This is in San Francisco Bay Area. I hope this is good. Anyways, hope it helps.
jrock65> don't mind me asking)
miragesea> Who is this dealer????? Please tell.
I think that it is important to emphasize here that I believe that the only way to get a rock-bottom price on a new vehicle is not just by knowing which dealer gave the lowest price in any specific deal. Instead, it's important to understand the process that achieved that good deal.
I don't know that this process will work in every market around the country but in a large fairly concentrated (an hour drive apart) market like here in the Baltimore-Washington Area (approx 7 and a half million people) with quite a lot of car dealers, it does work.
The key is in knowing what you want to buy and by using email and/or faxs you set up a competitive selling situation amongst dealers forcing them to fight for your business.
Just contacting one or two dealers is not going to get you the best deal. You will have to spend some time compiling dealer Internet department email addresses and fax numbers.
Then when you are ready to buy, you compose a letter to email and/or fax to them telling them that you are accepting bids for the purchase of a specific car (make, model, color, etc.) that you have specified in your letter. Once you get those bids you may or may not wish to further negotiate from there.
I think that before you start this process you should know the True Dealer Cost of the vehicle that you are going to purchase (Invoice price minus Holdback.)That way you have some idea of what the real bottom line is and you can negotiate up from there.
Having said that if you still want to know the dealer I bought the car from just send me an email at music-boy@lycos.com and I will send you the name of the dealer along with other low bidders for my particular deal. However I think to get your best deal you must "work the program."
miragesea> Is it important or not to buy a car
miragesea> from a dealer close to one's home?
miragesea> College Park Honda is closest to my
miragesea> house but they don't have a good reputation.
In my opinion, I don't think that it is paramount to purchase your new vehicle from your neighborhood dealer. Your Honda new car warranty will be honored by any dealer in the US. Especially in our area the population is so transient anyway. People come here (and go) from all over the country to work for the US Government (or a government contractor.)
Just as in your area of College Park there is a huge turnover each year as people come and go from the University of Maryland. They take their cars with them and get them serviced under warranty wherever they go.
I think you have to determine how far is too far for you to go to purchase a new car in order to get the best deal. I was willing to drive up to one hour. As it turned out, the dealer I ultimately purchased from was only about 35 minutes away from my house.
And I empathize with you, my closest neighborhood dealer in Virginia is a "corporate sister" of yours in College Park and they "enjoy" the same reputation.
I was getting the 2004 model for 1500 $ more...- here is the question nobody I know can answer adn I would appreciate your input -
2 to 3 yrs from now - when I decide to trade in my car - would I regret saving this 1500 bucks or it wouldn't matter that much?
thanks guy...

sounds like end of the month/qtr pricing
what city in the Bay Area did you buy your car?
thx
'04 Accord EX V6 Sedan AT:
$23,510 = base price
$619 = factory deck lid spoiler
$165 = window tint w/lifetime warranty (material and labor)
$189 = misc dealer crap (window etch, vehicle prep, etc) (the one part of the deal I regret!)
Total = $24,483 + TTL
I was not interested in the NAVI system. The car had 1.5 miles when I took delivery.
I suppose I may have been able to do a little better on the price if I had more time to work the deal, but alas, as the saying goes, time is money.
Thoughts?
Like Marvin and MusicBoy mentioned above, I've also been a bit unclear on whether people are including the $490 delivery fee in their definition of the term "invoice price." In other words, looking at Edmund's TMV pricing report, do you consider "invoice" to be $23,754 or $24,244? I was not charged a delivery fee (unless you want to count the $189 misc dealer crap charge as a substitute for a reduced delivery fee). Seems that we either need to agree on a uniform definition of "invoice price" or specify in our posts whether we're including a delivery fee in the final purchase price. Otherwise, it doesn't tell others much to say "I got the car for X dollars under/over invoice."

Can you tell me which dealer in the SF Bay Area gave you this deal?
Thanks
Please do not post messages asking for emails in order to provide information that isn't allowed (see the header of this discussion and the link to our new feature, Rules of the Road, at the top of the page).
If anyone has any questions about this policy, feel free to drop me an email. Thanks.
They did not have any "dealer crap" but there was a $69.00 inventory fee. I did not catch this at first, but when I complained to the GM he sent me a check ... great service!
John Eagle installed the deck spoiler for $410 a couple of weeks after my initial purchase. I was able to purchase the AutoDimming mirror for $282 as they matched the pricing I found on the internet (I did this install.)
