And the honda we got was a black on black coupe. The dealership didn't have the color my friend wanted and they had to get the car from another dealership, so I'm sure that didn't help for getting it at the lowest otd price....

All those internet quotes need not go to waste.... Pick one of the dealers that had a decent price, and seemed responsive to your e-mails..

Go in and see them, and bargain the best deal you can, in person.. Have a price in mind that you are willing to pay, and if you get that price, jump on it!

If your goal is to get an Accord at a good price, then you'll most likely be successful... If you are trying to get the lowest price, ever... then, maybe not.. ;)

If you are indeed in Cincinnati, I've had the best luck at Performance. Not that they won't still play the games... just less slimy than most.. I think the new Kings Honda is their dealership, as well, though I've never been there.

    Good luck!

I got reasonable quotes from several dealers for an Accord EX-L. The lowest quote I got was $23,200 plus TTL. However, the dealers are telling me that since with that low price they can't get the $900 manufacturer-to-dealer cashback. So they will only offer me higher APR rates. Is it truth? I checked the Honda official website and the 0.9% APR offer does not mention the $900 cashback restriction.

Thanks for the info & advice...Performance gave me the highest initial quote of the six I received a lifetime ago, $23.200 (price + dest), $24,900 (OTD)...I haven't pursued them since the quote, but they have been respectful (sent one follow up email to me).....
Kings Honda (located 3 miles from where I live) was formerly Century Honda (which had been located next door to the less than forthright Cadillac Dealership in Montgomery)....They haven't impressed me much after several contacts...They presently have an email from me requesting a specific quote on the EX with a reduced price from their initial quote that I sent following a phone message I received yesterday, telling me about a great "price reduction" on the LX....a trim level that I never inquired about, nor asked for......
I don't think I can tolerate many more "mistakes"......

Very interesting info. I never heard of trading in your leased car before. I wonder how one can have equity in a car you don't own. I have leased for years and have never been informed of this option. Does it depend on the type of lease? I have had leases where I held the title to the car and ones like the one I have now where I do not. Of course every state is different also. I have the feeling if I propose this to my local dealer he will tell me it's not possible. Is there anywhere I can find more info on this? Do you have a link?

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I've gone through the posts, but I'm not use to this forum format, so it's a bit confusing.

Anyway, I've been shopping for a 2010 Accord Sedan EXL. My most recent quote from a dealer was $21,800. This does not inlude tax, destintaiton or documents.

Any feedback as to whether this is a good deal? Thanks.
  • swamybswamyb Member Posts: 38
Thats a great price.. I paid $21500 for EX, but I wanted basque red, which was not available from any nearby dealers. They had to get it shipped from else where..
  • jikjik Member Posts: 144
    finally brother bought it --

    $ 22400 drive out

He was happy he could get it done within 2 hours

i'm new to the forum and loving the accord. i'm planning on buying a certified pre-owned car at the dealership. they're advertising a 08 accord 4dr LX 30k miles for $16,000. i''m from california. this will be my first time buying a car at all and am quite nervous about it. what is a good price for it new? i'm just not sure how much i would be saving if i bought the car used.

sorry if i ask some dumb questions, i'm just new to the whole what's included deal. i assume that i just have to pay for reg/tax/paperwork on top of the price of the car? plus, the price doesn't include mud flaps or mats right?

thanks for the help. i really appreciate it.

    john.

    $22400 out the door for a 2010 EX? That's a good deal!
We paid $23800 for ours (out the door price which is about $21.xxxk before CA tax) - a 2009 closeout.

What is your tax rate? It's 9.75% here.
  • jikjik Member Posts: 144
its GA. so the tax rate is either 6.5 or 7 %

its not my car so i dont know the exact breakdown

    Hi jimex10

Thats a great price you got...is it ex-l auto? and did you get the 1.9% special rate?
  • arrowhead98arrowhead98 Member Posts: 7
21,800 sounds like a good deal...is it auto and what other fees do u need to pay.

    the best offer i got was 23,488(w/des charg) + 55 doc fee + TTLfor ex-l 4d I4 auto with special 1.9% rate.

