Just purchased a 2006 Sonata GLS V6 with package 2 (sunroof) for $16400 and with taxes and lic is $18525 OTD, which include the $1000 consumer rebate, $1000 financing rebate, and the $500 auto show rebate. I got it from Team Hyundai in Pasadena, CA. They didn't have my first choice of white color with just standard options so they said if I pick out a car from the lot then he can make me a deal for $16400, which is exactly what I did. Originally my offer to them was $16531 for the white one with just standard options, which no other dealers in the L.A. area were able to match. They accepted the offer but they said they don't have the car in stock but they assured me they can get it the next day. The next day comes, waited until 3:00 pm, and still no white one. So that's why they offered me the black one, with the sunroof, for an even lower price than the one without it. The car is just superb. I've got nothing but praises so far from everyone who's seen it. Good luck in finding yours.

Wow, a V6 Sonata with sunroof for less than the price of a Civic LX! You got a really great price!

    Congratulations! Amazing deal!
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
Well that is really not that hard to do, they are really screwing people on the price of Honda Civics right now that's why I went to the Sonata in part.

I saw a lot of people posted their great deal here, yet I am unable to get no where near those price with dealer around the bay area  . Some doesn't even bother to return email quote request  .

    Hi all,
So I finally took the chance of driving 250 miles down to MD w/husband to look at the Sonata they offered me at Fitzmall. It turned out to be the best car dealership experience i had till date. Not only did they stick to their words/price they had quoted, they were nice and courteous in dealing with you and this goes for the finance guy also. The guy who i was dealing with took time to show all the features of the car before we were to drive off and personally cleaned the faint fingerprints that were on the gear stick before i even noticed it. and I paid only 20792 X taxes(6%)+400(title, reg. NJ+99 processing fee-2000 rebates. It came out to just about 20560.00. I would definitely refer this dealership to people who don't want to deal with lying/cheating salesmen.
Thanks to all of you in helping me buy this car.

That was an LX model right?
Glad to hear of your nice dealings :)

Edmunds lists this as $20,961. Is this a good estimae of the number? How much deviation should there be in the Edmunds amount vs. what the dealer quotes you as "invoice"?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,637
You have to go ahead and price the car with options.. That amount doesn't include the destination charge... that gets added on the last page..

That is the actual invoice figure.. Most differences from the dealer's invoice can be attributed to local/regional advertising fees.. Since these vary by locality, they aren't included on the Edmunds invoice.

    regards,

I am about to purchase 2005 sonata gls, loaded, excellent condition. Dealer asking 15,900. Is this a good price? Are there any dealer rebates or incentives available? Want to purchase 1-26-06, so any quick response is appreciated.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
By "loaded" do you mean a V6? How many miles are on it? Is it previously owned (meaning no 10-year powertrain warranty)?

The '06 Sonata GLS V6s are going for as little as $16,400 + T&L. There are $3000 in rebates on those cars (assuming you are a Hyundai owner, otherwise just $2000 max). Also the '06s are much better cars than the '05s--all new design. So IMO you should be able to get a used '05 for less than $15,900. If not, you might want to look into getting a new '06. For a little more it's a much better car and you would get the full new-car warranty.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
You may/should be able to do a bit better. I bought an "05 GLS Special Value last April for $16,705 (plus 6% tax, etc. OTD was $17826). Sales tax was on price before rebate ($1500) . But, mine doesn't have sunroof...so that should be worth around $800.

Just remember, if you buy an '05 now, if someone totals your car in a week, it will be a one year old car with only a few miles on it.
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
That is a total rip off! For that price you can buy a 2006 model which is a whole lot better deal. They should be just about giving the 2005 models away by now.
  • 22rr7722rr77 Member Posts: 1
So tippy2, what did you end up doing about the 05?
  • pnjfksxpnjfksx Member Posts: 6
Fitzmall in Gaithersburg, MD has priced me an LX with Package 3 at $19,770 after $2500 in rebates (basic, finance, and auto show). OTD - $20539.50. Plan to pick up on Tuesday. Will let you know how it goes.
  • chan101quachan101qua Member Posts: 26
Just wondering, as Fitzmall, if you are an out of state buyer, and you don't have to pay tax for MD. Can you get away with paying tax ?
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
you pay taxes in the state you end up registering the car in.

