I just bought a Honda Accord Coupe V6 EX, automatic (please read message #3555) and posted the price I bought. I got the feedback that the price I paid was too low, unbelievable true. I would like to share the experience how I bought it. First, I used the Edmund to request the quote from 10 difference dealers from close to far away from my home. I'm living in Orange County and I request the quote from San Diego and Ventura county dealers. Within an hour, I got 4 quotes from 4 dealers, three is local and one from Ontario where is about 35 miles from my house. I then pick up the 2 lowest one to negotiate and reply to the other 2 to tell them that their quotes are higher. I didn't tell them the names of the 2 dealers giving me the lowest prices. One of them came back to me beating the lowest price that I got. At that time, I got 2 offers: 1. $23590 + tax and license with free wheel lock and first free oil change. The interest rate is 3.9% for 48 month. 2. $23,634 + tax and license with free wheel lock and splash guard. The interest rate is 2.9% for 48 month. I went to #2 dealer (which is Santa Ana Honda dealer) to see the car and tried to negotiate a little bit more (sorry, I'm cheap). Somehow, I felt very comfortable to deal with the Internet salesman and I bought the car from him. The dealer didn't have the color I like (red). The salesman asked the other dealer to trade with him and he went to pick up the car from the other dealer for me. Based on my experience, request the quote from many different dealers and pick up one or two lowest prices. Send email to thank the other dealers nicely and waiting for them to match the price. Good luck and hope my buying experience will help you a little.
What should I pay for a new 2003 LX AT, no side airbags? I looked at it last night and will probably try to buy it on Sat. 3/6. Ask is $17,500. How low should they go?
Funny thing about side airbags. People either HAVE to have them or they couldn't care less about them and won't pay the extra 250.00. I think more people fit into the second catagory.
So, if a dealer has twenty silver LX Accords without side bags and one with them he may hold out a bit for a higher price knowing the right buyer will come along.
yes, a good price for a good automobile. I have a quote for barely less than that, but it isn't enough to get excited over when you look at the savings spread over the life of the car! Buy the car and be happy knowing you got a good deal.
I just brought the Accord at $21400 base price which is almost $950 less than Invoice price .Here are details $21,400.00 base price 5.6 % Tax in Milwaukee,WI OTD: 22800.00 Deal includes spalsh guards, Allseason floor mats & Cargo tray ..Took Honda APR 1.9% for 36 months.Finalized the deal before 03/01 to get Honda financing..Also took Extended warranty at additional cost of $1000(7y/100k miles) with $0 dedectable... Let me know your views on this..Does this Extended warranty worth.. Its Repair Master package from Warrnatech company.
I just purchased a 04’ Accord EX-L 5-speed MT with navigation. The color is graphite pearl. This car is awesome. I love the clutch on this bad boy. The MT is absolutely flawless; it’s as smooth as butter. It was hard to find the EX-L in a clutch. This car is so fun to drive and the four banger holds its own on the road.
Everyone in the bay area had stockpiles of the automatics being the more popular choice. When it came down to it I paid 23600.00(About 200 over invoice)+taxes (8.5%) and dmv fees (1.5%), 25900 OTD. I was very happy with the price (almost paid 28000 for a TSX w/navi) but reading the boards I am seeing some people get close to a thousand off invoice (but most of these are automatics, not to many purchases of the MT), congrats to all of you.
The service I received was great. The people at Honda treated me with respect and did not haggle with me at all. At first I was searching for an Acura TSX. When it came down to it though the TSX was too small and to overpriced IMO(I am 6’3 250lbs.). The service at Acura was pretty bad with the exception of Sunnyvale Acura. Every salesman shunted my wife, and me and I feel a lot of that was because of our age. I am in my early twenties so they figured someone like me would not have the Acura type of money.
That being said I am in love with this car and the navigation. The inside is roomy and the seats are plush and comfortable. This car is all luxury with the exception of the BMW or Mercedes name plate. Materials inside this vehicle are first class and the car is very quite. The gas mileage is unbelievable about 26-34 (thank god, gas is outrageous about 2.10 a gallon in the bay area). I know that I will be very happy with my Accord for years to come.
I've been watching prices here on Edmunds for quite a while and just bought the EX-V6 for 24,450 plus tax and license. I know it was a little more than most are paying on the board but felt that buying at a dealership close to home (south central Kentucky) was worth a little extra. So far I am very happy with the car. Good luck to all who are shopping for a new Honda Accord.

I don't know how to answer that question. What I can tell you is that I purchased a brand new (8 miles) 2004 LX 4cyl 5 sp AT WITH Side Air Bags 5 weeks ago for $17,852.33 (includes dest and $100 dealer admin fees,Tax Tags & Title extra.) See my message #3825 on this board for specific details.
