Driver- True on that FWD being difficult to deal with at times. Pulling out into traffic with strong acceleration will give me the unwanted front wheels squealing. Not good. Worse when roads are wet. So have to give myself a little more space.

Oldfarmer - LOL on the "contraption" to get me in and out of a Mustang. Nice. Shoot, I would like one of those things just for every day living. :D

My Mariner is a 2008. Pretty sure it has that 3.0 200hp duratec engine. Sounds like the Sable has the same engine, believe they used the duratec as well. Get that old lady carbon out we'll go drag racing. ;)

I think I have these scammer Craigslist ads figured out. They're really coded communication between terrorists. Why else would someone post this:

What's been going on guys? Seeing a lot of the same names I first saw over a dozen years ago. Way to hang in there. :-)

Still driving my 2008 Mercury Mariner. Looking to change coolant and plugs at 110k, a bit over manual. Put on set pair of rear brakes after only 2 years. Wifes 2012 Hyundai Veracruz doing well. Son will turn 16in March. He wants a Camero for his birthday. Yeah, right. Jipster says no way. ;-)

    Welcome Back! Stay awhile.
Thanks Driver. Just got a new tablet. Kindle HD 8" . Makes it a lot easier to post... with my big meaty hands. Been posting quite a bit on Tennis Warehouse. But always remember you guys are my fave...even that Jmonroe guy. ;)
I just bought tennis shoes from Tennis Warehouse. I checked to see who has some in the area and I would have to drive about 20 miles just to try some, and who knows what kinds these little stores sell. So I ordered from TW, free shipping over $100 and free return if they don't fit. Sometimes buying online is a good thing.
Welcome back Jipster. Isell is retired, and in spite of his past being robbed by Edmund's, he is doing fine.

Bought my Fusion just over a week ago.
Now there is an extra $1000 incentive.
I still think I made the right decision buying when I did.
Looked for a long time and a lot of the vehicles I looked at sold because I couldn't pull the trigger.
The most important thing is to get a good car, which I feel like I did.

Did you use "The Jipst Method of Car Buying"? Bobst copied this method from me and made a fortune. (old joke. see archives) :)
Is that the method where you run into the dealership waving a fistful of cash and yelling, "Who wants to sell me a car today"?

I agree on the Camero. It's a Mustang or nothing. Welcome back. B)

I remember now you had bought a Mustang oldfarmer. I'd like one myself, but with my recent back trouble, don't think I'd be able get inside. :'(
You just have to get this option when you buy it. :p
Those contraptions really work. My MIL had one - I always told her that when she died I was going to keep it so I could swap car engines out.

Anyway, I got it in May of '15 to celebrate my retirement in February of '15. Yeah, I know I'm still a little sloooow. Went to VA to get it. Doesn't even have 6K miles on it yet. Should last me a while and I'll need the time to figure out a way to convince Mrs. j that I deserve a new car in a few years.

You sound a lot like me with my ATS. It too was a retirement car, acquired a few months after I packed it in. But it is just coming up on 6000 miles now, 2 years after getting it. I love it, but the problem I am starting to think about is what to do when the lease expires in a year's time, do I buy it out and keep it for a while, or do I jump into something new? Decision, decisions...

You had to know her I guess. She was a sharp old bird, worked up until the last few months in her mid 80s. Shoot, she was my wife's step-mom at that and we still took on the caregiving for her. Some people are just fun to be around. And she had been an RN so appreciated gallows humor.

The car I bought had very recently been delivered to the dealer. It has a 9/16 build date.
There weren't even any pictures of the car on the dealer website yet.
I'm sure it would have been gone, if I had waited.
Basically, price was $200 over invoice, plus they included a set of winter mats, $1,000 incentive and 0% for 5 years.
The car is very quiet at idle. I left it running a couple of times(has push button start, so no key to remove when turning the car off).

    Was your purchase a 2016 or 2017?

Why would you return a lease with low milage like that? I assume you have a guarenteed buy out price. Compare that to purchasing a 3 yo ATS with 9000 miles. Can't see how you could lose.

hey, 3 years is a long time.

at my current pace, in 1 year when my Sonata goes back, it will be right in the 20-21K range. Still no intention of buying it. Even with the low miles, probably not a good financial deal. Plus, why pass up the opportunity to get something different?

When I got it, the Finance guy even said not to. Partly because of the residual, but also something with the warranty. I think it was that the 10/100,000 piece did not transfer (that only goes to the original owner). So it was better to let it go back, and buy a replacement CPO if you want one

If it is an aggressively subvented lease the cost to buy the car may be much higher than the retail cost. I can almost guarantee that the buyout on my wife's i3 will be several thousand dollars more than a similar i3 on the retail market.

In case you missed my reply to your post on my wall, the Quest got over 200k and we then we suffered hard to diagnose distributor problems with it. That was around 2.5 years ago. Got that fixed in Detroit and then the AC died. So we sold it to a kid cheap on craigslist up in the UP since we planned to move to New Mexico. Got an '09 Grand Caravan and used it to move in (3 trips). It's about to hit Shifty's mandatory retirement age of 170,000 miles.

