    Smackldog,

Would you mind sharing which dealer in the metro va/dc area sent you the $3k off invoice e-mail? I am in the metro area as well and looking to buy as early as tomorrow.

You can post it here or send me an e-mail at cbod2k@yahoo.com - much appreciated!

    If it helps...

Bought EX-L I4 AT from Herson's about 10 days ago. Internet ales guy was real straight forward. Name is Malik.

$21320 (included dest, wheel locks, door wheel trim) + TTL no trade in.

Your price is about $1,000 too high! There is plenty of negotiating room there.

I am getting SE v6 with Out door price 21k, but I am want to go for 2.4 EX since with V6 fuel consumption is higher

    cb2k -

The dealer that is advertising the "$3k below invoice on all Accords" is Sheehy Honda, in Alexandria, VA.

Keep in mind that their processing fee ($329) is higher than the other VA dealers.

    Good luck!

Have you bothered checking previous posts? I bought same car SE V6 1 week ago and posted what I paid. I paid 19,650 including wheel locks splash guards, this is before TTL. I believe you could purchase this vechile even lower 19,500 @ least in my area Southern WI.
  • he8833he8833 Member Posts: 52
I also live in Saint Paul.....My search radius was down to Northern IL, you will find here in MN that Honda's are priced 5-8% higher. I went through my credit union up here who has a car buying service and has a good repuation they couldn't touch the prices down in WI/ N IL. The best price he coud get me was 100 less invoice. I ended up buying in Madison WI for 1400 below invoice. You can rent a car 1 way for 85.00 drive to Madison and save over 1300.00, to me its a no brainer email me if you want dealer information

Last Saturday, I was just window-shopping and a salesman explained the SE sedan. I liked what I heard, saw, and drove, so we got serious. They gave me $14,000 for my '04 Civic EX automatic sedan with 31,000 miles, and the price was $20,500, or $22,400 out-the-door. I paid the $8,400 to drive it away on an Amex card, which gives me 1% rebate.

On my request, they threw in a leather steering wheel cover which a specialist sews on, no more lacing it up yourself. That will take place Friday. (Even without a cover the steering wheel looks and feels fine.)

It came with a soft plastic trunk "tray" that has a lip all around to catch spills. It also came with the mud catchers on the fenders, and wheel security locks (which I removed.)

We never used the sliding roof on the Civic, and the Accord SE is the same as the EX except no roof, no power on driver's seat, no alarm, and no "ambient console lighting." The seats are very comfortable, and the driver's seat is easy to raise and lower with a handle you pump up or down.

The "carbon fiber-look" trim looks great on our new SE automatic sedan, Alabaster Silver with gray upholstery.

That was my experience. We're very happy with our new Accord. We liked the Civic but this is a big step up in many ways. Reading other postings, I see probably everyone got better prices, but I'm happy and pleased to have gotten a decent trade-in price for our Civic.

Thanks! I will e-mail them and see what response I get back. I wonder if they charge for high markup dealer installed accessories like 'appearance package'

BTW, have you bought yet, and if so, what was the sales experience like?

smackldog, do you think you could forward me the e-mail from Sheehy at cbod2k@yahoo.com - if not, I appreciate the information in any case. :)

rj5324, thanks for your reply as well. I did speak with Hersons who seemed pretty straightforward with their response.

Hope to wrap this up tomorrow.

That "specialist" that will sew on that steering wheel cover will be one of the shop techs. This is a job that they HATE! Don't worry, it'll come out fine.

If anyone purchase a accord in Tampa Bay area, please give me some price suggestion. Thanks.
  • fairshadowfairshadow Member Posts: 24
I am purchasing in west palm beach and getting quote fo 21k out door for accord EX till tommorw, since there is 1200 cash to dealer by honda, till 5th july only. For value pack the best rate i got is 17.7 out door , earlier everyone was quoting 18.9 for vp, for lx it is 19.00k out door
  • lilengineerboylilengineerboy Member Posts: 4,116
All those prices are for auto trans?
  • charipcharip Member Posts: 5
$18208 is the invoice price, take out the 1200, then add the tax (7%), I got ~18200. If you can get 17.7, I guess I should look for $500 below invoice after 7/5. Thanks.
  • andysdandysd Member Posts: 87
Re the steering wheel cover, this dealer contracts the sewing to an outside contractor. I get the idea it will look more like the OEM covers, not the lace-up which I have done a few times. I'll give a report when it's done.

