congrad on ur new car purchase, i am in a market for accord also did u have to pay for the dealer-add on accessories? i been told that i would have to pay for them. thank u
  • mirageseamiragesea Member Posts: 29
I did not pay for any extras that were offered while I was buying the car...like extended warranty, etc. The car came with mud guards, trunk liner and wheel locks--all of which I was told were extras but none of which I paid for. However I have a feeling they were included in their final price.

In West Chester Pennsylvania, Scott Honda sold me an EX 4cyl, auto Pearl Blue for $22,100 OTD w/ 7yr 100k warranty. I normally avoid the warranty but got it for wife's peace of mind. That 6% tax $140 TTL without the warranty that is just about $20,800. See another dealer and you will get it.

I did and saved a small fortune. I picked up mine (see above for details) four weeks ago tomorrow and love it. Wife and I have made 3 road trips and racked up 3500 miles in a month. She is most likely trading in 2009 Outback on an AWD Crosstour next spring. Future son-in-law pick up an EXL V6 Polished Metal yesterday in NH and paid just over $24k. I told him what I paid and he got a similar deal on an upgraded model. ~Good luck~

Congratulations on your new car purchase...
Just wanted to get some information as I am trying to buy an LXP too...Is your car stick shift/Automatic?
Can you please give the split? Invoice price(destination included), tax, title/reg fees, tire tax etc so that this can help me negotiate based on the invoice price?

    Thanks a lot...

I wonder how many accord buyers test drove the sonata and still ended up getting an accord. I understand owner loyalty and all, and staying with a particular brand-- I just wonder how many folks who started car shopping with no particular bias and test drove both cars preferred the accord over the sonata. I'm interested in how people feel about both cars. Perhaps I'm in the wrong forum room for this query.

I was just offered 18,600 for a base LX with manual transmission. However, they were 750 short on my trade. Which according to trucar is the average price for the car. Imagine that. Lets see what happens tomorrow.

Sorry for late response but I have been visiting 2011 Sonata Forum since I am smitten by that vehicle but cant get one-sold out!

Most of the DFW dealers will happily sell 2010 Accord EX 4dr 5spd. AT at 21.5 k plus TTL and the drive away price will be about 23k BUT if pushed and if its end of month or sitting on lot for while, they will sell at 21k or even less by say 100. McKinney dealership will sell it close to 21k if the car has been on lot for say 60 days. Talk with Rick Rawson he is a sales mgr. and will deal with you. They had lots of Accord on lot in May and June. Their doc. fees are low at 125. I have never heard of such low prices on an Accord!

The other dealers that will sell close to 21k are Eagle Honda ( Jeff Gilbert, internet sales), David McDavid Frisco. Email your best offer! Always tell them OTD price or they will add fake fees.

    I did buy LX-P Accord 5spd 4 dr. for a family member from McKinney Honda at 19, 250 , OTD @ 20,750.10

    Good luck!
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
Is this with destination charges? For LX 5 speed manual with dest. it should be lot less. Its $18,500 for LX Auto, so subtract automatic transmission price at invoice value plus TTL! I would say its closer to 17,700 plus TTL!

I drove both cars (Sonata GLS 6MT and Accord EX 5MT). I really wanted to like the Sonata, and loved so much about it (DI engine is stupid fast, USB, trip computer, and Bluetooth were nice to see in the base model, and it was very refined). But......I couldn't fit in the backseat (I think a six-footer should fit into a full size car w/o a problem), and I couldn't get it to drive smoothly (very temperamental clutch and weird throttle retardation on every 1-2 shift). The Accord, on the other hand, lacked the above convenience features, wasn't quite as powerful or torquey, and was a bit louder, but the near-perfect gearbox and clutch, and HUGE back seat did it for me. That, and I got my car at $1600 under invoice (I don't think Hyundai dealers are dealing as aggressively as Honda dealers based on what I saw).
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
2011 is the same car as 2010 with minor modifications versus total redesign of a model which will happen in Fall of 2012 as 2013 model.

My 2003 Accord EX V6 transmission was a dud and it was an intro model.
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
I drove both cars repeatedly and both drive well and I would give an edge to Accord for dynamics but love the warranty, the updated features and Sonata's styling. I only drove automatic so can't comment on manual. There is some discounting on Sonata but not like Accord. Accord is a safe bet from reliability to resale, whereas Sonata is a new model and lot of unknowns.