That's why I was wondering about your Civic - the new Civic Hatch is pretty nice.

That's 175K--I've been misquoted! :'( Anyway, it wasn't a mandatory retirement age, it was the statistical life expectancy....the bell curve bulge if you will, of when structural aging, accident or major component failure renders the average vehicle a candidate for the wrecking yard.

Driver, how's your tennis coming along? I got a local pro shop to match the price on a pair of new balance shoes from Tennis Warehouse. Looking to get a new racquet maybe for Xmas.

Explorer, yeah, my Mariner is running good. So a bit reluctant to get it tuned up. It has the same 3.0/Duratec engine my old 2004 MPV had. You have to remove the upper manifold to get to those 3 plugs in the back. A lot of cables and components to detach. The Mariner has a ton of front end torque though. Can probably squeel my tires as good as oldfarmers Mustang. ;)

    That is what I got, New Balance Shoes. Back home I support my local tennis shop, it is nice to support the local guy. Most tennis shops are pretty marginal, but our local guy just bought a new Corvette. Down here I would have to drive 20 miles to get to a tiny shop without much choice. I went all out and gotr the deluxe model;

My tennis game has improved, I am trying to play at the level the guys here in Florida play at, so I have worked hard to get to this level.

Now, I am also into pickleball, usually play one or the other each day. Pickleball is easier on the body but is also a lot of fun.

FWD has some advantages, but that front end torque is hard to deal with, the car just doesn't do what you hope it will do.
Doesn't pickleball re-inforce bad tennis habits, or did I just make that up? :p

Your decision is based entirely on what you want. If you like it you buy it. If not, you get another car for a few years. It's not like you have to get permission, right? :'(

Not quite, but pball can adversely affect your tennis game, and it sure ruined my - not so great to begin with, tennis game.

Tennis has a long stroke and a follow through, all done as smoothly as possible. Pball has a lot of quick little moves, no time to follow through. Some people aren't affected, some like me have to learn to separate the two games. Fortunately, a friend who is an excellent tennis player taught me the basics of tennis all over again. Now, I believe, Pball, actually has improved my tennis game, especially since a lot of the play takes place at the net...where I am really weak in tennis.

That is a harder decision than what it sounds. If you love the car, and don't need to change, it is best to buy it back and then you can probably sell it and even make money on it a year or two don the road. But, if you see something you like more, go for it. You will be out a bit but if it doesn't change your life too much why not enjoy what you want to enjoy.

I found it hard to save money I didn't have to spend. But, one thing I have learned is buy what you like providing you can afford it, that is part of living successfully. Saving money just because you can isn't living life for maximum enjoyment....getting things that make your life more enjoyable (within reason and that you can comfortably pay for) will probably do that.

OF, not sure if there is someone around better qualified to help you out, but I think you did it right....especially if you pressed saved. You may have to update your page by pressing the F5 button at the top or by going out of C&C and coming back in.

I just made a change to mine, and it showed up immediately. Of course, I did not write down all the steps, but it was edit profile, then find signature settings, and in the window where your cars are listed, make the change, then make sure to hit submit/save. Heck, hit save a couple of times. That is all I did.

can also try (if you are sure they saved, go back into your edit profile to see what is there) to just close out of edmunds and reopen it. sometimes need to clear what is saved.

My Fusion is a 2017. Was about to post this picture but my boss called and I went into work.
We have a big project in the works. Client testing starts Monday.
He said he was calling me just to let me know of some things I would need to look at.
I decided heading to office immediately was for the best.
Here is a quick picture. It was still light out when I took it.

You summed it up pretty well The buyout at lease-end is $24K. I think a low-miles ATS is probably going to be close to that on the market though obviously I will need to check that out when the time comes. I absolutely love the car and the only thing against it if nothing changes will be that it is a few model years old. Plus I would hate to write a cheque for that amount, but that's just me.

    Let's see.

Nope, clicked signature setting and save but no change. Even logged off and back on.

Beats me, I just tried to edit that field in your profile and it saved it fine. But the changes I made aren't showing up.

You don't really seem like the Pink Cadillac/Gladys Presley kind of guy anyway, so maybe it's just as well that my editing didn't take.

I just changed my profile. Hit "Save" and the page jumped as it reloaded and saved.
I clicked the button that said "Return to profile."
Went to a post I'd made and it had changed the two items in my old post.

But another time months ago when I tried to change my profile, the items didn't change.
I even logged out of Edmunds and reentered my name and password. I don't recall
when it did finally show up with the changes.

My SiriusXM subscription trial expires 11/10. What kind of rate should I expect them to offer if I call
this week about a renewal for a year?

    @driver100,
The paint has a great metal flake to it, that you can't see in the picture.

I like that metal flake affect. Asked for it on my new E400 but it wasn't available yet, though it was supposed to be offered. Would look really good with the darker charcoal....made a slight difference with the white.

