    excellent. enjoy it. :shades:

Tell me if I am imagining this. With the A/C on, if I accelerate moderatly hard, the compressor seems to shut off to allow the acceleration. I notice warm air coming out. As soon as the trasmission shifts into 4th or 5th and RPMS are stable, cold air starts to come out again.

    ??

It is not tranny related, but RPM related. The A/c shuts off around 5000 RPM.
  • fussycrvownerfussycrvowner Member Posts: 179
Not in your imagination. The system is designed to cut off during moderate to hard acceleration. This is to allow more power from the engine to reach the drivetrain and to improve fuel economy. I was concerned about mine at first also.

Thanks for your ideas. Since it may seem to be the entire undercarriage it may be a normal body flex issue. I guess I need to turn the radio up louder. :shades:

someone on a similar forum for the accord (can't remember which) suggested it was fixed by the dealer applying grease to the backing plate(s) on the front brakes.

a cv joint problem is suggested when you hear a brrrt brrrt brrrt sound, usually in one but not the other direction.

I talked to the guy in Parts and the Shop Foreman at my dealership. Here is the deal with the Console in the EX-L:

    1. I can easily order all the parts to assemble the EX-L console myself. Off Majestic Honda, about $275. The issue is how to mount it to the floor.
    2. The right side seat in EX is different than EX-L. The EX has the brackets for the flip center tray console welded to the seat frame. You can pull the Tray Console out, but the brackets are still there, which would prevent the EX-L console from fitting in between the seats.
    3. The EX Tray Console brackets can be cut off to make room.
    4. The last hurdle. We don't know if Honda placed the holes in the floor pan and/or bolts in the floor to accept the EX-L console mounting plate (can see in parts diagram). My dealer says I have to find this out somehow, but unbolting the seat myself or paying them to do it. If the bolts are in the floor, we are home free. If not, I have to take the Honda to a body shop to have the mounting plate tacked to the floor, (welded).

Now, is this a lot to go through to get a place to store your wallet, cell phone, gum and loose change? I don't know. I will be keeping this car for 10-12 years. I don't know what the alternatives would be at this point. I thought about getting a wicker basket and using velcro to keep on the floor between the seats.

Does anyone else have passion about this problem? What are your thoughts?

I had this problem on my 2003...try having turn the wheel fully to the left than right. While wheel is being turned, place your hand on the coil spring--if you feel a "sharp" vibration (at which time you may also hear the spring) than it is likely the top strut bearing plate at fault. Mine was replaced around 45,000 km.; no problems ever since.

    good luck.

Have had my '99 CRV for a week....and first Honda. Makes a loud noise front left when going over speed bumbs or into dips (not going very fast). Loud squeak like maybe that spring thing.... or is that a strut noise? And how come a mechanic can't figure that out? I've taken it to a couple, and even had one ride with me, but of-course it didn't do it then. They said the shocks were good. Thanks for any help on this.

My 2005 Honda CRV has ABS and stability control. It is making a noise that the dealership says is normal. It is a sort of whirring click noise when the speed reaches about 10mph. It only does this once, when the vehicle is first started. They tell me that it is the ABS doing a self check. They even showed me some internet info on ABS (not particular to Honda though). I wondered if any other 2005 Honda CRV owners have heard this noise or if my dealership is not correct.
    Thanks. :confuse:
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
It's the ABS unit doing it's thing.

Funny, some cars do this pretty often and others don't.

The other morning our CRV decided to do this and it surprised me.
  • fussycrvownerfussycrvowner Member Posts: 179
Thanks for the advice. I may sound crazy or in my imagination but so far the noise has disappeared after replacing the front brakes. They were just starting to stick (again). Any ideas if plastic coating peeling off the CV joints will cause problems later on? :confuse:

I have an update to post regarding my throttle position sensor problem (and some facts that were lacking on previous posts on the subject).

My problem also seemed to go away after using Gumout Fuel System Cleaner but I am now convinced it was just a coincidence. That is, the Gumout could not have had any effect on the problem because fuel never gets anywhere near the throttle position sensor. The sensor measures the position of the throttle body's butterfly by sensing the rotation of its spindle. The sensor is actually on the outside of the throttle body. Furthermore, the butterfly only regulates the amount of air entering the engine. It does not regulate fuel flow. (i.e. The engine, being port-injected, only gets air through the throttle body - not fuel.)

So, although the Gumout probably cleaned up my injectors (the engine does seem to be running better now), it could not have fixed the sensor problem. The only way to fix the sensor problem is to have the throttle body replaced. And, I had that done last week after my dealer did some "negotiating" with the Honda rep. I would up paying for the labor but the part was free.

