    I got that email last week asking me to contact an old friend. Yesterday I got one offering me some money coming my way;
You have an e-transfer that is expiring tomorrow, don't forget to deposit it. For info visit exptransfercompany.com. Rates may apply.

I better get an email off to them asap.
    .

Now, you see, I would know it’s a scam because no one knows my acct.# to transfer anything and since I never did a e-transfer in my life I wouldn’t know how to do it anyway.

I was thinking though I might want to learn if I every wanted to pay for an out of town car.

Nice to have another nuclear sub in the hood.

How do you guys manage without a guy to plug/unplug? It's so complicated and inconvenient.
The trick is to keep your tongue away from the charger plug in😂

Ued EV prices dropped (ing) fast

    Very interesting - I wonder why?...and I don't know if anyone has commented on this;

With 24 accidents per 1,000 drivers during the period from mid-November 2022 to mid-November 2023, Tesla drivers clocked in with the worst accident rate in the U.S., according to a study by Lending Tree, ahead of Ram and Subaru drivers.

BMW drivers were the most likely to engage in driving under the influence, the researchers found, with 3 DUIs per 1,000 drivers in a year, about twice the rate of DUIs among Ram drivers, who were the second worst drivers in this regard.

Accidents, DUIs, speeding and other citations can all lead to higher insurance rates for drivers. Tesla owners may pay more for insurance???????
I wonder if they factored in the age of the driver as Tesla might not be a first choice of older less risk-taking drivers.

*Forty-four of Edmonton’s 60 electric buses are no longer roadworthy.
*Proterra’s website claims that the buses can go up to 270 mi on a single charge. However, the buses from Edmonton have a range of merely 65 mi., not even a quarter of what was advertised.
*This limited range means electric buses are only on the streets from 5-8:30 am before charging and eventually returning to the roads between 2:30-6:30 pm.

Conversely, a diesel ETS bus can be on the road for 21 hours without ever tanking up

Just reporting the facts, in case someone is in charge of buying a fleet of buses.

My city (one of the national leaders in virtue signalling) has 80 of them on order at a price of over a million worthless Canadian dollars apiece. Apparently they are being sourced from Novabus, a Canadian manufacturer, though how much expertise they have in electric vehicles is unknown. I eagerly await the hilarity once they are deployed.
In Norway (or Sweden) electric buses have been an abject failure as the batteries can’t take the cold weather. Is your Province as cold as Scandinavia?

I don't live in Alberta but Edmonton can get very cold in the winter, similar to Scandinavia. Average temp are about 3F to 30F in Jan and Feb. The cities were worried about how cold weather was going to affect those already poor charging numbers.

Poor planning: Went to BJs tonight. Unbeknownst to me until I arrived, if you spent $150 you qualify for .50 off per gallon. That same day. I spent $150+ (including a 32" Smart TV for bedroom, belated Xmas present for wife), but the A7 was 3/4 full on the liquid side. Filled up anyway, 4 gallons. With my BJs CC discount, PUG $3.84/gal became $3.19! Now, how do I spend the $2.60 I saved?

I've mentioned this before, but back in 2013 I test drove a new Lincoln MKS ( in order to get a $50 gift card and because the dealer was making a donation to Food for the Poor for every test drive). The sales guy was eager to show off the "new" voice recognition system; he said, "Tune to FM station ninety-seven point five." The Lincoln replied, "Now tuning to gay radio station." My son and I couldn't stop laughing, my wife shook her head, and the sales guy just turned beet red and said not a word for the rest of the drive.

I was out yesterday to swing by the post office, so gassed up the truck. RUG at Sunoco for only $2.75!

their credit card is great. $.05 off the cash price, so $.15 off a regular CC Free money is the best money!

