OK, now for the miles, 25,621. When I got the lifetime tire balancing and lifetime alignment it entitled me to tire rebalancing, rotation and alignment every 5K miles. I remember saying to the guy, "well, I guess I'll only be seeing you about once a year then, based on how many miles my wife drives". His, response was, "that's what the book says but you can bring it in twice a year if you want to, we're not going to hold you to the 5K mile thing". Just another reason why I like this particular Firestone store.
    . ;)

My father got one of those deals from a local chain...free alignment and rotation once a year for the life of the car as long as he owned it. The franchise was sold to a new owner and he wouldn't honor the warranty :'( :@

Speaking of honor. I am going to go after the $299 we paid extra for the 20K and 30K mile service agreement with our VW dealer on the TDI. I want my money back, and should get it, as we will never need those services with the buyback program currently underway. Even if we pass 20K miles (doubtful), why waste money maintaining the TDI when those dollars could be better spent elsewhere (longevity and durability are no longer any concern of ours).
Let us know how you do on that one! It does make sense that you should get your money returned, just don't think it will be easy prying it away from them.

Interesting that the City would rather waste their money fighting an unwinnable battle in the courts than just pay their dues. The fact that this city in Ohio is still raising revenue with these things is dispicable.

I got my 3 year policy at Tires Plus which Firestone happens to own. I was told I could go into any Firestone store and they would honor it.
I got the 20k and 30K services pre-paid for $158.00 when I was in the finance office. Figured it was an o k deal but did have to put it on my credit card since I had already gotten a bank check made out to the dealer for the exact amount owed after the down and trade in price were subtracted. Had no idea I'd end up purchasing the two future services but since the wife had done the same thing on the A3, figured might as well. So I'm definitely gonna keep it till after I hit that mileage.

I live in Butler County, also (but not this particular 'burg). They're trying to make this story a little more absurd than it really is.

The red light camera company and the municipality lost the law suit. What the plaintiffs want is for the red light camera company to pay the fines. The red light camera company is painting this like they want the citizens of New Miami to pay the fines through another redlight camera installation while the judgement is appealed.

They played fast and loose with the quotes, taking them out of context.

Make no mistake, the people of New Miami want the red light camera company to pay the fines, not the citizens.

You should be able to get more than $1750 in discounts at this stage. Bought mine on 7/20 and got about $4k in discounts and over allowances on trade. At that time there was only $500 in customer money.

Same color combo as mine. Would rather have had the premium brown interior but it was early in the production run for '15s and was black or nothing. Great car and a blast to drive. Discounts should be pretty deep; I got about $4,300 off in Dec '14 and the car was in much higher demand back then.

I didn't look at the sticker on the one you posted the link for but my MSRP was within a few hundred bucks of it.

I agree! I know peop[le have different tastes, but almost any color rather than black interior adds to the car. I like the red+black with a red/black or white exterior:

    Brown is good:

    Black...not so much:

I noticed it when I was at the MB dealer on Wednesday. Black interior seemed to be the least attractive to me....but, these things are personal taste things.

    @graphicguy - nice color!

Just finished up my first 'official' trip to the office. 3 days of meetings; I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

Ended up 2.5 hours late on our flight last night. Plane was an hour late getting into SFO, then we sat on the tarmac for another 90 minutes while a seat was repaired.

Landed at 11:30 last night; walked in the front door at 12:30. Back at it today.

My forced vacation is officially over.

    But I love it.

NOt a proponent of black interiors, but it seems car manufacturers love them. In the California Mustang, it's pretty nice. Seats have suede insters and red stiching, as do the doors and dash.

I told the Ford dealer that I was interested in his car (very NICE cars given their performance). It's not the CTS, but the CTS won't come close to the performance, either. I was upfront with the dealer and told him I was really just shopping. Of course, he asked what I was shopping for. Told him (Challenger, Camaro, maybe even a BMW M235i). But, said his real competition was a '98 Cobra convertible.

He said no way he could compete with that. Anyway, made an offer of $38,500 on an MSRP of $42,965. They came back with..."we really want your business....how about $37,500?"

I've NEVER had a dealer come in with a number lower than mine. I'm guessing there's some more trunk money I don't know about (say, about $1,000 worth). Still, never had that happen.

Meanwhile, the Cobra owner said he'd sell it for $11K. As I told him, while he was thinking about it, I am also looking at another option.

Decisions.....decisions.....! Kind of liking the new Mustang for many reasons....biggest one, I really like the dealer.

How's this for a baloney offer.

My Ford dealer sent be a "private offer" bonus of $750 on a new Ford. Unlike GG's $750 discount it isn't good on a Mustang GT. Not to mention all Ford ads are touting $750 discounts for any Joe off the street.

These kind of phony "specials" tick me off and are likely to make be buy anything but a Ford. Do they think I'm stupid?

*2015/2016/2017 vehicles. $750 on most Ford or Lincoln vehicles. Not available on 2017 Lincoln Continental, Ford GT, Raptor, Focus RS, Mustang Shelby GT350®, Mustang Shelby® GT500® and Mustang 50 Years Limited Edition. May not combine with other private, conquest or commercial offers. A/Z/D Plan ineligible. Nontransferable out of household. Limit one per household. U.S. residents. First thing is you have to carefully read the paperwork you signed for the service agreement. That paperwork should spell out the policy for refunds and their lawyers would have gone over it with a fine tooth comb to make sure it complied with the laws of your state. So go by that as a guide.

