I would imagine it is an electroluminescent screen behind the lights... probably can change it... not sure about it, but I believe it is LED type which would bring about the question, how good are you at soldering?

    =o)

are you sure that they haven't fogotten to plug something back in, or something along those lines? The best bet would be to take it back. They will have to scan the SRS ECU for the trouble code, and find out what the trouble code is. If it is minor, usually turning the ignition off and on again should fix it.

On my 03, I installed my own mirror without problem. I checked their work and everything seems hooked up from what I can tell. I just hate going back to that service department. Remember, this is the group that replaced (and screwed up) a good transmission (and car).......
  • ken972ken972 Member Posts: 162
Ive heard from my honda dealer, handaaccessories and college hills honda that the 03 day/night mirror for the 03 shouldnt go in the 04. I havent heard why yet. The respective parts departments had a message from honda regarding it. Id really like to have one in my 04.
  • jebinc1jebinc1 Member Posts: 198
I physically had the mirror in my 03 moved to my new 04. It works just fine.
  • ken972ken972 Member Posts: 162
Thanks..Ill have to ask around more about it. Seems weird why they say its only for the 03.

    I'm new here.
Have you installed your front speakers?
I also want to upgrade my front speakers on my '03 accord cpe but I've been hearing that not any 6-1/2" speaker would fit. Is this right?

I checked Crutchfield and they only have one 6-1/2" speaker they say fits .. other 6-1/2"s won't.

Also, why the Kappa 692.5? I too am looking for crisper treble and better clarity only. I got an 8" sub in the back.

Anyone else that can help me out would be appreciated. Thanks!
  • jebinc1jebinc1 Member Posts: 198
They must say "03 only" so people don't think they work on 6 gen models. Soon, it should say "03 and 04 only"
  • regulatexregulatex Member Posts: 15
As for your questions, only the Kenwood KFC-1668S at this point I know would fit to your front-door. Other speakers may work, but you would have to do ALOT of modifying and probably have to trim the speaker grills. The Kenwood give out 35 rms power, so if you really want some deafdefying sound that would not be the choice for you. Personally, I just installed the Kenwood to my Profile CL640-channel amp (75 rms per channel)and they are LOUD and sounded really GOOD! The Infinity Kappa 692.5i (110 rms power)sounded GREAT especially the tweeter sound! If you hook the Kappa to an amp (a good power amp), you would not be dissapointed. Without an amp, you probalby would not enjoy the fullest capability of the speakers. They are great for those who like crispy sound. As a matter of opinion, if you want clearness, go with infinity kappa. I have heard Polk Audio give good sound too. Good luck, let me know how it sound once your system is hooked up.
  • ipribadiipribadi Member Posts: 2
    Thanks for the advice.

Do you think replacing the front OEM speakers with the Kenwoods is worth it? I'm just looking for easy listening to crisp and clear sound.

Did you have any problems installing them? Any tip would help. Thanks!

The 03 Mirror works in the 04 but it causes the SRS Indicator to come on. So the result is that the mirror setup CINFLICTS with the airbag SRS system. No new mirror has been produced by Honda. I had mine taken out of the 04. The light is now off.
  • regulatexregulatex Member Posts: 15
I think it is worth it if u add an amp to it...otherwise u may notice a slight different in volume and quality.

Since you've now had both...(so sorry to hear what you've gone through!) is the auto dimming mirror something you miss?

It's the one "toy" I'm really considering on my '03 EX V6 Sedan (fog lights, too, but those would be out of necessity - too much fog here) because of a lot of interstate driving, and being blinded too often. Does it work quickly, both ways? Does it take getting used to? I know I can turn it off (I think - it can be turned off, right?) if I don't like it, but that's after spending about $270 installed.

