I lived 6 blocks away from the Indian Wells Tennis Center.  It's a beautiful stadium built exclusively for tennis.  The last match I saw there was Andre Agassi vs Pete Sampras in 1995.  The stadium is on Fred Waring Drive just west of Washington Street.  I really miss those matches.

6 BLOCKS! One year I was looking at going....tickets for finals were about $450 to $500. We would have to stay for at least 2 nights and hotels were $500 a night. If I had known we could have just stayed at your place and you could have delivered us to the door. Oh yeh, now you live near Miami. How about the Miami Open, are you close to that one?

I believe that is held on Key Biscayne, if I am not mistaken.  That's about 45 miles or so from where I live now.  Key Biscayne is one place I would love to live if I could afford the prices of condos over there.  The Key is about 8 miles east of Miami Beach. Truly a beautiful area of Miami-Dade

I only had it about 18 months. I loved it. No problems other than the exhaust. I think, especially on the used market, it is an incredible sports sedan bargain. Not sure how it will fare in long-term reliability, so I'd probably suggest an owner not have it past warranty. If somebody were shopping 550i, e550, XF, I'd suggest they compare to a Vsport.

At this juncture, I'd take that Alpha over the CTS, and not even blink.

Not sure you remember, but the exhaust is the one thing I had go wrong with my Vsport. The weld on the bracket closest to the cats broke, causing an exhaust leak. I think mine was in the shop for something like 10 days for that.

I do remember that IMID. Not sure exactly all that they had to do. Service writer said they replaced the exhaust system. Won't know all the bits and pieces until I see the service receipt.

None of this even remotely adds up.

I think it adds up perfectly. They won't give out a loaner because their good customer has gone to arbitration....that means war. They are digging themselves into the trenches and they know this might stop some complainers from going to arbitration and just settle, but, not GG, whom they don't know has a new car anyway...doesn't need their loaner.

Of course they will finish working on the car and throw it together like they did last time...just so they can show the arbitrator the car is all fixed and ready to go....because it has a new exhaust system! Probably a new harness or one attached with duct tape.

Driver....I keep thinking back several weeks ago when I met with the Zone Manager. She said my Cadillac experience was totally unacceptable. If anything, it's become worse since that time.

You can pack a breakfast sack if you like - but I can assure you, no matter how bad those restaurants are, my cooking you breakfast is twice as bad - trust me on this!

I think the quote is "It takes as much energy to be happy and positive as it does to be miserable and negative".

But, I think with a car it is harder to get those 1000s of parts exactly right.
A good track record and top engineering are necessary, Alpha has one of the two, not sure about the other 4 Chrysler models at the bottom of the list.

Saw a Chevy Volt today. I liked the styling of the original models more, like this 2014. I read some reviews and people love them, though most complained about the large depreciation.


The one I saw today wasn't as nice looking to me. It was a 4 door hatchback and looks pretty generic, and it has that big high rear end.

in the GG saga, it is also entirely possible that the dealer service department is also not communicating with Caddy corporate on this, so they have no idea what is going on. From all these reports, probably just as likely as them being told to rush it together to try and fake something for the arbitration hearing.

IMID....thought of you a week or so ago. Someone had sent me a Malibu review video. I know you like them. The review was quite favorable.

Most neutral reviewers of the '14 Malibu found it to be more than satisfactory with the 2.5 NA engine. Didn't need the 2.0T, but they loved the turbo for the power. Car was quiet and handled well. Often they said it equaled the Accord, but the reviewer would pick the Accord. Of course the fake news reviewers had found the blocked view by the C-pillar in the rear seat made it seem more closed in than the cars with fake little rear windows to open up the view. They mentioned that in every review even though the Malibu had more rear seat legroom than the contemporaneous Optima/Sonata duo. LOL

I saw a reviewer of the '17 mention that it had road noise. Doubt that's true. I haven't driven a '16 or '17 cause I'm not in the market.

I75 is not safe again. The snowbirds from FL are returning to Ohio, Michigan, and Ontario. I was run out of the right hand lane of NB I75 with 5 lanes by a snow bird with thick glasses in a heavy Ford pickup pulling a box trailer larger than normal size--it was big enough to hold a compact car. He just changed lanes from the second from right, even though I was in the right hand lane. I had to slam on brakes. I wasn't ready to replace the Cobalt by letting him smash the trailer into the right front.

Later another car, Michigan, SUV in middle of 3 lanes that go through with 2 more lanes that exit on right and she's going 55. Truck traffic was heavy everywhere on I75 today for our trip to GG country and the local IKEA store and a couple of garden centers for pansy plants around Cincy.

The Accord's visibility all around is unusually good so I'm not surprised reviewers would remark on it.

Back in '14-'15 some of the reviewers just liked the driveability of the Accord even though they felt the Malibu was good in road feel at least in the upper models.

I still don't believe that a Malibu (heck, anything short of a Passat) actually has more legroom than a Sonota. I never trust published numbers since you have to account for the front seat placement, but even behind my 6' self, there is limo like room. If a Bu has noticeably more room than that, toss in a jump seat and make it into a checker cab.