    Back to the dishwasher topic,

Had LG. It had very clever racks, ran quietly, but lacked heating element for water or drying, so it was good as long as I remembered to crank up the water heater temperature to maximum one hour before the wash. The drying was not great. Stopped working after a few months - bad control module, service from LG was horrendous, no spare parts for three months, no information, no updates. Finally Costco leaned on them and they bought it back from me. Bought Bosch 800-series. Love it, quiet, effective, drying is much better then previous gen, water only stays on plastic dishes with a rim, when it can pond, or inside deep pots with nonstick coating (droplets don’t slide down). Racks are ok, but could use more folding tynes. It just finished its fourth year, no issues so far with any mechanical or electrical parts.

I would love to get an 800 series, but it is twice the price of the 300 I was looking at. Can't possibly justify that given my low usage rate.

500 prices were around $900, ten years ago.. Now, about $1000. 300 series is $100 less.

I'd pay for the 500, but not sure I'd pony up the extra $180 to move from 500 to 800, though.

While talking about BJ’s, I don’t belong to their club - I only belong to Costco (mainly for gasoline). But I have some close friends who are members at BJ’s.

I usually purchase Starbucks “Pike Place” ground, 28 oz, from Amazon for about $18.00. BJ’s has periodic sales on their 40 oz pkg for $15.00. So I stopped ordering Starbucks Pike Place from Amazon because of the outstanding price for 25% more for $3.00 less.

Since I am a Prime member, they occasionally ask me to order stuff for them because I get free shipping which can save as much as $5.00 per order. So one hand washes the other, so to speak.

I rarely shop inside the Costco warehouse store because their prices are not that great on stuff I use. But I have other friends who will pick up stuff like Hebrew National Hot Dogs (4-pkgs of 7 dogs) for $7.00 - $9.00 which is a great bargain. Their prices on dairy products are great, but I can’t use a 2 lb brick of cheddar or mozzarella cheese. I live alone and can’t consume that quantity. Costco’s prices on tires when on sale is the best around. I bought my Michelin Primacy MMX all season tires there for $200 less than I would have paid, installed, at competitors.

But at BJ’s, $15.00 for a 40 oz pkg of Starbucks Pike Place already ground is a steal. Their regular price when not on sale is $21.00 which is still much better than Amazon’s price per oz.

I never went to BJ’s other when they would send me a free 1 month trial. Wasn’t impressed with their selections. I use Sam’s since it’s much closer to my house. They are building a gas station at this location and I’ll have to see how cheap the gas would be. I’m hoping there isn’t a constant line of people idling their cars for 45 minutes to save a nickel on gas.

We fueled up at a Costco on Maui. Had to wait a while to get to a pump but the price was $4.199. In general, the parking lot was a total zoo. Next cheapest I saw at another station was $4.559. Most were between $4.90 and $5.00, so it was worth it.

You're not in the land of worthless Canadian dollars. Prices when not on special sale here:

    300: $1200
    500: $1600
    800: $2,000

All plus 15% sales tax of course.

They also have a 100 and an Ascenta series here for under $1000 but the word on the street is to avoid those models.

Other makes can usually be found under $1000 even on their top-line models since they are often marked down.

It’s amazing how folks will drive to the other side of the county, and wait, to fill up on gas that’s 5/7 cents cheaper per gallon. But these same folks think nothing about spending 4/5 bucks for a latte every day.

Maybe the gas savings somewhat offsets the cost of the latte but I couldn’t put up with chasing gas prices.

California Car Dealer uses A-I to answer customers questions, and it sold a 2024 Tahoe for $1!

One user easily talked the chatbot into agreeing to sell a $76000 2024 Chevy Tahoe for the princely sum of $1.

Unfortunately, even though the chatbot claimed its acceptance of the offer was “legally binding” and that there was no “takesies backsies,” the car dealership didn’t make good on the $1 Chevy Tahoe deal. Evidently, the chatbot was not an official spokesperson for the dealership.

I've noted before, but my (formerly) local Costco, as long as I didn't go on Sat/Sun, I never had to wait more than 5 minutes (maybe not even that long) to begin filling. Most of the time, slide right in. Weekend days, horse of another color. But, even the waits then weren't too mind-numbing.

