Email me at xxx@yyy.zzz stuck 1,000 miles from home ...

You picked a good week to be away from home. We're barely reaching single digits during the day!

In any case, if you keep the conversation here then everyone will learn and benefit. :)

Sorry to hear about your problem. This could end up being an expensive fix. Not good when the coolant mixes with the oil. We to have a 2003, but with fewer miles. My search on this site for 'check engine light' helped me diagnose a throttle body problem before we took in for dealer diagnostic. Keep us posted. Hope this problem is not as common as the A/C problem is on 2001-2004 models.

I can't believe no one has complained about a distorted windshield. I have had mine replaced once with an equally distorted piece of glass. Scheduled to have it replaced again. Yes, the service guy sees the distortion. I have even seen other 2007 CR-V's with the same vertical streaks in parking lots. It feels like I'm looking through someone's glasses...and I have 20/20 vision. Anyone sensing this?

I need some advice. I was just informed that I need a throttle body repair on my 2002 CRV. I took it in with the indicator light on, I had no symptoms. I've read other people's postings about this problem and wonder if I also can talk them into repairing it for free since it appears to be a very common problem. Does anyone have advice on this subject? The repair is around $1200.
Thank you for any help that you may have on this subject. :confuse:

    Hello,
    First post.
    Just bought a 2004 crv-lx with manual transmission,18,000 miles.
The engine revs ( 200-800 rpms ) btween gears on acceleration. Better somewhat after warming up.
Other manual tran. have not done this (1987/1989 accords).
Anybody know if this is normal? Dealer not impressed.
    Thanks for any advice. :confuse:

Are you easing up off the gas, before depressing the clutch? Might have a little more lag, compared to your earlier vehicles.....and just take a little getting used to.
  • shifting2shifting2 Member Posts: 7
I'll pay more attention to the gas pedal and see.
Agree, may just be a honda crv thing.
    Thanks for the response.

Modern cars hold revs higher while shifting, than cars from 10-20 years ago.. It helps with emissions, by burning fuel, instead of dumping it in the exhaust..

That stated, even my automatic CR-V seems to drop revs very slowly, when you let off the accelerator.

After purchasing my 2007 CR-V EX I noticed a grinding sound everytime I turned my steering wheel sharply. I returned it to my dealer who had to call Honda as to what to do. The dealer replaced the differential and told me the reason why it failed after 400 miles was because it was an assembly problem. This is my eighth Honda (replaced an 03 Accord EX) and do feel it is an excellent automobile.

We just had ours replaced under the Honda Care extended warranty. Our CRV is a 2003 with 59,000 miles. You may want to search this site with the key words 'throttle body'. I believe there may be at least one message where a CRV owner had this repair done for free even though out of warranty. The post may tell you how they got the free repair.

We also have a 2003. Just curious as to how they discovered your head gasket problem, symtoms, etc.

Thanks to both you and kiawah.
Your insights have settled my question and I can now relax and enjoy my crv.
I did however buy the warranty just in case.
    Thanks again.

    Hi,

today I went to my car, and unlocked it. Got in and turned it on. The back window light was on. Weird, I goto the back it's locked and closed. I open it and close it. Still the light is on.
But now I notice I can't lock my doors. The driver side lock won't go down. I can't use the door close button etiher. I futzed arround with the driver side lock mechanism, using my finger to move it to lock position, and then I could press the actuall button down. But I could not use the toggle switch to lock all the doors. If I forced the button down, the other doors would lock. All of this out of the blue.

    Any ideas.

Also on a seperate note, the car makes a loud hissing sound in the front. Maybe more like a whoosing sound. Is that normal? Car has 60k miles.

Thanks for your information on warranty. Took the CRV to dealer and they did computer check. Confirmed problem was seatbelt. They have ordered part and will replace when it comes in all under warranty. You and snoopy21 saved me the expense of replacing the part.

    Hi,

Ok after my wife got home and I had some time to investigate, it seems the problem was the tailgate sensor. I tested by pushing it and hitting the close all locks button twice. The car horn beeps and all the locks lock. The passanger side door still had problems. Until I put the key into the lock and opened and closed it several times. Seems something was stuck in the door. I think I stressed out the motors now, because now when I lock the doors I get a squek out of somewhere. The lights dim a little too. So mabye tomorrow when everything is cooled down it will be ok.

SO anyone know what might be making the whooshing noise?

