I just bought a 2004 Honda Accord EX-V6 (no nav) with splash guards and door edge guards for $24000, plus $52 doc fee, 6.75% sales tax, and $143 license/title fee. Bought it in the Chicago area. The dealer was advertising $23695. I told him the add-ons were a bit steep (he originally wanted $24,144), and he agreed. He went to $24000, saying he was certainly making money on them, and that he would sell me any other EX-V6 with no add-ons for the $23695. I really liked the graphite pearl and gray interior, kind of liked the splash guards and door edge guards, and felt it was still one heck of a great price. The car is wonderful!

    Mark12345,
Did the $23695 price include destination charge? Sounds like you got a great deal. Congrats! I am still trying to decide EX-V6 +/- Nav. Would love the hybrid, but I am sure the wait/premium will be high for awhile when it finally arrives.

I bought an EX V6 6speed manual with the Honda Factory Performance.

    24,584 for EX V6 6 Speed (250 over invoice)
     4,400 for HFP & installation
    28,984 + title, tags, tax

The HFP really makes the car look unique. It lowers the ride about 1" with tuned suspension that really lets you take the curves. The wheels and ground effects add interesting lines the coupe's otherwise smooth exterior. If you are going with the 6-speed, check out the HFP.

    tds1,

Yes, the $23695 included destination. Just add tax, doc fee, title/license.

After much research, I am now the owner of a graphite pearl 04 EX cloth 4cyl auto, without curtain airbags, built in Japan. I couldn’t wait any longer for the new Altima or Mazda6 wagon. What pushed me to buy was Honda’s special 2.9% 60mo financing at the end of Feb. This was my first internet purchase & it was my easiest car buying experience ever.

I went to the 3 Vegas dealer websites to get the fleet/internet sales manager e-mail addresses & sent an email to each of them. In the e-mail, I told them I was serious about purchasing that weekend in order to take advantage of the special financing. I said that I would purchase from the first one to reply closest to my offering price of $20,800 for an 04 EX cloth 4cyl auto with curtain airbags in graphite pearl ($209 under invoice).

I got various replies from all 3 dealerships. One just e-mailed me with their standard SAMS Club/internet pricing ($600 over invoice). Another sent back a standard form letter asking how serious I was about buying (they later called & didn’t have my color in an EX). The Honda West internet/fleet sales manager called & said he could match my offer, but only had my color option without curtain airbags.

What I didn’t like was that this dealership pre-installs window tint, pinstriping, door edge guards, body side trim, fenderwell trim, splash guards, wheel locks & cargo tray on each and every one of their cars. I voiced my displeasure, and he said he would include them at his cost + installation. Normally I would walk away from this stuff, but I figured the interest savings would offset the cost. I also got a wing spoiler installed at his cost (a must with that frumpy Accord rear end).

    So, here’s the breakdown:
$20,800 (sales price including destination - $61 over invoice)
    $1,248 (accessories)
$189 (http://www.phantomfootprints.com – installed on all Hondas here)
$399 doc fee (non-negotiable at all dealerships here)
    $22,636 (taxable sales price)
    $1,698 (7.5% Nevada sales tax)
    $28 (title)
    $39 (registration)
    $24,401 (out the door)

If you don’t mind all of the dealer add-ons, I would highly recommend this dealership if you live in Vegas. The internet sales manager was an extremely nice guy, no haggling or trickery. The service department guys are very nice, too.

I figured I’d post this for anyone who isn’t buying an EXV6 (which seems to be very few on this board). It’s not the greatest deal, but not the worst. I wasn’t out to rob them, just wanted a good deal with minimal hassle.

    Is 21800 a goos deal for a 04 Accord EX-L, 2.4, 4cyl?
  • greatlakegreatlake Member Posts: 2
$21800 seems like a good deal. A dealer in Milwaukee asked for $21860. Someone got the car for $21400 (see #4005). I'd like to know the name of the dealer so I'll do business with them.

Dealer quoted me an "out the door" price of $22811.70 for a new LX V-6 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 5A). Is this a good price? Has anyone received a lower total cost? Thanks in advance.
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    the_instigator:

What is IN the "out the door" price that you were quoted? The term "out the door" can mean many things to many people. Is there a trade involved? Are there any dealer installed add-ons? Any dealer "fees" that should be negotiated out? Does the figure include local taxes (different in all parts of the country)?

