You can get as low as 1.9% financing for 3 years on all '04 Accords. 1.9% for 3 years, 2.9% for 4 years, 3.9% for up to 5 years, through 3/1/04. It's all clearly spelled out on Honda's website
  • thepolthepol Member Posts: 2
johnny420 -- Thanks for the response! I've seen the Honda site. I read that someone got 2.99% from Honda for 5 years. Just wanted to check if this was real.

I was leaning towards the Navi but these seem to be in short supply and dealers are not eager to discount them much (at least in my area). I also learned that you can buy a portable PDA or laptop that does pretty much the same thing as the Honda $2,000 Navi for around $1,000. The built in speech recognition on the Accord is nice (love how it works with the a/c), but having a PDA Navi that I could take with me out of the car would be cool also. So would pocketing that extra $1,000.

I live in Central PA also, and just bought a V6 EX at a very good price. I sugget Fairfield Honda in Pennsdale, and I suggest to avoid Independence Honda in Bloomsburg (and others have agreed with this assessment).
Call Burne Honda (in Scranton) and get an internet quote. They did not respond to my email, but gave me a phone quote at $140 over invoice. I took this quote with me to Fairfield and did the deal, which they matched. Fairfield I thought was a good, fair dealership whom I was happy to do businness with.

That's my experience. Good luck. However, you should be able to get a deal a few hundred less than the Edmunds TMV is you get multiple quotes before going to the dealer you hope to buy from.

jrock65> In your initial "email/FAX attack", did
jrock65> you specify that you did not want any
    jrock65> add-ons?

I'm not quite sure of what you mean by add-ons. I simply asked for Dealer bids on the "2004 Accord LX 4 DR Sedan 4 cyl 5 spd AT with Dual Side Airbags (CM5644EW)."

I specified my preferred choice in color, my acceptable color alternatives and my unacceptable color alternatives.

I asked each dealer to also tell me if the vehicle they were offering included any dealer installed options AT NO ADDITIONAL COST. Also to let me know if their dealership included other extras along with a purchase (i.e. free car washes, free oil changes, free VA safety inspections)if any.

If you want a copy of my "request for bid" just send me an email at music-boy@lycos.com and I'll send it to you.

jrock65> Also, a minor correction: EX V6 MSRP including
jrock65> destination is $26,890 and Invoice is $24,244

You are correct. I forgot to add in the $490 destination charge to my MSRP and Invoice figures.

Get the navi system. It not only finds restaurants, but gas stations, honda dealers, hospitals, city halls, etc. It also has a cool trip computer and snazzy calculators with conversion features. It also has a calander/schedule function which my wife loves. The voice activated commands for directions, temp, stereo and other functions are awesome. The integrated xm radio with readouts on the navi screen of station, artist and song title is not to be missed. It even has a go home setting which will take you home from anywhere.

You will love it. It will provide hours and hours of entertainment while you travel. Find a friend or family member to demonstrate its cool features for you and you'll be hooked. Even if you think it is an expensive option now, if you travel a lot, you will be sorry if you don't get it, especially after you see how elegantly it operates and fulfills needs/wants you didn't know you had.

    1) does anyone know when the 2005 accords come out so i can get the best deal on a 2004?

    2) about what month does honda give cash rebates? so far i just see finance and leasing specials

    3) when is the 2005 hibrid accord due?

    thanks
  • johnny420johnny420 Member Posts: 473
You can get excellent deals on '04 Accords right now.
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
Honda rarely offers cash rebates. Their incentives are almost always low-rate interest or lease financing.
  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
    what's up with rebates?
    I hate them
it's just a stupid ploy to hold onto your cash for a bit longer or get you to concede it for cheap financing. No one offers rebates PLUS low financing it's always either or.
  • nw1997nw1997 Member Posts: 227
    Aspesisteve,

There are companies that offer 0% plus cash backs. For example in the NYC area, Chrysler/Dodge is offering 0% for 60 months plus up to $2,500, it's like they are paying folks to buy there vehicles. Then I remember Toyota offered $400.00 cash back for recent college grads, plus 0%. Honda believes that offering cash backs and 0% makes the book value of there vehicles less over time. The last cash back from Honda that I could recall was on the Civic's in the early 90's, in which they gave $200.00 back for recent college grads. Take for example if you looked at KBB.com and compared a 2003 XLE V6 Camry w/Nav to a 2003 EX V6 Accord w/Nav the Accord is about $2,000.00 more valued in the trade in. Honda keeps there value in the long run, so those who own a Honda, especially a Pilot, Accord or Odyssey can feel confident that depreciation will not hurt as much compared to other Manufacturers.