Secondly, I am not sure how this buy back works but if you are having any communications with VW I would also take this to them. You bought the car in good faith and the dealership sold it to you in good faith. That $299 is money you spent to get the car and is essentially part of the cost of buying the car (the service has not been performed). It isn't the actions of the dealer that made you lose out on that $299, nor was it your actions. It is the premeditated malicious actions of VW that has caused you this loss. They are the ones that caused this loss and they should make it right.

Also don't drive it past the 20K mark as it might give them a reason to deny part of the refund.

Let us know how it goes.

One question I do have about the Mustang deal. It is a 2016 model and won't the 17s be out in another month or two, and won't the value of the car depreciate by $4 or $5000 once the new one's are out.....especially if you want to trade it in next year on something else? :s

Yep, better to just wait until the new cars hit the showroom.

Then, you need to wait a couple of months for the hype to die down and let the prices settle. If you are the first on the block, you'll pay through the nose. And then you'll be busy for the holidays so you may as well let that excitement fade and give the new model a chance to work through any new issues so the factory can slipstream in any fixes.

By now you are in prime time, except that you'll want to beat the winter blues and take a nice beach vaca with that down payment money burning a hole in your pocket.

When you get home, you'll be enjoying Spring and looking forward to the heat of summer when it's too hot to think about cruising the car lots. Oh, we're there now.

(I've saved thousands over the years doing just this. :D )

My friend and his wife went out with friends who have a new Tesla X

The owner was showing everyone how he could drive with no hands,
The car in front came to a quick start.
Tesla does stopping by computers and stops at last minute and comes close to car in front.
Tesla driver takes control and veers to the right....that lane seems clearer...part way in lane to right. That lane stops suddenly.
Tesla driver swerves back into original lane.
Driver behind doesn't expect car to come back, narrowly misses plowing into the Tesla....driver behind gets angry, roars around Tesla waving his finger and yelling and screaming.

Also, I was reading, human brain gets too bored letting the car drive itself, but having to still be in control. The mind wanders, and can't pay attention if not actively engaged.

I can see self driving cars if one lane, far left lane is for self driving cars, all going the same speed, on a long run, from say Detroit to Tampa. You get out of your lane to pull over...like getting out of an HOV lane.

@oldfarmer, The GT500 is excluded, but not the GT.

Yeah, you're right that's the $400k GT not the Mustang GT.

    It's still a baloney offer.

I'm surprised they held the flight up for one broken seat, rather than tagging it out of service until it could be fixed overnight. Funniest interior thing I ever experienced was a latch problem on an overhead bin. Union rules, so several different types of airline employees looked at it before they sent an actual mechanic. What does this highly skilled individual do - duct tapes it closed and affixes a "do not use" tag :D

SFO - get used to flight delays Michaell. Runway separation and weather frequently slows things down.

I hate flying these days. There is nothing pleasant about it....lining up, being searched, delays, feel like cattle, pay for extras like a crappy sandwich or for luggage, fight for parking, on and on.

That is a great dealer - I'm impressed.

I still say you get both!

    +1

With the money you saved on the discount you could almost do it!
Like how 'y'all like spending my money....LOL!
C'mon man, if I had your money I could burn mine. ;)

Speaking of Hands-free driving, GM has just acquired Cruise Automation, a Silicon Valley start-up, for approximately $580 million. Cruise Automation has 10 employees and working only on one Audi model. They claim their "cruise" technology has leaped-frogged Google and poised to make a big splash (pun intended) in the auto industry.

So, shopping done. Won't keep you in suspense. Drove the Cobra and it is "All That".

I think Snakeweasal put it into perspective for me.....drop top, great condition, fun, it's a Cobra. I bought it last night.

Thought about it. What tilted it was tying up $37K on a car I'll only drive 5 months out of the year. And, I doubt I'll ever run into a car like the Cobra ever again. If I decide to sell it, I won't lose nearly the money I would lose on the new GT.

Don't get me wrong....GT was a fun drive. And, for all intents and purposes, the price was right.

The Cobra was tough to pass up, though. It's practically an 18 year old new car. In two years, I'll be able to put historical plates on it.

The seller ended up being a nice guy. Not sure if I mentioned, his wife bought the Cobra new for him on their 20th wedding anniversary. It's never seen rain, nor snow....always garaged. All paperwork on it, even the MSRP sticker...oil change receipts, new tires (to replace the ones that had flat spots, new battery, new convertible boot (he said the old one never fit right, so he bought a new one, which does fit right).

Just a very, very nice car.

Craig....I would have jumped all over that GT on the spot with the offer they made if I didn't have the Cobra on the table, too. I told them that I was looking at the Cobra, also.

It really was a tough choice because the new Mustangs are probably the performance bargains of this decade. They are a little soft in the handling dept (my CTS actually does a better job), but man are they fun. Plus, they've got all the track apps (of which I'd use maybe a dozen times) and all the modern stuff cars come with these days like bluetooth, heated/cooled seats, etc.

For a nice weather weekend car, I think the Cobra will do just fine.

Got to get the title transferred today and will take pics, then.

Thanks for everyone's input. You guys have all been helpful.

    @garphicguy.
Congrats on buying the Cobra. If you had decided on something else, I was going to ask you for the guy's contact info.
Speaking of flying, kids just landed in Munich this morning. We are flying into Hamburg later today and they will meet us in a couple of days.

Well glad I could help. from what you have told us about the Cobra getting it for 1/3rd the price of the Mustang GT is the better deal. I would have chosen it too.

Keep us updated and post some pics.

GG, You bought the Cobra for all the right reasons....sounds like a very good decision, and it is one very unique car, should be a blast to own and drive.

Explorer, have a good trip, hope it all goes smoothly. Munich.....we are going for a vacation to Switzerland in September, we return from Munich. You try to pick safe places to go, and, you just never know.
