If it is high style modern furniture from that era, it could have value. I think some catalog houses had designs by noted people.
But if it isn't, the intrinsic value may exceed market value. I remember when we cleared out my great-grandmother's place in 1999 (she remained in the house until age 99, not bad), we gave away most of the common old upholstered and general 50s-70s style stuff to relatives and neighbors, as it wasn't going to be worth the effort of selling. I was a student at the time, and didn't take any of it.
We still have our antique bedroom set which we bought new from Montgomery Wards in 1968. That thing must be worth a fortune by now. It's in one of the guest rooms, built of solid wood, and apparently it will never wear out.
Our stuff is like @houdini1's - weighs a ton and the sellers moved to PA and didn't want to pay the freight. And it fits the vernacular architecture around here and would look a bit out of place back East or up your way.
Whaddaya think, gang, if this ridiculous speeding debate keeps up here, should we just change the title of the forum and move over to another one where that is off-topic and not to be discussed ad nauseum?

My above post was really long, so here is the short version and summary conclusion quoted/copied and pasted from link above written by Robert O. Yowell:
The estimated effects reveal that the assertion that speed kills, and more speed
kills more is mostly unfounded. The model employed does not allow me to reject
faithfully the null hypothesis that raising the speed limit in the examined states
had no effect on fatality rates, adjusting for several factors. Table 2 organizes the
results of Table 1 by resulting speed limit, revealing no visible correlation between
state speed limit and its effect on fatality rate. Given the inquiry here, there is no
widespread positive relationship between raising the speed limit and fatality rate.
And another gov't oops!:
....It is worthy to note that repeal proponents cite a factually false report by the NHTSA, which exaggerated
the Autobahn fatality rate, as ammunition against the repeal. The NHTSA has since apologized
for the issuance of the information,.......
For those that like to read in a book style format, here's another good one:

Chapter 8 is key.
Someone mentioned I should cancel my Sirius Radio since my car has been destroyed. I called today and they were very accommodating, compared to the way they were in the early days....very untrustworthy! I hope they really can be trusted now. Here is what they will do.......my subscription is good to May 15 2017. They will put my account on hold for max of 90 days. Just before the 90 days, on Dec 19, I call and hold the account for 90 days again. About that time I should have my new car with 6 months free Sirius. I keep my subscription on hold until the 6 months free are up, then they will use the money in my account toward a new subscription when the old one is over.......hopefully that will be at a sane reduced rate...not their full MSRP.
Thanks for reminding me to look into that....hate for it to keep gioing and then automatically get renewed for full price in May, for a car that isn't on the road.
It sounds like you have the automatic renewal subscription thing. If you do you should cancel that feature ASAP.
I have had Sirius since 2009 and I have never opted for that automatic thing. I have them send me a bill after I tell them I'll cancel if they don't give me the past years rate and I do this for both cars every year at different times because of when the cars were purchased. There is a 2 dollar fee to have the bill sent but I would rather pay the billing fee than try to unwind an automatic charge that hits my credit card every year at the full pop rate.
FWIW, I think their customer service is better today than years ago but I never really had a problem with there old people; it's just that they seem to be more accommodating the last few years.
jmonroe
That would be worth trying the next time around. For $2 it would be well worth it. For now, I mark the date for renewal on my calendar, and it comes up a few weeks before the deadline. They tell me what the cost to renew will be and I tell them I won't pay more than I did last time, and they kind of hesitate and then give it to me at about the same rate.
I find they are "more accommodating" the last few years to........the old scam tricks just backfire.

We did wind up with two circa 1905 dressers from Parral, Chihuahua, as verified by the prior owners who hooked up with the Antiques Roadshow. They came with the house. You can't really tell the difference between them and the new stuff that gets hauled up here from Juárez though.
They remind me a lot of sedans that way - I can't tell them apart either.

Hate to tell you this but for furniture, or anything else, to be an antique it must be 100 years old or older. So keep it for another 52 years and you will be set.