Thank you for the information. After reading the messages I called Honda of America and my dealer and they have agreed to cover the cost of half of the part( a $400 concession).
I'm happy with that. I'm greatful that I found this forum and read the information posted on the subject. :)

Here's a pretty easy thing to try.

    1) get your Honda Radio code out - should be in the Owner's Manual folder.

    2) turn ignition to "acc", turn on radio, and write down (or memorize, if you can) the radio pre-sets.

    3) open hood, and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Leave it disconnected for 5 minutes. Re-connect. This may re-set the lights and locks. In any case, you'll then have to re-initialize the radio (code and pre-sets).

Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Hello, I have a 2001 CR-V that has a trouble code p1363 referencing the TDC sensor in the distributor. I've checked the resistance on it and it's within spec, however after testing the other 2 sensors within the distributor,(ckp & cyp), they both fall short of spec. Still the TDC code remains. Is the only solution to replace the distributor?
    If so, is it difficult?
And btw, what's the easiest way to break the set screw free on the rotor without stripping the philips tip?
    Would appreciate any help. Thanks

I just found today, the hood lock can not hold the hood in the position tightly. You still can vibrate it once it is closed. I checked another 06 V, same problem. For 04 model, no problem. Anybody else experience the same issue? Appreciate for the suggestion.

take it to the dealership and let them adjust it? verify no missing rubber grommets or stops.
  • fussycrvownerfussycrvowner Member Posts: 179
I had that on my '02. It's a rather easy adjustment to make with no tools needed. There are two rubber bumpers on either side of the engine compartment toward the front. They are sort of behind the radiator and on the edges by the fenders. They screw in by hand and can be adjusted for a tighter fit. A turn or so counter-clockwise will bring them up and hold the hood more snugly against the latch. One way to check for proper adjustment is to make sure the hood is level with the fenders on the sides.

Ok after my wife got home and I had some time to investigate, it seems the problem was the tailgate sensor.

You got it! It is the tailgate sensor. For some reason the actuator is too short and the tailgate does not always activate it. So, the keyless entry system thinks that one of the doors is still open and will not lock the locks.

I put a piece of Silicone tubing over the switch arm to make it thicker. I have not had a problem since. It was a little annoying driving at night and have the cargo area light flicker all the time.

Anybody have suggestions how to remove corrosion from inside the brake calipers? I had some water enter around the boot which caused the guide pin to rust and seize. I was able to remove the pin to replace but now the caliper seems to stick rather than slide back and forth easily. So far, I have used brake cleaner to wash out the old grease and replace the pin. I have also taken a drill bit to try to scrape out some of the old material. Thanks.

Thanks. I will try to fix it that way.

Last week when I was taking my floor mats out and cleaning my car out, I found the front passenger floor mat frozen to the carpet underneath! I previously found some moisture under that same mat but I thought it was from a bottle of water that had been rolling around and leaked on the floor. So I don't know for how long the moisture was trapped under the floor mat. Anyway I brought it in to my dealer and they fixed it. They said this type of leak was mentioned in a service bulletin they received. The water was entering from the windshield wiper area. It has been resealed and I shouldn't have any more problems, so they say. My question is how do Honda owners find out about "service bulletins"? If I had known this was a problem, I would have been more diligent in checking for more moisture accumulation. Thanks for your help.

Do you have a regular service advisor you see?. I go to the same guy every time I take our cars in for service/repair. Service advisors as you get to know them are pretty good about making you aware of TSB's & service bullitens or just about any other little inside tidbit they become aware of... Just ask one of them if you can have a copy of any service bullitens. They can print them out on the spot. :)

What is the best product to use to conditon/treat leather seats?
  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
What is the best product to use to conditon/treat leather seats?

Saddle soap or Honda's leather and Vynil cleaner and conditioner.

Oh, and if you are inquiring about the "Leather" in your CR-V, Read the MANUAL, because you don't have leather. You have leather inserts, the rest is vynil. Do whatever the manual tells you or it will crack.

I have an opportunity to buy a 2003 CR-V EX with 81,000 miles. It runs great and I had a mechanic friend with me when looking the vehicle over. The buyer let me do a pre-inspection at a certified inspection station (at my expense) and everything passed with flying colors. My only concern is the mileage. Anyone that has put high mileage on the 2002 and newer CR-V's, please reply. Thanks.