Note: I have been driving Hondas/Acuras for about 30 years now and have been using the same dealer's service department for most of that time. (i.e. My Honda brand loyalty may have helped out.)
  • fussycrvownerfussycrvowner Member Posts: 179
Good point. Labor only is a LOT better than paying for a $700 throttle body plus labor. Question is where the contamination is building up? Would spraying Gumout directly on the sensor where the butterfly shaft connects help or make things worse?
  • stick25stick25 Member Posts: 6
No. The sensor is a sealed unit (and integral to the throttle body). Apparently the "contamination" is from internal wear and tear and the fact that there was a manufacturing defect on some units.

Well, took the car to be fixed.they said they changed the weight sensors and the rental I got..the light does not stay "on". SO, I guess for the 4 1/2 months I owned this..that was wrong. I want a new vehicle. This is the SEVENTH time in the 5 months I own this car I have had to have service do something. 3 times for the tire pressure monitor problem , 3 times for a starter problem and now this. I think I got a lemon and I do not feel confident in this car now

gwingee...Thanks for getting back to me on the seat belt lite issue, I was very confident that the lite should remain off when everything is working right. I have read your posts regarding your other problems as well and you have my deepest sympathy. I wish you all the luck and I hope this will be the end of your struggles with your CRV. :(

    Mind if I ask why?
  • gwingeegwingee Member Posts: 54
not at all. because I want a new vehicle. I have had nothing but problems with a brand now 2007 CRV...only owned for 5 months...car has been in the dealers 7 times...will e 8 because the problem I took it for this time...picked up today and guess what ...still not resolved...I am tired of being unsure of my brand new car. I had a 10 yr old Toyota Camry that never gave me problems till the 9th yr. 9 years...this car is only 65 months old...unbelievable. I don't think it is right to have a new car and have nothing but trouble. I have a life, I can not be running constantly to the dealer. I work and have kids to care for..I have a neighbor who needs help. I just want a vehicle I can DEPEND on..and if the dealer and American Honda customer service will not help, then maybe it is time to go over their heads.
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
I don't think the CEO of Honda will give you much help. Have you tried the Lemon Law? Details of your state's law should have been given to you when you bought your vehicle.
  • gmoney2gmoney2 Member Posts: 31
Yes, it is the ABS doing a self check. I have a 2006 CRV, and it does the same thing. The first time I heard it, I went back to the dealer and test drove another CRV off the lot, and it did it as well.
  • gwingeegwingee Member Posts: 54
my best friend had a problem with her brand new Chevy truck. She finally called the VP of the company and in one day he had her problem resolved. ONE DAY. I guess Honda does not care enough about their customers..is that what you are saying?
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
I've never heard of going up the corporate ladder to get a persistent problem fixed. But if it worked for your friend then what the heck. You came here asking for advice. I gave mine and I'm sure others will too. What you do with it is up to you.

I feel for your frustrations. I have had my "had it" times with mine also. Unfortunately my issues were too far apart and after too many miles to even consider lemon compensation. For now (knock on wood) it is stable again. For out of warranty issues it is best to have the dealer's service manager contact Honda on your behalf for a decision. They seem to get better offers for help with the cost. But in your case there should at least be some sort of Arbitration Board which is an impartial third party to take the case up with. The laws vary from state to state. I filed for arbitration once over a defective radio. They settled without a hearing and mailed me a work order to get a new replacement. I wish you all the best. Hopefully, as in my case, things will settle down for you again and you can enjoy actually driving it for once.
  • gwingeegwingee Member Posts: 54
I hope so..this is a brand new CRV which I only got on Oct 29th...had only 50 or 60 miles on it. Honda America is closed today..so I can not talk to a supervisor and they would not give me the Pres or VP info. I think consumers are entitled
to know who the CEO or the VP is of a company. That is the American way as far as I know.
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
I found the CEO's name in this article.

    http://host.businessweek.com/stocks/company_profile.html?NOTATION=76384

His name is Takeo Fukui. Good luck, let us know how you make out.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
If they are not on Honda's websites, go look on some of the stock investment companies or SEC websites. These companies issue stock and all of the executives and board of directors are public knowledge.

However, my personal opinion is that you should be working thru the correct service channels that are set up to handle your problems (dealer and customer care help desks). If unsuccessful, then lemon law process.