    Just my two Cents :-)
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
The key to a company's avoiding rebates is building better cars. In the final analysis, the best cars remain in strong enough demand that they don't need gimmicks to be sold.

I believe rebates started after price controls were imposed in the early 1970's. The possibility of price caps later encouraged manufacturers to maintain higher official prices than market prices which were what people paid after receiving their rebates.

Nowadays, the rebates for small items like computers, etc. allow sellers to promote lower, after-rebate prices than what many people actually pay because many buyers don't bother sending in all the invoice copies, bar codes, etc. needed to collect their rebates.

When I bought my '04 Accord last August, it was comforting to know that I was buying an excellent car at a fair price and that there was nothing I needed to do to finally arrive at that fair price......Richard

Everyone, I'm very pleased with my deal for an Accord 4 door, EX V6 in desert mist plus 2 dealer options:

    Vehicle: $23,181.00
    Fog lights (installed) 595.00
    Moonroof Visor (installed)189.00
    Processing fee 299.00
    Va State Tax (3%) 727.92
Pr. William Co. tax (.12%) 28.76
    Va Tags & Title 39.50
    GRAND TOTAL $25,060.18

Additionally they added in the appearance package of locking lug nuts, pin striping (Honda), molding, mud guards and one other item(?). Considering the Edmunds' invoice price for this vehicle, without the moonroof & fog lights is 24,244 + tax I'm really pleased. Shopped by the Internet and this deal was $500 lower than anyone, acutally other dealers told me this could not be true -- but it is! I purchased from Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, VA. Find their site on the Internet and shoot them an email. Plus I used Honda financing for a 60 month loan at 3.9%. There may be better deals out there but I'm a happy camper!

Great deal! And, I really like desert mist. Many happy miles.

I am going to purchase an Accord and S2000 at the same time very soon. I searched the archives and could not find anything on this, so here goes.

I can buy the S2000 for $30,500 with my trade almost straight across and lease the Accord V6 for about $290 a month with very little drive off. Or I can trade and get the Accord and plow the extra $6,000 into the bank and lease the S2000 at $410 a month. Both leases are 36 with no cap. Overall, leasing the accord and buying the S2000, comes to a total outlay of $58,000 if the Accord is bought at the end, $60k if the S2000 is leased then bought. What are your thoughts on each decision? I am considering things like residual, ability to sell either car 2-3 years down the road, etc... I put about 7-10k a year on them.
  • lightisrightlightisright Member Posts: 1
I just bought a new '04 LX automatic for my soon to be wife.

    $18,150 + tax (6.75%)+ title/license = $19,500 otd, msrp was $20,560. I think that was ~$410 under invoice. 2.9% for 4 yrs.

I feel this was a good deal after reading the posts here, they really helped.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,200
Usually, if one is open to leasing, I always recommend leasing an Accord, instead of buying it. If the mileage use matches the lease, it is just too good a deal to pass up. That said, if you are only going to drive 7K-10K per year, you are paying for some depreciation you aren't using.

Your best bet is probably buying both of them. If you think you'll be getting rid of one of them in 3 years (and I'm guessing it would be the S2000), and you are intent on leasing one, I think I would lease the S2K. The resale market for that model could fluctuate a lot depending on time of year, etc. Leasing would make take that problem out of the equation. Selling the Accord would not be a problem at any time. Lots of potential buyers for that one.

    regards,

Just got a NEW 2003 EX-V6 Coupe with 6-speed and NAVI system for $23,000. Included wheel locks and mud guards. MSRP was $28,460. Love the tranny, the GPS navi, the 17" rims etc...

That strikes me as being an insanely good deal. What's MSRP on that car, like $28,400?

    Enjoy your new car!

Looking at your post regarding your Accord Coup, we both got close to the same deal from Henderick Honda. I worked with a salesman who is a former police officer. No pressure at all, advised me not to go for the paint and undercoating protection. He was really nice guy, I'm not sure I've ever said that about a car salesman!

The service plan offer sounded interesting for $975 (all Honda maintenance for 3 years or 45,000 miles) because Landmark has charged me at least that much on my Odyssey (2000 EX), however from my location I just don't think it's convenient enough to take to them for service.

They also offered me their 7 year/70,000 miles repair coverage for $1,100 with $50 deductible. I told them last year I purchased a 7 year/75,000 mile $0 deductible Honda Care Warranty (you can buy Honda Care warranty as long as your vehicle is still covered under the "new" vehicle warranty) for the Odyssey and paid only $740 - they then dropped the price to $650. I'm thinking about it, but really don't think I need to purchase a warranty for this car -- the electronic sliding doors on the Odyssey were my motivating factor.