The total dealer cost of the vehicle that you've described, after removing the $699 dealer holdback, is $20,759. That means that there is an additional $2,052.70 somewhere in your deal. Allowing for a few hundred dollars profit, it would appear that you should be able to do significantly better.
  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
I'm assuming the 'instigator's' price "out the door" includes tax, title and destination. If it were a deal in CA (8.25%tax) it would be a great price.

Hi guys--1st time poster. Great messageboard.
I am looking for a manual 2004 accord ex with navi...grey on black. Is invoice possible on this car?
What should I expect to pay for this car in the tri state area?
Also is there a website to search dealers inventory(searching specifically if a car has manual and nav)
Thank you in advance for your replies.

Two people in a row looking for manuals, and with navi and side airbags yet. Good luck!!! The navi especially should be a challenge.

I was ready to by honda Ex - but got curious and went to the next door Toyota dealer- and saw the camry - please give me something negative about the camry so I can go ahead with EX...
oh - btw - I have been offered 20800 for EX with curtain air bags - OTD - I have been in the market for the longest time and now I think this might be it....I don't think I can possibly do better than this....
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
Both the Camry and Accord are great cars. The Accord does have better performance with it's 5-speed auto/4 cylinder combination and it has much better crash test ratings with side curtains when compared to the Camry. Otherwise it's a matter of preference. The Accord leans towards sporty while the Camry leans towards luxury.
  • atlantabennyatlantabenny Member Posts: 735
Consider the Camry's 1) lower resale, 2) 4 instead of 5 speed automatic (smoother operation, better fuel economy w/5), 3) generic front suspension (Accord has more sophisticated double-wishbone front suspension for better handling and ride), 4) less power (157 vs 160) and 5) engine - not as smooth.

Lastly, you'll have less "new car life" with the Camry; it's older in design by one year.
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
Both cars are excellent, but the Camry LE is a very soft-riding car--typically American--it's a Japanese Buick. You might like that, but I didn't when I test drove both cars.

The Accord rides fairly hard, but the overall feel of the car is sportier and more appealing to some people--certainly for me. The Accord's brakes felt stronger, too.

You'll spend more time looking at the interior of your car than the exterior. In my opinion, the Camry's interior was bland and uninspired--the Accord's electroluminescent guages and other interior fittings were much better.

You won't go wrong with either car, but test them both with the above in mind.......Richard

When we went to pick up the car ex-l, there was small scratches on the car. They will fix it and we will pick it up on Saturday. Is that normal? They said it is. Please advise.
The color is Redondo Red. I think you see more on that color.
  • inspectoringinspectoring Member Posts: 102
here is a new problem...after posting here - I called Toyota and got a quote of ~21800 OTD with all taxes for V6 (yes V6) SE.....now what do I do??? I mean I am sure the V6 is better than EX v4? no?
  • john284john284 Member Posts: 71
Camry got lousy side protection rating, 2 out of 5, if the quote on V6 comes with side curtain airbag, go for it, otherwise, stay with honda.

It is like buying new shoes, Camry fits like a slippers, or sneakers. But Honda feels like a pair of Bostonian, and it will last and make you feel better and better...
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
I like my Honda. Other people, including mechanics like my Honda. There seems to be a lot of customization options for the Honda. If you're looking at a Camry, why not an Avalon? Buy the one you think you will enjoy personally for the longest time after the purchase. That's my $2.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
The V6 Camry will have more power than the 4 cylinder Accord but it runs on premium only which might be a factor with gas prices shooting up as they are. And it still won't offer the side impact protection of the Accord. Drive both and buy the one you like the most not people on Edmunds or other reviewers. We aren't the ones who are going to have to live with the car, you are.

I was trying to find a EX 4 cyl, stick shift with side curtain airbag but no dealers around me carried this config. they told me it would be extremely hard to find it and let alone the navi. system.
  • 96accord96accord Member Posts: 20
It seems like this car is pretty rare as I did call around and nobody seems to have any with the side airbags. I might have to special order one. I was just wondering as Honda does offer cars with Side Airbags why don't they have more in supply as I am sure people would not mind paying $ 300 more for the added protection. I wonder whats on the mind of the Marketing Gurus at Honda. I was thinking about the V6 Se Camry too but decided on the 5 MT Accord Ex as I drove a friends and it has a super smooth gearbox and Engine. Besides V6 cost more to maintain and don't last as long as 4 cyl engines.

Our Accord EX came with side airbags standard. Are these REAR side airbags, or side CURTAIN airbags?

