Call Burne Honda (in Scranton) and get an internet quote. They did not respond to my email, but gave me a phone quote at $140 over invoice. I took this quote with me to Fairfield and did the deal, which they matched. Fairfield I thought was a good, fair dealership whom I was happy to do businness with.
That's my experience. Good luck. However, you should be able to get a deal a few hundred less than the Edmunds TMV is you get multiple quotes before going to the dealer you hope to buy from.
jrock65> you specify that you did not want any
jrock65> add-ons?
I'm not quite sure of what you mean by add-ons. I simply asked for Dealer bids on the "2004 Accord LX 4 DR Sedan 4 cyl 5 spd AT with Dual Side Airbags (CM5644EW)."
I specified my preferred choice in color, my acceptable color alternatives and my unacceptable color alternatives.
I asked each dealer to also tell me if the vehicle they were offering included any dealer installed options AT NO ADDITIONAL COST. Also to let me know if their dealership included other extras along with a purchase (i.e. free car washes, free oil changes, free VA safety inspections)if any.
If you want a copy of my "request for bid" just send me an email at music-boy@lycos.com and I'll send it to you.
jrock65> Also, a minor correction: EX V6 MSRP including
jrock65> destination is $26,890 and Invoice is $24,244
You are correct. I forgot to add in the $490 destination charge to my MSRP and Invoice figures.
You will love it. It will provide hours and hours of entertainment while you travel. Find a friend or family member to demonstrate its cool features for you and you'll be hooked. Even if you think it is an expensive option now, if you travel a lot, you will be sorry if you don't get it, especially after you see how elegantly it operates and fulfills needs/wants you didn't know you had.
2) about what month does honda give cash rebates? so far i just see finance and leasing specials
3) when is the 2005 hibrid accord due?
thanks
I hate them
it's just a stupid ploy to hold onto your cash for a bit longer or get you to concede it for cheap financing. No one offers rebates PLUS low financing it's always either or.
There are companies that offer 0% plus cash backs. For example in the NYC area, Chrysler/Dodge is offering 0% for 60 months plus up to $2,500, it's like they are paying folks to buy there vehicles. Then I remember Toyota offered $400.00 cash back for recent college grads, plus 0%. Honda believes that offering cash backs and 0% makes the book value of there vehicles less over time. The last cash back from Honda that I could recall was on the Civic's in the early 90's, in which they gave $200.00 back for recent college grads. Take for example if you looked at KBB.com and compared a 2003 XLE V6 Camry w/Nav to a 2003 EX V6 Accord w/Nav the Accord is about $2,000.00 more valued in the trade in. Honda keeps there value in the long run, so those who own a Honda, especially a Pilot, Accord or Odyssey can feel confident that depreciation will not hurt as much compared to other Manufacturers.
Just my two Cents :-)
I believe rebates started after price controls were imposed in the early 1970's. The possibility of price caps later encouraged manufacturers to maintain higher official prices than market prices which were what people paid after receiving their rebates.
Nowadays, the rebates for small items like computers, etc. allow sellers to promote lower, after-rebate prices than what many people actually pay because many buyers don't bother sending in all the invoice copies, bar codes, etc. needed to collect their rebates.
When I bought my '04 Accord last August, it was comforting to know that I was buying an excellent car at a fair price and that there was nothing I needed to do to finally arrive at that fair price......Richard
Vehicle: $23,181.00
Fog lights (installed) 595.00
Moonroof Visor (installed)189.00
Processing fee 299.00
Va State Tax (3%) 727.92
Pr. William Co. tax (.12%) 28.76
Va Tags & Title 39.50
GRAND TOTAL $25,060.18
Additionally they added in the appearance package of locking lug nuts, pin striping (Honda), molding, mud guards and one other item(?). Considering the Edmunds' invoice price for this vehicle, without the moonroof & fog lights is 24,244 + tax I'm really pleased. Shopped by the Internet and this deal was $500 lower than anyone, acutally other dealers told me this could not be true -- but it is! I purchased from Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, VA. Find their site on the Internet and shoot them an email. Plus I used Honda financing for a 60 month loan at 3.9%. There may be better deals out there but I'm a happy camper!
