@abacomike I think they stopped making the V8 Genesis for 2016, so the only ones floating around are 2015s - at least that is how it looks up here in Seattle. I'm seeing some local dealers advertising 2015 Genesis V8 models listing at $52k for $38k + tax - heck of a lot of car for that kind of money....
I drove one today. It was a 2016, per the salesman. Hmmm. Something is fishy!
Take this for whatever it is worth, but I was looking at the Hyundai website and they only show a 3.8 RWD and a 3.8 AWD for 2016...
Just got off the phone with the sales manager. He said I drove a 2015, not a 2016. I asked him why the salesman told me it was a 2016? He said he was new. He said he didn't call me back because he can't get a 2016!
The car business - I thought it was getting more transparent - guess not!
Thanks firefighter - I would never have known I was misled if it weren't for you!
As many have noted, the main problem with buying a Genesis will be having to put up with the typical Hyundai dealer. When the Genesis Coupe came out I dropped by a Hyundai store to check one out. I got the entire "What can I do to put you in a car today?" shtick. I felt like I needed a shower after I finally escaped...

Genesis - want to negotiate a strong cost basis and then lease. Avoid the potential depreciation risk on this one.
You might be right! A lot of thinking has to be done about this next purchase/lease. I will not do anything until the 2017 model year, in any case at this point in time,
It's a pretty sad day for Chevy stylists when they take their styling queues for the rear end of their newly re-designed Malibu from a Hyundai Genesis.
I'm serious, the first person that says to me, "nice Malibu", I going to smack them.

Consider me smacked as I do think it is a nice car.
I might change my mind once I get to see and feel one in person but for now I kind of like it.

That's funny! No way JM spent $50,000 on a car only to have someone claim it's a $22,000 Malibu.
Mike - glad you enjoyed your V8 Genesis Test Drive. It speaks volumes of how good the car truly is. I don't think you'll be able to keep up your "new car every year" streak if you buy one. Depreciation will kill you & force you to come out of pocket with A LOT more money to trade out of the Hyundai.

Interesting "incident" on my way home from the gym this morning. Going through a residential development when I came up on a Nissan Leaf that was going REAL slow and the driver stuck his hand out the window and waved me past. Either a problem, or judging by his look, low on juice. Can't carry a can in the car to walk to the gas station I guess. Maybe he needs a looong extension cord
Which reminds me, when we entered Canada and got on Highway 401 I saw a EV Charging station that had about 20 stations for EV cars to charge at (I didn't see any cars charging).
This is what I found out: The company says over 20 of the fastest level two chargers available have been installed every 30 to 60 miles of the corridor. Kent Rathwell, president of Sun Country Highway. “The 401 highway is the busiest highway in North America and now business travelers and eco-tourists have the option to travel emission-free. The stations are on 401 between Detroit/Windsor and Montreal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PF, your story illustrates why I am leery about electric powered cars. Gas, you can usually find a station or a truck can bring you a 5 gallon can of gasoline.......with an EV you probably have to get towed to a power outlet.
I always chuckle when I hear that "zero emission" crap about electric cars. Where do you think the electricity comes from?
Secondly I would say we don't know why the Leaf was going so slow. I have seen gas powered cars do the same thing and I don't think that all of them were low of electricity. I am not leery about electric cars because of this especially since the Bolt is coming out. Plug it in when I get home and the next morning I have a car with 200 miles in the "tank". With a gas powered car that figure goes down each day until I fill it up. And since I rarely drive over 50 miles in a day the 200 mile range is more than enough. In the odd times I would need a longer range I could always drive our other car (we do have two and one would be a gas powered for such things).

I need to defend my Hyundai dealer (where I bought). As always, it has more to do with the store/management than the brand being sold.
I had an awesome experience in every way. the ambiance, people, deal, transparency. Everything. And service has been fine too (the 2 times I went!). I would have no problem sending anyway there to buy a car.
much better than the dopes running the Acura dealer I got the RDX at. I will never set foot in that place again. But the dealer nearby I use for service is excellent.

That's why I would have to go into a lease - and kiss my yearly new car buying escapades goodbye! But that 2015 V8 I drove sure was a gas!