Thank you for this advice. What about alloy wheels... any advice on caring for them? I still temp. plates on my 07 CRV and the alloys are getting pretty black.
  • madams1madams1 Member Posts: 101
I have a 2003 with 60,000 miles, which is somewhat normal. I would not be concerned about the mileage on this vehicle. I would be more concerned about previous maintenance, such as 'Was the oil and filter and transmission fluid changed timely'.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,571
My only issue has been with the tray table between the seats... They won't repair, only replace at $300 or so... So, mine is in the permanently upright position.

    Not too bad!! :)

First of all, thanks to you all for your contributions. The more informed I am, the better I feel. I bought a used 2005 Honda CRV EX from a used car dealer, not Honda. I used the internet, carfax and this site to fight for a price and warranty. This vehicle has a lot of miles on it for a 2005, it was actually bought in Dec. 2004 (pre-2005?), and has 43,448 miles, but it was beautiful inside and out so I bought it. There is a manual and owners guide and things just no service records. The crv was bought from Grainger Honda in Georgia "The People's Choice" at $24,499.50 and serviced there until the previous owner moved to Hawaii, where I bought it.

I have emailed the dealer and requested information but not really sure if it is allowed or what is entailed in getting previous service and routine maintenance records from a previous owner.

I mean is there some type of confidentiality that would prevent them from releasing that information? The reason I want that information is to get a starting point and not duplicate servie and maintenance that was already performed. Anyway, anybody have any info or help in this situation would be greatly appreciated.

    Aloha from Hawaii!
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Yep, privacy laws forbid the dealer from revealing the previous owner. If I were you, I'd just bring it up to maintenance based on the 30K mileage interval.
  • stevedebistevedebi Member Posts: 4,098
"Yep, privacy laws forbid the dealer from revealing the previous owner. "

But he is not asking for the previous owner's identity; he is asking for the VIN number's maintenance that has been performed. Seems to me that the dealer could run off a report or something without revealing the previous owner information.
  • johnnymurphjohnnymurph Member Posts: 35
Madams1 - Thanks for the response - just what I was hoping to hear! I am treating this vehicle as nothing has been done on a regular basis, so the transmission and AWD transfer case are the first services to be done. Thanks again.
  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
This vehicle has a lot of miles on it for a 2005, it was actually bought in Dec. 2004 (pre-2005?)

Honda releases new year models in September of the previous year. So, the 2005 model was released in September of 2004.

Some manufacturers release their new year models as early as April. Ford, I think is one of them.

Thank you for this advice. What about alloy wheels... any advice on caring for them? I still temp. plates on my 07 CRV and the alloys are getting pretty black.

I would do whatever the Owner's manual calls for. Remeber that Honda alloys are painted with clear coat, so no harsh chemicals nor steel brushes.

You do want to clean the wheel often so that brake dust does not start corroding through the clear coat.
  • hicrvguyhicrvguy Member Posts: 11
Exactly correct. I actually already know the person's name who owned the vehicle but all I want is the service records.

I just love the information on this site and seen a few mods around here that have inside knowledge about these things and wondered if it was possible or if anyone had any experience getting this information.

Thanks for the replies. Seems no one has tried it.
  • boqibamaboqibama Member Posts: 25
Hi, fussycrvowner, I tried the way you did. but I can not adjust to the right possition for thoes two rubber bumpers. too high or too low. Adjusting the rubber bumpers is the only way to fix it? thank u.

03 CRV with right side of panel light dimmer than left side, anybody has any clue if I can do this myself? :confuse:

    Thanks

Nothing to worry about, my wife's 03 has 94K, just make sure you put better tires on it. Good year triple tread is a good choice.

I guess the bumper adjustment can be a bit tricky. Another thing to try may be to have the hood latch adjusted? Not sure how to get to the bolts holding the latch on. :confuse:
  • fussycrvownerfussycrvowner Member Posts: 179
I would think that having the maintenance records should be a selling point for any used vehicle. The dealer should be able to log in with the VIN number and print those out, or at least give you the mileage intervals when those were performed. They are able to to make sure you are up to date with recalls. If they were done at another shop or by the owner then there is no way to track.

I read the string from April and May 2006 (message 3954 and replies) concerning this problem. I am having a problem with blown fuses from using the outlet for charging my cell phone and using my GPS.

Is the answer to this problem not to plug items in unless the engine is turned off? The fuse does not blow all the time but I have replaced fuses about every 4-6 months. Could this be a problem with the outlet?