Yes, it's a EXL, Coupe, I4 with auto ($22,864.00 including destination charge). I had to pay $298 for doc fees, plus state sales tax. Honda was not offering the 1.9% when I bought the car, so I got a 3% loan from my credit union. I bought it at Boch Honda in Norwell, MA.

I got an internet quote of 20K include destination.

    Is this a price?

    Hi Dannyle,

You can compare your price to one of the prices i'm getting for a Honda Accord LX 2010 w/ mud flaps, car mats, security, and cargo mat in CA w/ tax of 9.75%. I was offered $21600 OTD.

What does everyone else think about this price? How much wiggle room do you think I have since I notice people are purchasing the EX more.
  • tap6tap6 Member Posts: 2
    hi jnc28,

That seems to be a a good price. Are you getting the 1.9% apr financing with this
    price?

We got our Accord LX for $18632 (including desitination)+ TTL. The OTD price was $20570 (tax rate 8.25%). We did not get any extra accessories, just the door guard, which was given for free.

We got this car 3 weeks back and there was no 1.9% special apr financing then.

Got an internet price of $27,850 out the door. (including nyc tax which is 8.75%) for 2010 accord EXLV6 sedan.
Thought it sounded good. I'm in nyc area. Any thoughts on price?
    Thanks!

21k plus tax and title and includes mudguards, pin stripes and cargo mat plus 1/2 price oil changes for 4 years and free tire rotoation and blanacing for 4 years is about as good as it gets when not including any $900 honda bonus.it take alot of rough house negotiating and taking alot of abuse from many car dealers to get it but it can be done.i'm now waiting for toyota to over 2k loyalty bonus and 100k bumper to bumper wrranty and i'm buying a corolla for my soon. to be honest the hyduai sonota is a heck of car and gets great ratings
  • jnc28jnc28 Member Posts: 14
    hey tap,

thanks for the reply. i'm going to go to my credit union to see what i can get. then i'll see if i can qualify or still get the same OTD price w/ the 1.9%. this is actually the 1st dealership we stopped by, so we got a long 2 weeks ahead of us. i'll keep everyone posted about my offers and what the final cost will be for us.

How does $24,900 sound for a 2010 EX-L V6 (no nav) before tax and fees, Dealers seem to be willing to deal this month. I think I may be able to get a few 100 more off, Working 4 different dealers and have told them I will buy from the one who offers the lowest price.
    I'm in upstate NY

Just got my Accord LX 4 cyl OTD for $21,100. They really have you over a barrel with the dealer add ons whether you want them or not. The salesman says all DFW dealers have them now and it's almost impossible to find an Accord in this area without them. They all have the same add ons; tint, wheel locks, cargo mat and pin stripe, which was everything I got on mine for that price. I'm pretty much satisified since my last purchase four years ago for the new model Camry LE was about $500 more than this one. I also got a price back in May for an 09 Accord with pretty much the same add ons except for the pin stripe, and the OTD then was a little over $24,000.