I agree. The after-buying satisfaction is totally dependent on the dealership's attitude and attention to detail.
if you are leasing, who cares if it is a 15 or 16, especially if it is basically the same exact car?
I am thinking I am going to cave on something with way more power. A turbo or V6. I do like the smooth grunt in the Acura. A nice Benz V6 would do the trick. Or the 2.0T 4 in a C class.
A V8 though, that might be overkill. And expensive!
The reviews for the 2016 Genesis V8 are fantastic....gets 5 out of 5 stars on Edmunds.
This one is pretty typical: I'm 6 months into a 3yr lease of a '15 Genesis AWD. I've owned many nice cars over the year...Acura TL and RL, Cadillac CTS (prior generation,) Infinity G35 among others. I liked them all, but can honestly say this is by far the best car for the money. I got the Premium Package (I think that's it's called) so the car has most every option. It stickered at roughly $46K. I put $0 down other than 1st month's payment and walked out with a lease payment of $389. That's insane for a car with a $46K msrp! This car will hold it's own against the far more expensive competition...Audi A6, Caddy CTS, BMX 5-series, Mercedes E-Class, you name it. Anyone who drives this car and STILL chooses to pay for more for one of the others is doing it purely for the "snob factor" associated with those badges. If you can look beyond the brand, you will choose this car.
It sounds like an incredible bargain for $46k MSRP and must be a lot less for a 2015, except at the dealer you went to Mike where they are charging more than MSRP for a one year old model. They must have known what they were doing......just seeing if they had a live one on the line
A few weeks ago I also saw on the Hyundai website that they only offer the 2016 Genesis with a V6. The only option is FWD or AWD plus packages that can run the price up pretty fast.
Here is what Edmunds says about the 2016 Genesis lineup:
What's New for 2016 After last year's complete redesign, the Hyundai Genesis carries on virtually unchanged for 2016. HID headlights (previously part of the 3.8 Signature package) and LED daytime running lights are now standard, while LED foglights are optional on the 3.8 model. Genesis 5.0 models now come only in the fully equipped Ultimate trim level, which was previously an option package.
Since Hyundai sells cars whereas Edmunds only talks about cars, I'd have to go with what Hyundai says.
Mike:
I think the question you should ask the Hyundai dealer is "does Hyundai make a V8 for 2016". Not just rely on his answer that he can't get one. That response could only mean that one is not readily available and I got that response myself when I insisted on a V8 last May. That is why I went to Fairfax VA to get mine. Getting an answer to my question will tell the whole story.

I wonder what's up with Hyundai when it comes to the Genesis. I just visited the Hyundai Canada site and all they have there are 2015 models. No ability to spec any 2016s, V-6 or V-8. Maybe they aren't selling here. don't know.

Whenever I see a car in the mall I just want to get in it and re-enact that one chase scene in "The Blues Brothers".
Back in the 80's I worked at a company whose owner bought a brand new Rolls every year. A lot of people thought that the owner should not do that and instead give the employees raises with the money. We figured out how much it was costing him to buy a new Rolls each year (not including the cost to run the thing) and figured out that it would provide for a raise of less than 5 cents an hour for all the employees.

abaco I pulled into the customer parking area and before I could get out of my car, a tall gentleman was standing right by my driver's door. I opened the window and asked if he would be so kind as to step back a little so I could open my door and get out of my car.
Well, at least this guy didn't pull down his pants to get your attention.
The Genesis must have been very impressive if you consider it to be that good. I would do it too if I liked the car that much and if the MB is out of my price range. I hadn't even considered a Genesis that much before, probably would have thought more of a Jaguar if my budget becomes more limited.
You have given me a good Plan B if I need it.
We all need a plan B - trust me!
I'm already on plan Q.

And you thought I had no idea what gets to you! I AM VERY IN TUNE WITH YOUR PERSONALITY. Dry and wry, to be sure!!!
The current version of the Dodge Dart is a compact sedan based on a slightly enlarged Fiat Compact platform that debuted at the 2012 North American International Auto Show on January 9, 2012.[6] The Dart was Dodge's first compact sedan since 2005, when the Dodge Neon was discontinued as part of the end of the PL platform.
The Fiat Compact platform, on which the Alfa Romeo Giulietta is built, was enlarged 1.5 in (38 mm) in width and with a 3.7 in (94 mm) longer wheelbase and is now called the Compact U.S. Wide (CUSW) platform. This modified platform, named PF and adapted to U.S. requirements, took about 18 months to design, with development costs of US$1 billion.
Right out of Wikipedia. I was once interested mildly in a 2012-16 Dodge Dart but moreso in the car the Dart's body is plopped on, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Looking back at the Giulietta's pictures, I don't like either car's look all that much. Sales of the Dodge Dart don't seem all that apalling ta me. Here's some numbers:
Sales in the United States
Total sales
2012 25,304 2013 83,388 2014 83,858 2015 87,392
Those aren't bad sales numbers overall. The Dart got a bad review from everyone's favorite car rating outfit - Consumer Reports, who blamed the car's designers for not doing a good job. And for poor sales. The car is just not what people want. Women want SUV's, where they "feel safer."
From up there they can see better where they're going, eh, and if they can't they can use the huge SUV utility to just plow over any of those pesky Chevy Spark's and Mitsubishi Mirage's that might dare to get in their way. Am I right? It's a safety concern. It goes against a car enthusiast's thinking - it really plows head-on into mine.
Ahh, what do ya do? Time ta go check on that 2016 Scion iA 6-speed MT in Stealth shade selling brand new for only $14,395. See if it's still sitting there. At least. And the beat goes on.
