Would you mind sharing which dealer in the metro va/dc area sent you the $3k off invoice e-mail? I am in the metro area as well and looking to buy as early as tomorrow.
You can post it here or send me an e-mail at cbod2k@yahoo.com - much appreciated!
Bought EX-L I4 AT from Herson's about 10 days ago. Internet ales guy was real straight forward. Name is Malik.
$21320 (included dest, wheel locks, door wheel trim) + TTL no trade in.
The dealer that is advertising the "$3k below invoice on all Accords" is Sheehy Honda, in Alexandria, VA.
Keep in mind that their processing fee ($329) is higher than the other VA dealers.
Good luck!
On my request, they threw in a leather steering wheel cover which a specialist sews on, no more lacing it up yourself. That will take place Friday. (Even without a cover the steering wheel looks and feels fine.)
It came with a soft plastic trunk "tray" that has a lip all around to catch spills. It also came with the mud catchers on the fenders, and wheel security locks (which I removed.)
We never used the sliding roof on the Civic, and the Accord SE is the same as the EX except no roof, no power on driver's seat, no alarm, and no "ambient console lighting." The seats are very comfortable, and the driver's seat is easy to raise and lower with a handle you pump up or down.
The "carbon fiber-look" trim looks great on our new SE automatic sedan, Alabaster Silver with gray upholstery.
That was my experience. We're very happy with our new Accord. We liked the Civic but this is a big step up in many ways. Reading other postings, I see probably everyone got better prices, but I'm happy and pleased to have gotten a decent trade-in price for our Civic.

BTW, have you bought yet, and if so, what was the sales experience like?

rj5324, thanks for your reply as well. I did speak with Hersons who seemed pretty straightforward with their response.
Hope to wrap this up tomorrow.

Be prepared for the encounter in the F&I office. If you are not given an OTD upfront, determine it beforehand. If you are in Texas, you can use the following formula to get a rough estimate: Use (6.25% Sales Tax * selling price) + (127.05 DMV Fees) + (50.00 Documentation) + (.002543 x Car Price = Texas Inventory Tax). All of those added to car price = Drive-Out. Use this OTD figure and plug it into an online auto loan calculator to determine your monthly payments.

I just had an unpleasant experience with an F&I person. I knew what my payments would be (Economics major/Accounting minor) yet this individual kept coming up with figures that deviated significantly from my calculations.
I understand the person has a job to perform but the manner in which this person conducted themselves was unprofessional and unethical.
What should have been a pleasant experience turned out to be anything but.
We should probably do that since the guys in the shop just hate installing steering wheel covers.
Of course, we sell so few of them it's not a big deal. In 12 years, I think I may have sold three of them?

I'm surprised you go through so few of them. For like $80 you can spend the next 5-8 years holding on to something nice and comfortable vs a hard vinyl plasticy thing. If you did the wheel and the shift knob, it would make everything you have to touch every time you get in the car feel so much better.
We ended up driving the 87 miles north to Honda of Ocala. We got an excellent deal on the EX-L I4 4dr AT w/ Navigation. $24,700 OTD. Including trunk tray, wheel locks and wheel guards. Rick Case Honda, Maroone Honda of Hollywood and Ed Morse Honda also gave very competitive quotes.
It's definitely worth the drive, in my opinion.
I can't remember the last time I had a customer want one.
I shopped around a little bit and have an offer of 20,250 from Dealer 2 on the SE V6 automatic which I will try to get down further when I go in tomorrow. Will post what finally happens.
THANK YOU ALL! This has been helpful and like many others, I *wish* I had done a more thorough job of reading the forum *before* I went in.
Good for you! One does it because "they all do it" - sooner or later they will figure out they are losing business to other dealerships and get with the program or face being a dealership that will not sell as many cars as they could.
If they made up for high fees with lower prices it would be one thing, but to offer a similar or even higher price AND a high fee just spells "walk away".
I had the sales manager at a local Scion dealership (no haggle, fixed price buying) tell me he got lots of business from folks far away because his doc fee was $50 less than the others. They could not dicker on the price, but they could save themselves $50 by doing a little extra driving - and they did.