Supply and demand for similar vehicles in your area may or may not make a similar deal available for you. I think the only way to find out is by an email/Fax attack of all your area dealers.
I bought my '04 Accord sedan EX-L because the head-protecting air bags were standard on that model. Of course, the other features: leather, 8-way power seat, auto temp control, XM radio are included, too.
All cars will have head-protecting curtain air bags as standard equipment in a couple of years. The current retail price is only $300--that's $150 per side to protect your brain!
I think it makes little sense to buy ANY new car without side, head-protecting air bags.....Richard
I for one wouldn't doubt the price achieved by jmaxe, myself having obtained an 03 EX-V6 coupe price that wasn't as good but was still $900 below invoice.
After all these years, I wouldn't be surprised if dealers and carmakers would have already worked out a 2-pricing system; one - an "invoice" price - for the buying public and another, the real transaction price, between themselves.
I have no reason to lie about my deal. Am offering riverside an alternative option based on my experience. Here is the actual internet salesman's reply on Jan 30 to my single inquiry. Of course I could have just typed this up but why would I go to the trouble? Anyway I'm done talking about it.
Subject: Gunn Honda-Accord EXL-V6 2004
Hello, thank you for the inquiry. Since we are a one price dealership, you get to see our very best price up front. This way you do not have to go through the hassles and frustrations of negotiating. We are the South Texas volume leader, and I assure you we did not get that way by charging more for our vehicles. I am also paid salary per unit. I make the same whether you buy a 2,000 dollar car, or a 30,000 car. This way my focus is on your needs and not on my own. I trust you agree this is a better way to do business.
Xxxx, you inquired at a great time. Our owner just dropped all of our prices yesterday. We have the 2004 Accord EXL-V6 for only 22,250!! This price DOES include destination!! Online it shows 24,254, because we cannot advertise prices below cost. The suggested price is 26,890! The 22,250 price with tax, title, and license, is only 23,872.68! This is your out the door price. These prices will not last long. Please contact me as I will be your point of contact during this purchase.
I got mine for $400 below invoice, but then the dealer added on a $499 "administrative fee" so in effect I paid $99 over invoice. And I bought on the last day of the month, at closing time, with the internet sales person.
From reading these boards it looks like this may not be the best deal, but I'm not unhappy with it. The Accord EX-L really feels like a $30K car.
I got quotes from four other dealers and each one added a $499 admin fee. Each one also said that this was not negotiable. So rather than knocking my head trying to fight this, I bought from the internet sales man with the lowest below invoice quote and who also seemed the most knowledgable and the least jerky. I also got a fair offer on my trade, so overall I am very happy.
My observation is that car dealers today seem to rely a great deal on the so called "administrative fee". This is obviously pure profit for them, and I think if you don't have a trade you could probably negotiate this fee down or eliminate it. My attitude is that car dealers are a business so I don't mind paying a few hundred dollars to them if what I get back is a good car and excellent buying experience. I think being exposed to so many sleezy car salesmen and negative experiences during my shopping softened me up to accept the admin fee. I was like "Wow, a nice, professional salesman! Here, take my money!"
As for the Accord, what an incredible car. Love the XM radio... you actually get several free channels without signing up, so that might be good enough for me. Thought about getting the Navi but couldn't justify paying $2,000 more when I can get a handheld PDA that does most of the same things for $600 at Radio Shack.
You do receive free sample channels with the XM but they alternate the stations so one day you might have stations you like and then the next day you have gospel live and folk music. It's well worth the monthly charge to have access to all of the XM channels.
well - the dealer is quoting 19200 for a 2003 EX + other fees VS. 19000 OUT THE DOOR for 2004 LX.....please help me - I have been scrw@d before when I bought a used car....
ASPESISTEVE - I am new around here - but these are the prices...maybe you have some incentive to lie - maybe you are a car dealer or something - I know what I am quoted - and if you want to bet some money - I can show you the paperwork - keep in mind - the EX 2003 price is WITHOUT taxes and paper-work...as for the 2004 LX price is WITH TAXES - OUT THE DOOR.....
I'd be curious to hear from ISELL as to how a new Accord EXL V6 can be sold for $2,400 below invoice. Is it possible that the dealer made any $$ on this deal? There must of been some incentive for this dealer to blow them out at that price.
inspectoring: I don't recall commenting on your deal - so you can save your comments for someone else.
The dealer must have been right on the cusp of making a sales quota that enabled them to receive some sort of incentive or allotments of more profitable vehicles such as the Pilot or Odyssey.