Accident risk is not linear to speed increases but as absolute speed increases, so does accident risk probability.
Bottom line, the faster you go, the less time to react, and the greater the force with which you hit something.
Not only is there less time to react but it takes longer to react. Double your speed and stopping distance goes up 4 times. Not only that but it is harder to turn and to swerve to miss an obstacle. It also make it harder to regain control if you start to lose it.

Anyone know a lawyer in Vista, CA that'll work Pro-Bono on a red light traffic case?
What a waste; really not looking forward to that day, but heck, $550 or so is on the line, so I at least have to take a swing.
I think a trial by declaration (mail) might be my best bet.
Pros: No wasted time pleading not guilty in person at the Court; can do it all by mail. Get a free shot at a Trial De Novo when/if (yeah right) I lose by mail (retrial is with Officer present). With standard trial you have to waste two morning or two afternoons (one to plead/arraignment, one for actual trial).
Cons: Have to pay the full amount of the fine as bail ahead of time, and wait for a refund should I be lucky enough to win the case or have it dismissed. Probably not as effective for having the officer forget about the ticket and not show up as just scheduling a normal trial to begin with (without forcing him to write a letter in a previous trial by declaration). Sort of invests him in the case to show up.
I blew it when I didn't ask for the County Seat at the time of the citation. That would have increased my chances of a no-show dismissal by at least 1,000% as it is a Vista based Sheriff with the North county court in Vista! The County seat would have made him drive 25+ miles away!

Well right now the games are pretty much meaningless. The Cubs are the division champs and most of the games they are playing will be against teams that have no chance to make the playoffs and the Cubs almost have a lock on home field advantage through the NL Championship. So now the Cubs have the opportunity to rest players and get other players out into the field for some playing experience. So right now having a healthy team with well rested players for the playoffs would be more important than winning games. So I am not to worried.

RB....how willing is Swope to do skinny deals on BMWs, say a 2, 3 or 4 series?
It's now BMW of Louisville; the Swope dealer group was bought by AMSI. They would probably be willing to really deal on any of the 2016 cars- but advertised discounts run anywhere from $1600-$5000 depending on the model.
Wow....I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Just toying with the idea....not really looking. But, if I were going to pull the trigger, it would be for a '16, given they are being "discounted" and the longer warranty (compared to the '17s).
I'd take a pretty big hit on my CTS, too. And, it's running/driving very well.
So, kicking around ideas.
Thanks!
What happened to the warranty?
Driver....BMW is dropping one year from their bumper-to-bumper maintenance plan, which is 4 years on the '16s and 3 years on the '17s. So, not warranty, per se, but their shortning the maintenance they'll cover.
Maybe not a huge deal, but all of a sudden what would probably be brakes, filter changes, etc...stuff that would likely need to be addressed in that 4th year, now are not paid for by BMW.
Speaking of British Rover....while in Innsbruck I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a Rover convertible. Apparently it is the only convertible SUV available. Not a bad concept I guess. I think they should offer some SUVs as more of a car model, with a trunk, say like a Jeep. Give you the advantages of an SUV but with a trunk instead of that big cavern where stuff can roll and slosh around.
Well at least they beat Cincinnati--but then, who couldn't?
Hey....I resemble that remark.
Reds were horrid the first half of hte season. They were just mediocre the 2nd half. They told us they would be rebuilding. But, they let key players go (Johnny Cueto) and backed the truck up for others (Homer Bailey). You can rebuild around Cueto and Joey Votto. Homer Bailey? Not so much!
Like all sports...."there's always next year".
Glad to see the Cubs back in the thick of it. I've always liked them, and enoy going to Wrigley a couple times/year. Cardinals? Obnoxious players and fans.....the LaRussa effect still lingers there.
And yes, welcome back Brittish Rover! Good to hear from you, again! What's up with you these days?

