10-15% off on discontinued models at this late date? Doesn't seem like enough. Especially when half the reason for getting high end luxury is to have the newest and the bestest.

If I buy a 2017 the dealer will take off 3%. One years depreciation is going to be at least 15%. I seem to be trading cars every 3 or 4 years unless something changes (can't go to Florida for health reasons, retirement funds are affected by stock market, a Nigerian Prince needs my bank account so he can wire me a few $100 million) so it just wouldn't make sense. If you keep a car for 10 years, you would probably come out ahead, I think at least 6 or 7 years minimum to come out ahead.
Very nice! I love me some Zaino. Nice monkey pics also following the Cobra pics.

Forget that, he posted his license plate. Now obsessed Edmunds posters will be tracking him down and stalking him. Didn't he ever look at a CL ad?
Isn't there something about if you post a picture, the bad guys can figure out your location anyway, even without a license plate?
When, and if, I ever get my new car I'll have to drive it out of town and take my pictures there.
The only way they can get your location is if there is some landmark in the background that tips them off or your camera has GPS and is set to record the location where the picture is taken. So if you are taking the pictures using your phone turn off the location function.

Would you call someone who leases a Kia a Kia convert, or, do they have ta actually purchase a new Kia ta be considered a bonafide Kia convert? Regardless of what might be the answer to that question, congrats andres3!

Yes, the bank account couldn't justify keeping the former S4 as a "beater" as you call it. However, the TTS really is a fun toy, and will be relegated to non-work day duty for the most part.
The Optima isn't cheap, being new and a lease, but my dabbling in the used Honda and Acura market didn't net any acceptable deals. Those two makes just don't lose hardly any value regardless of miles or years. Still, I think the Optima will save me money in the long run, as it allows me to not waste top of the line tire rubber slogging in rush hour traffic.
I kept the Wife's Golf TDI, and the TTS isn't going anywhere anytime soon (barring an act of God or negligent driver ruining it *knock on wood* that doesn't ever happen). The wife is leaning towards having the TDI bought back, but that'll happen next Spring if that's what she chooses. Might as well get our money's worth on the non-refundable State's yearly licensing and registration fees.
I love the TTS (especially tuned to work like it is supposed to work). I can see keeping that toy for a long, long time. Especially if it as reliable the next 80K miles as it was the first 8K miles.
Even with the stock wheels and tires, and my experienced "spirited" driving in canyon carving and on the track, I really can't see going any faster on public roadways than I can already go. I'd have to memorize every turn on a highway to go any faster.

It's a limo compared to the TTS. I can almost put the TTS in the trunk of the Optima if I fold the seats down
Amazingly, Kia has lightened the chassis of the Optima to get within a few pounds of the TTS! That's how they are able to achieve those very high EPA numbers on fuel economy. It is also why it handles so well for a big mid-sizer sedan!

Congrats on your labor day purchase. Love the Optima it is a very nice car. A couple years ago I had one as a loaner and it was great, albeit a little noisy. I am sure with improvements over the years road and engine noise have been hushed. Enjoy the ride.

I turn off GPS location tracking on all cameras in our house - iPhones, iPads, SLRs, etc - I do not want that floating around when we post pictures.
Where on the iPad would you go to check? No cell so no worries there and I don't even know what a SLR is so I'm guessing I don't have one of those either.

SLR means Single Lens Reflex, it's a type of camera where when you look through the viewfinder you are actually looking through the lens. It's the type of camera that professionals use where they can switch out lenses.

Chicago has some very nice architecture Snake. I always felt that two of the nicest skylines to fly over are Chicago and Miami. Going into LaGuardia, New York City is massive and impressive, but I don't think it is really all that aesthetic, other than central park in the middle of it all. It is a good city though and LGA can challenge you whether using the runway or just getting to it from the highways sometimes.

Is he limping along (surely not on runflats) at the end instead of pulling off on the shoulder - you know, when he looks to be "only" going 40 or 50 and grabs his phone?

Proves my point that people only text and talk on their phones when they are driving under 100 MPH. Raise the speed limits, raise safety by less distracted driving.

I guess great minds think alike at least ours do.
That grabbing for the cell phone without getting off the road completely is what stood out to me also. I think the Porsche car gods would yank your license if you couldn't drive one handed at less than 100 MPH although this scaredy cat was only going, as you said, about 40 or 50 MPH.
The only time I have ever been on the ground going around 200 MPH was when I was in the Navy and we were practicing higher than normal touch and go landing speeds in a C-130. I have never felt the need for autobahn speeds, so a trip to Germany would be a waste for me but Son #1 would like to try it and has said a couple of times..."someday".
That pulling over to right to allow the faster moving cars to pass is purely a survival strategy, not a courtesy.

I'd hate ta think that legislation is going to have ta be needed that bans cellular phones in cars completely, but, well...maybe it'll be required. Takes away too much of the usefulness of the device, doesn't it? Might need some sort of electronic part installed that "sniffs out" any cell phones in the car and disalloys starting the car with cells inside it.
Ughh. But this problem with distracted driving isn't going ta go away, unfortunately.
There will never be a law passed to ban handheld phone use in cars. The cell phone lobby will stop that. We normal folks have no chance against the stinkin' lobbyists on any issue. Such a shame our country has come to this. It's just like other countries where open bribery is the norm.
Missed out on a big Labor Day Sale, but had a fun weekend anyway.
So did I.
It's a beautiful city from the water.
One of my favorite views of one of my favorite cities. The River Walk area really has turned out nicely.
Our nephew has a condo in a building right on the north branch of the Chicago river. There is a small marina there where you can rent small boats. That's what we did on Sunday.

So does that mean I have to leave my phone at home in order to go anywhere?
Does that mean when I arrive at the airport pull out my Uber app and call up a ride and when I get in the car the poor mans (or womans) car goes dead unless I leave my phone at the airport?

It is in effect here in Nova Scotia and I think is pretty common in most provinces of Canada that you cannot use a handheld phone while driving. Of course, we are a nanny state here.

There are many jurisdictions where handheld phone use is illegal.
I have a smart watch which I can use to answer my phone when it rings simply by saying "answer" (saying "reject" sends it to voicemail) and then using the watch as a speaker phone. so my question is, is it still hands free if it's attached to my wrist?

At this point, I don't even know that a law would stop those who cannot put their phones down anywhere, much less behind the wheel. Living in a college town, I'm kind of surprised we don't have more car-car and car-pedestrian interactions given how "connected" everyone seems to be.

I'd favor an electronic signal that would disable a cell phone in a car unless the transmission was in Park and the same with the visual display of a GPS.