You have to call the DAY before it expires to get another promo rate. So annoying.

Plus I would hate to write a cheque for that amount, but that's just me.

Not too many of us like writing out cheques (that is Canadian btw for checks) for that amount.

I feel a bit ripped off writing a cheque for about $2600 in registration fees, service agreement, license etc. to get a car that is 2 years newer and probably worth about $30k more if I had to actually pay for it myself!

I have called earlier than that. If you got a renewal notice, can call and play the "too expensive, probably going to let it go" song and dance. I did mine the last time a week or 2 prior.

    @oldfarmer,
My Fusion is a 2017. Was about to post this picture but my boss called and I went into work.
We have a big project in the works. Client testing starts Monday.
He said he was calling me just to let me know of some things I would need to look at.
I decided heading to office immediately was for the best.
Here is a quick picture. It was still light out when I took it.

Oh I see. That is a nice color and I like the wheels. I misremembered what year you said (thought it was a 16) and when you said it was built in 9/16 I thought it was odd to be building 16s so late.

Now I see your concern about buying too soon. When I was obcessing about buying the Eclipse I tracked incentives monthly trying to hit the sweet spot. Waited so long that salt season closed in and I hardly drove it until spring.

Ford must be shipping them pretty fast. My Ford had a build date 30 days before I bought it. I liked that it wasn't sitting around.

I barely use my SiriusXM these days but I can't remember the last time I got a bill or a reminder. I wonder if they forgot about me? Does that ever happen?

I haven't gotten any kind of notice: it just renews on 11/11.
The original email verifying the trial shows a renewal for 3 months at $65. LOL

    I'll call Monday.

What kind of rate are people getting for a year subscription? Or should I try for another 5-month trial?

I just got $99 I think (or maybe $89) for a year extension on the Jetta. That was good enough for me.

not sure what I am paying on the Sonata, but it is some promo type rate.

My new ride is a '15 Genny V8 with Ultimate Package. See it at the bottom of my posts, its shown there. You have to list yours on your profile page.

Your decision is based entirely on what you want. If you like it you buy it. If not, you get another car for a few years. It's not like you have to get permission, right? :'(

Hey guys, I have to leave for a while right now. Son #1 called and wants some help putting in a new water heater. I'm going to let him do the torch work this time. I'll just stand back and see how much he has learned from the old dog over the years. See ya later.

Don't forget to strap it in. There are asteroids out there we don't know about.
Here in PA there is no requirement for strapping since we don't have earthquakes at least none that I know of. Of course tomorrow you'll hear about an earthquake that hit South Western PA and about 4 million water heaters fell over and caused more property damage than the quake did. I don't think we have to worry about asteroids either but one could hit us overnight. Listen to the news and call me if you hear of one that's getting close. I'll run over to my Sons house and strap it down after I do mine :o

The installation went off without a hitch other than he conned me into making one of the sweat fittings. His excuse was that it was in an "awkward position". I didn't think it was and I told him get used to it cause you're not always going to have the fittings starring you right in the face.

Anyway, all done, no leaks, and lots of HOT water.

Life is good. Just have to keep the quakes and asteroids away.

Hey, nice color but I'm biased because it looks a LOT like my '15 Genny's color. Nice rims too.

Just don't expect too many compliments with that "old man's color" (Mrs. j's words).

Get a good coat or two of wax on it before the first flake hits the ground and it will look just as nice in the Spring.

I'm thinking about replacing my electric hot water heater. It's a 1987 model with a 10-year warranty. But my days of doing the soldering are likely over. I had a retired plumber do a replaement on a frost free water spigot and a couple of other jobs. He said he uses a torch that is hotter than a propane torch and makes it easier to heat and draw the solder without overheating the copper trying to use the cooler propane torch. I think I'll pay him to do the install since some lines may have to be lengthened again for a 40-gallon replacement. I had cut down the original lines on the 80-gallon that was installed with the house (restaurant size) when I replaced it with a 52-gallon model.

I think that's Mapp gas; my plumbing bud is coming in December and I need to extend an outdoor bib that has some junk hanging off of it that makes it hard to winterize (backflow, etc.). He'll probably try to get me to do it but I'll beg off (no white bread here to stop up the leaks, lol). But it's a small enough pipe that the blue bottle stuff will probably work fine.

Your plumber is probably using Acetylene and you can get Acetylene at the box stores in the same size tanks as the propane but it costs a good bit more. I was going to buy an Acetylene tank a while back but I still have about 6 or 7 propane tanks that I got on sale a few years ago so I didn't buy one. Acetylene burns much hotter than propane but so far I have not had a problem with propane even doing 3/4 inch copper tubing like today with Son #1's water heater.

Oakland is the area where Pitt and CMU are located. If there was a quake of any size in Oakland, the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Leaning building would have toppled for sure. I don't know of any real earthquake safe structures around here.

I guess I'll just take my chances. :(