Overall the service has been tremendous. The supply free loaners and have Saturday hours which are handy.
I have not done the tinting yet, but I may. Do you have "bubbling" around the dot matrix on the rear Window?
Enjoy the car!
I added NO options to this car.
Here were the prices I was quoted from various dealers, all these prices include $490.00 delivery charge, but NOT local taxes since your's will vary...and even each city below has different rates:
Bellevue WA - $22,456
Everett WA - $22,560
Seattle WA - $22,356
Cars Direct - $22,806
Costco - $22,856
I ultimately bought at Lynnwood Honda : $22,280
All the dealers were willing to give internet quotes, but Lynnwood Honda has now sold me 3 cars and every time the buying process gets simpler and they provide great after sale service.
I did notice while shopping that there were an amazing number of Accords out there right now, and with my luck, starting a week from now there will be a huge sale.
if you take delivery before 3/31, you can use this!"
anyone know of this? does this mean you can just deduct $400 from what you intended to offer, and use that figure as your new offer?
25550 + ttl
I canvassed all the dealers around. One that was a good hour a way would go 300 under that.
Nice car
"temperature 70"
BTW I came across this car after I had decided to buy the acura TL. One of my work mates suggested I should at least test drive it. I honestly liked the drive better on the accord. I know the TL has better performance products installed but there is not 10K of difference IMO
if possible can you send me this email.
thanks in advance
i received the email about the $400 honda discount from the internet manager at the local dealership...
just was wondering if there's anyone here who can verify this..
here's verbatim from email from internet manager of dealership:
"Honda announced $400 dealer cash on all Accords from 3/15 - 3/31, so if you take delivery before 3/31, you can use this!"
ex 4c: 20,140 + TTL
exl 4c: 21,757 + TTL
Sound fair or would suggest trying for a little lower. Thanks
ral2167> here who can verify this.
Apparently this is true. Below is the link here on Edmunds that shows this offer. Scroll to the bottom of the page and see Manufacturer To Dealer-Marketing Support.

I was told by another Honda sales person that now is a good period to buy--inventory is lower than when they first came out, end of the month, it is before April 15 and hotter weather. He said when the new cars ('05) are coming out is a good time too, although the choices (leather, etc...) may be limited, plus the car is one year old by then.
the dealer just would not budge below "invoice".
I am happy overall w/ the deal---includes mud flaps and wheels locks.
Now, THE QUESTION. I live in an urban area and I am considering supplemental alarms, i.e Lo-jack and/or basic car alarm (2 minute noise maker) or possibly no addition at all.
Is anyone aware of the newer cars being stolen
with the current chip in the key ?
Or this this just another sales tactic from the dealer ?
thx
Also, EX has Immobilizer System (cuts off fuel), you can’t hotwire the car, there is an anti-theft locking steering wheel, and radio (when disconnected) needs a security code to work again. Also, you can use your key (with the chip) to lock the glove compartment and lock the trunk release handle preventing theft from valet or other people inside the car. There is a valet key, without a chip, that you give to the valet. BTW, a salesperson explained these to me.
I didn’t see a reason to get an alarm.
I have a question - I consider buying 04 Accord EX
V6 sedan without navigation. One of the dealers gave me a
quote for Grahite Pearl for 23883( out the door
price is 26k, I'm in South California). It is
an excellent price, but the car has 71miles. They
had it on the lot for some time - it was obviously
used for some test driving. This really makes me hesitant. I've never bought a new car before, so I
don't know if this is really a big deal.
What do you think? Thanks.
P.S. Actually I almost bought it, but didn't sign the contract - i need to get insuarnce.
I ended up paying base + *options $26,422.92 + tax&lic
*options included Sports Package and window tint + what the dealer already had on the car, mud guards and trunk tray...
I financed through Costco Auto Program (Capitol One) and got a low 3.44% interest rate. I would have bought from one of Costco's participating dealers, but they were unable to give an accurate invoice price... (2 sales people, 3 prices) the Costco deal is invoice + $500 + $490 ++++++ so, I did some checking online and easily beat the Costco deal, watch out, Costco's not always the best deal... I'm sure this is not a news flash to some of you, but many rely on Costco to give members the best deal out there...