I Did it..I Did it...Free at last.....Bought the 2010 Accord EX, Silver with Gray interior, 27 miles on the odometer, today at Kings Honda...Not the lowest price (I think Chan432000 has that distinction) but reasonable enough and after three months, I was more than ready (and doubly so was the wife) for this madness to end....
Here are the #'s...$22,500 + my 1994 Cadillac Seville OTD...Broken down, Selling Price $21,345.31 + Doc. Fee $250 + Sales Tax (6.5%) $1371.19 + Title/Filing Fees $33.50...Subtotal $23,000, minus $500 trade-in allowance equals $22,500....The intangibles won the day for Kings, as they are located 4 miles from my house, the temperature rose high enough that the Caddy would start (remember I was going to donate it to Goodwill), and I was basically disgusted with everyone else (including Kings, until the deal was done) I have had to deal with during this process.
Now, as I promised, the names...I am near Cincinnati, Ohio...The "mistake" (manual instead of automatic), quote was from Castrucci Auto Mall in Dayton. The revised quote of $20,699 (price + Dest) was still the lowest I had, and I used it as my Ace in the Hole...The 60 mile round trip over rough terrain and my past negative experience led me to willingly spend a few hundred more for convenience, certainty and completion.....
The second best initial quote was from Wyler on Colerain, the third best was from Honda East on Beechmont. They were both initially around $23,000 OTD. Neither would give me an additional quote which I requested last week...Wyler made false accusations, East ignored me. I'm fairly certain I could've gotten at least as good a deal from either as I did from Kings, perhaps a little better, if I had offered a price or directly used Castrucci and the others to bargain with...In actually, I used all three in my bargaining with Kings...Kings second round quote was $23,432 (fourth best). Kings wouldn't match Castrucci, stayed at Wyler and East's initial offers, yet sealed the deal with me when they offered $500 for the Caddy, sight unseen over the phone, which got me close enough to Castrucci OTD (in my own particular circumstance) that I could wave goodbye. If Kings had'nt worked out, I would have proceeded to East, then Castrucci, then probably six feet under.
What have I learned ? Buying a car is an unpleasant experience...Price is important, but isn't everything...Edmunds is a formidable tool...Though I may have spent more than I ultimately had to, I was conscious of it...without my preparation and use of the internet, this could easily have been an additional $1500 or more.
Now, I can move on, enjoy other aspects of my life, and hopefully be able to write a helpful "consumer review" after the rubber hits the road for a while.
    Thanks to everyone....

Your right about the dealer experience. MOST OF THE TIME it's an unpleasant experience. Until the time when the dealer network is either done away with, or completely overhauled, it will probably continue to be unpleasant!
  • mz16895mz16895 Member Posts: 1
Hi,I am new to Edmund. Can you tell me where did you buy the car ?I am very intrested in it.
  • chan432000chan432000 Member Posts: 18
yes it is a very unpleasant experience and i consider myself the ultimate hardball negotiator and it tired me out.10 days of driving my ex and the ride is awesome, the car is very roomy, the sunroof is great and the stereo is very good.MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THE DRIVERS SEAT IS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE FOR ME. the problem with the seat is its made like a racing seat were the sides come in and the seat is as hard as a rock.anyone found a solution for it such as a special pad?
  • zowzowzowzow Member Posts: 6
I think my deal was just as good. See my post #24754. I paid $20,144 plus tax and title, though I didn't get the extras you got. Also, my deal did include the $900 bonus, so maybe they were almost identical deals?
    --ZowZow
  • arrowhead98arrowhead98 Member Posts: 7
Don't trust dealers when they say that they cant combine the 900 cash back and special rate. Here is the reason why

    24,319 - 900(cash back) - 805(3% dealer holdback) + 710(des charge) = 23,324(true dealer invoice)

    I paid 23,540 with a trunk tray.

here is the final break down

    23,540 + 55(doc fee) + TTL with the 1.9% finance.
  • carsalesman2carsalesman2 Member Posts: 22
If the dealer network is "done away with" you'll pay a lot more for your cars.

Regarding the unpleasant experience, yes, some dealers are better than others. But, that guy took 3 months to buy a car. Salespeople fielded countless emails from him. All, to make a very minimal profit. And at the end of the day, only one dealer got his minimal profit of the 10 salespeople/dealers time that he wasted. (Im not sure he was up to 10, but not far)

An overhaul of the sales process would be great. Especially, if it stops the madness of a 3 month shopper which handed one salesperson 100 bucks and 9 others nothing. And those were just the Honda salespeople. He said he shopped other makes as well!

Who knows how much time for these salespeople he wasted.