    Help, please! Thanks!
  • jebinc1jebinc1 Member Posts: 198
I liked the mirror as it dimmed seemlessly, meaning it just didn't "flip on or off". I also liked the compass even though I have the navi setup. The one thing that I don't miss is that it seems a bit bulky and also seemed to have a bit less visibility. This is because the mirror (glass itself) is a different shape than the stock mirror and also somewhat smaller. I will probably get the 04 version for $180 (www.HandA-accessories.com) when it comes out, and install it myself like I did originally on the 03. You can turn the auto dimming off if you want but I just left it set on. It's activated when you turn your lights on (Green LED).

Fog Lights - Sounds like you might live in Seattle also! I was going to install those (and still might) but it's a large job requiring holes being cut into the front bumper. This is not something I would trust my dealers service department with. Hope this helps. Ask more questions if you would like.

I cannot afford the Navi which has a trip computer included. I wonder if there is an after market trip computer which measures the ongoing mpg, trip mpg, miles left until tank empty, etc. Might anyone who has the Navi. with I-4 auto checked to see where is the best mpg on a flat road without hills. I realize that you want to go at least fast enough so that it is not dropping out of lock-up torque convertor. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for the mirror and fog lights advice. I think I'll hold off on deciding about both. The headlights on this car are so superior to my last (Cirrus) that I don't need the fog lights for night driving at all - just for all the fog. (Vermont - because of the valleys and mountains and lakes, fog is pretty bad, and pretty common.)
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
The factory Accord fog lights are neat and I like the distinctive headlight signature they give the car but they are little more than driving lights. IMO they don't make THAT much of a difference in visibility. But they are nice to have.
  • serendipserendip Member Posts: 60
Thanks for the fog light info. If they aren't adding much to visibility, I don't need them. Thanks!

For those of you who have installed this accessory yourself, did you bother to drill holes into your trunk floor to hold the bottom of the net or did you just use the top of the net hooks which affix to the sidewalls using existing holes? I have the trunk tray as well and I wasn't too keen on drill holes through that also. Thoughts?

    The following is a reprint

#493 of 527 Cargo Net Install by briansbluetoy Oct 07, 2003 (9:52 pm)
I just installed the cargo net ($24 from H&A). I went by the directions and it was a walk in the park (40 minutes and a cocktail on a friday nite).

The top holes were already drilled, just had to remove the carpeting panel, thread the bolt and drill a hole in the carpeting panel.

On the bottom, I only installed the studs directly below the top hooks as I did not want to install or use the rear studs on the floor.

I am very happy with the net. It works perfectly. The other nice perk is that it stops the groceries from rolling around the trunk also (even when not in the net)

IMO the bottom studs are completely optional (for use with the tray).

I work at a Honda dealership. We had the same problem with the mirror last week. I phoned my Honda rep and they told me that they are not sure when one will become available. They also said that the 03 mirror will cause an SRS malfunction. They did not specify what but they are working to fix the problem and get the mirror available for the 04 Accord.

brian, anyway you can't get some pics of what your talking about.

    thanks
  • accordman24accordman24 Member Posts: 3
Your local Honda dealer has to reset the light because it has to be hooked up to their HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) computer.

has anyone found an aftermarket rear exhaust for a 2003 EX V6 coupe??

If so would you let me know I haven't found anything out there.
  • jebinc1jebinc1 Member Posts: 198
I'm not sure I fully understand what you attached the bottom net loops to. The top hooks and bolts fit into existing holes. The bottoms ones that you didn't drill into the floor of the trunk are self tapping studs. So, tell me again, how did you affix the bottom of the net (where and how)?
  • ken972ken972 Member Posts: 162
2 Subjects Im most interested. Seems like its just a wiring deal with the mirror. Ill be one of the first in line when Honda figures out the fix for the 04. Im in the same boat with the cargo net and cargo tray. I didnt understand Brian either. Were the bottom hooks installed in the side of the car below the top hooks? Or not at all? Id love to get the net and tray to work together.
  • briansbluetoybriansbluetoy Member Posts: 50
Sorry for being unclear in my posts above.