I wonder just how far some of these people would drive in order to "save" a lousy 50.00?
When it's your $50, it looks like this: $50

Sadly, the lower interest rate was only available with their warranty. I said "no thanks" and stuck with my credit union's higher interest rate and lower monthly payment.
Like you, I wasn't happy with the F&I guy's approach but I was more upset at myself for fogetting to bring a calculator.
Anybody here by chance know if this 0% is the "new" post 7/5/07 incentive, that replaces the $750 or $1200 marketing support dollars?
Guess we'll all know tomorrow when the info comes out...
I'm heading into my local dealer (I'm in Northern VA area) where I bought my I4 EX 5AT from to wrap up the deal tomorrow so I'll be checking into this. Once I wrap my deal up, I'll post the details of my experiences. It has been quite a journey!
The Tampa area dealers not only add on $500 and up dealer fees. They don't really move off of the "invoice" price. Whereas dealers in areas other than Tampa and Orlando will go lower than "invoice" and into the triple net range.
They flat out told us to take the internet quotes elsewhere because they "couldn't" come anywhere near the numbers the other dealers quoted.
Also - On a SE model, how will adding the "Security system" option increase the price? (the honda price for the accessory is $194)
Thanks.
I suppose you're either into volume sales or lower sales at a bigger profit. Two different approaches.
4 dealers outside of Tampa were within $150 of our OTD price. The funny thing was our car was bought at one of those dealers but had to be transfered from a Tampa dealer for our dealer didn't have the right color. The Tampa dealer had turned down our offer to buy at our target price range just the day before.
selling price: 20450 (includes propack, pinstripe, door edge guards & moonroof visor) <- didn't want but nearly every car had this dealer package<br>
sales tax: 1278.13
state insp: 23.75
inventory tax: 46.79
lic & registration: 103.80
doc fee: 55
total drive out: 21957.47
the f&i guy offered 4.90% interest rate, yet my payments would have been higher than my credit union's 6.50%? this was because he had included a warranty with the rate. using an online auto loan calculator, i figured the cost of the warranty would have been $1890.
I can't stress enough that you have to be prepared when you walk through the dealership's doors. Have your worksheets prepared; they may offer to beat your interest rate so to avoid any surprises, determine what your monthly payments would be at your rate and compare to their rate; bring a printout of the cost of accessories; obtain an online quote of a Honda warranty and bring a calculator!
Good luck with your purchase.
I was wondering what was a reasonable price?
I live in Southern California, and after requesting quotes from 5 dealers only received one reply with an actual price: $22,200 not including TTL from Honda of Pasadena.
Figuring that we have 8.25% sales tax here, I figure that I would go and ask for $24,000 OTD. Does this sound reasonable? By this figure, it's about $200 for TTL and $22,000 for the car, and $1,800 for taxes.
Thanks!!
Although I should have been upset, I'm not sure causing a scene would have changed things. He could have argued that he was providing me with a valuable service contract - a very high priced one! - but a service nonetheless.
Thanks to posts on this column, I knew that a Honda backed warranty was available online usually for less than what the dealer was charging.
My satisfaction comes from knowing that I did not fall for his tactics or salespitch and also from telling you all to be informed and attentive to the complete details on the purchase of your car. Your purchase doesn't stop with negotiating the selling price of the car. Remember to also devote time to the F&I portion of your car buying transaction.
Be informed and prepared.
You can take that price of $22,000, go to another dealer and ask if they can match or lower it, or take that number into the dealer and negotiate for about $500-1000 lower, especially if they do not have the exterior color that you want, or the interior seat colors. Personally, I just sat there and stared at the manager and said I didn't like the wood trims inside and the ivory fabric seats, and he kept lowering the prices to $1000 less than the price they quoted for me. I still said no, so he got rude and yelled "may be you should wait for the 2008." I told the salesman, "Gosh you work for a terrible manager, I am done for the day, thanks for all of your help."
I called another dealer 20 miles away from me and they matched the lowest quote, and they had the car in Silver which was my ideal color.
But even at $22,000 for Southern Cali before TTL, I think it is a very good price, considering how popular the Accord is in this area, I used to live in OC/LA so I know.
Another thing is that there were very few LX V6 models left, whereas the EX 4Cyl and EXL and EXL V6 models are still plenty. So keep in mind you shouldn't over-negotiate if you really want the car and they are willing to sell at a price you are comfortable with.
By the way i LOVE my LX V6. Enjoy the car!
I would make a point to take a calculator to the dealership... would love to see the expression on the face of the F&I people .. :P :surprise:
