Farmer, if you want to go with the other big Ford, and don't mind a few more miles (which I know you do!), here is a nicely loaded one, for even less money. and cheaper, is better!

Small wagons? Almost non existent in US market

Which is a shame as a small wagons are a pretty good utility vehicle while maintaining many sedan qualities.

On another topic one guy made a good point, my banged up car may be worth more as parts then then it would trying to put it back together. Engine and front end should be fine, as well as the interior.

They'll probably saw it in half and weld your front to the back of another that took a front hit. Did any airbags deploy?

Maybe you could get Red Green to duct tape them together.

Beautiful! I agree the white is the best choice. Hard to argue with something that nice.

BTW, the cars mentioned above are Buick LeSabres. For what it's worth both my wife and son chose the 2005. Not sure if the son knows I'm buying it for him but he probably suspects since I've been showing him pictures of cars for a month.

That's nice. Top end model for not a lot of money. I've looked at a few Taurui and found a few 2003-2005s for under $4k with 70k miles or so but dithered too long and they were sold.

OldFarmer.....at first, I thought you'd have to dump ANYTHING with a vinyl roof. Once I found out if was for your son, least expensive, the better. They're both going to be relatively safe cars, and that's all that matters for our offspring. Save some duckets and go with the cheapest one at that juncture.

Driver....stunning! That's a very nice E, and although I'm not happy about your circumstances, I am happy for you for lining up what looks to be quite a nice car.

I might have mentioned this before, but there was a guy with the screen name 1487 over on the old Inside Line blog. He was a lot of fun to bait into an argument. Somebody created a l487(lower case "L" instead of "1") screen name and impersonated the "real" 1487. He did it so well that it was hard to spot him at first. Hilarity ensued when the real guy and the impostor went head-to-head.

I wish; the impostor was REALLY good. I wish there was an archive of all that stuff- 1487 was like a cat chasing a laser pointer responding to all the posts that baited him, and the fake 1487 ramped up the hysteria to a new level. 1487 finally left when he was outed as an owner/spokesperson for the new Regal in some online Buick ads. Based on his writing style I had envisioned him as a cross between Dwight Schrute(The Office) and Sheldon Cooper(The Big Bang Theory)- I wasn't even close...

So, the wife and I talked.

Well, it was more like a cross-examination.

The upshot is, I'm waiting until October or November to make a deal.

She wants to know why I just wouldn't get another Hyundai.

I've tried to explain, but it's falling on deaf ears.

why does she care what car you get? It is an appliance lease, so really the only thing that should matter is if you keep the payment below the budget limit!

I did get behind a new Elantra SE today. amazing how much it looks like a 7/8 scale (3/4?) Sonata. in and out. Really a lot different than your current ride. So certainly not a hardship.

farmer, that is my plan. Just wear her down with constant talk, until she just says get whatever, spend whatever I am comfortable with, just don't bother her, and don't ask her to go to a dealer until I am serious about getting something.

she also knows I am too cheap to spend a crazy amount of money, even with a blank check. she ain't no dummy.

Well, I had fun Thursday; about 15 minutes before I was scheduled to clock out three transporters arrived-at almost exactly the same time-to deliver 17 new BMWs. Everyone else was busy so I wound up logging in all of them. I had to inspect each one to make sure every car was undamaged and had two keys, the owners manual, and any and all removable items that should be present(floor mats, cargo nets, etc.). Once I inspected all the cars and signed the bills of lading I had to move all the cars to our lower lot(one transport driver was able to unload 7 of the cars there but I had to move the other 10). Finally, I had to prepare a large envelope for each car with the year model and VIN written on the outside and the keys and window sticker on the inside.

So basically I was responsible for over $1,100,000 worth of cars-with keys still in them-for a couple of hours.
On the upside, it wasn't raining- and as an hourly worker I was paid for the added time.
    And I didn't lose any.

That morning I had to deal with a very unhappy customer who was turning in her leased car. I'll tell that story later if anyone is interested...

I usually help folks on the front end of the lease transaction; would be a nice balance to hear some end-of-lease stories, both good and bad.

Speaking of which, the 2017 E400 has the self driving feature if you buy that option. One thing it will do is, say you are in a lane and want to change lanes. Put your left signal on, and when it is clear the car will move into the left lane by itself. I have used the self parking feature twice in 2 years. Do I trust the car to move me when it is clear....not really. The salesman says you don't want to relinquish control? I said no. He said, I understand. :D