Some tips if you are loooking for an Accord in the metroplex: selection is getting slimmer and nearly every car on the lots has dealer accessories that add $1000-$1500 to the sticker price. side note: although I did not stick around to see if this was applicable to the Accord, the worst culprit [IMO] of dealer installed accessories has been Vandergriff Honda. I saw three vehicles (suv's) that were loaded with lo-jack, tire warranty, "digi" something....it was outrageous.

    ==========================================================

Be prepared for the encounter in the F&I office. If you are not given an OTD upfront, determine it beforehand. If you are in Texas, you can use the following formula to get a rough estimate: Use (6.25% Sales Tax * selling price) + (127.05 DMV Fees) + (50.00 Documentation) + (.002543 x Car Price = Texas Inventory Tax). All of those added to car price = Drive-Out. Use this OTD figure and plug it into an online auto loan calculator to determine your monthly payments.

    =========================================================

I just had an unpleasant experience with an F&I person. I knew what my payments would be (Economics major/Accounting minor) yet this individual kept coming up with figures that deviated significantly from my calculations.

I understand the person has a job to perform but the manner in which this person conducted themselves was unprofessional and unethical.

What should have been a pleasant experience turned out to be anything but.
  • dorkulodorkulo Member Posts: 5
Just purchased the vehicle from southern California for $21,300 OTD. This is with 8.25% tax. Actual price of car was around $19.5k I believe.

Happened around 2 weeks ago but I've gained so much info from this site I thought I should give back. I purchased the EX-L V6 without navigation in KS. I had been emailing lots of dealers around the area for some starting OTD quotes. I went into the local dealer to negotiate and they tried every trick in the book. (I'm young) Told me how "special" I was and how I'm the only customer that gets to see the invoice price they brought out. I went in with all my info on paper with invoice, and rebates and everything listed. I also brought a calculator (good idea). After about an hour of negotiation they wouldn't go down from 26,700 OTD (7.3% tax). At one point their offer went up about a 100 bucks higher than their last :confuse: So we left. Next day I got a call from another dealer that asked what it would take to buy right now. I had read the post about the triple net pricing so I took invoice - rebates - holdback + tax and told him $25,400 OTD. They accepted and we went and picked it up. I've been very happy so far. Good luck to all potential buyers.

    Really?

We should probably do that since the guys in the shop just hate installing steering wheel covers.

Of course, we sell so few of them it's not a big deal. In 12 years, I think I may have sold three of them?

I'm surprised you go through so few of them. For like $80 you can spend the next 5-8 years holding on to something nice and comfortable vs a hard vinyl plasticy thing. If you did the wheel and the shift knob, it would make everything you have to touch every time you get in the car feel so much better.

New incentives if any will be available tomorrow, per dealer I spoke with.
  • adams05adams05 Member Posts: 9
We passed on all of the Bay Area dealers because of their high dealer fees. They wouldn't come near the price quotes that we got from dealers in other areas of the state.

We ended up driving the 87 miles north to Honda of Ocala. We got an excellent deal on the EX-L I4 4dr AT w/ Navigation. $24,700 OTD. Including trunk tray, wheel locks and wheel guards. Rick Case Honda, Maroone Honda of Hollywood and Ed Morse Honda also gave very competitive quotes.

It's definitely worth the drive, in my opinion.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Oh, I guess. To me a leather wrapped steering wheel isn't a big deal. To others (very few)it may be so I gesss that's why it's available as an option.

I can't remember the last time I had a customer want one.

I am going to back out of the flaky deal with Dealer 1 and request/fight to get my $2K back. I only signed a lease contract which hadn't even been approved (I later learnt that this is illegal)

I shopped around a little bit and have an offer of 20,250 from Dealer 2 on the SE V6 automatic which I will try to get down further when I go in tomorrow. Will post what finally happens.

THANK YOU ALL! This has been helpful and like many others, I *wish* I had done a more thorough job of reading the forum *before* I went in.

We passed on all of the Bay Area dealers because of their high dealer fees.

Good for you! One does it because "they all do it" - sooner or later they will figure out they are losing business to other dealerships and get with the program or face being a dealership that will not sell as many cars as they could.

If they made up for high fees with lower prices it would be one thing, but to offer a similar or even higher price AND a high fee just spells "walk away".

I had the sales manager at a local Scion dealership (no haggle, fixed price buying) tell me he got lots of business from folks far away because his doc fee was $50 less than the others. They could not dicker on the price, but they could save themselves $50 by doing a little extra driving - and they did.

    " From folks far away"

I wonder just how far some of these people would drive in order to "save" a lousy 50.00?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,200
It's only a lousy $50 when it belongs to someone else..

