We were first predicted to have 12-18". Then last night, it changed to 8" overnight and another 2 during today. Woke up to find maybe 4" out there and freezing rain currently falling. What a mess, but obviously nowhere near predictions for us.

Bwia, I think the real epiphany is when you reach a certain age you decide you would rather spend your remaining years doing what you want to do.

I thought, when the final day comes do I want to say I worked right up until the end, or did I have some time to do things I wanted to do. If your income allows it why would you not choose to do what you want to do?

Bradd....great SFTSFL. It sounds like the Q40 is the proverbial cream puff. Used cars are nearly impossible to do a "one price" offer on. Data on used isn't as cut and dry as figures on a new car, which are mostly static.

QB, we got less. Hard to tell how much snow fell, but been just raining for a bit here (not even freezing) so a lot of slop really. But better than having to shovel 8-10 inches of heavy stuff!

NYC, I do the same thing every night. Make my internet rounds checking out my preferred sellers, looking at what is out there in the market. And torturing myself when I find the occasional great deal that I can't do anything about now!

Farmer, that is a total no brainer. heck, you could find a few hour a week part time job (doing transfers for a car dealer?) and make up for it.

Yeah, that's what I finally figured out.

Enjoy the snow. Yet another day of pouring rain out here, but it is a warmer rain now anyway.

Speaking of crashes, when I was a kid, I was riding in my grandma's mint low miles 85 Olds (then maybe a 10-11 year old car), driven by my uncle, in Seattle. A W124 E-class runs a stop sign and t-bones us just behind the front passenger side wheel. The Olds was destroyed, wheel bent, fender pushed far in, door wouldn't open properly, etc. The MB had a bent grille and broken light, and was able to drive away. The exact location of a hit can do a lot.

When I was younger, a relative liked to buy big old land yachts for cheap, drive them til something happened, and buy another. A lot of those old cars aren't worth much even now, and there was a plentiful supply in the early 90s. At the time, she had a Lincoln Mk IV - it got rear ended by a Geo Prizm. You can imagine the result. The Lincoln lived on for a while after.

Oh no. The nor'easter veered inland overnight. So that now puts us on the "blizzard warning" track with 18"-24"of snow forecast. Yesterday at this time we were forecast for 6"-12".
I think that @oldfarmer50 may be in a similar situation. There have been some wild swings of temp and precipitation this year in the North Country!

As usual the weather forecasters hysteria is turning into a dud. The snow flurries started about an hour but it is light and thankfully there is no wind. Nonetheless, I am enjoying a snow day off.

Do tell. I'm hopefully pulling the plug in June. Good luck. What was you epiphany? Mine was that I was working for $3000 more than if I was retired.

BTW, thanks for backing up all that snow into my yard. We're looking a 1-2 feet. Looks like you might get rain.

Thanks guys for your warm retirement wishes. But, seriously though, I decided to retire when my wife started reminiscing about our struggles as a hardworking young couple in the early 1970s while we were simultaneously trying to pay the rent, raise a family, while going to college fulltime. Sometimes I worked two fulltime jobs to make ends meet while carrying a full course load. Vacations, fancy clothes or a car were out of the question--but we survived.

Looking back, I realized that I have been working for 45+ years straight. I have never been unemployed or out of the work force other than one week for a short hospital stay. Now that I have given my employer ample notice, I will take my time to psychologically adjust to the realities of retirement.

The weather mafia is just part of the media: their goal is to make money and make themselves more in control of our lives. They control our lives. They predict the White Death to come and everyone panics.

We were predicted to possibly get 1-3" on the edge of the forming storm back here. Got maybe half an inch. When it was starting, I went to Kroger to get my wife's prescription and deli tuna salad. Place was packed with folks picking up bread, milk, and bottled water from being scared all day by the media folks. Sheeeesh. On a Monday night it's usually low traffic at our store.

Long way from the days where in eastern Indiana I drove with snow tires in 4-8 inches of snow and made it up a long gradual hill next to a woods go get to our farm. The woods made the snow drop onto the road more heavily because the woods slows the air speed like snow fences do.

I would much rather have 10 inches of snow than freezing rain. We had a sloping driveway, and you could be stuck for days if it was really thick. That stuff takes forever to melt.