LX V-6 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 5A): The out the door price of $22,811.70 included PA tax (6%) and all other fees. However, I just received an out the door quote of $22,673.40 from another dealer. Thanks for all your input.

I was reading the boards and seen a couple of asking about invoice on a 2004 Accord EX with Navi in the Manuel Trans. I just purchased that same combination about two weeks ago. I paid 200.00 over invoice on the vehicle. If I wanted to be persistent and keep looking I am almost sure I could have purchase one at or below invoice (to me the hassle was not worth it). I found the color I wanted (graphite/gray) and I am extremely happy with the vehicle. If you like driving a MT, you have to get this car. The stick is so sweet. BTW I purchased my accord in northern California at Capitol Honda in San Jose. I know there is a silver/black in the EX with Navi in a MT. It was available when I purchased my vehicle two weeks ago. If you don’t mind the drive or flight it might be worth giving them a shot.

Instigator .. your $22,811 with tax breaks out to about $21520 for the car .. which seems real good. Check Roberts Honda Web Site ... they post Internet prices ...and show LX V-6 automatic for 21,258 but you have to add destination, and taxes
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
Some Accords come with side air bags that pop out from the edge of each front seat back if the car is hit on that side. Side air bags protect the torso area only. I don't believe that there are side air bags in the back seat.

Those torso-level side air bags are nominally protective; however, a recent study showed MUCH greater protection from side CURTAIN air bags that cover front and rear side windows if the car is hit on the side. Curtain air bags protect your head--your BRAIN!
You can identify a Honda Accord with side CURTAIN air bags by looking at the post at the edge of the wind shield ("A" pillar) inside the car. Accords with curtain air bags will say so in a little square stamped into the plastic covering on the A pillar.

If you can, get side CURTAIN air bags because if the worst happens, they might save you....Richard

It's doubtful that many dealers would order any EXL 5 speed Navi Accords due to lack of demand.

Few shoppers want five speeds to begin with. Add a Navi to that and you have a VERY unique car that would appeal to very few.

Dealers order the cars that appeal to the masses.

Still, a car I wouldn't mind owning myself if weren't for my five speed hating wife!
  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
You're not likely to get a very objective answer here from Accord owners. I have a Oddysey and a Lexus and happen to think both products are great. I do prefer the comfort feel of Toyota over the firmer ride of the honda product.

21,800 for the V6 camry OTD?
that's a pretty convincing argument for the Camry if I were on the fence. It definitely takes the resale issue off the table.

Ready to buy 2004 Accord EX-V6, no nav by end of month. I've been quoted $24,144 (includes dest charge) + $284 (doc fees, title, reg, inspection) + MA tax (5%)... now I am emailing other dealerships to see if they can beat this price... It seems like a good price, what do you think??
This is the first time I am purchasing a car by myself, so what else do you think I should do?? Any add-ons (like splash guards) that I could ask?? What should I expect??
I already got an email from another dealership who says they can beat this price, but didn't say what they're offering.
Been reading this forum for a while now. It's a great source.
Am also trading in a Honda Civic 94 4-door LX.
Need some feedback, please. Thanks in advance.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
The only way to get the nav system with a manual transmission is on the EX-L (leather), which already has the side curtain airbags standard (as opposed to the front side airbags). The navi isn't available on the EX with cloth, as far as I know, it's only available on the EX-L and the EX V-6 (which doesn't offer a manual trans). You'll probably have to special order it, as the EX-L with manual is rare, as is the EX-L with navi. Finding one with both 'on the lot' should prove next to impossible.

I don't know where you're located, but Fletcher Jones Imports on North Clark Street has an EX-L 5MT sedan with navi in black, according to the inventory sheet on their website.

Buying this weekend and need to know if this is a good price for a 2004 Honda Accord V6 with Navi.

$26,432 including all destination and handling charges.

I got this offer just by sending over an e-mail. So I could grind them down a bit more in person.

Thank you for your responses guys,

Before setting foot in the lowest-quoting dealership, in my experience it's critical to first have a walk-away mindset if agreed-on terms aren't met.

Surprises could include, among others, pre-installed accessories which you didn't talk about and which you'll be asked to pay, excessive (more than 50) miles on the odo, and a high APR when financing (best to have approved loan; if not, at least know your beacon score).

    You'll probably be offered

    1) extended warranty (one can buy this right before original factory warranty runs out at the same or lower rate; why have a paid "extended" overlap a free "factory" ?) and

    2) "gap" insurance to cover the car note in case regular insurance isn't enough for a suddenly totalled car (no need if your downpayment will cover the drive-out depreciation; otherwise, ask personal insurance company to quote before buying).