I can buy the S2000 for $30,500 with my trade almost straight across and lease the Accord V6 for about $290 a month with very little drive off. Or I can trade and get the Accord and plow the extra $6,000 into the bank and lease the S2000 at $410 a month. Both leases are 36 with no cap. Overall, leasing the accord and buying the S2000, comes to a total outlay of $58,000 if the Accord is bought at the end, $60k if the S2000 is leased then bought. What are your thoughts on each decision? I am considering things like residual, ability to sell either car 2-3 years down the road, etc... I put about 7-10k a year on them.
$18,150 + tax (6.75%)+ title/license = $19,500 otd, msrp was $20,560. I think that was ~$410 under invoice. 2.9% for 4 yrs.
I feel this was a good deal after reading the posts here, they really helped.
Your best bet is probably buying both of them. If you think you'll be getting rid of one of them in 3 years (and I'm guessing it would be the S2000), and you are intent on leasing one, I think I would lease the S2K. The resale market for that model could fluctuate a lot depending on time of year, etc. Leasing would make take that problem out of the equation. Selling the Accord would not be a problem at any time. Lots of potential buyers for that one.

The service plan offer sounded interesting for $975 (all Honda maintenance for 3 years or 45,000 miles) because Landmark has charged me at least that much on my Odyssey (2000 EX), however from my location I just don't think it's convenient enough to take to them for service.
They also offered me their 7 year/70,000 miles repair coverage for $1,100 with $50 deductible. I told them last year I purchased a 7 year/75,000 mile $0 deductible Honda Care Warranty (you can buy Honda Care warranty as long as your vehicle is still covered under the "new" vehicle warranty) for the Odyssey and paid only $740 - they then dropped the price to $650. I'm thinking about it, but really don't think I need to purchase a warranty for this car -- the electronic sliding doors on the Odyssey were my motivating factor.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
Price paid: $20226.23
Out the door.
Just a little? What's the point if they might help just a little? Can anyone elaborate on how much they actually help? Or does everyone agree that they're mostly cosmetic?
How many of you think they make the car look better? I haven't seen too many with them, so I am undecided if they make the car look better or not.
I'm so glad I got them, but it took fog to know that for certain.
I don't think they do anything, one way or the other, in terms of how the car looks, but I didn't get them for that.
At my dealer they are ~$530 installed. Since my bumper was being replaced I had the body shop install them, bought them online, and the total was under $300.
Hope that helps!
Which also suggests that the foglights need to be aimed as accurately as the headlights to do their job.
I'm saying what probably a lot of you already know anyway...
I was thinking your salesman was pretty decent by advising you to avoid the paint sealer and undercoat, but how could he recommend a 3 year, 45k mile service plan for $975?!
All I can think of the plan covering is maybe 7 oil changes and a couple of tire rotations. That's worth maybe $300.
On the fog lights...I may have paid more than I should but I got a great deal...The Fog Lights look very sharp and I'm expecting to use them in bad weather.
I like the look of the foglights - but more important, I like the light provided by the foglights - in fog or blowing / drifting snow.
Regarding foglights and the outside temperature gauge - if the vehicle has the factory installed temp gauge (on an EX V-6 for example), you can add foglights (personal experience). However, my understanding is if the vehicle does not have the factory installed temp gauge (on an LX for example) the aftermarket OEM foglights and temp gauge "interfere" with one another (I'm thinking there is only one electrical circuit or plug that either the foglights or the temp gauge can be wired to, but not both).
I've noticed the OEM "style" foglights on ebay for the last month or so - note the careful use of words in the ebay listing. The OEM style foglights appear to be an aftermarket competitor to the genuine Honda OEM foglights. However, they appear to be quite similar to the genuine OEM foglights. If anybody has experience with the Honda OEM "style" foglights, available on ebay, campared to the genuine OEM foglights, please share the experience. I needed to replace one of my foglights - it took a rock and broke the glass. Cost $95 for the part.
When I was talking with the finance manager, he sold me this service called "touch of class" where they put some stuff on the exterior and some other stuff on the interior every so often for five years. It's protective or something. He seemed to REALLY want me to buy it. He kept lowering the price. Finally it got down to $350 and he threw in a year of oil changes and inspections plus some registration service so if the car gets stolen and scattered across Northern California they can identify the parts. At that point I said OK fine whatever.
Is there any value to a protective coating or is that just a bunch of nonsense?