When it's your $50, it looks like this: $50

I think it is 15-25 miles from the other dealers. I think it is the "principle of the thing" more than anything else. With fixed pricing you can't deal and you expect to pay MSRP - then they tack on this stupid fee - so beating them out of $50 or $100 or whatever makes it worth it to some folks.

I had a similar experience with a F&I guy this week. Walked in, pre-approved, with a target OTD price and what my payment would be. F&I guy asked if I would go with their financing if he could get a lower rate. I agreed to this. Now, I'm no finance major but I know enough that a lower interest rate equals a lower monthly payment but this wasn't happening with this guy's numbers. The reason is because he was tacking on an extended warranty into the transaction...without my authorization. Even though I didn't have a calculator, I knew this warranty was way overpriced: increased monthly payment by $22 even at a lower interest rate.

Sadly, the lower interest rate was only available with their warranty. I said "no thanks" and stuck with my credit union's higher interest rate and lower monthly payment.

Like you, I wasn't happy with the F&I guy's approach but I was more upset at myself for fogetting to bring a calculator.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Well...if it's only 15 miles away, that really isn't "far" away. I have seen people, literally, drive 150 miles to "save" 50.00.
  • blufz1blufz1 Member Posts: 2,045
That's really offensive, glad you caught it.
  • smackldogsmackldog Member Posts: 82
A dealer in Morrow, GA is apparently advertising 0% APR financing (up to 36 months) for all new 2007 Accords in stock until 7/31/07 but doesn't indicate if it's a localized dealer deal, or regional/national Honda Financial Services program. Honda's website hasn't updated their site with any new incentives for Accords yet, but they did remove the 2.9%/4.9% Civic deal this morning.

Anybody here by chance know if this 0% is the "new" post 7/5/07 incentive, that replaces the $750 or $1200 marketing support dollars?

Guess we'll all know tomorrow when the info comes out...

I'm heading into my local dealer (I'm in Northern VA area) where I bought my I4 EX 5AT from to wrap up the deal tomorrow so I'll be checking into this. Once I wrap my deal up, I'll post the details of my experiences. It has been quite a journey!
  • adams05adams05 Member Posts: 9
Well, we saved $1,800, so it was worth the 87 miles to us. :)

The Tampa area dealers not only add on $500 and up dealer fees. They don't really move off of the "invoice" price. Whereas dealers in areas other than Tampa and Orlando will go lower than "invoice" and into the triple net range.

They flat out told us to take the internet quotes elsewhere because they "couldn't" come anywhere near the numbers the other dealers quoted.
  • fairshadowfairshadow Member Posts: 24
Initially i was getting quote for vp for 18.9 and noone was ready to lower their price, suddenly one dealer sent quote of 17.6 otd for vp. I beleive it shoudl have been priced around that only 18.9 was artificially too high for VP. dont know what this people do sometime raise price of some model to make them unattractive so that people go for higher model and they get dealer cashback
  • thezonethezone Member Posts: 26
Would you mind sharing the price & model that you bought? (im in DFW area)

Also - On a SE model, how will adding the "Security system" option increase the price? (the honda price for the accessory is $194)

    Thanks.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I'm glad it worked well for you but it also makes me wonder why any store would cheapen a great product by giving it away. Yeah, 1800.00 isn't chump change and 87 miles isn't that far for that kind of a savings.
  • adams05adams05 Member Posts: 9
I think it all comes down to location. Tampa and Orlando have many dealers and they seem to offer similar prices (in my experience). Dealers in smaller markets are willing to offer deals as a volume dealer. They're on the fringe of bigger markets like Tampa, Orlando, Miami and can draw the buyers away from those higher priced dealers. Our dealer said he sells a lot of cars to Tampa buyers for what that's worth.

I suppose you're either into volume sales or lower sales at a bigger profit. Two different approaches.

4 dealers outside of Tampa were within $150 of our OTD price. The funny thing was our car was bought at one of those dealers but had to be transfered from a Tampa dealer for our dealer didn't have the right color. The Tampa dealer had turned down our offer to buy at our target price range just the day before.

Keep drilling them down....Expand your search radius if you can, getting a hold of internet contacts @ dealers.....Dont buy this car over 20,000 before TTL!!!!!!!!!
  • slisstudentslisstudent Member Posts: 40
    Accord i4 sedan, auto, cloth:
selling price: 20450 (includes propack, pinstripe, door edge guards & moonroof visor) <- didn't want but nearly every car had this dealer package<br>
    sales tax: 1278.13
    state insp: 23.75
    inventory tax: 46.79
    lic & registration: 103.80
    doc fee: 55
    total drive out: 21957.47

the f&i guy offered 4.90% interest rate, yet my payments would have been higher than my credit union's 6.50%? this was because he had included a warranty with the rate. using an online auto loan calculator, i figured the cost of the warranty would have been $1890.