Does look better in white than the red one I saw. I still like the original more. I am slow to change though, and I like my 2015 E400 styling more than I like the 2017. I also prefer our last edition of the C250 more than the newer models. Guess I am just an old fuddy duddy who doesn't like change.

There is no contest between sitting behind myself in my daughter's '16 Optima (or the former '14 Optima for that matter) and sitting behind myself in the '14 Malibu we have as a pool car at work. I cannot fit in the Malibu. The '11 Malibu that car replaced had more usable back seat room too. I haven't sat in a new Malibu but expect it to be much better.

This reminds me of the Lexus front grill debacle. We made fun of it at first, but then realized it looks different when viewed in pictures at ground level than it does when you are standing. When standing it looks good.

Coincidentally, I saw another Volt this afternoon from more of a side angle and it did look nicer...although I still think the original was more unique.....not as generic. The last one I saw was black, and it looked sharp. The first one I was directly behind it and after the light still behind and to the side, but what I was seeing mostly was the high trunkline from our low sitting position in the C250.

Anyway, I am not going to judge looks until I see a car from a few different angles.

Sometimes you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Trust me, I get it regarding the stats. You would think the exact opposite but I'm talking real world actually sitting in both cars. I'm no small guy at 6'0" and 225 lbs, so in my case the seat is almost all the way back.

No offense intended toward the Malibu. Not too many years ago, all of my cars were GM so I have no biases. The 2000 Malibu I had as a company car was one of my favorites. I'm just about positive the measurements on that car would be less than more modern Malibus but even that one fit me better in the back seat.

the 2014 Sonata was a different car. The 2015 is quite a bit roomier in the back seat.

I lived 6 blocks away from the Indian Wells Tennis Center.  It's a beautiful stadium built exclusively for tennis.  The last match I saw there was Andre Agassi vs Pete Sampras in 1995.  The stadium is on Fred Waring Drive just west of Washington Street.  I really miss those matches.

6 BLOCKS! One year I was looking at going....tickets for finals were about $450 to $500. We would have to stay for at least 2 nights and hotels were $500 a night. If I had known we could have just stayed at your place and you could have delivered us to the door. Oh yeh, now you live near Miami. How about the Miami Open, are you close to that one?

I believe that is held on Key Biscayne, if I am not mistaken.  That's about 45 miles or so from where I live now.  Key Biscayne is one place I would love to live if I could afford the prices of condos over there.  The Key is about 8 miles east of Miami Beach. Truly a beautiful area of Miami-Dade

We have friends coming on Monday, staying until Saturday. That is one problem with having a place in Florida, people like to stay over.

I serve IHOP or Denny's for breakfast - I'll pick up the tab!!! But lunch and dinner - you're on your own - so long as you take me with you!!!  

If you ever tried to push IHOP or Denny's down my throat if I stayed with you, our friendship is OVER. :@

You can pack a breakfast sack if you like - but I can assure you, no matter how bad those restaurants are, my cooking you breakfast is twice as bad - trust me on this!

When we've visited my Delray Beach SIL over the years we've gone to a few kosher delis for breakfast and their lox omelets are very good, not cheap (around 14 bucks), but really tastety. How 'bout throwing in one of those?

I so those Alfa's advertised on the tennis matches from Indian Wells this week and I really like them....looks like a souped up BMW 335. But, I would consider this as first hand knowledge these cars are trouble. Knowing what I know now I would definitely steer (unintended pun) clear.

Breakfast at Mike's B&B.....just give JMonroe Cornflakes and burnt toast. (the box will have more fibre and nutrition than the flakes)

And a skosh more flavor than IHOP or Denny's.

No offense intended toward the Malibu. Not too many years ago, all of my cars were GM so I have no biases. The 2000 Malibu I had as a company car was one of my favorites. I'm just about positive the measurements on that car would be less than more modern Malibus but even that one fit me better in the back seat.

I do get that the rear seat feels more closed in. It's like sitting in the back of some of the Lincoln Continentals with the little opera windows and large C-pillars. The positioning of the headroom and the positioning of the legroom angles to each other also seem to have an effect. The MSM of the auto mags really hooked onto the '13 seat legroom as the problem to punish GM for using a platform that shortens the front and rear seating area from the '12 model which was abundant. But I like shorter cars. It fits better in the garage than the 12 I had as a loaner fit.

I researched the measurment algorithm used for legroom, etc.. There is something about the dimensions of an adult male of certain percentile height. Using that for the front seat positioning then the rear legroom is measured.

I personally use the IMID method like you did of sitting in the front and adjusting the seat for comfortable driving then sitting in the rear behind it.

The reality is I probably cannot buy another Malibu because I can't get the standard engine with all the safety features. The safety features require an LT2 and the 2.0 T is required. So I'll be shopping other cars unless GM changes their option logic.

The new Honda Accord looks like an angry Camry--extrapolating from the current Civic's looks. The local toyota store is hateful. So shopping will be fun. Subaru is across town. BMW/VW is nearby but VW/Audi has an honesty problem.

I must be in a good area. I have good dealers around (sometimes more than 1) for just about every brand. Only one that has something on my list that could be an issue is Kia. 2 stores near me that I have been to. One I won't ever step foot in again (a true "we finance anyone" snake pit). The other one, might be OK if you are careful. I guess I would have to expand the search a bit to find a good one.