This is my first time on the Forum. I just paid $22,000 Total Out the Door for a 2006 Sonata LX with Moonroof and upgraded stereo, using $2000 in rebates. The $22K included EVERYTHING, sales tax, battery fee, tag for 14 months, and dealer fee. Did I do good, or should i go back and ask for a kiss?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
I suppose that depends on the attractiveness of the sales rep or sales manager.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
A Twin Cities dealer, Morries Hyundai, was advertising new 2006 Sonata GLS V6 with moonroof in this weekend's newspapers for $15,515 + T&L. I assume that includes $3000 in rebates including the loyalty rebate, but that is a really good price if someone can take advantage of it.
  • pnjfksxpnjfksx Member Posts: 6
I'll let you know exactly how it all comes out on Tuesday, as to whether they collect it or I have to pay it separately.
  • own2sonatasown2sonatas Member Posts: 4
Regarding GLS V4 pricing in Northern California... Best we found was $14,888 after $2500 rebates or $17,388.00 before rebates. This particular ad was running Friday 01/27/06 in the Sacramento Bee. It's good through Tuesday, January 31st. We took the ad to another dealer with more inventory and nicer fleet/internet managers and they matched it. Contact the internet director at People's Folsom Lake Chrysler, Jeep, Hyundai in Folsom, CA. Incredible guy to work with. We drove an hour to do business with him. Might be worth driving from the Bay area...

    Good luck!
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
In my area (CT) most (maybe all) car ads, regardless of brand, are for base car, no options at full retail less any factory rebates. They do not include any dealer discounts. Then you have to add doc. fee, taxes, etc.

A knowlegable buyer should be able to by most any car at a price lower than the ads. The ads are just a come-on to get one into the dealership. The ads aren't like a department store advertising $40 shirts on sale for $25.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
A knowlegable buyer should be able to by most any car at a price lower than the ads.

In many cases that is true, but not for cases like the one I saw this weekend where one dealer was offering one Sonata GLS V6 with moonroof for $15.5k. In that case, it was clear that only one car was offered at that discount (about $7000 off list), so I think the odds of going in and getting a comparable car for a lower price--or even the same price--are pretty slim.

Another dealer a few miles away was advertising Sonata GLs for $16.5k--no "one only" deal there. So in that case I think there is a good chance to beat that price, considering invoice less rebates is quite a bit less than $16.5k.

I ran into an ad in the Denver paper on Saturday Jan. 29 of a GL 2006 for 12,999 with all rebates.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Backy, I said the advertised price was msrp "less" rebates, meaning take mrsp and subtract the rebates and you'll get the advertised price. The advertised price usually includes all possible rebates even thought most people don't qualify for all possible rebates.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Yes, I understood what you posted. That practice seems to vary by area. In my town, most dealers do not include the college graduate and military rebates in their ads, but they frequently include the loyalty rebates (but not always). When there is a "business" rebate, is is almost always itemized. So it pays to read the fine print.

I just bought a GLS V6 with moon roof(bright silver) for 19358 OTD. This includes the $1000 customer rebate and $1000 hyundai finance rebate. Is that a good deal?
Also the finance guy told me that the extended warranty (100k , 10yrs) can be bought at the time of buying. But I had read somewhere here that I can add it within 30 days after buying , so I didnt taje it.

    Hello, everyone,
I have just bought GLS I-4 with Premium package for $18,200 OTD, which includes $1,500 rebate + $400 new graduate rebate. The invoice price for this car is $19,740, and I got $1,540 below it, but my APR is pretty high: 6.25% for 60 months. Is this a reasonable deal?
  • blnewtoblnewto Member Posts: 146
I'd say both deals above are quite reasonable, especially the V6 w/ Moonroof. Both are getting great cars for a very modest price. As far as the 6.25% APR, not bad, interest rates are rising a bit now and you shouldn't be upset w/ that rate, especially if your credit history isn't too lengthy.
  • heislord5heislord5 Member Posts: 1
18645 + window etching (285) + TTL and fees stuff.

    No money down.
    No trade-in.
Total amount after everything including taxes = 20,3XX.

    Tax rate was 6.25%.

I was mad about the window etching fee, but I was getting such a good deal and I had less than 200 miles left on my Carmax sale offer for the car I sold (to Carmax) so I didn't argue and just took the deal. They give bad financing rate, but had to finance through them for the financing rebate. Will refinance in 3 months, to get better rate.