There are lots of variable in accidents like that. My wife was stopped at a red light in her 2003 C230 estate wagon when a young guy in a Corolla rammed right into her. $3700 damage to the Mercedes rear bumper area, but his little Toyota was destroyed from the front bumper to the windshield.

Once again, my wife wasn't hurt, the car crumpled just like it was designed to do.

I was thinking, too bad the guy who hit my E400 hit a car that will cost the insurance company $80000 to replace. But, then again, it is cheaper than paying for broken necks and limbs.

That depends on how much insurance he has for property damage. If he's on a $50K limit, then he owes the other $30K.

I think you have a very good idea........the one about going back to shoveling snow.

    What does this mean?

TMU for mileage but I think the motor and transmission have been rebuilt.

And why does a car with 39000 miles on it need:

I have installed many new parts.all new braking system: Master cylinder; vacuum booster; both front and rear rubber brake hoses; wheel cylinders front and rear; brake drums rear; brake shoes front and rear; emergency brake cables: New carburetor; 4 gas shocks; rear coil springs; sway bar bushings; new bucket seats and rear seat upholstery, carpet, convertible top boot, a complete base coat/ clear coat paint job. This paint job is now over 20 years old and still looks good. There was some filler work done and it shows in a couple of places. Mostly low behind the doors and over the rear wheel opening. The frame also has been repaired. I think the motor and transmission have been rebuilt.

    Except:

Auto insurance may be compulsory, but the minimum coverage varies across Canada. In Ontario, you need only $200,000 in third-party liability coverage. If you have an accident in a province with a higher minimum – say $500,000 – and you're insured for only $200,000, your insurance company will honour the higher amount.

Most people these days have at least $1million liability insurance. In Florida they don't sell over $300k any more.

"Liability" insurance is often broken down into Property damage and Bodily Injury Damage; also in the USA the minimum requirements vary from state to state. So you could have lots of liability coverage but no property coverage, or....both.

I carry $250,000-$500,000 in liability insurance with $100,000 in property damage and $100,000-$300,000 in uninsured motorists coverage on the car and $300,000 liability on my Condo Homeowner's Policy. I had thought about a personal liability policy for $1 million, but here in Florida, there are certain "rights" that are protected under the law:

First, your home/dwelling cannot be confiscated as part of a legal settlement - your home is yours, no matter what.

Second, your car cannot be confiscated either.

Everything else is up for "grabs" here in the State of Florida.

You might remember that when OJ Simpson was sued in Civil Court by the parents of Nicole Brown Simpson and the parents of her boyfriend, Ron Goldman, and were than awarded millions of dollars in a wrongful death decision, where did OJ Simpson move? You got it - Florida! That's because his house and car could not be confiscated to pay off part of the damages won by the two families.

See, there are some nice things about Florida other than the weather - not many - but some. B)

Can they take money that is in your retirement fund?

We are grandfathered in with $1million liability in Florida, but, we won't be able to get that again. I wouldn't feel good having less, but, one day I may have to.

Down here there ar lots of people driving around without insurance or a license. I read about them all the time. They are usually in a big accident or do a hit and run, and they aren't supposed to be driving at all....and usually it is about their 8th conviction.

That brings up a question. The odometer on the Lincoln stopped working back in October. I'm going to sell it in a few months but it's going to be TMU which is a big negative.

I've got repair records going back 4 years to when I bought it showing a pretty consistant 900 miles per month. Also have a visit to the shop for attempted repair of the odo with milage and date.

I'm only going to ask $1000 for it which considering it's otherwise pretty decent condition is pretty cheap.

Do you think I'm going to have a problem with buyers?

Normally I wouldn't touch a TMU car but that's just me.

You should tell your local Ford dealer about these Mustangs...he is selling 2016s for less than the dealers 2015.

Interesting, but how did this guy get his hands on 11 Mustangs? OTOH, how do you advertise them on a website. I wouldn't send him any down payment or money until I saw the ownership papers. But, I try to minimize risk......might pay more but I will end up with an actual car.

$1,000? For a car that runs? I'd bet you'll get a flock of people willing to buy it (hell, I might buy it).

Regarding the Mustangs....this sort of smells. Flood cars? Rebuilt titles? Can't figure why someone would buy 11 new Mustangs only to sell them on the cheap.