I can't stress enough that you have to be prepared when you walk through the dealership's doors. Have your worksheets prepared; they may offer to beat your interest rate so to avoid any surprises, determine what your monthly payments would be at your rate and compare to their rate; bring a printout of the cost of accessories; obtain an online quote of a Honda warranty and bring a calculator!
  • blufz1blufz1 Member Posts: 2,045
You should have started screaming when they tried to defraud you w/ the warranty. Then you could sit back and watch the manager role play and berate the F & I guy. Would have been a hoot!
  • slisstudentslisstudent Member Posts: 40
After the price was negotiated, I was given a presentation of other accessories to personalize an EX i4. It was a very soft sales pitch. If I recall correctly, I believe the cost of their security system with installation retailed at $499. The small spoiler with installation retailed at $499. tint retailed at $299.

    Good luck with your purchase.

I am in the market for a 2007 Honda Accord Coupe LX V6, no extras needed.

I was wondering what was a reasonable price?
I live in Southern California, and after requesting quotes from 5 dealers only received one reply with an actual price: $22,200 not including TTL from Honda of Pasadena.

Figuring that we have 8.25% sales tax here, I figure that I would go and ask for $24,000 OTD. Does this sound reasonable? By this figure, it's about $200 for TTL and $22,000 for the car, and $1,800 for taxes.

    Thanks!!
  • slisstudentslisstudent Member Posts: 40
The f&i guy had me second guessing my figures several times. This was possible because I had forgotten my updated worksheets that factored in the cost of the dealer accessories. He went on to doubt the accuracy of what I thought my loan payment should be as well as the accuracy of internet loan calculators.

Although I should have been upset, I'm not sure causing a scene would have changed things. He could have argued that he was providing me with a valuable service contract - a very high priced one! - but a service nonetheless.

Thanks to posts on this column, I knew that a Honda backed warranty was available online usually for less than what the dealer was charging.

My satisfaction comes from knowing that I did not fall for his tactics or salespitch and also from telling you all to be informed and attentive to the complete details on the purchase of your car. Your purchase doesn't stop with negotiating the selling price of the car. Remember to also devote time to the F&I portion of your car buying transaction.

    Be informed and prepared.
  • blufz1blufz1 Member Posts: 2,045
I was just keeping the conversation lively. Understand that if you had your deal, you wouldn't cause a scene. I think you did very well and your prep did pay off. Enjoy your car!

About a week ago, I bought the car for $21,300 before TTL, I am in MA, not in CA, so I think your quote of $22,000 is good, it is below both True Market Value and the invoice. My car is 4 doors sedan, not a coupe. But a coupe is generally $400 more than the sedan.

You can take that price of $22,000, go to another dealer and ask if they can match or lower it, or take that number into the dealer and negotiate for about $500-1000 lower, especially if they do not have the exterior color that you want, or the interior seat colors. Personally, I just sat there and stared at the manager and said I didn't like the wood trims inside and the ivory fabric seats, and he kept lowering the prices to $1000 less than the price they quoted for me. I still said no, so he got rude and yelled "may be you should wait for the 2008." I told the salesman, "Gosh you work for a terrible manager, I am done for the day, thanks for all of your help."

I called another dealer 20 miles away from me and they matched the lowest quote, and they had the car in Silver which was my ideal color.

But even at $22,000 for Southern Cali before TTL, I think it is a very good price, considering how popular the Accord is in this area, I used to live in OC/LA so I know.

Another thing is that there were very few LX V6 models left, whereas the EX 4Cyl and EXL and EXL V6 models are still plenty. So keep in mind you shouldn't over-negotiate if you really want the car and they are willing to sell at a price you are comfortable with.

By the way i LOVE my LX V6. Enjoy the car!
  • bensulbensul Member Posts: 12
I just got a quote from southern california dealer for an SE V6 for $19200 with destination charge included. so perhaps there's some sort of factory dealer incentive in this price. seems to me tyhat the 4 cylinders are selling better than the V6 (reason for the huge discount)
  • thezonethezone Member Posts: 26
    Thanks!

I would make a point to take a calculator to the dealership... would love to see the expression on the face of the F&I people .. :P :surprise:
