interesting. I read through the website on it, and they did a better job with model optioning. The sport 2.0T actually has exactly the stuff I would want. Looks like an Elantra sport, with a lot more goodies on it. MoonRoof included. Supposed to be out in the summer. Will be interesting come year end, how aggressive they would be on a lease for a returnee (that is worth a good $900 between waiving the turn in fee, and getting the current lease credit).
If I am going to get a new lease anyway, might as get one with some power and a nice set of goodies.
Looks pretty nice to me but who do they think they are, anyhow. I guess it's not your fathers Sonata anymore.
They still have some work to do with their sound system. Gotta get that Infiniti system out of there and put in a Sonata System. They aren't going to be a first rate car company if they use another car companies radio.
FWIW, just for grins I drove the 2012 Sonata 2.0 turbo when we were getting ready to replace Mrs. j's blown up '05 XG 350. That is a damn nice engine. Should satisfy a lot of people.

GG, very nice comparative review. Two of the cars seem to be genuine luxury sedans except for the G50 that souds more likely than not a glorified Maxima.
By the way, how do they compare in terms noise, vibration and harshnest? For an older guy like me NVH is an important purchase decision. Quiet interior and compliant handling are virtues I value.
GG, Very interesting comparisons.....so glad you went with the TLX, it seems to have the things you really want and appreciate. The CTS really seems overpriced when you compare it to the other two cars, and as you pointed out, it sounds like it really needs a 6 cyl engine to do it justice. Which of the 3 would be the best pick for bwia, it seems the TLX leads for performance and technicals, what about basic comfort and quiet?
Like bwia said, I get the impression the Infinity is a dressed up Maxima, similar to how Ford can make Lincoln's out of lesser models - nothing wrong in that because you do get a premium type car for a lower price - but it isn't the same as having a car designed all fresh, to be what it is supposed to be.
Well, the 2004 Avalon is gone. A very nice woman we know wanted it badly and after two years I finally sold it to her for nearly what I had in it. She's very happy and that's important.
So, in the hunt for another "third" car. It seems we always have had one and although it's unnecessary I just feel better knowing we have a backup. Since we have a new CRV and a new Civic in the garage, it'll sit outside.
So, I'm thinking something practical that I can haul stuff in and use on those rare days when we get snow.
An SUV! Thinking a Ford Explorer maybe or perhaps a Jeep Grand Cherokee. An old one in the 5000.00 range.
Finally got home after a terrible trip from the Jacksonville area. Southbound I-95 was shut down at Titusville due to a rollover crash of a truck, SUV and a car. I sat on I-95 for almost 2-hours until I was able exit at the Titusville exit and circumnavigate around the closed area where the accident occurred. When I got back onto I-95 southbound, the heaviest rains I have ever driven through started and lasted on and off for 2-straight hours. It was horrible and scary. I couldn't see more than 50 feet in front of my car.
So after over 6-1/2 hours of driving down I-95 on a trip that is usually 4-1/2 hours long, I am exhausted.
During that tie-up on I-95, I had to use the washroom so badly I could almost taste it. That's what I call a "real plumbing back-up"! Ugh!!!
Glad you're home safely. Could you have found a place to pull over and rest while it was raining?
Probably a choice of over 20 casinos on that stretch of road. Miccosukee Resort & Gaming has a steak and lobster dinner for $9.99, includes salad and chocolate cake!
Not on the east coast! There's nothing in Titusville except for something they call "historic Titusville" - whatever that means!
"Historic" usually means "lots of old buildings no one has torn down yet". Some historic cities can be very interesting to see, especially St Augustine which has many of the first buildings still standing. Historic downtown Plant City is about an hour away from us in Florida.....I like seeing some of the early American homes and buildings.