You got about $600 below invoice price (I assume you didn't take any option). Reasonable deal. Do you think we can get better APR from a bank? I need to refinance too. Enjoy your new car.
  • summerysummery Member Posts: 7
Why to pay the window etching? Check carbuyingtips.com before you buy a car.

The Hyundai dealer is Roseville Hyundai. I think its part of the Planet Hyundai group that has big dealerships in several states.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
If you mean Denny Hecker's Roseville Hyundai in Roseville, MN, I think Denny has his own automotive empire, unrelated to Planet Hyundai.
  • m7chaelm7chael Member Posts: 11
Why the 3 month wait? The finance person here in florida also sid that but the contract just refers to a 'possible' $75 fee for early payoff in the first 6 months.
  • tenpin288tenpin288 Member Posts: 804
If you finance through Hyundai so you can get the financing rebate, the selling dealer gets a kickback/commission only if the buyer keeps the loan for a minimum of 3 months. So if you can get a better financing rate through a bank, credit union, etc, go for it and don't wait for that 90 day period to expire. It will only hurt you if you keep it longer, and hits the dealer in the pocket book if you pay it off sooner. If he calls to complain, tell him he should have been upfront with you in the beginning about the 3 month wait.

Last night, January 31, I stopped by a Hyundai dealership in my area to test-drive the Sonata GLS 4 cyl. ... I liked the car, but did not have any intentions of buying it right now...

But then it was the end of the month... The very last HOURS of the month... The sales people were VERY interested in selling me the car... They offered me PREMIUM price -- $5,000 for my 11 years old V6 Honda Accord (with 78k miles) -- which they couldn't even test (I was driving my daughter's car), and they SIGNED A CONTRACT... I also got $2,000 rebate for taking a loan (which I will pay back in a couple months...)

This morning I brought my good old faithful Accord, they checked it and they liked it and the deal was sealed. I got the Sonata for $10,700 plus tax, title and Doc fee.

    Not bad, ha?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
It just proves "timing is everything"!

I thought the financing rebate was $1000 on the Sonata, plus a $500 general rebate?

Just think, if you already owned a Hyundai the cost would have been $9700!
  • mamamia2mamamia2 Member Posts: 707
I am not sure you could combine more than one rebate, though....

But yes, I was also surprised at the $2,000 rebate, 'cause as much as I remember, only the V6 was (or is it still, extended to February?) eligible for a $2,000, while the 4 cyl. Sonata -- only for $1,000 rebate....

And yes, timing IS significant many times, dealers are much more eager to get rid of inventory at the very end of the month, especialy in a SLOW month, like January...
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
There's five rebates (in my area anyway) that apply to the '06 Sonata, and I am pretty sure you can get all of them if you qualify:

    General rebate: $500 on I4s, $1000 on V6s
HMFC rebate (must finance with Hyundai): $1000
Loyalty rebate (must own a Hyundai): $1000
Military rebate and College Grad rebate: $500 and $400, I don't remember which is which, I don't care because I don't qualify; see hyundaiusa.com for details.

Plus there may be local rebates, e.g. some cities have a rebate in conjunction with the local auto show. In the past there's been a $500 rebate for many cars in my area after the auto show, which is in mid-March. I noticed some buyers are noting this kind of rebate in their "prices paid" reports.
  • proteinkillerproteinkiller Member Posts: 3
I jut got a sonata V6 with sunroof for 18,500 out of door, with inculding 1000 V6 rebate, 1000 HMFC, 500 autoshow and 400 graduate. The price is not that great but I think it is reasonable.
Peoples in this forum has have me quite a lot for the purchase of ths car, especially sgk90 who is so nice. Have no idea whether those rebates will be there in Febrary, but I am sure there will be other promotions quite soon. :)

Folks, just bought a Sonata GL with mats for 15700 OTD. Price includes $2400 in rebates (2K + 400 Grad student). Might have been able to do better. But was in a real hurry to get it. Deal done at Alexandria Hyundai.
  • chan101quachan101qua Member Posts: 26
How do one qualify for the 500 auto show rebate ?

    Thanks,
  • proteinkillerproteinkiller Member Posts: 3
As far as I know, if you are in Houston, you ARE qualified since here is a autoshow going on. Check your local newspaper and to see whether there is one. Or just ask the dealer, they should tell you though.
