As I recall the original poster stated it was for an 07, not an 08. I can understand where you would not sell the vehicle for that price at your dealership but if the numbers are to be believed I mentioned earlier then it would be possible. I also don't believe the board would allow that type of information to be posted here

I'm not sure what OTD means here...does that include tax title and license or everything except for that? My main question is that I have 4 quotes from dealers and wanted to know if I should go with these or if you think I could get the cars for a little bit less. I am looking for an Elantra that has AC, and the power sunroof package. THe offers below include all dealer fees but do not include tax title and license. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Offer 1: 2007 SE, AC, Power Sunroof package for $15,575 I can't remember if this one was manual or automatic...I am ok with either, but please advise on both scenarios

Offer 2: 2007 GLS, AC, Power Sunroof package, manual trans for $14,955

Offer 3: 2007 GLS, AC, Power Sunroof package, Automatic Transmission for $15,450

Offer 4: 2007 Limited, AC, Power Sunroof package, manual transmission for $16,000

If a few people could let me know which they thought was the best deal, and if they thought any of these could be purchased lower, maybe advice on what I should offer for each.

OTD means "Out the Door" including all fees, taxes and registration.

Offer #3 is clearly better than offer #2 since the A/T is about $1,000 more retail price.

You're looking at three different trim levels. YOU have to decide whether you want the lower, middle or higher trim line. Check the equipment that comes with each trim line.

Depending upon your location you may be able to get better prices. Check internet pricing from dealers within a distance you would be willing to travel to to get the best deal. Edmunds TMV can often be beaten with internet pricing since Edmunds TMV is an average of prices paid (I think).

After thinking about it a little more, I decided I like the Hyundai Limited option.

2007 Limited, AC, Sun and Sound package, manual transmission for $16,000 - Edmunds has the TMV at

    $17,063

I think I can also get the same car as above with the automatic transmission for $17,000 -

Edmunds has the TMV at $18,060.

What do you think about that deal? Is $1,000 below Edmunds TMV a good deal? Has anyone purchased

an Elantra LImited with these options, or close to it? I would be interested in your price minus

    tax title and license. Thanks!

yes, $1k below edmunds price should be a good deal, but you won't know if its possible unless you check with a few dealerships.

I have the invoice from the auto limited with the sun and sound package(no xm). Its invoice is $18538, so $17538 with rebate if bought at invoice. Holdback is $572, so $16966 IF you can get a dealer to give up the holdback. $17k should be the lowest you can get unless a dealer is willing to loose money to sell you a car, so don't be surprised if its a little hard to get to this price (especially if it has XM).

I bought mine at $350 lower than invoice back in Dec (no rebate at that time), but i also work for the dealership and that is the employee price.

One more thing to know about is Doc or Prep fees. if one dealer is $200 more, but doesn't have a doc fee while the other has a $400 fee, then the no fee dealer's price is better, so just check OUT THE DOOR prices (which means you write a check for $XX,XXX.XX and the car is yours).

patty, do you live near a fitzmall dealership? if so then just buy it there, cause if their price is genuine, then you won't find a better deal.
  • nthenthe Member Posts: 414
for all you people who bought your elantra's at $2-3K lower than invoice (before rebate) to post your bill of sale so we can check your price.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Fitzmall does have good deals. But better deals can be had. I know of 3 instances ( a Sonata SE, an Azera Limited w/ Ultimate & a Tuscon Limited) where the Fitzmall OTD price was bettered by about $800. All three of those cars had XM.

Plus, for us, Denville, NJ is 100 miles away rather than the ~ 300- 350 miles to the D.C. area.

The Fitzgerald "Delivered Internet Price" of $14,314 for a GLS with Preferred plus mats is a great price - but per their website it does not include a $99 dealer processing chage in MD (or a $499 "delivery fee" in FL), title or taxes, so it is definitely NOT an out the door price.

hey, just trying to give accurate information to people who are wanting prices as to what to pay for this car. No one has to give personal info, just cover up your name and address.

If you take your time, do your homework on the prices, options, etc and are flexible (or at least appear flexible in terms of color, etc), then start at a lower priced dealer (like FitzMall) and go from there, you can get good OTD prices. Start early in the month you want to buy, shop around, know the prices, be willing to walk out of the dealership, and/or do all your price shopping via the internet. Knowing which dealerships are high volume dealerships helps as well. Lower volume dealerships just can't do the lower prices. I recently bought a 2007 Elantra GLS with preferred pkg #3 for $14000 OTD (includes everything) from a dealership in Northern VA near the end of July.