Offer for 24,600 OTD with the cash back offer here in NC. The rates they are offering is 4.95% I have a very good credit history and score but no recurring payments. The dealer says as this is my first loan I will not get an APR better than this. Any thoughts?

    jsmith,
Shop more, and if you can wait until end of the month. I think you can get that car OTD for around $23,800, and would tell them to give me the 0% or the 1.9% financing or no deal.

Shop another dealer if you can. Also if you are close to SC, Midlands Honda in Myrtle beach is well known for dealing.
    Just my humble opinion!

    Good Luck!

I had an agreement for 24,029 for EX-L i4 leather No navi and I was made to think that I would still qualify for 0.9% financing. However, at the last moment, i was told that for this price I would not get 0.9% financing since the dealer is not getting the $1,000 incentive. I was told that I would have to pay extra $1,000 to get the 0.9% to make up what the dealer was losing. So i would have to pay 4.9% for financing to get 24,029 price or pay $25,029 to get 0.9%. I figured that this was just a scam and ripoff and decided to walk away from the deal. It is just a waste to time to negotiate on a good price and then the dealer tries to rip you off in the financing part.

We were (my wife and I) having a similar debate.
For us it came down to "residual value", now please understand and I emphasize "WE DO NOT LEASE" so it is about two to three year final values.
    I did a spread sheet using KBB.com and NADAGUIDES.COM, and Edmunds.com,
The homed three year values as denoted by these websites showed more value for the Honda.
    Good luck in your search.

Have you bought the EX? How much is the OTD price? did you get the 0.9% APR?
  • bluecharm7bluecharm7 Member Posts: 2
I got the EX-L V6 for 1500 under invoice and the 1.9% financing. The dealer has some cash incentive going on right now and that is the 1000 dollars. But the Accords are selling for $1000-1500 under invoice. I had a dealership do the same thing but if you call around and tell them that you have a dealership willing to give you such and such price with the .9% financing ask them if they will beat it or match it. That is how I did it. I never went to the dealership I bought the Accord from until I had worked out the deal over the phone. I had 2 dealerships who were willing to do the deal while the others just weren't willing to sell the car. Just call around and tell them that you already have a dealership willing to give you a great price with the low financing and I am sure that some one will match it.

Correct. Accord is a safer bet with resale and reliability, though our 03 Accord EX V6's transmission went kaput at 68k. We wanted longer warranty (and better mileage) since we keep our car for 10 years or more.

I was debating 2010 Accord EX 4cyl. AT vs. 2011 Sonata SE both being sold well below invoice at 21k or OTD at 22.6k. Dang! Saw a post that somebody got OTD price of 24k on EX-L 4cyl and EX for 22.1k!

BTW, 2011 Accord has better mileage (23/34) and also gets USB connection on radio for EX and EX-L. A New trim level SE comes with leather and 6 cd changer. How much will they be discounted? I am in waiting mode!

Dang! That is great deal! I am getting OTD of 22.6 or SP=21k! Do they have lot of cars on lot? That makes a difference too!

Has anyone postponed for 2011 Accord? It has no mechanical changes but some minor tweaking done! Will it be as heavily discounted down the road?
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
You have an unbelievably good deal. I offered 22.2k on EX 4cyl 4dr and was turned down and left the dealership at that point.

Does you vehicle have what Dallas metro area dealers call it the Protection Package which consists of mats, trunk guard, mudguards, wheel locks, tinting and pinstripes? Its retail value is 600 but probably costs 400 or less. Its pretty much installed on all Accords.
  • meepermeeper Member Posts: 20
On June 30 I finalized my purchase of a 2010 Honda Accord EX-L 4Cyl w/o nav (Polished Metal Metallic with gray interior) for 22,686 OTD. I also took advantage of a $500 coupon from Honda for financing with them -- effectively $22,186 net total.

American Express ZAG was the starting point for negotiations....the coupon from American Honda Finance was a nice addition.

    Meeper,

You have the lowest price for EX-L I have heard of, if it's an automatic. May I ask what the name of your dealership is? Does your car have dealer installed options like protection package (mudguards, wheel locks, door edge protectors, mats, trunk guard and tint)? Dallas area dealers want 600 more for it!