The install instructions call for two mounting methods. One is the vertical mounting (attach points on the floor and high on the trunk walls) . The other mounting method is four attach points on the floor. This way one could slide items under the net that is attached to the floor of the trunk. I opted not to install the rear set of studs. Therefore, I have two mounting points just below the trunk hinges (high on the trunk walls) and two attach points on the floor of the trunk (just below the higher mount points. I followed the install instructions for every thing except the rear-floor mount studs.

  • jebinc1jebinc1 Member Posts: 198
Still confused. How can mounting to the floor allow the use of the tray?!? What do you mean "you followed the instructions except for the rear.." Just a guess, but I'm guessing that you don't have the tray also.

Is there anyone else out there that has found a good way to mount the net with a Cargo Tray also??
  • sockpuppet1969sockpuppet1969 Member Posts: 308
I bought an aftermarket net that only has two upper mounting knobs. The net is a hammock type that hangs from the knobs and does not interfere with the tray.

Anyone seen the metal trim in the black leather interior? Can you share any photos or links? Is this even available yet?
  • aggie1995aggie1995 Member Posts: 318
It really isn't metal trim. Just plastic painted a metallic color.

It looks good now when my accord is 6 months old. but who knows how it will hold up over the course of several years.

    try this for a picture

I dont have a cargo tray.

I only installed 2 of the 4 studs that mount on the trunk floor.

IMO the floor mounted studs are optional (tray or not)

I have a 2003 Accord Coupe with the autodimmin mirror. I think it is a very slick, nice looking unit that works very well. Also, the compass works extremely well and is well located. There is an LED on/off indicator for the dimming function.

I like the fog lights too. Unlike some cars I have had (Lexus ES300, you can actually see the illumination from the fog lights, which actually give you a little wider band of light to each side. And I think they also add a lot to the appearance of the car.

I noticed that Honda has a sport package for 2004 which includes the mirror, fog lights and rear spoiler (which I don't care for that much). I assume that it is dealer installed, but maybe there is a package price.

By the way, what was changed in the car that would make the 2003 mirror incompatible with the 2004?
  • jebinc1jebinc1 Member Posts: 198
"By the way, what was changed in the car that would make the 2003 mirror incompatible with the 2004?"

    1. SRS system
    2. Seatbelt warning system
    3. Pass air bag auto off at 65lbs
    4. XM Radio provisions

I haven't received my Accord yet, there is a very high demand in the Middle East (expected availability in Feb '04) I'm planning to buy the Fog Lights from H&A, but the problem is I have no where to install the switch. The Ex V6 Sedan models in the Middle East are using all three slots (Traction Control, Light Level, and Moon-roof Switch). I really would like to install those Fog Lights, but I don't know where to put the switch. Any sort of help or suggestion is highly appreciated.

    Just purchased the EX-L 4cycl.

I wanted to install the Chrome tip muffler but the parts guy told me that it was only compatible for the V6.

Is there any truth to that?

Does not make any sense to me.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
On Handa-accessories.com you can purchase a tip for the 4 cylinder Accord. Maybe you should just buy it from them and install it yourself. We installed the chrome tips on our 01 V6 coupe in about 15 minutes.
  • billyperksbillyperks Member Posts: 449
Thanks- I am going to check now.
  • billyperksbillyperks Member Posts: 449
I don't see it listed for the EX-L 4 BANGER,however, it is listed for the Coupe 4 banger.

Do you think it will fit the Sedan?

Now im totally confused about the cargo net install :-(
Though i could figure out a few things.... ;-)

I have the cargo net in front of me right now.
    It looks something like this;

    ------------------------------     <--- longer
       -xxxxxxxxxxx-
       -xxxxxxxxxxx-
       -xxxxxxxxxxx-
       -xxxxxxxxxxx-
      -----------------------     <--- shorter

    1. one could attach just the upper two anchors mounted on the sides and let it be a true 'hammock' net OR
    2. one cud drill the floor to attach the rear floor-hooks and hang the net vertically between the side mounted hook and these OR
    3. one cud drill the rear and front floor-hooks and use the net as a 'tent'

I figure if u have a cargo tray which does not allow the floor-hooks to be installed....u cud just use option 1. This is what brian has been trying to say. Just use the side mounted anchors and then the net is not attached to anything on the lower side. It will sway front and back and lil on the sides.