I'm happy with the deal and I think the car totally rules but I have a sneaking suspicion the coating might not have been the most brilliant purchasing decision I've ever made.
You got a beautiful, well-equipped car that will give you great service for years at a good price! Quite worrying about the deal and drive that sucker!
Price Paid: $23,800
MSRP: $26,760
Invoice: $24,124
Also, we got lucky, and the dealer had 2.9% financing for 60 months (Honda Financing).
By my calcs, that is just a little more than $300 under invoice! And, this was a no-haggle price (dealer has set prices).
BTW - my accord was final assembled in Japan. Many of these accords come out of Japan?
If he's charging you $500 for it, you can bet he didn't pay much more than $50-100. Don't fall for it.
Johnny
Most of the deals I've seen recently are at invoice plus taxes and other fees. An Accord you buy now will be "new" for only 6 months, so your price should reflect about half of what a year-end discount should be.
With respect to California, I think there's a law that prevents the "documentation fee" from exceeding $45. There's also a $5 fee for "tire disposal" or something like that. So if a dealer is charging over $50 for fees in addition to tax and license, it should be considered PURE PROFIT in those states where dealers can charge anything for "documentation."........Richard
vito> in Redondo Red Pearl... No haggle price of
vito> $22,699. According to Edmunds, MSRP is
vito> $24,300, Invoice is $21,867 and TMV is
vito> $23,082 including destination charge.
I can do the math for you to tell you what the dealer paid for the vehicle. Using those figures the True Dealer cost including destination charge is Invoice (22,357) minus Hold back ($729)which equals $21,628. You can use this figure to negotiate from.
Depending on the supply & demand equation for Accords in your area you might purchase one for $200 to $300 above this number (including dealer handling fee but not including Tax, Tags & Title). In a very competitive environment you possibly can buy the car for below this number
vito> Bought it for $22,699 + $299 (handling
vito> fee) + $1800 (tax) = $24,800...Bought it
vito> for that price $22,699 + $299 (handling
vito> fee) + $1800 (tax) = $24,800... Is it a
vito> good deal?
I'm not an expert of the prices in your area but thats why I supplied you with the formula above however I did check another service like Edmunds with regard to an Accord 4dr Sedan EX-L 4cyl 5AT (CM5684JNW) and they suggest target pricing at $22,557 (inc dest). Both of these service use averages to compute these target prices. So it is really just a guide. However it would seem from using these formulas that there is money still left on the table.
vito> John Elway will allow you to return within
vito> three days.. I will return it.. What
vito> should I offer?? What should I try to get?
Use the formulas above to determine what counter offer to make. Call another dealer in you area (ask for the Internet Department) and ask them if they will accept your lower offer (Don't explain just tell them the car you want and tell them what you are offering to buy it for). Then you can tell the first dealer that you have a lower offer from another dealer that will probably motivate them into lowering the price to what you want. Otherwise return it (since you say they allow that) and shop for the same car again this time with multiple dealers by requesting bids over the Internet in an email/Fax attack.
Good Luck. Let us know how you make out.
$18,450 including destination charge, no sales tax, put down $2000, used the 48 months @2.9% for $368/mo
This is below TMV, am very happy with it.
I have decided on an 04 Accord LX AT (no extra options)for my first new car and went for my second test drive this weekend. I test drove a Coupe but I am not sure if I want the 2 or 4 door yet. I was quoted a price with out any negotiation of $17,999 OTD. I am sure that with a little haggling I could have gotten it even lower but I knew I wasn't ready to buy the car just yet. I thought that this was a really good price considering that I didn't have to haggle and the salesman was very nice and didn't pressure me at all.
What do you think?
Also- I want the side airbags but I have noticed that very few dealers have them on the LX and of those dealerships that do have them, they only have 2-3 on the lot. Of course they always say that they can "find" one for me but I know that it's better to go to the dealer that has it on the lot and buy from them to avoid paying the delivery charge. Any suggestions?
There is also a local dealer that has an '03 model with 10,000 miles on it asking about $17800 (before any haggling). This is a Honda Certified car and so it carries their 7yr, 100k power train warranty.
So my question is, which is a better deal? The new one with 0 miles and regular factory warranty, or the '03 with 10k miles, remaining factory warranty and extended power train warranty for roughly $1000 less?
Any thoughts?