I though Honda's low interest financing is not offered if you get such a huge discount. Congratulations on a superb deal.
  • meepermeeper Member Posts: 20
Yes it is an automatic. Criswell Honda in Germantown Maryland. I went via the American Express ZAG program. No dealer installed options, but they threw in wheel locks free. I live in Northern Virginia and the ZAG dealer in Virginia wanted over $1,000 more for mudguards, wheel locks, door edge protectors and a pin stripe! I really dislike the dealer installed options, so I drove an extra few miles to save a little over $1,000.

Also, in Virginia the dealer processing fees run from $350 to over $500. Criswell only charged $100. So the base price was $21,838, plus dealer fee ($100), plus sales tax (VA 3% = 658.14), plus title and registration ($85.50), plus tire tax? ($4) total of just under $22,700.

The .9% financing was not available as I opted for the $1,200 cash incentive -- I financed through Honda (3.99%) just to get the $500 off. Will be paying off immediately with my home equity line of credit at 2.75%. Will be paid for in 3 - 6 months. I sold a VW convertible and got way more than I expected so I will be using the proceeds to pay off the bulk of the loan.

Let me know if you would like more info.....this forum was extremely helpful to me and I would like to pass it on.
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
Thanks. Your sales tax is enviably low as we pay 6.25% in TX. I doubt we can get it for less than SP of 22k plus TTL due to the that phoney protection pkg. which is installed by all the dealers here.

I assume that anyone applying for Honda Financing gets the 500 instantly off the loan value?
  • rachel_larachel_la Member Posts: 3
wow you did a really good job...

I'l trying to negotiate with sales people here in california ,but It'doesn't really work

    even with LX-S model...

I felt like you do...seemingly could not find a dealer that didn't have some angle to boost profit like the unwanted, low value dealer installed options, but there are a few out there that don't. If you are going through the ZAG program you might want to check another organization (Amex, Costco, Overstock.com) and see if you can get multiple dealer referrals. I needed 3 separate referrals to find a dealer that didn't charge for dealer installed options.

For the $500 off Honda Financing, I got an email from American Honda Finance offering the $500 off if I financed a purchase through them -- it was not automatic. And not exactly $500 off loan value -- they make your first payment up to $500. If all goes well I will only make one payment to them.

If all else fails, I think Criswell Honda delivers....they were making a delivery to the eastern shore of Maryland on the day I was there.

    Good luck.

I am unable to get anything close to my offer of 22,200 OTD for EX or 24,200 OTD with sales tax of 6.25%, $177 for T&L and another 125 for doc. fee. They want 800-1000 more.

I was told that in May and June Honda had more than 1200 incentives for dealers and ever since Honda started the clearance ads. it has been reduced. Holdbacks are about 500 and 1200 was the well publicized incentives and there has to be more than 1000 in further inventory reduction help from factory. The invoice on EX-L is 25,000 or their wholesale is 24,500. You got it for 2800 below wholesale.

Amex told me that they cant have get dealers to give a low price internet quote in Texas, auto mafia state. She said that under Am Ex agreement all incentives to dealers need to be passed on to customers. I will contact Criswell Honda and see if they want to sell me one at that great price price. Thanks for your help.

Enjoy the fact that you made a killing!
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
Is there a specific person you dealt with at Criswell, I will call them tomoroow and see if they can sell it to me. I am going to be in Chicago next weekend so I can fly from there.

They have very few cars left on website's listing of the inventory. At that price I will go to next choice of color Alabaster silver/gray after polished metal.

    Thanks.

Not sure if the salesperson is all that important -- If I could figure out a way I could have her call you.

Let me know if I can provide any other useful information.
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
    Thank you.

I did contact Criswell's Internet Sales Dept. and their offer was about 23k plus TTL., about same as here.

You timed it right, the inventory level was high and better incentives, I suppose.

The Texas dealerships have huge selections of Accords, but not willing to discount more than 2000 plus they add on phoney dealer installed protection package of $600.