One ingenuous solution might be to mount 4 side mounting anchors but wud involve drilling something unintendedly. (ooops!)

Who installed the deck lid on their sedan by themselves?
    Was it hard?
    Would you recommend it?

    Thanks!
  • jebinc1jebinc1 Member Posts: 198
I opted for #1 due to Cargo Tray installation
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
chiggaraccord: I had mine installed at the dealer. There is drilling required and I didn't want to drill holes in my car. At least if the dealer messes it up I have some type of recourse.

billyperks: That's strange. Maybe you can buy either the 4 cylinder coupe exhaust tip or the V6 sedan set and try them on your 4 cylinder sedan. Worst that could happen is you have to return them for a refund if they don't fit.
  • ragtopragtop Member Posts: 35
See my post in the Accord board.
The decklid comes with a template to position the holes and if you mess up and have to redrill, not to worry. The deck lid will cover up your mistakes or the dealers mistakes. Took about 1 hr to do the whole thing. The instructions are on-line at Handa-accessories.com for your reading pleasure.

The wife is bugging me to get one for the Accord, I told her they are useless and only takes away from the car.
She mentioned that she saw her exact car with one and how it looked awesome.

I am not budging-I think they are useless, the only accessories I am getting are Mud Guards,Door Guards and Fog Lights.

I am going to install the Mud Guards tonight, the door guards I ordered today. As for the Fog lights, I will order them around the first oil change and have the Dealer install them.
  • hmurphyhmurphy Member Posts: 278
...why not get it, even if it is useless. You only live once. Do you share the car?
  • lelandhendrixlelandhendrix Member Posts: 240
Out of curiousity, has anyone upgraded their wheels and/or tires since their 2003 accord purchase? I'm especially interested in the opinions of the dx/lx owners. If so, what are your thoughts on the effect?
  • billyperksbillyperks Member Posts: 449
No we do not share the car- I have an Acura TLS, but I spend more time in her car because of the Satellite Radio.

Although I am a seventies baby, I think I have been around the block in terms of what is useful for a car.

One perfect example-I had a Mazda Millennia and I bought the Moon Roof Visor for it-what a mistake, those Visors are just outright useless.
I thought it would have reduced wind noise but in reality it increased it.

So- no Spoiler for my honey, hope she does not read this or else its the sofa for me.:)
  • gatrhumpygatrhumpy Member Posts: 126
Does anyone know how these two accessories affect rust? When the holes are drilled into the metal, are they coated with a rust inhibitor to prevent rust? Can moisture get in between the spoiler and the trunk? I like the look of the spoilers, but I don't want to worry about rust 10-15 years down the road.
  • billyperksbillyperks Member Posts: 449
I tried doing this last night but the back ones are giving me HELL.
I can't fit the stubby Phillipps screw driver back there, I think I will have to take the wheel off.
Is there another solution for this install?

Question # 2- I ordered the door guard edges yesterday from H and A, do I need any form of glue or paste to install these.
    Is there any cutting involved?
  • plethysmoplethysmo Member Posts: 42
do I need any form of glue or paste to install these?
    Is there any cutting involved?

I put mine on six months ago without any glue and they are still fine. Bought a rubber hammer at Home Depot and it worked fine to tap them in.

The door edge guard kit from H&A included a special blade to scrape away part of the sealant on the inside of the door the proper distance from the edge for the guard to fit. That was a distressful job to perform on a beautiful new car. Used the touchup paint also ordered from H&A to put on about 3 coats because some areas the sealant cut was not smooth. Looks ok now. The coupe red touch up paint is pinker than the car paint though.