What dealership in Virginia did you purchase it from, at that price I might have to look into it. Was there a trade in or other incentives you qualified for?
  • piggy2piggy2 Member Posts: 1
In chicago, sale tax is 9%, the OTD is 14,995. The price of car itself is 13,467(1000 rebate is already applied). Invoice is 16,313(620 destination charge is included). So the car price itself is around 2000 below invoice. No trade in, so dealer doesn't make money on trade-in to make up their loss. Finace through my own bank, so dealer doesn't make money on finacing. The deal could be better if I keep shopping around for a while, but too much hassle. I just took it. Nice car.

It was Fairfax Hyundai. There was no trade involved. Bought about 1 month ago. Had quotes (all internet based) from other local dealers in the area. Also included mud guards and floor mats. Very easy transaction. The sales tax was 5% as I live in MD. Everything was included in the 14000 otd. There was a $1000 rebate that was the only incentive. It is possible to get a good deal.

How do I go about find the names of high volume dealerships? Can you share the name of the Denville NJ dealership.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Towne Hyundai is in Denville, NJ. Check their website and click on internet pricing. They currently offer '07 Elantras at $1500 below invoice plus the $1,000 rebate for a total of $2,500 below invoice. Doc fee is $189.

Then check new car pricing here on Edmunds to determine the MSRP & Invoice price. If the invoice less $2,500 looks good to you, call them to confirm and check for availability (trim, options & color). At this time of year it may be difficult to find a car EXACTLY as you want it. You may have to accept a 2nd or 3rd color choice. Or you may have to consider extra features (or less options--depending upon what is in stock).

    Hi,

Can someone tell me what a "$500 Loyalty rebate" is? Is it a standard rebate, like military personel rebate or college grad rebate, that are offered by Hyundai? Or is it more like a gimmick and/or a hidden rebate from a dealership to persuade a hesitated customer to accept a deal? Thank you very much.
  • lightfootfllightfootfl Member Posts: 442
    Repeat owner. :)
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
It's a rebate from Hyundai to the buyer, so it's a "standard" rebate. You (or it might be you or someone in your immediate household?) have to own another Hyundai to get it.

I've heard of some folks buying two Hyundais at one time, and they got the loyalty rebate on at least one of them (maybe both, not sure).

After researching and test drives, my wife and I opted for the 07 Hyundai Elantra Limited with Sun & Sound package, after considering Corolla, Civic, and Mazda 3, as well as a variety of used cars.

By the time we made this decision yesterday (Aug 29th), Limiteds were getting in short supply. I canvassed all 5 Houston area Hyundai dealers online and found only two 07 Elantra Limiteds left in the entire metro area. Got an offer on one from Best Hyundai for $17,195, but that car sold in the afternoon before I could get there. Took the quote to the other dealer that had one - Hub Buick Hyundai Mitsubishi - and they matched it. Invoice for the car is $18,642. Edmunds listed TMV as $17,977 after the $1000 manufacturer rebate. Got $17,500 for my trade-in, kbb trade-in for it was $18,000.

In all, it was a very easy, amicable deal - 07 Hyundai Limited with Sun & Sounds package and floor mats for $17,195, OTD $18,322. This is the first time I've personally benefitted from the mythical end-of-model-year fire sales. I'm pleased to say that we got the absolute last 07 Elantra Limited in the city of Houston.

I'm trying to buy a 2007 GLS, auto, w/ Option 3. Down to 4 dealerships, negotiating both on the phone on via email. I have a best they can do quote of just under $14,000 w/ no tax or tags (about another $1000) so $15,000 OTD. I said no way. I have another dealer who said he'll beat anyone's price by $500 and extend the powertrain warranty from 60,000 to lifetime. So that puts me at roughly $14,500 OTD w/ a lifetime powertrain. I'm working 2 other dealers on the $14,500 to see if they can beat it, if that doesn't happen, would you take the $14,500 considering the lifetime warranty, or is it still little too much? Located in Massachusetts (5% sales tax) Thanks folks.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Does this Elantra have XM radio? If so, the best deal is about $1663 under invoice, before the rebate and warranty extension. That is a pretty darn good deal IMO. If you want to get this done, ask the dealer with the low offer to throw in the mats ($85 value) and do it. You can keep haggling and maybe get a little better deal, but the 2007s are disappearing in the meantime.