Any American SUV, I think, would work well for your needs. Simple to work on, low cost to maintain. Roomy for runs to Home Depot or your favorite antiques store. Probably won't get more than a few thousand miles per year.
Just got my 3rd J.D. powers survey in about 6 weeks. The first one asked me about my 2015 E400. I wrote and explained I no longer owned it. Then they sent a new survey for the 2017 E400. I only had it for about a month so anything I said would be almost useless. I started it but stopped really quickly when I saw my answers would be meaningless.
Now, they sent another survey that will take 20 to 40 minutes, I have had the car for 2 1/5 months, less than 2000 miles on it....what can I possibly say?
@graphicguy, thanks for a very nice comparison/review of the three vehicles. Agree with @driver100, that the CTS is definitely over-priced compared to the other two. Also, I too am happy for you getting the car that satisfies you the most.

I was thinking along those same lines. I've been scouring the CL ads and I gag at the 200,000 mile offerings..." Should be good for another 150,000 miles"...Yeah...right! Also, so many flakes and obvious curbstoners out there. " Oh, I'm selling it for a friend" I'll ask if they have the title in hand and they will stutter and stammer.
But, time is on my side and I will find something at some point. I looked and in two years, I drove the Avalon 6000 miles so the 150,000 mile cars with a good story and history don't scare me too much.

Interestingly, the Q50 was loudest. Not engine noise, per se (although when pushed, it does have a growl to it), but seems to have had less sound deadening. Wind noise and road noise was more noticeable in the Q50 than in either the CTS or the TLX. This was true especially on the highway.
Also, the CTS had some turbo whine come through the cabin. Again, not objectionable but a litte surprising given the purpose of the car. Wind and road noise was subdued, though.
TLX has engine/mechanical sounds come through. That was by design. During a highway run last night, the TLX was very quiet while cruising, however.
The rest .... vibration and harshness....CTS's 2.0T was harshest and vibrated at idle. But, it is a 4 cyl (albeit a powerful one). The Q50 and the TLX were much smoother with little (if any) vibration and certainly no harshness.

I don't do surveys for the very reason you mentioned. Your answers can almost always be turned into a positive by the compilers of the survey.

Seems the Maxima is a gussied up Altima. Q50 seems to be a stand alone model....though I wonder about some components....though I can't find any details.
This final paragraph in a Cargarus review of the Q50 seems to confirm GGs thoughts: The Q50’s steady improvement has made it an ever-more-tempting offering, but the car still faces some serious competition, from established German players like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class to other models like the Cadillac ATS and Acura TLX. Though a worthwhile choice, it's still not a standout.

J....surveys are a pet peeve of mine. Forget for a moment the "scam" ones (Hi...my name's Darcy and I noticed you stayed at one of our resorts and would like to get your opinion). No, I did not stay at one of your resorts. And no, I'm not interested in the "survey that turns into a sales pitch" scam.
Everyone wants me to take time out of my day to let them know how they did....from the people at Office Depot, to the people who sold me the new car....and everyone in between.
Sure, be more than happy to give you my opinion. It ain't free. And, for a one hour minimum charge at $75/hour, I'll give it to you so you can use my answers in your analytics. But you don't get it for free.
The Q50 is the furthest thing from a Glorified Maxima. The Q50 is a RWD Platform while the Maxima is a FWD Platform.
The only Infinitis that are platform twins with a Nissan are the QX60 SUV which shares its underpinnings and mechanicals with the Pathfinder and the QX80 which shares a lot of parts with the Armada. The Infiniti QX30 shares a platform and mechanicals with the Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Actually the Seattle weather is quite kind on cars. It rarely snows and they don't salt the streets except for the steepest hills in Seattle. The desert cars then to be faded out with cracked dashboards, rubber etc. Like I said I'm not in a hurry and the hunt is often more fun than the find. I pay as much attention to the owner and how they come across as I do the car itself. Like I said, a LOT of CL flakes out there! Both buyers and sellers alike.

These guys buy the cars at auction that the other quality stores won't bid on. They also buy the rejects that the big stores don't want. Not to say they are all bad cars but there is usually a good reason they are on these lots.

Hey now, you never mentioned Chevy. If you want a 2004 Chevy Van I know someone who got taken...er...I mean has a mint example of one who would be willing to pawn it off on you.