But now that I've moved to the hinterlands, BJs is only 8 miles away and generally on the way to everywhere. With the .15/gal discount I get with their CC, prices are pretty good, often times I've noted less than Costco. Not Tier 1, but life isn't always fair.

I'm slowly growing to enjoy BJs. But, no food court for those times when my palette is looking to be elevated from the daily slop I make for myself.

We always used BJs because it was the only option by us in Jersey. Even up at the new place, not a Costco anywhere around.

We stopped the weekend before Christmas. Such a zoo we just turned around and left. And as always the gas line was out of the parking lot. I would never wait on it since gas is cheaper near my house. But it messes up getting into the parking lot. And I would pay the extra 10 cents to not wait on a long line.

I never went to BJ’s other when they would send me a free 1 month trial. Wasn’t impressed with their selections. I use Sam’s since it’s much closer to my house. They are building a gas station at this location and I’ll have to see how cheap the gas would be. I’m hoping there isn’t a constant line of people idling their cars for 45 minutes to save a nickel on gas.
    ————————————————
It’s amazing how folks will drive to the other side of the county, and wait, to fill up on gas that’s 5/7 cents cheaper per gallon. But these same folks think nothing about spending 4/5 bucks for a latte every day.

Maybe the gas savings somewhat offsets the cost of the latte but I couldn’t put up with chasing gas prices.

I have seen a 60+ cent spread between some areas near me. Usually I choose the cheapest station within a few miles of the house but if I’m in the mood for a drive I might travel 20 miles to get that deal.

Coincidently, I was just reading back over an interaction I had with a chevy dealer when shopping for my Camaro deal. Similarly, their website allowed me to accept a lease deal that they then refused to honor. Shocker.

I guess there is some fine print on those web deals so the geek on the computer doesn't give a car away.

RE: Costco there's no way I'm ever waiting more than 5-10 minutes to fuel up to save a couple of dollars or if it's a chokepoint for traffic. No thanks.

I go to Costco for gas (I have to put in premium) early in the morning - usually between 9:00 and 9:30 AM - and I never have to wait for a pump to open up. Costco opens at 10:00 AM so I get there about an hour before the store opens.

The pricing for PUG is, on average, about 50 cents a gallon lower than Shell, Chevron, Mobil, etc., which is significant when filling up with 14-18 gallons (my tank holds almost 22 gallons). I would never go to Costco at other times because the wait for a pump would be prohibitive.

Here in upstate NY we’re just barely hanging on during the latest storm of the century. After much hysterical prediction of up to a foot of snow we currently sit at 2” with maybe another inch to come. I’ll be hiding under the bed until this latest nightmare is over and the driving on all the salt nightmare begins.

got out and shoveled what we got so far. Very wet stuff. Will do a final pass once it ends.

Leave it. It will all melt by Wednesday when it will be 50. This is the weirdest winter I’ve seen around here in a long time.

snowed a lot heavier mid morning. we ended up with the predicted range of 6-10 (probably about 7 at least right now). 39 and sunny tomorrow will take care of anything left on the driveway.

    Wimp city of course.

the last one, I did have in the snow up here (visiting farm country). Nasty day driving over from Albany, but it did surprisingly well. a little dicey going up the last hill on an unpaved road, but switched to snow mode and worked the steering and it got traction to pull the hill. that was with FWD on the standard Michelin all season sneakers. Really did pretty good. I assume the Hybrid would be the same since also FWD and same tires.

my goal is for it to never experience wet slop with salt and brine getting sprayed up underneath.

Rain, followed by wet snow. So, a bit of a slush mess here in south coastal MA. Dog loves it. But, it's going to freeze over night, so I'll do a later night inspection of A7, walk and driveway.
I hear the plows out now.

The sound of snow plows is one of my least favorite sounds.

The best way to combat that sound is to pop a couple beer cans or go stealth and open up a bottle of bourbon.