You were offered discount of 3,213= 24,319 invoice plus 750 dest. less SP 21,838. Therefore your dealer had additional factory incentives more than 1,200. Holdbacks are about 500 to 700 on Accords. Wow! That is a killer deal!
  • nogiveupnogiveup Member Posts: 1
Could you please list the exact breakdown of the price? I am living in Rockville and I am also shopping around for a LXP. I email Criswell honda and the lowest offer they offered is 19356 +TTL. Do you think they are just playing the higher price game until the end of the month? Should I wait until end of the month to get a lower price? Thanks!
  • meepermeeper Member Posts: 20
Well....when I checked American Express - ZAG - a few minutes ago I actually got a lower price than what I was quoted if I use a Baltimore, Maryland area zip code (21133) for Honda Accord. They do not identify the dealer unless you submit an inquiry...but it might be worth a try. I would be sad if you got a deal better than mine, but I would be happy for you.

    Hello All,

I'll looking to purchase a 2010 Honda Accord EX fabric interior with the 0.9 APR. For those in NJ how much did you recently get the Honda Accord EX for? Did you get the 0.9 APR? What dealer did you get it at? I just came from Burns Honda in Marlton, NJ and hate the BS...

    Thank you in advance!

  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
Thanks. Tried but it gave me 23,388 for EX-L. You must have magic touch! You should start car buying business with your great skills.

I am sort of torn between this car and Sonata, which is a great value but very dicey purchase since it has lot of unknowns!

Thanks again and enjoy your car, and you do have the golden trophy for the best deal on Accord EX-L so far!
  • goldy_girlgoldy_girl Member Posts: 2
What does SP stand for? What was the amount quotes before tax & tags? What APR did you get? Thanks!
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
SP= selling price with dest. included but not the ttl. Best approach is to offer OTD=out of door price since dealers will pad up fees if sp is low.

meeper has gotten a great deal so read his/her info. Based on that info I suggest use amex-zag and costco, overstock.com even direct email to get bottom price for accord ex auto. If you can get it for less than SP= 20,400 without dealer installed protection pkg. retails for 600, but not worth 200, than its good deal. With prot. pkg they all want to sell you for 23,000 -23,500 plus TTL . Since dealers add document fee or processing fee inquire since it varies from 100 to 400! Once you know your best price than ask dealer what is the best financing you can get-yes if you go for .9% financing you will get for invoice price which I think is not a big deal since 2.99-3.99% financing is available plus money up front is worth more now than later.

Try AMEX Car Buying Service! You will get the selling price in your area instantly.

    Good luck!
  • meepermeeper Member Posts: 20
Yeah...the prices seem to change pretty frequently...stopped giving me such low quotes for Baltimore area zip codes....now they are lower for Northern Virginia (zip code 22015). No magic touch - just luck.

I looked pretty hard at the Sonata mostly because of the warranty, but ended up coming back to the Accord. I have owned 2 CRVs and they have been the best, most maintenance free cars with way above average resale values. I am sold on Honda for now.

Don't give up on the Accord....I got a great deal on a CRV a few years ago right around model change over time. Seemed like the dealer was getting rid of old model year stock at pretty attractive prices.

Good luck with whatever you decide to get.

I saw the college graduate incentive in edmunds.com

    "Financing Start: 07/01/2010 End: 09/07/2010
.9% APR Term: 24 months Get Dealer Pricing
.9% APR Term: 60 months Get Dealer Pricing
Restrictions Special Graduate APR available to Graduates or students who will graduate with a masters, bachelors, or associates degree from a U.S. accredited college or registered nursing school. Eligibility period covers 4 months prior to graduation and up to 2 years after graduation. Please see your dealer for program details. Vehicle must be financed through the manufacturer's captive finance company.
Comments Dealer participation may vary. Incentives and Rebates are provided subject to the terms of our Visitor Agreement."
But I didn't find this incentive on Honda's website

Does anyone know I can get the 0.9 special apr with the 1200 Manufacturer to Dealer at the same time?

A reporter is looking to speak to consumers who were looking at mid-size vehicles and were choosing between a four and six cylinder engine but chose the four cylinder because of fuel prices or to save money. Please send your daytime phone number and the car you purchased to ctalati@edmunds.com by Monday, July 19, 2010.

    Here's a novel idea....

Pay a fair price for the vehicle!! You seem to have problem with dealers making a profit. Why is that?

Invoice is $22,332 + $750 (Dest) - $1200 incentive = $21,882 + $500 profit for dealer $22,332 = $24,100 Drive out. IF you want the interest rate, add $1200 and your looking at $23,532+TTL (which is the better deal if you are going to finance the entire 5 years)

If you cannot afford to pay a fair price, buy less car - KIA comes to mind.