I'm shopping for a '04 EX V6 automatic coupe without nav system here in the SF area. One dealer quoted $24,000 including the destination fee, but not including tax and title. Does that sound like a reasonable offer?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Would anyone with fog lights care to comment if they feel the extra money was worth it? How much of a difference do they seem to make? I am looking forward to buying a new Accord sedan, and I am not sure if I want to add them or not.
  • hydra2hydra2 Member Posts: 114
really make the accord look sharp. They may even help a little in foggy conditions. Some pay as much as 550-600 bucks for them (dealer installed). If you are a good negotiator you can perhaps cut the price in half if you buy them with your new accord, instead of later.
  • slawendaslawenda Member Posts: 101
"They may even help a little in foggy conditions."

Just a little? What's the point if they might help just a little? Can anyone elaborate on how much they actually help? Or does everyone agree that they're mostly cosmetic?

How many of you think they make the car look better? I haven't seen too many with them, so I am undecided if they make the car look better or not.
  • serendipserendip Member Posts: 60
I have an 03 EX V6. After 5 months, added the fog lights. At first, I was disappointed - I didn't think they did much. My last car had such lousy headlights, that I needed the fog lights on just to see. The Accord has terrific headlights, and so the difference was minimal. And then I had the opportunity (ha!) to drive in fog and in blowing snow. The difference was amazing. They are very focused lights, and so not needed in normal conditions. But, if you have lots of fog (or blowing snow) like we do here there is a huge difference. I kept turning them off and on, and was really impressed.

I'm so glad I got them, but it took fog to know that for certain.

I don't think they do anything, one way or the other, in terms of how the car looks, but I didn't get them for that.

At my dealer they are ~$530 installed. Since my bumper was being replaced I had the body shop install them, bought them online, and the total was under $300.

    Hope that helps!
  • atlantabennyatlantabenny Member Posts: 735
Fog hovers a foot or so above the road, with that height being the only clear area for illumination. That's why foglights need to be mounted low, and why they don't make much difference on a clear night when the headlights are lighting up everything else.

Which also suggests that the foglights need to be aimed as accurately as the headlights to do their job.

I'm saying what probably a lot of you already know anyway...
  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
    geneta,
I was thinking your salesman was pretty decent by advising you to avoid the paint sealer and undercoat, but how could he recommend a 3 year, 45k mile service plan for $975?!

All I can think of the plan covering is maybe 7 oil changes and a couple of tire rotations. That's worth maybe $300.
  • genetageneta Member Posts: 23
Well, it wasn't the salesman, it was the guy doing the loan papers. I'd have to go back and add up all of service bills we've had over the past three years. I'll bet it's a wash. We didn't have to think to long about it because the dealer is not real convenient to our home our my office. We didn't buy anything extra.

On the fog lights...I may have paid more than I should but I got a great deal...The Fog Lights look very sharp and I'm expecting to use them in bad weather.
  • lawdawgfllawdawgfl Member Posts: 75
I like the look and the utility of the fog lights. I do not like the price though. I have been on ebay and saw the fog lights for anywhere from $130 to $290. The description states they are OEM parts. Any thoughts about getting them on line and having the dealer install them?
  • jmaxejmaxe Member Posts: 198
I've seen where fog lights can't be paired with the outside temperature gauge which is std on my EX-V6. Is this true?
  • firemann1firemann1 Member Posts: 14
I installed the OEM Honda foglights on my 2003 EX V-6. Purchased on ebay for $205 late last summer. It took me about 3 hours to install the foglights and that included cutting the holes in the bumper. The biggest challenge was running the wires under the hood. This was my first experience with the wiring harness and connectors of the 2003 Accord. The wires and connectors are easy to work with - If you know or can figure out some of the tricks with removing the wiring harness connector from the fuse block under the hood. The genuine OEM Honda foglights are a well made kit.

I like the look of the foglights - but more important, I like the light provided by the foglights - in fog or blowing / drifting snow.

Regarding foglights and the outside temperature gauge - if the vehicle has the factory installed temp gauge (on an EX V-6 for example), you can add foglights (personal experience). However, my understanding is if the vehicle does not have the factory installed temp gauge (on an LX for example) the aftermarket OEM foglights and temp gauge "interfere" with one another (I'm thinking there is only one electrical circuit or plug that either the foglights or the temp gauge can be wired to, but not both).