Some homework needed, but worth it imo. Hope this helps.

Where did you purchase your EX V6 6Sp coupe with HFP package? How is the ride with the HFP? Do you know if you can you purchase the suspension components separately? What exactly are the suspension mods, and do you have any part numbers?
    Thank You.

I found a dealer with a leftover 03 EX Coupe, V-6, 6-Speed. Does anyone know what dealer incentives are for leftover 03's? What would be a good price? Carsdirect.com lists the price for a 2004 as $24,708,($375 over listed invoice) how much lower should I pay for a 2003?
    Thank You.
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    ego29iste:

Since you have not indicated whether the 2004 V6 Accord with Navigation that you are interested in is a Coupe or a Sedan, here are the total dealer cost figures, including Destination, after removal of dealer Holdback:

Coupe: $25,276 (I'd offer no more than $25,700)
Sedan: $25,189 (I'd offer no more than $25,600)

You mentioned that "handling charges" were in your $26,432 figure. Since that term can mean just about anything to anybody, it's your call. I wouldn't pay anything more than $50 for paper processing though. Best of luck.

So, are you buying the Accord, the Acura CL or the Lexus GS?
  • ego29isteego29iste Member Posts: 45
    Thanks for your response.

I decided to leave the GS out this time around. I am looking at the Accord coupe V6 with Navi.

The Acura I was interested in but the Accord coupe seems to have a better interior and XM radio.

Another dealer (Herb Chambers, Boston, 02125) called to let me know they can beat the $ 26432 price by several hundred dollars. They would not give an exact quote unless I put down a refundable deposit of 500 bucks. Have an appointment to go speak with the Internet Sales Advisor today and I will keep your numbers handy.

I test drove the V6 awhile back and it was very good. I am curious to check out the four cylinder version as well to see if it would suffice in Boston.

Could you also tell me the price for the four cylinder 2004 Accord Coupe EX w/ Nav?
  • mbfjackmbfjack Member Posts: 23
    Thanks.
Before I go in, I will make sure (probably over the phone) if they will have any hidden charges like the ones you mentioned.
I got another email from another dealership saying they'll give me $100 off what I've been offered. Still waiting on the others.
Do you think I've been quoted a good price??
    Thanks again.
  • atlantabennyatlantabenny Member Posts: 735
'welcome. On the new car, you've been quoted $100 below invoice and about $900 below Edmunds' TMV for Boston. So, you're good there (but read further).

On your trade, Edmunds quotes $1400 as trade-in value for a 150k/automatic/good condition sample. In the open market, your LX should fetch about $2100.

This would be my month-end strategy:

    1) New car price: $23,600 including dest. (backed out 3% holdback) plus $284 misc. plus 5% sales tax = $25,080 Gross Out-The-Door
    2) Minus trade: $2,100 (they can still sell the car for $3,300 dealer retail per Edmunds, so they'll still make money on the trade)
    3) Net Out-The-Door: $22,980.00

Agressive? Yes. Unrealistic ? No. The above deal puts you at about $710 below invoice. Others have achieved up to $2000 below (myself, $900).

You may need to adjust the trade-in numbers if 150k miles and good overall condition don't apply; use Edmunds' Used Car appraiser.

If getting financing, and you know your creditworthiness, use the payment calculator link on the top of this page ("financing as low as 3.99%"). With good credit, might as well use 3.99% for APR. If Honda has an APR promo, use that in the calculation.

You'll then have a Monthly Payment Target that has factual base. Shop the dealers in the area; one of them might have excess inventory which they might just let go at your payment target.

Note: While the Monthly Payment Target is my recommended "Walk-Out Price," you might find it interesting to know how, during negotiation, we all can be talked out of our Payment Target. For example, if they say "come on, it's just another $20 to your monthly payment," and you have a 60-month term, the impact to you is $1200 ($20 x 60 months). You'd have given up your purchase goal in that scenario.