The competition is great, Im all for it. My point is, dont expect perfection when the system you're working against is the same system we are working against.

At the end of the day, it came down to his Cadillac that wouldnt start and get any further than the closest dealer and a higher price. From the perspective of all the good salespeople he dealt with who didnt get the deal...WTF?

I'm sorry I was so selfish...I wish I could see things in such black and white, concrete terms as you appear to.......not.
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,136
cincyaccord....you did fine. While I understand that sales people get a little upset when you shop around. Having so much competition makes it harder for them to do a deal.

Nothing wrong with you shopping around.

BTW....I was just over at King's last weekend (looking at Infinitis). I didn't realize that Century Honda moved to Kings. Looks like they've got a bigger store than their old one.

As a side note, talking to the manager at King's Infiniti, he said it's not unusual for their buyers to take 3 months to finally make a purchase from initial contact to when the customer takes delivery.

Every sales person's ideal is having a customer walk into their store, see a car they really have to have, and buy immediately without checking out the competition.

    I think that's a rarity, however.

As you noted, doing business with a store or sales person you trust is important.

I know the stores I choose to deal with, are not always the ones who get my business for one reason or another. I've never had any of them tell me "you wasted my time" when informing them I purchased somewhere else. They cordially say..."sorry we couldn't do business, but keep us in mind the next time you're in the market." I always do.

    Congrats on the new Accord.

I want to thank you all for some great information. It's fun to read postings (even ones with which I don't agree) from intelligent people with useful things to say.

I've been hanging around for about three weeks as I was looking to buy a new car and pulled the trigger last Saturday on an EX-L.

I actually wanted to write about the sales manager's strategy. Maybe it's common, but I didn't see it coming (I've only bought two cars before, both used). He brought out a printout of what he said was the actual price the dealer paid for the car, showing that at the invoice price he was making a certain amount. I was not willing to buy the car at that price, so I said I couldn't in good conscience negotiate any further because I wasn't interested in cheating the salesman (who was a likable fellow) out of his commission. I said I'd have to go home and do more research. So, naturally the sales manager went back to his office for 5 minutes and came back with an offer I was willing to accept.

Is this a common tactic? I've never been given specific figures (even misleading ones) like that.

For what it's worth, they didn't screw with me. I said "no" to the first offer, and the next one was in line with what I had seen on this forum. I did mention that I knew about the incentives and what prices people were paying, etc. I was in and out of the dealership in about an hour, including the test-drive.

Thanks chan432000...As I don't want to advertise for any dealership, I went to Wal-Mart today and picked up a chrome barbed wire rear license plate bracket holder (looks nice) to replace the plastic one they put on the car....While there, browsing in the Automotive Dept., I came upon a Gel Bottom Seat Cushion made by Relaxen for $19.96 ($21.26 OTD) which I bought. It's fairly thin and has a non slip underside, doesn't look bad (black color), & the ride home was somewhat softer.....

Our best quote so far an on EX-L 4 cylinder is $22,790 (car + destination) from a dealer here in NC.

Is that in line with what others are paying? Any recommendations with NC dealers (he lives in Winston-Salem).

Hello: Has anyone bought a new 2010 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L with NAV recently. I was wondering what the current out the door price would be. My sister-in-law just started looking, and the dealerships here in Florida are talking in the $30,000 range. What do you think? Thanks, Corky

I just bought a EXL I4, auto, coupe without Nav. for 24,083 - out the door - includes all fees and taxes. So you figure to add Nav it will cost you another $2k. - which would have brought my car up to around $26k. Is your $30k offer for a EXL, Nav and a V6?? If so, I would offer them $28ish out the door. $26ish if it's a I4,

Is there a dealer processing fee? Or dealer installed options that would be additional? Or would it be $22,790 (car + destination), and just taxes and tags additional? If there are no additional fees, could you share the name of the dealer?

    Thanks.