I've noticed the OEM "style" foglights on ebay for the last month or so - note the careful use of words in the ebay listing. The OEM style foglights appear to be an aftermarket competitor to the genuine Honda OEM foglights. However, they appear to be quite similar to the genuine OEM foglights. If anybody has experience with the Honda OEM "style" foglights, available on ebay, campared to the genuine OEM foglights, please share the experience. I needed to replace one of my foglights - it took a rock and broke the glass. Cost $95 for the part.

Hello all... I went to dealer today to get a new EX-L in Redondo Red Pearl.. Tested drive one that had 51 miles on it.. No haggle price of $22,699... According to Edmunds, MSRP is $24,300, Invoice is $21,867 and TMV is $23,082 including destination charge... The sales guy showed me the Invoice for $23,300(including destination charge.. Thinking that I am closed to the TMB, bought the car... Bought it for that price $22,699 + $299 (handling fee) + $1800 (tax) = $24,800... Seems like a good deal base on the TMV.. But reading the information in here make me feel like I just got ripped off.. Is it a good deal?? John Elway will allow you to return within three days.. I will return it.. What should I offer?? What should I try to get?? I got no options on it. Is 51 miles too much for a new car?? What is reasonable? Your response is greatly appreciated.

I just bought an EX V-6 automatic without navi at San Leandro Honda (California, near Oakland). The price was $23,727 including the destination charge. In general I would say they were professional and OK to deal with. I would buy a car there again.

When I was talking with the finance manager, he sold me this service called "touch of class" where they put some stuff on the exterior and some other stuff on the interior every so often for five years. It's protective or something. He seemed to REALLY want me to buy it. He kept lowering the price. Finally it got down to $350 and he threw in a year of oil changes and inspections plus some registration service so if the car gets stolen and scattered across Northern California they can identify the parts. At that point I said OK fine whatever.

Is there any value to a protective coating or is that just a bunch of nonsense?

I'm happy with the deal and I think the car totally rules but I have a sneaking suspicion the coating might not have been the most brilliant purchasing decision I've ever made.
  • ral2167ral2167 Member Posts: 791
if you can return the car within 3 days, go ahead... seems kinda high based on what i'm reading... the invoice they showed you seems out of line with what the actual invoice is... we're looking at the exact same car-- sedan ex-l 4 cylinder for 23400 + destination.... 22699 seems like a bad deal...
  • slawendaslawenda Member Posts: 101
Does anyone know if there are any additional taxes or fees in California, other then the higher sales tax? Are total "out-the-door" prices similar to other states, except for the higher sales tax? I am moving back to California soon, and I am debating buying the car (Accord sedan) in another state versus in California. Please no comments about California other than answering my question!
  • vitovito Member Posts: 7
Sorry.. On Message 3929, I said Invoice was 23,300.. It was actually $22,300 which is the number of Edmunds including Destination charge.. Basically, I got it for $400 over invoice.. Good or bad deal???
  • vitovito Member Posts: 7
If you are looking at 23400+destination, that would be higher than I can get at 22699. Let me know how it turn out. thanks.

I bought a Ex-V6 in Marin County, CA for $24000 including destination. They had already put on a "Protective Package", mouldings around the bumpers, wheel wells and door jambs for $500? Also said that Perma-Plate i.e "Touch of Class, a coating for the paint and also interior surfaces/leather would help keep the paint perfect. Not sure of the price of Perma-Plate but as my new Honda will sit outside, I was interested if anyone had bought this protection, for how much, and if they thought this had some value. Stoked over this Accord.

You got a beautiful, well-equipped car that will give you great service for years at a good price! Quite worrying about the deal and drive that sucker! :)

My wife & I purchased a new (2004) EX-L 4-cyl, 4 dr sedan with Nav and automatic trans yesterday at Ralph Schomp Honda in Denver. Graphite pearl with gray leather interior.

    Price Paid: $23,800
    MSRP: $26,760
    Invoice: $24,124

Also, we got lucky, and the dealer had 2.9% financing for 60 months (Honda Financing).

By my calcs, that is just a little more than $300 under invoice! And, this was a no-haggle price (dealer has set prices).

BTW - my accord was final assembled in Japan. Many of these accords come out of Japan?
  • lawdawgfllawdawgfl Member Posts: 75
Good call on the OEM “style”, I never noticed that before. There is however one seller on e-bay who apparently is a Honda dealer, they are selling the lights for $230, a savings of $90. The details state that they are Honda OEM fog lights. Now to find out how much my dealer will charge to install. I was going to do it myself until I saw the instruction stating to take off the front bumper. Nope, I’ll let them do it.
  • johnny420johnny420 Member Posts: 473
Bag the protective coatings. Get yourself a nice high-grade wax (Zaino or some equivalent) and call it good. All these paint and fabric protectants the dealers try to add on to the sale are only a way for them to pad their profit.