Hello all, Great forum. I am doing the calling the internet manager and getting some decent quote. The lowest I got so far is $22,610 + tax for the basic EX-L. Can I get better deal? They will not go to invoice or below invoice. I asked for the lowest price they can give me and that's what they gave me. I did not bargain more after they quote me on that price. Should I bargain for lower number? First time buying new so very nervous. Also, just received a call from one of a dealer and he said the price I am getting is unmatch by them. It seems like I can't get the price that everone is paying in the forum. Maybe the demand is greater in Colorado.
Inspectoring, don't forget to check out the Edmunds TMV (True Market Value). That will give you a starting point. (Click on the blue USED tab above, then the TMV symbol, then follow the links from there.)
Not so fast. My deal was not $2,400 under invoice as you somehow concluded. The price in the response from the dealer was clearly $22,250 or $1,994 below invoice. Normal TT&L(including only a $50 processing fee) put the drive off price at $23,873. I politely declined the protection package and the upsell "5 year" warranty. As I said in my original post, it was my easiest car purchase in 30 years of ownership.
rukku_pr: I'm also looking for a 2004 EX 4dr Leather V4 AT in Milwaukee area. Which dealer gave you such a great deal ($21,400)? Thanks in advance. -dan
Thanks very much guys for your support. I moved yesterday and am now a proud owner of a 2004 Honda Accord 4Door Sedan EX-L V6 AT.
Thanks jmax for the alert, but i couldn't for the life of me get a deal that even came close; besides San Anotonio is like 3 hours so i didn't want to get into that. You got an incredible deal on that car.. I've never heard ANYONE get better. Congratulations.
The dealer didn't have a car without options.. (seems like they all try to force the dealer extras onto the buyer). We finally found a Desert Mist with tint, paint and splash guards and 2.4 miles on it.
Dealer wanted $400 over invoice claiming the car had dealer installed stuff. I told him i didn't want that stuff in the first place, but since my wife was ok with tinted windows i'd still take this one if he matched the $24,000.
He checked out my trade-in.. low-balled me for some, did the let-me-talk-to-my-manager dance a few times and finally we agreed on an OTD of $22,000.
So MSRP = $26,890 Invoice = $24,244 Edmunds TMV = $24,963 I paid OTD $22,000.
To figure out what I paid for the car minus TTL and dealer fees I used the average value i was quoted for my car from outside this dealership which was $3500.
so working backwards.. i paid around $300 to $350 below invoice.
Not the best of deals but we're happy with our new car and the price we paid.
Congrats on making a good deal that you're happy with. You will really enjoy the car. I especially like the XM radio since the one jazz station in Austin just went off the air. Can't seem to stay away from the comedy channels either, though one of them isn't suitable for all listeners.
I can vouch for jmaxe's claims of his excellent deal through Gunn Honda.
At the end of January, I too almost bought a car (2004 Accord Coupe V6 6MT) at this dealership when they called to ask me if I'd be interested in the car, even though it was black. I was looking for a white or silver one.
The non-negotiable price was $22,250 plus TTL. The dealership was probably charging this price on all their EX V6 Accords. I didn't buy because I hated the black with the black interior. Even though the price was great, I knew the satisfaction of getting a great deal would be forgotten and I would be living with the car year after year, hating the color.
I heard the reason Gunn Honda was selling at these prices was because previously they were the #1 Honda sales leader in the area until Fernandez Honda had their grand opening and starting beating Gunn. Fernandez' prices were competitive with Gunn's and Fernandez was also adding a 5/60K Honda Care warranty. That's when Gunn had their killer end-of-January sale.
I'm thinking whatever Honda gives Gunn for being the #1 sales leader probably makes up for the loss the dealership absorbed by selling these cars for $22,250. My problem is that I'm still in the market for buying a car and I'll probably never get this kind of a deal again. Such is the price of being picky, I guess.
isellhondas, I had a question I was hoping you could answer. I may be moving to Washington state and was wondering if Accords are being sold there at around invoice. I'm in San Antonio right now and it seems it's pretty easy to get an at-invoice price here. Just wondering if it would be best to buy here or up there. Thanks.
Why do you insist on saying my deal was $2,400 below invoice? Go back and read my post #4015 and you'll have all the information there is. I don't know about CA but in Texas the EX-V6 invoice price of $24,244 includes destination. I'll never know why the dealer quoted me such a low price. I would have paid $1,000 more and still thought it was a great deal. I have nothing to brag about because I didn't even negotiate. I took the salesman's "no haggle" price as fast as I could before he changed his mind(or caught his mistake?).
I haven't been called an outright liar on this board but I feel like that's the point some posters have tried to make. I've provided all the numbers (including the salesman's email quote) and yet some still insist on misrepresenting the deal. Thanks for speaking up. I remember your post from early Feb when you had a similar quote from Gunn Honda. Sorry you couldn't take advantage of it but I would have also walked away rather than buy the wrong color. Good luck in finding the right car at a great price.