BTW, when a dealer says they'll beat anyone's offer, they usually require the offer to be from the other dealer in writing.
  • piebald3piebald3 Member Posts: 2
This has the XM, and I have an emailed quote so I hope that'll hold up. I'm a purchasing agent by day so I'm used to negotiations. Hopefully it doesn't take all day though. I'll post the deal when I'm through, and thanks for the advice!

I am looking for the same car in Chicago and don't want too much hassle either. Can you email me the name of dealer and salesman please. ddiaz540@sbcglobal.net
  • colloquorcolloquor Member Posts: 482
Best dealer in the Chicagoland area is Pugi Hyundai/Mazda/VW in Downers Grove. Best people and prices in the area.
  • grandfunkgrandfunk Member Posts: 6
Fitzmall advertised it for $14,114. Fairfax Hyunday wanted $15,350 OTD. Malloy Hyundai (Woodbridge) wanted $16,000 OTD. Brown's Manassas Hyundai would not quote until I came to test drive.

Went to Fitzmall and left at $14,773 OTD.

I agree that you may find a better deal somewhere else, however, if you don't want to waste lots of time, use Fitzmall as a guide and then use your judgement.

And yes, the Fitz price online is not OTD - add $99 fee, the tax for your state and the tag charges for your state - should be easy to calculate.

I assume buying in SF, cars might be higher. CA sells only the PZEV model.

I picked up an Elantra SE in mid August, was looking for one with the heated seats and sunroof. None were available. My dealer in Burlingame offered to find me a standard black SE from another Bay Area dealer. They offered to install a fully warrantied power sunroof aftermarket. I agreed. They got in in 24 hours.
My final negotiated price was 15,700(not including tax and reg) for an SE with mats and mudguards. Basically I got a few bucks lower than CarsDirect price, plus $900 for the sunroof. (this included a $2k rebate) I could've worked them harder, but it's a good price IMO.

    hi guys,

i live in brooklyn, ny. i test-drove the elantra gls with sun & sound package and i'm in love. here's a couple of the deals, please help me decide.

1st dealership (requires financing through dealer but i already have capital one loan in place)

    1) otd $17429 - regatta blue / grey interior elantra se with option #3 package
    2) otd $16887 - black /grey interior elantra gls with option #4 package (sunroof)

2nd dealership - (same deal with financing as 1st dealership)

    1) otd $18278 - white / grey interior elantra se with option #4 (sunroof)
    2) otd $16721 - black / biege interior elantra gls with option #4 (sun roof)

3rd dealership (fitzmall) - 4 hour drive away (no, did not go there just called)

    1) $16426 (not including nys tags fee) - biege / beige gls with option #4 (sunroof)
    2) $15469 (again, nys tag fee excluded) - regatta blue / grey gls no sunroof

Anyone have any feedback on fitzmall, don't mind driving down but would hate to go out of my way and get hoodwinked.

    thanks.

Try Towne Hyundai (see their web site & check internet pricing) in Denville, NJ. Towne is much closer to you than Fitzmall.
  • durtybyrdzdurtybyrdz Member Posts: 11
have already created my otd spreadsheet, they've got some great prices, typically beats fitzmall by $300+, just to be sure nys tag fees are $200, right? but based on their website looks like the inventory is a little light. :(
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
I know of 4 deals for CT buyers; the title, tag fees were $200 in each case...I heard they use a service for out of state buyers to handle the paper work (and it includes a temp NJ tag).

Don't go by the inventory listed on their web site. It's not all that up to date. If interested, call them and speak to the internet manager or the sales manager. They are pleasant to deal with and will give you "no BS" answers regarding inventory, price & colors.
  • grandfunkgrandfunk Member Posts: 6
I had never dealt with Fitzmall but I had a good gut feeling so I took the subway from VA to MD confident that I was going to come back with my new car. The price on the website was the price I paid - no hassles whatsoever. Now Fitzmall posts 2 internet prices - one is $399 than the other. The "value" internet price includes the extra $399 which covers a loaner car for life as well as other service extras. Since I live in VA, I did not need that since I will be getting my car serviced locally. Once I had my OTD price, I just needed to avoid the extras the finance guy tries to sell (extended warranty, etched security labels, gap insurance, etc.)

just ordered the fighting chance package for this car and it has a very interesting strategy called the fax attack, curious has anyone here ever used it on this forum? if so how'd it work for you?

ps- the guy at one of the dealerships offered me a vip card to use for servicing that gives me free oil changes for 5 years or the life of the car (can't remember which), has anyone ever heard of something like this before or was he bs'ing to get the sale?

    thanks again. :)
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Uh, what is the "fighting chance" package?

