$300 is way too much though. A lot of dealers automatically etch the windows before it even hits the lot, adding to the MSRP as a dealer-installed feature (kind of like the mud flap/trunk tray trick). I'd negotiate it down as much as possible.
What is the base price + dest fee on this $19,000? Our tax here is 9% so I cannot compare your OTD price with mine. I can only compare the base+dest.
ashah:
Go to http://www.carbuyingtips.com/ and take a look at etching. There is a link to a web site who sells the sets for $20. Don't know if it is good though.
2005 Accord EX 4 cylinder automatic coupe
This is what I got back (so far).
"Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately we do not have any Accord EX(cloth), Cpes left and Honda is not building any more 2005 EX Cpes. However, we do have an EXL, Cpe 4cyl, White in stock and our Out the Door Price for that is $24,496-29(includes New Tag Fee). We do still have the Accord LXV6, and the Accord LXSE, Cpe in stock."
I don't really want leather but keeping open-minded.
What should this car cost?
Thanks,
S
Thanks for the feedback. I purchased my Honda Accord 4 door LX AT with window tint for $19,200 Drive out. This put the price at $17860. I could have gotten 19K drive out without tint but chose to have this done. The car has 7 miles on it and was purchased in DFW (Richardson) TX. Reading the messages, looks like I may have been able to a little better, but I am very happy with my purchase.
Find out the offering price of the car including destination, but before tax and license fees that the dealer must remit to government entities. Note that all dealer charge a "document fee" which is pure profit and shouldn't exceed $50 to be fair. In states where there is no legal limit to these phony fees, they can be several hundred dollars and you should negotiate them away as you settle on a final, pre-tax/license price.
Seems that end-of-year price should be at least $1000 to $1500 BELOW invoice before tax and license is added. A bidding war for a few remaining '05 Accords is silly because if you can wait a few weeks, you'll pay close to invoice for an '06 Accord and you can get the color and interior you want and not be forced into a leftover. You'll also buy an improved car that's new for a full year, not one that's a model year old when you buy it...........Richard
You did very well, esp. to get the tint included! I'd say anyone who gets an LX AT for under $18.5 OTD should be extremely happy with that price. I've seen a few posts who've gotten them for $17.3 OTD... but I'm still plenty happy with $17.8.
Looking at my paperwork more closely, here's the breakout:
$17,392.28 car (27 miles on the odo) and delivery
53.22 Shelby County business tax
349.00 Dealer doc fee
5.50 drive-out tag
0 sales tax (military exempt)
$17,800 cash price
Thanks to everyone who posts on this board... Knowledge is power! Never would have gotten a deal were it not for being able to reference earlier poster's best deals.
Cheers, MG
I'm with you. If I have to.. I will wait until Sep. for the 06' models. I won't pay anything over 22,500OTD for the EX-L Auto without/Navi. I would rather just get one now but they are discounting them enough. They also took away the finance offers and that was important to me as well. It is looking more and more like I will get an 06...
ttt for anyone who finds out about the clearence sale.
I was willing to pay 23K, out-the-door, even a week ago. The closer we get to the '06s, though, the less inclined I am. I'd do the deal at your figure, though. Quotes received over the past few days are more in the $23.4K OTD area. I'd probably consider that for one with NAV, but not the standard EX-L.
Let me know your progress and I'll do the same.
I am still waiting for ppl post their price, i am trying to go a V6 05 4dr auto LX or EX depends on the price different, please reply, thanks
Here is the OTD breakdown i got from a dealer:
HERE IS THE OTD PRICE ON THE ACCORD LX 4DR AUTO.
PRICE $18,298
DMV FEES $235.75
SALES TAX $1,513.30
TOTAL IS $20,047.05
I haven't started to negotiate on the Price but even if I can knock it down to say $17,500, I still would have to pay more than $1,400 in sales tax which would make my OTD more than 19K after including the document fees.
Honda Accord EX V6 with leather and navi. With very little negotiation, they came
back with $26470 (dealer invoice the destination charge). Based upon how
quickly they agreed to this number and based upon things that I've read in this
forum, I think I could probably do better. With that said, what do folks think I
should expect to pay for this model. The sales manager said that he could not
go below deal invoice on a car with navigation system. Does that sound right?
Thanks,
Marty
This is not the bottom price. Dealers in are giving far below than the invoice price..
Note: Dealers are also getting additional $1250 (7/1/2005 - 9/6/2005) for marketing support from honda.
I got a deal $22519 , MSRP $ 27365, Invoice $24673. This is the car price incl destination.