Don't worry about what others may say. If they're skeptical, it simply reinforces the fact you got such a great deal. I don't feel too bad about not buying the black car. I looked around and every single V6 6MT Coupe in San Antonio was black, except for one red one at Gillman. I guess I'm not the only guy who doesn't want a black one here, either.
I am interested in seeing what people are paying for the 6-speed V-6 Coupe. The local dealership is still saying they are rare, hard to find so price is close to MSRP. Thank you.
Yes, depending on inventory levels, a person can buy Accords in Washington for around invoice.
I read, with interest, the tales of 2000.00 or whetever below invoice pricing.
I guess I wonder WHY a dealer would sell a hot selling car and be willing to lose massive amounts of money. Does this make any sense?
Becoming the Number One dealer in the state (like we are)does not give a dealer an additional discount on the cars they sell. It only gives them the recognition of that accomplishment and the right to state so in their ads.
Trying to "buy" a first place title, in my opinion, would be a very dumb and expensive thing to do.
Like I said before, they COULD give their cars away if they wanted to.
I'm the guy who has to deal with the customers who read these forums and expect to meet or beat these unreal prices.
What I'm stating aren't "tales" or "unreal prices." Gunn Honda most certainly was selling Accord EX-V6s for $22,250 at the end of January and as has already been pointed out, this price was non-negotiable. The cars had this price clearly marked on them, available for all to see.
If you remain skeptical, give them a call and verify these prices. As to why Gunn was selling these cars at this price, I have no idea; I'm not in the industry and am only relaying what I was told.
We purchased from John Eagle. The Internet price was pretty good ($24333 +TTL.) I did not have a trade so the $24333 was it. We purchased a V6 with the 6speed from James Hill (Internet Manager). James has been great.
I also sent an email to John Eagle with some concerns over wording on the purchase agreement. There is a Vehicle Inventory Tax that does not seem fair. There response was a refund for the VIT! Pretty cool!
I have used their service as my windshield was not seated properly on the new car. Service team was pretty good ... just keep an eye on them. My deck spoiler was not installed quite right, but they fixed it immediately. I'd still recommend their service, but just double check their work.

Most guys on the lot wouldn't dare quote a price without sitting you down and debriefing you before going to the boss for a price.
At that time, I got 2 offers:
So, if a dealer has twenty silver LX Accords without side bags and one with them he may hold out a bit for a higher price knowing the right buyer will come along.
Is $24,000 +TTL a good price for an EX-L V6 AT Sedan in Houston TX? Have people been able to get much lower and how?
with so few options, it really minimizes the gamesmanship that dealers can play.
As long as the dealer doesn't try to add extra fees on the backside, you're good to go.
Cheers,
Johnny

riverside was quoted a EXL V6- big difference in my book.
I also notice no one commented on your deal because it's a little hard to believe.
I suppose they threw in the destination charge as well which would really make it $2,400 under invoice.

I am sort of thinking between 2003 EX and 2004 LX as my budget is pretty low.
thanks a lot guys....and yes - I do envy those who can afford EX-L...that is truly a dream car !
I'd have to say amaizing as well.
Maybe I'll fly to Houston and break the thing in and see the country on my way back to the Bay Area. Or for $500 bucks pay to have it shipped here.

However, would someone still tell me what I should pay for a 2003 accord EX? PLEASE?
Thanks guys...

so working backwards.. i paid around $300 to $350 below invoice.
Not the best of deals but we're happy with our new car and the price we paid.
jmaxe
You're the first person I've ever heard who didn't have to pay the destination charge.
Would you advise we negotiate against paying a destination charge?
I'm not a car salesman trying to negate your deal; just a buyer who expects to negotiate a "good" deal, what ever that is.
I suppose they could simply give the car away for free if they wanted to.
I know a lot of people read these forums and get very frustrated when they can't match some of these "deals".
Kind of a Catch-22, isn't it?
Meanwhile, I can appreciate how some of these numbers makes your job very challenging.
Thanks.
Thank you.
If you remain skeptical, give them a call and verify these prices. As to why Gunn was selling these cars at this price, I have no idea; I'm not in the industry and am only relaying what I was told.
I know our GM would have opened our checkbook and bought out their entire inventory and paid for shipping.
The question remains...WHY????
I also sent an email to John Eagle with some concerns over wording on the purchase agreement. There is a Vehicle Inventory Tax that does not seem fair. There response was a refund for the VIT! Pretty cool!
I have used their service as my windshield was not seated properly on the new car. Service team was pretty good ... just keep an eye on them. My deck spoiler was not installed quite right, but they fixed it immediately. I'd still recommend their service, but just double check their work.
Hope this is useful!