I've used the fax attack for a minivan I was looking at last year. Did not work well, got only 2 replies (one that was serious, where they followed up) and neither was a very good offer.

I got 3 years of free oil changes + other service discounts thrown in when I bought my '04 Elantra. First they tried to sell it to me for $399. They had other packages too. Several dealers in my area offer free oil changes for life (as long as you own it) on all new cars, or any car for which you have the 60k service done there.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
I ordered the package last year and to be honest wasn't impressed with the information that I received. Fax attack method may work as long as you are willing to send it out to a large number of dealerships and realize that you may only get a small number who respond. I'd recommend researching the exact model you are interested in and research what others have paid in this forum as well as researching similiar forums.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
It's a service offered by an individual who was involved in the car business for many years. It basically talks about what incentives and rebates are currently offered as well as contain "insider information" on how to negotiate the best deal on a particular vehicle. The fax method is included in the package as well as samples on how to draft the fax but in my opinion the package is not worth the money. Just my two cents worth.
  • durtybyrdzdurtybyrdz Member Posts: 11
Yeah, got to agree with ya, I wasn't too impressed at first, thought I was getting more, but the reading materials were great because it opened up a lot for me, I wasn't aware of all the under-the-radar deals that go on behind the scenes. if I end up saving at least $40 on my car purchase using this method it was worth it. I live in the ny tri-state area there seem to be a ton of dealerships around me, I guess it's time to find out who's gonna play ball. who know's, end of the month, end of the quarter. It may just pan out. But thanks, that's great advice, I've picked up a lot reading through these posts, didn't know these types of deals existed, good to see others armed and ready when they walk into dealerships. :D
  • pattyrazpattyraz Member Posts: 9
One month later and I am still looking half heartedly for a Elantra gl pkg3, I see all the great deals in other states and are so amazed that the Rochester NY is so determined to keep prices so high. The best deal I got was 15,900 OTD with financing or 16,400 cash. I guess I will have to visit an other state, because I can't remember ever being paid 120.00 an HOUR to drive 10 hours round trip. Have been to Vision got yelled at by the salesman for bringing in internet information, Fuccillo we shook hands on a price and one hour later was 2000.00 higher.
  • pattyrazpattyraz Member Posts: 9
Thank you all for the information through the weeks. Bought a car 3 days ago. 2006 Honda Civic 10,000 miles. Ok deal I can live with, for a great car......

2007 Hyundai elantra se - 14500 offer - - not sure how much tax is though - good?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Is that before tax, license and fees or out-the-door? If it's out the door that's pretty good, especially if it has XM radio. Unless you are in CA with its $2000 rebate, then it's not as good. More details would be helpful.
  • butterflytiffbutterflytiff Member Posts: 26
It is before taxes license and fees. And in NJ. I am getting other offers though so we shall see. What would be a good offer? I didn't want the XM radio. Though it is nice - I really don't want to pay for it.
  • butterflytiffbutterflytiff Member Posts: 26
I was there on Saturday - walked in w/ my friend and the sales men looked at us - looked at each other and ignored us and just kept talking. They were so rude to me I would never go back there again. Even asking my friend (while I was sitting in the drivers seat and they were standing outside) who the car was for! Hello - I was the one sitting in it and had said it was for me!
  • butterflytiffbutterflytiff Member Posts: 26
    2 different dealers in NJ:
    (rte. 22) Elantra SE - in color I want - $16345 OTD
(Jersey City) Elantra SE - in pretty gray - $16300 OTD and he will include a remote starter.

Both include the 4 year vehicle registration which apparently is now required in NJ.

They are both really nice dealers.
  • yankee23yankee23 Member Posts: 16
Does anyone know when the 2008 Elantras are supposed to hit the dealer lots?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Assuming these are base SEs (stick shift, no options) and the price before taxes, license, and fees is about $14,500, that's a pretty good deal but not great, given that there's a $1000 rebate and these are '07 models. The 2nd deal is obviously better given you like the color and it comes with a remote starter, for less money. If the car doesn't include mats, ask them to throw those into the deal at least--they're $85 list and you'll want them come winter.

Even if you don't want XM radio, there's two benefits to having it: 1) without it, you get an ugly (IMO) fixed stick antenna on the rear fender, instead of the little bump on the rear of the roof; 2) the next owner of the car may want XM, increasing the resale value.