If can't buy $2200 less than the invoice, don't buy it, they are tring to rip you off.
I am new here and need some advice from all you experts here...
I have been shopping for my first Honda Accord and still struggling between the LX and the EX! (Non Leather, 4 cylinder).
The price difference between the two is around USD $2100, and obviously EX gives more like
1) moonroof - which doesn't mean too much to me
2) 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer - i drive long distance, so this can be helpful!
3) Electronic Brake Distribution System (EBD) - what is that? Is that important?
4) Power-Assisted Ventilated Front Disc/Solid Rear Disc Brakes (4-wheel Disc Brake) - what is that? Is that important?
4) Driver's Seat w/Power Height Adjustment - useful? I don't know
5) Driver's Seat Adjustable Lumbar Support - useful? I don't know
6) Ambient Console Lighting - not important to me!
7) 16" Alloy Wheels - not important to me!
Can someone give me some advice and explain to me the significances of some of the above features from EX? Is it worth it to pay for the extra?
Btw, add another $1400 for either LX and EX for a leather, worth it?
Thanks in advance
Nemo
Thanks for the information. I have a couple of additional questions based upon
your reply. I am assuming that the car that you purchased did not have navi
since the invoice on the EX V6 with navi is 26470 (includes destination charge).
Also, would you expect to be able to get a car with navi for $2200 less than
invoice? The dealer was willing to go lower on cars without navi, but not with navi.
Thanks,
Marty
Apologies if the below questions has been already discussed. I have searched this forum for almost an hour, but I couldnt get the information I wanted.(| saw the below questions sometime before, when I wasnt serious buyer, but Iam unable to locate it in this forum - blame it on my poor search criteria)
1. What are the various incentives and kickbacks that are offered to dealer (can you list current incentives)
2. Using the above information how do I arrive at OTD?
I live in bay area..
Since "Thanks in advance" is not a good way, I will thank all by giving my numbers when i purchase my car next week.
I want to explain the salesman about the numbers and then let them know that I can understand their business too. All I am looking for is a price that is fair to me as well as the dealer.
I have been getting various price quotes for the 2005 Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe with navigation in automatic. The lowest price quote I got so far is 24,926 included destination, but excluding taxes and license fees. Gathering from response from other dealers, this is about $1500 below invoice, and a couple of them were not even able to match it. Do you think it's a good price? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thanks.
You didn't mention the fact that the LX have black body side moldings (the piece running along the bottom of the sides of the car between the front and rear wheels) while the EX's match the rest of the car. This can make a big difference if you're considering a light colored car.
So, if you don't mind the appearance differences between the two models and aren't that interested in the sunroof you're probably better off not spending another $1500 for extras you won't get much use out of.
Good luck.
Is this a good OTD quote: $20,500 for '05 Accord EX sedan 4 cyl M/T with cloth interior with trade-in of vehicle with Kelley Blue Book/Edmunds value of $855/$860.
And any idea what the July 18th clearance sale entails?
Thanks Much,
Wheeler3
I have seen some better deals posted here. Also, what would be a fair OTD price (w/6.5% sales tax)?
I have to say though, that the wheel covers on the LX are pretty crummy looking and make the car look cheaper. I think the Alloy wheels make a huge difference in the look of the car.
Anyways, I just found out this weekend that my local dealer is offering after-market leather upgrade on the LX for $499. Now that's what I'm talking about! Assuming the vendor does a good job on the leather, is there any reason not to consider this? Further, I wonder if you can do anything like this on the wheels/rims. I thought Honda was pretty stringent on the options-I'm sure I can just ask. Otherwise, anybody have any suggestions on where to look after my purchase and what type of prices I am looking at on some alloy/aluminum wheels? Nothing "Fast and Furious", just a nicer look than the wheel covers.
Also, I asked the sales guy if he knew anything about a Honda Clearance event beginning on the 18th and he just looked back at me blankly. I don't know if that is gamesmanship or cluelessness. Anybody seen anything?
I am still actually trying to decide between a CRV and an Accord. My current goal is to try and achieve a price of invoice -holdback - incentive, about $17,200+TTL on the Accord LX, and about $18600+TTL on the CRV. It seems like serious deals can be had on the Accords, but tough to go below invoice on the CRVs, and no current incentives on them.
So, if I can't get much wiggle-room on the CRV, then I am going to work hard on a deal for an Accord LX, add leather and perhaps tint. I don't need to do any financing, just a quick "take it or leave it" on the price, and hopefully someone will concede as this month winds down.