Big time scam and I can't understand their motive or what they are trying to accomplish? Do they try to get people to send them money?
The cars are always perfect in appearance and seem to be staged. This one is beyond dump since we have ZERO palm trees in Western Washington! I always flag ads like this!

Since you are a former car professional how about sharing your techniques for judging a low cost used car. Do you bring your paint meter, buy a CarFax or just stare into the seller's eyes for hidden clues?
I like to assess the seller as well as the car but when money is involved you can't even trust your own grandma. I wish I had better mechanical assessment skills so I wouldn't have to trust my instincts.

It's funny that you mentioned that because just last night as we were returning to the Genny, after dinner at a local restaurant, a guy said, "is that a Bentley" ? Seattle might be the best market in the country for used car condition. No sun damage, no rust. However, sellers seem to know it, and everything seems more expensive here. Just like housing.

You mean the winged faux Bentley badge? At least you didn't get the KDM hood ornament on the Equus.
I remember ages ago when I was a student and the fintail was my primary car, a guy came up to me and said "are you the guy with that old blue Bentley?" . I guess if that can do it, so can a Genny

Big time scam and I can't understand their motive or what they are trying to accomplish? Do they try to get people to send them money?
The cars are always perfect in appearance and seem to be staged. This one is beyond dump since we have ZERO palm trees in Western Washington! I always flag ads like this!
And....I'll pass on the Chevy Van. You'll get no Finder's Fee!<</p>
Maybe I can help.
What I have noticed is that once you click on the "quote" button and you change your mind about posting a comment, even though you delete what is in the "response box" it doesn't disappear like you have mentioned but once you decide to reply to another post, after deleting what keeps appearing in the box, the old stuff disappears and only the new stuff shows up.
At least that's the way it works for me.
Then again, maybe it's your hooptie subscription to this site.

Oldfarmer, I was thinking about how we were all duped by the nice little old lady who sold you the Chevy Van. What little old lady is going to actually go out....and buy, a Chevy van. They are uncomfortable and hard enough to drive for even the hardiest of men. They are like driving a sardine can on wheels, with minimal suspension system, and minimal feel of the road. She was probably selling it for a family member who would never be able to sell someone anything. Maybe the van was used to run drugs in the Catskills!
Note: the quotations and comments system has run amuck around here......I am in the quote part and oldfarmers quote has disappeared.

By the way, how do they compare in terms noise, vibration and harshnest? For an older guy like me NVH is an important purchase decision. Quiet interior and compliant handling are virtues I value.

Any thoughts?
"Historic" usually means "lots of old buildings no one has torn down yet". Some historic cities can be very interesting to see, especially St Augustine which has many of the first buildings still standing. Historic downtown Plant City is about an hour away from us in Florida.....I like seeing some of the early American homes and buildings.
Plant City looks pretty much the same today:

Now, they sent another survey that will take 20 to 40 minutes, I have had the car for 2 1/5 months, less than 2000 miles on it....what can I possibly say?
Forget it!

But, time is on my side and I will find something at some point. I looked and in two years, I drove the Avalon 6000 miles so the 150,000 mile cars with a good story and history don't scare me too much.
Some things never change.

Like the old saying..."there are lies, damn lies and statistics".
I put more faith in getting info from people I know and even then I have to hear between the lines.
After being confused with tons of info, it still comes down to "buyer beware".

This final paragraph in a Cargarus review of the Q50 seems to confirm GGs thoughts:
The Q50’s steady improvement has made it an ever-more-tempting offering, but the car still faces some serious competition, from established German players like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class to other models like the Cadillac ATS and Acura TLX. Though a worthwhile choice, it's still not a standout.

These guys buy the cars at auction that the other quality stores won't bid on. They also buy the rejects that the big stores don't want. Not to say they are all bad cars but there is usually a good reason they are on these lots.

Found a 2004 Chevy Venture Mini Van that a woman is selling for her deceased father. It's been in her mom's garage for three years and rarely driven. 40,000 miles and in the photos it looks like new. Going to see it tomorrow. Asking 3200.00.
