them to buy it back from me. I'm weary of LG appliances from then. They're nice, attractive, very clever, the reliability has reportedly improved (people say they finally fixed their flawed fridge compressor design that was a nightmare for consumers and ended in courts), but once something goes wrong, they should have sufficient part availability, and they clearly don't seem to even try fixing that, as the problem is dragging on 20 years after their first major "marketing offensive" in early 2000s. All they seem to be interested in "new business", which is a downer.

I used the Chat feature to get 5.99 per month plus Royalties and Taxes with automatic renewal.
They then offered to put my other subscriptions on the same plan, so it looks like I don't need to call back for a while.
I called to cancel a couple weeks later. They didn't even try to resell me then.
I realized I have lots of other music sources, like folks on here had been saying all along. And the music on the SXM was repetitive on the channels.
I got a phone call while driving about 4 weeks after cancelling from a young lady all hot to sell me a plan again. I told her they didn't want to give me the $4.999 which I wanted when I called the first time. And I enjoy living without it. So don't call me back.
I keep getting mail offers of $4.99 for 2 years along with email offers. Seems SXM doesn't know what their lower price plan is, but it will be without me, at least for now.
On my Malibu, I got the first two years free. My saleslady said they had trouble activating it for me. I waited for it to quit after 90 days and it never did. Two years later from date of purchase it quit. I've always wondered if the dealership was paying the bill for the SXM as a dealer car?
Then I called in for the $4.99 plan they were offering.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
One word about KitchenAid. The lower priced ones come in "american style" with a grinder, and are noisier. They also make a "euro style" that is super quiet. (but, more expensive)

Man, these prices went up! I think I paid for my black 800-series just about that amount in 2019 that now 100-Series is (but well, it's USD, not CAD, so yeah, there is still some difference). Junction box included.
Maybe it was over $900, but I'm sure it wasn't more than thousand bucks (plus tax and delivery, of course). There might have been $50 or $100 mail-in-rebate with it, I think, but wouldn't swear. Back then you'd have to pay over $1000 for these special signature or whatever it's called models that had even more fancy tines and really nice fancy handle. Mine still had third shelf, folding tines at top and bottom rack and very low dB rating (not the lowest ever but low enough to be whispering from even small distance).

My grandkids are very curious. If they see a button, they want to push it. A door or drawer is closed, they want to open it. A light switch, they want to toggle it.
You don’t have to tell me about curiosity. Nobody was more curios than I was. I pushed more buttons than you could find in a shirt factory when I was growing up. So many that I’m lucky to still be here. My father had patience but not too much of that once he told me no and explained why no meant no. When I went ahead with my curiosity there was hell to pay and I paid plenty of that. Then one day out of the clear blue I came to the conclusion that there had to be a better way. Some folks would say that’s the day I grew up. In any case life was better after that.
When my sons did something I didn’t want them to do I tried to explain why it had to be my way or else. When they still did it their way, in time, they learned too. They must have been smarter because they learned faster than I did.
You just have to stay with it and eventually it works.

I have a feeling Bosch basic models work as well as the fancier models, maybe with fewer settings, possibly slightly higher sound level. All we do is set it, use normal or express settings, occasionally pot scrubbing....and I don't know how dishes could turn out any better.