If he's charging you $500 for it, you can bet he didn't pay much more than $50-100. Don't fall for it.

Regarding the pre-tax, license, doc fee price of $22,700, that is exactly what I paid for an EX-L 2.4 Sedan with AT; however, I bought my 2004 car in late August which is 6 months ago. It was a pretty good price at that time. Since then, the transportation charge was raised $30 and my California car is a PZEV (low emission) car which ads $150 to the MSRP and $135 to the invoice, I think. The out-the-door price (total amount of the check I wrote) was $24,876.

Most of the deals I've seen recently are at invoice plus taxes and other fees. An Accord you buy now will be "new" for only 6 months, so your price should reflect about half of what a year-end discount should be.

With respect to California, I think there's a law that prevents the "documentation fee" from exceeding $45. There's also a $5 fee for "tire disposal" or something like that. So if a dealer is charging over $50 for fees in addition to tax and license, it should be considered PURE PROFIT in those states where dealers can charge anything for "documentation."........Richard

vito> I went to dealer today to get a new EX-L
vito> in Redondo Red Pearl... No haggle price of

vito> $24,300, Invoice is $21,867 and TMV is
    vito> $23,082 including destination charge.

I can do the math for you to tell you what the dealer paid for the vehicle. Using those figures the True Dealer cost including destination charge is Invoice (22,357) minus Hold back ($729)which equals $21,628. You can use this figure to negotiate from.

Depending on the supply & demand equation for Accords in your area you might purchase one for $200 to $300 above this number (including dealer handling fee but not including Tax, Tags & Title). In a very competitive environment you possibly can buy the car for below this number

    vito> Bought it for $22,699 + $299 (handling
    vito> fee) + $1800 (tax) = $24,800...Bought it
    vito> for that price $22,699 + $299 (handling
    vito> fee) + $1800 (tax) = $24,800... Is it a
    vito> good deal?

I'm not an expert of the prices in your area but thats why I supplied you with the formula above however I did check another service like Edmunds with regard to an Accord 4dr Sedan EX-L 4cyl 5AT (CM5684JNW) and they suggest target pricing at $22,557 (inc dest). Both of these service use averages to compute these target prices. So it is really just a guide. However it would seem from using these formulas that there is money still left on the table.

vito> John Elway will allow you to return within
vito> three days.. I will return it.. What
vito> should I offer?? What should I try to get?

Use the formulas above to determine what counter offer to make. Call another dealer in you area (ask for the Internet Department) and ask them if they will accept your lower offer (Don't explain just tell them the car you want and tell them what you are offering to buy it for). Then you can tell the first dealer that you have a lower offer from another dealer that will probably motivate them into lowering the price to what you want. Otherwise return it (since you say they allow that) and shop for the same car again this time with multiple dealers by requesting bids over the Internet in an email/Fax attack.

Good Luck. Let us know how you make out.

$18,450 including destination charge, no sales tax, put down $2000, used the 48 months @2.9% for $368/mo
This is below TMV, am very happy with it.

Hey Everyone- new to the board but I have been keeping up with the posts and have found them to be VERY helpful!
I have decided on an 04 Accord LX AT (no extra options)for my first new car and went for my second test drive this weekend. I test drove a Coupe but I am not sure if I want the 2 or 4 door yet. I was quoted a price with out any negotiation of $17,999 OTD. I am sure that with a little haggling I could have gotten it even lower but I knew I wasn't ready to buy the car just yet. I thought that this was a really good price considering that I didn't have to haggle and the salesman was very nice and didn't pressure me at all.
    What do you think?
Also- I want the side airbags but I have noticed that very few dealers have them on the LX and of those dealerships that do have them, they only have 2-3 on the lot. Of course they always say that they can "find" one for me but I know that it's better to go to the dealer that has it on the lot and buy from them to avoid paying the delivery charge. Any suggestions?

Question for all the smart people here: Through our local credit union, we can buy new Accords for $300 over invoice. I'm interested in an 04 LX-4cyl automatic, which according to their numbers would cost me about $18800 before taxes, fees, etc.

There is also a local dealer that has an '03 model with 10,000 miles on it asking about $17800 (before any haggling). This is a Honda Certified car and so it carries their 7yr, 100k power train warranty.

So my question is, which is a better deal? The new one with 0 miles and regular factory warranty, or the '03 with 10k miles, remaining factory warranty and extended power train warranty for roughly $1000 less?

    Any thoughts?