    Good luck.
  • jumpnjoejumpnjoe Member Posts: 34
I wasn't as agressive as the post below. I paid 24,695 + 129 fees -1750 trade (1995 Saturn) + 5 % ma tax. I was quoted lower prices by two other dealers (Autofair in Manchester has 24,095 and Bernardi Honda in Natick went to 23,995 through e-mail negotiations. They wanted to give me 500.00 for my trade, so Lundgren Honda in Auburn made the most sense, even though it cost more for the car, with the trade it was about 500 cheaper to go there. Nice thing about going there was no negotiating. there price was what it was and that was it. Good luck. I get my car the end of the week and can't wait.
  • jumpnjoejumpnjoe Member Posts: 34
You should be able to get 3.9 financing for 5 years, 2.9 for 4 years and 1.9 for 3 years although not every dealer may do that. The one that gave me the best price (not counting trade) told me there was no financing special, so they may have been trying to make up the money there.
  • ego29isteego29iste Member Posts: 45
Just finished the paperwork for a 2004 Automatic Accord V6 w/ Navi coupe.

The car cost was 25,500 including handling and destination fees. There was an additional 300 or so for registration and other fees.

I got 10% off for wheel locks and body side protection kit.

Opted in for lo-jack (hope it is worth it?) for 695 bucks.

Out the door price with all that was $28,200.

The dealer was Herbs in Boston.

Hope I did ok, either way done with it. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and tips.

PS: I test drove the 4 cylinder auto, decided to go with the V6. The difference to me in smoothness was worth the additional expense.

paid $24452 for ex-l sedan auto 4 cylinder with nav ...$26700 MSRP.... includes destination, auto day/night mirror, all weather floor mats... simple negotiation...got quotes ranging from 24600 and above... finally just offered 24452 to the dealer which had the car in inventory.... they accepted... may not be the lowest price we could have grounded for, but we're happy.... going to be a chore to figure out the XM radio and navigation..may need help next few days...got the 1.9% financing for 36 months....at first wanted to get green color, but those are SO hard to come by for some reason, ended up with gold which we like very much...

First thank you all for helping me make a decision in buying a car....I have the following

19500 OTD for a 2003 Brand new EX - including ALL TAXES REGISTRATION PLATES ETC....nothing else - no dealer incentives....

I pray to god that I made the right decision - I am scheduled to accept the delivery on Monday....

I have one question - I test drove two cars - first has over 110 miles on it so I refused...the second one had a dead battery - the dealer gave it a boost jump so that I could take it out for a drive...and it was heavenly.....except - the yellow engine light came on - the guy said maybe it was due to a loose gas cap or something - he said he will check it out before giving delivery..should I accept it or get a new one???

    Thanks guys for your input...

My opinion is: The price looks Great! Also, what do they have on the lot as far as choices for that price? Just the two you mentioned, or are there others? If there are others select a different one and test drive it. If it is between these two, my choice would be the one with the 110 miles. Those miles are nothing. Surely just from test driving. My 2002 Accord had something like 140 miles on it when I bought it. Not one problem since. A dead battery and maintenance lights may be nothing, so others may have a different opinion. This is mine. Hope it helps. You are buying a really great car. As I always say; dollar for dollar, it hard to bet a Honda!

Atlantabenny: thank you so much. The financing will not apply because I am doing cash, but I only have $23,000 to work with, and don't want to finance since I have it available. I like your numbers theory... I'd be very happy if I can pull that off. My husband says that I can totally walk out if they don't want at least $2000 for the civic, because, like you said, they're going to make money off of it anyway.

Jumpnjoe: Natick offered you less, so there is evidence there that I can at least ask for less if they are willing to do it for you, then there should be no reason the lowest they can go for me is $24,144... congrats on your new car, what did you get??

I do want to do it towards the end of the month, because it seems that at that time, they are more willing to negotiate my way because of quotas, etc... So guys, cross your fingers... Herb Chambers in Seekonk emailed me and want to talk...
  • inspectoringinspectoring Member Posts: 102
the one with the maintainence lights only had 35 miles on it...and it drove nicer that the 110 miles...but the sales guy said it might be due to loose gas cap or something like that...I don't think I am going to take that one - I am going to request another car.

as far as the shopping experience goes - let me just say - it was the BEST - the dealer/salesman both were very very courteous...he listened to all the negative points about honda (WITHOUT bashing CAMRY - which was my another choice) - and not once did he jump in and cut me off. There was almost no haggling - and the manager was very accomodating as well. The poor salesman spend half an hour in the cold wind to try and jumpstart the car so that I could test drive it.

I will ceratinly recommend this dealer with any hesitation - pm me if you want the name of the manager adn salesman ( as its against the rules to post names here). The name of the dealer was open road honda in edison NJ...they have quite a few 2003's left....I am sure he will give you guys the same deal..