Thanks for explaining GG. Kind of makes me think the payout on that 4th year was getting a little high, but, then it means they aren't backing their cars as much as they used to. Then again, you pay $1200 for a 3 year bumper to bumper for Mercedes, and maybe that seems like the direct competition to BMW....so just matching that, except it is kind of included (though as we all know you do pay for it).
Well at least they beat Cincinnati--but then, who couldn't?

I saw a gorgeous Estoril Blue 435 (or is it 440 now) coupe on the way home last night. It was de-badged so I couldn't tell. No front plate (which they will ticket you for in NY). It had special BMWCCA vanity plates that read JUSTA4. I suspect alluding to the fact that it is just a "regular" 435i/440i Coupe and not an ///M4. Beautiful car. Forbidden Fruit.

They are dropping quite a bit more than that. It's no longer "bumper-to-bumper x/tires" maintenance - now it's a specific items maintenance. So not only shorter, but way less inclusive. From their website, those are only included in the maintenance for 2017:
As you can see, things that can really wear out, like brakes or wipers are no longer part of that. So, that may actually be worth a grand or more (brakes alone), depending how you drive. Seems I wouldn't be affected, as my brakes are still strong at 60k, but some people will see a difference. BTW, 36-50K is also period where some fluid changes kick in first time, as well - depending on reading of the computerized system.
My maintenance was quite benign - three oil changes, checks, brake fluid, brake pad sensor reset, couple of new wipers, one cabin filter, one air filter. They also put a new seam in the driver's door for free, twice - (I smashed it when getting in and out of the car and it took me two years to learn how to avoid it - this was a "courtesy" change). So the new program would drop one oil change and wipers.
The change will also open all world of possibilities for the service salespeople, for smoke called advisors. You come for a free oil change and drive away with $1000 bill for all those "essentials" not covered. On my first "free maintenance" visit I was hit with $600 worth of "suggestions", with $200 worth of "you really need it". I refused and many others would too just based on the advertising, as BMW was telling you, you pay nothing, but tires. Now they will say you pay everything except those few things. Completely different message. It's already happening - all the "free maintenance" ads have asterisks saying it's for 2016 models. Let's wait until 2016 wears off.
Can't say I understand it. My CTS had 8 and it did not even use those efficiently, IMHO. It could have easily used 5 or 6 for all acceleration and utilize a super high 7th for steady state cruising. Yet the RPM differences between the top 3 gears was negligible.
They're fighting for every drop of fuel, to meet CAFE standards. If dropping 200 rpm downhill means extra 1 percent, that's what they will do (and you will pay). Government mandated big improvements and some completely crazy numbers are being thrown by current administration for the future. If we get "continuity" there, it may become reality.

Does your Pilot seem that much quicker than your Legacy? I don't find our 2wd Pilot to be that quick, though I do find the transmission to be responsive and the engine has a good sound to it when pushed.
It has become somewhat chaotic around here with gas lines and some shortages caused by the gas pipeline leak in Alabama. Gas prices are spiking as well. Leave it to the press to hype it up.

But, this one suits me more....I prefer a more classic look to the racing model, especially in ugly green.

Maybe not a huge deal, but all of a sudden what would probably be brakes, filter changes, etc...stuff that would likely need to be addressed in that 4th year, now are not paid for by BMW.
What's that worth? I dunno....$500-$750? Maybe?

Now since the All Star break the Reds are one game over 500.

On a side note, I took my wife's Pilot yesterday because it had no gas (DTE 9). I stop & get coffee at a gas station on my way to work, whereas she doesn't pass a gas station so I filled it up & got my caffeine fix for the AM. It was nice to drive a car that passes when you step on it.

Engine Oil, Engine Filter, Brake Fluid, Cabin Micro Filter(s), Engine Air Filter(s), Spark Plugs, Remote Control/Key Battery, Vehicle Check, Fuel Filter (Diesel engines only).