From Manly Honda in Santa Rosa, CA:
$24,840 Purchase price + tax, title, license
Could have closed the deal without options, but decided to get a couple (at internet pricing or dealer discount). Honda financing at 2.9% (no minimum or restrictions).
My humble advice (for whatever it's worth):
1. Go through the internet managers. Work with someone who has the guts to give you an email quote and forget the ones who won't.
2. Look for low-price guarantees (e.g., "We will beat any quote from a dealer in the area by $100").
3. Buy at the end of the month. If you can check dealer inventories on-line, you can sometimes tell which cars (and which colors) they need to get off their lot by then.
4. Don't hesitate to drive out of your local area to get the best deal.
5. You don't need a record-breaking deal, just one that let's you sleep at night (corollary: if you won't sleep, don't buy it).
Good luck with your purchase.
You will love your EX V-6 with Nav.
Anyways after reading all the prices payed, i feel as if i got a really good deal or am i being delusional?
I live in SoCal area.
what was the MSRP for the car?
Msrp 24800? somewhere around there.
Don't have the car yet, but will pick up this week, hopefully.
Satin silver 2004 EX-V6:
$23,154 + dest.charge + tax, plates, etc= $25,110.95.
Not bad, I think. I am happy.
After so many months of research, I can't believe it's over... No doubt: Edmund's is a great source. One gets great feedback...
I didn't use the trade-in (they offered me $100 for it when it's worth at least $1,500!!!). I thought that was insulting, so I put it aside. Almost got up and left.
Atlantabenny: I followed your strategy. Your aggressive but realistic suggestion of $23,600, incl. destination charge was not farfetched: $23,644...
So I'm just waiting for the wire to happen to pick up the car.
Not bad for a girl, hm??
Thanks again,
Mónica.
Joe
How much are they asking for the extended warranty?
Thanks!!
msrp = 22,290
invoice = 20,739
final price 20,239 -included tint in this price
dealer doc fee is 299, plus tax under 1700, and plate of about 350.
total otd 22570 -- dealer matched capital one 3.75% 60 month financing.
jrock65> initial emails/faxes and purchase date?
I timed my purchase toward the end of the month in hopes that this timing would increase my leverage.
Saturday was the last day of the month. So in my email/fax attack I stated that I would be purchasing by the last day of the month.
I sent out my emails to 20 to 25 dealers on the previous Sunday night. I stated that they must respond with their bids no later than Wed at noon.
On Monday I received a number of bid replys by email and telephone. Those dealers that I didn't hear from were faxed the same message that evening.
I heard from more by the next day as well as some follow-ups from the first day.
By the deadline on Wednesday I was receiving follow-up offers from dealers that they would beat the lowest offers that I had received.
After some telephone negotiation on Thursday between three dealers that wanted to do a deal, I decided on the one that offered me the best deal in the color I wanted and also happened to be fairly close to me. I spoke to the salesperson and set an appointment to purchase the vehicle the next day
On Friday afternoon, I drove to the dealer to test drive and inspect the specific vehicle that I was going to buy. Satisfied, I signed the papers and off I went.
So in my case it was approximately 5 days from email to purchase. I allowed an extra day just in case the deal went south at the last minute. I probabbly could have made the purchase on Thursday but I had a pretty good feeling that the deal was a solid one and not a bait and switch so I waited until Friday when it was more convenient for me.
Congrats on your new vehicle.
So, my question is, assuming a dealership may have to order this car if I wanted one, or may only have one at any given time, what would be their incentive to sell it for anywhere close to invoice? I don’t see where the buyer’s bargaining power is with this car. I assume that price is somewhat based on demand and stock.
I’m also wondering how to really time such a purchase, since it seems like I’d really have to wait around until a dealer happened to get one in the configuration and color I wanted. Even then, I may not be able to compare prices since only one dealer may have one at a time. I assume that if they had to order one for me specifically, I'd pay far too much. Please let me know if this doesn’t matter, and if one can actually bargain for a car that the dealer may or may not actually have in stock at the time. I’m not sure how to proceed.
Thanks!
no extras (my mother didn't seem to want anything else), no dealer add-ons, just the car in white/tan.
$20,558 before TTL
$22,939 OTD
This price was offered before the trade in so no worries there. All negotiated via email and phone. Dealer even prepped the car the night before so it was just in and signing paperwork and the usual explaining stuff. Total time at dealer was about 90 minutes.
Did they end up giving you a fair trade on your car?
Thanks