"As I suspected, the Honda Clearance is an advertising campaign to close out the 05 models. We already have the incentives which is what we based or price on. There are no new incentives on any Honda models."
Looks like Mr. Opportunity was talking through his hat. I was at least hoping they'd bring back some financing offers. :lemon:
What kind of changes/upgrades does the 2006 accord (4cyl. EX-L) have over the 2005 model----anyone read anything about the new models?
MHB
I agree, it's too bad. The financing offers were influencing my decision (maybe to a lesser extent than yours) as well. Now that they're gone, and there's potentially no further cash savings to be had with the "clearance event", some of the '05 Accord's polish has been removed from my perspective. The jury's still out, though....let's see if the dealers get more aggressive on their own in the next few days.
Check the older threads in this forum, there is a message with a link to a honda page with the pictures of brand new 2006 Accords. I think this should work
http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=362191
The only thing that ever comes out of this clearance sale is lease rates...
Honda has never done any customer rebates...at least since 1984 when I started buying Hondas...they all have been factory to dealer incentives...like what is going on now...$1250 for the accords...so if you were to take the incentive...plus the holdback fee, that is a big chunk of change off invoice already...And at that price your already going to get the most reliable, best resale, and safest cars on the road....So, if you were waiting around for this big sale and have already passed up on an outstanding deal don't be surprised if someone else came behind you and bought that same car you were looking at! And now if you go back and try and get the same deal don't be surprised if it isn't there...inventory is going fast...you better buy now why the time is right...they cannot order anymore 05's...production has stopped...06's will arrive early to mid September....happy hunting!!!
After reading about 50 of these posts, I knew I could get an 05 LX AT for under $18K. I visited a local dealer and within 5 mins. had an out-the-door offer of 17.8K.
For comparison (to see if I could beat that) I sent out 11 e-mails to Honda dealers in Memphis, Little Rock, Nashville, and places in between. I got back 6 offers with numbers attached... ranging from a low of $18.5K all the way up to the "Honda employee price" of $19.8K from a Nashville-area dealer. 3 other replies were "come in and see us..." and 2 didn't bother to reply after 5 days.
Needless to say, I bought from the local dealer I visited in person and accepted my offer of $17.8 OTD
My point is, for about 1 hour of reading posts on this site, you can get a good idea of what a dealer can sell a car for, and still make a minor profit. A dealer in L.A. pays the same for an Accord as a dealer in Miami. If a dealer in L.A. can make money on an $18K deal, than theoretically any dealer could. The question is, how little profit can you get them to sell it to you for.
In some cases, you can do much better than the Internet price if you can make a compelling, reasoned case. Of course, for those who don't like to negotiate, the Internet route is the easiest way to save a little coin. But for those who can spare a couple hours to save hundreds (or thousands) of $$, go for it.
Good luck! -MG
I wasn't really after any discounts, I was just expecting a financing plan for purchases, like they had before. So you are right, I guess I would have been better off if I bought my car back in June.
July Clearance seems to be a bust so far. Like I suggested a couple of weeks ago, It's mainly just an ad campaign to drive people to the dealerships but will not impact prices that much.
Bottom line is this...the prices on the accords have never been better...and if you were waiting to pay 2.9 for 36 months and it didn't happen then now you are back at square one...my credit union offers 2.9 for 36 months either on new or used (03 & 04 models)....figure out the cost of a 2.9% loan and figure out the cost of a 5.5% loan and you will see it is not that big of a deal...the 5.5 you will get on a 60 month loan...the 2.9 is for 36 month loan max...it is all what you qualify for...or it is all about the $$$ you put down in order to keep your payments at a reasonable level.
I think most people on this board who are bent out of shape because of this clearance issue were expecting big $$$ discounts more than what is already here.
Some were waiting on the finance part of it...I understand that...but they are in the minority....it's simple...if you can afford then buy...if not, buy a Kia!!
For me, it's about what the '05 is worth to me, not what I can afford to pay for it. If it doesn't meet my mark, I'll do something else. If I can work a deal, great! In my mind, it's an IF THEN statement. If I can't get the Accord for X, then I'll get something else for X+Y..... but that's just me. I doubt there are many folks on this board who can't afford another grand for a car, it's a matter of whether it's worth it to them or not. Hence the hope for getting a better deal.
I doubt there are many people shopping Kias against the Accord on this board, but I could be wrong. I'd think there are more Camry/Passat/TSX/Maxima comparisons going on.