Well and so it begins AGAIN. I just went to my moms house. On the way there...my dog..20 lbs was on the seat...the airbag passenger light was lit OFF,.,the whole way...on the way back he lay on the floor..the light was lit OFF again. Now, I just went to the grocery store..no one on the seat again..and no light came on...
  • fussycrvownerfussycrvowner Member Posts: 179
That definitely is a strange one. It almost sounds as if there is an intermittant problem with the wiring. Has the dealer tried replacing the SRS module? As far as the CEO of Honda, they make all sorts of products. There may be a higher up in the automobile group to give an earful to. Hopefully a translator will not be needed. Actually another route is to contact the NHTSA and file your issue. It is a restraint problem and would fall under vehicle safety. At least it will go into a database for statistical purposes.

Was the dog laying on the floor in the front or the back? With the dog in the front passenger seat, the sensor worked as designed. With the dog on the floor in the front it may have possibly jumped onto the seat momentarily or rested it's paw or tail against the bottom of the seat triggering the sensor.

Heck, my laptop triggers the Airbag off light.

If you love your dog, and don't want it to get killed or hurt in an accident, get a partition for the cargo area and keep it there. In an accident, your dog becomes a projectile, unless you have tought it how to wear a seatbelt. Such projectile can hurt you or any other occupant, and do you really want your dog to fly head first through the windshield?

What are the general recommendations on how to break in the new CRV. How long is the break in period usually for. And are you supposed to change your engine oil and fluids after the break in period?
  • gwingeegwingee Member Posts: 54
ha ha.I LOVE my doggie..He wears a seatbelt. It is attached to the belt in the car...except when he goes on the floor. He was on the floor in the front.

How much of a transmission fluid leak is considered acceptable? I have 40,000 miles and am noticing about a drop or two at the gasket where the two halves of the housing are bolted together. I wiped it off and have found another couple drops about a week later. The leak is from around one of the bolts not sealing. To loosen the bolt and re-tighten would probably cause more problems. Since owning the car, I have noticed the level only going down about 8 ounces or so. I am not really comfortable with a several thousand dollar tranny job or adding a non-Honda sealer. :confuse:
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
Can you take it back as a warranty fix?

Much too new a car to have fluid leaks, especially if it is as simple as a pan gasket.
  • fussycrvownerfussycrvowner Member Posts: 179
Good thought. I would LOVE to go that route, maybe under a goodwill. It is an '02 and 4 1/2 years from when I bought it. From service bulletins, Honda must likely install a re-manufactured transmission to make any warranty claims. It's weird since the failure is external and not internal, which would require a rebuild. If it were a pan leak I would replace the gasket myself and re-torque everything. In this case it is the transmission housing where the two halves bolt together. From what I see, it involves removal and re-installation of the entire transmission, unless there is a simple fix.

General recommendation is to follow the OWNER's MANUAL, to the dot, including the oil change frequency.

ha ha.I LOVE my doggie..He wears a seatbelt. It is attached to the belt in the car...except when he goes on the floor. He was on the floor in the front.

It is much safer for your dog to be in the rear cargo bay since he is not firmly attached to the seat. In a collision, the long leash will allow him to gain enough momentum to snap his head off when the leash attached to the seatbelt stops him from flying out the window.

See if the Airbag off light still acts up when the dog is secured in the partitioned off cargo bay.

Cars are designed to carry people in the seats, not animals, hence the airbag off light acting up.

I have a seatbelt that is only about 10 inches long..he cant go far with it..but I will start to put him in the back seat.
    Thanks..
the airbag off light is still off and on...when my purse was on the seat it was lit..then on my return trip..same purse it was not lit...

How much does the purse weigh? and was it centrally located in the seat?

When you drive, do you sit up straight or lean on the window sill?

Uneven weight distribution in the seat will cause the light to come on. It should be in your Owner's Manual, it is in my 2005 Manual.

Just trying to give back to the forum here after getting help on PTTR. I finally changed the tires of our 05 SE and put on some Goodyear Comfortreads. Its really like a new car. Quiet on the highway, compliant handling with the bounciness gone, and best of all no PTTR at all. I am really serious: buy some new tires. These Goodyears are magic on the CRV and the OEM are junk. So yeah, they are street tires but if you are off-roading your CRV much, stop buying alignments and look at a Jeep!

BTW, excellent in the snow, no slipping at all at Donner summit in 9" of fresh...

There may be something helpful for your door lock question at the American Honda Service Express site ( https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/logon.asp ).

You may have to copy/paste the link in your browser's address bar - it's fighting me at the moment. :P

    Anyone?
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
I still haven't fixed it, just not worth the time and money. Yeah, I have to manually lock and unlock that door, but that's a minor inconvenience compared to what's involved to fix it.
