Did someone hold a gun to your head and make you sign
the papers? All you had to do was read the contract,
and then tell the finance manager you wanted nothing
additional added. This is what I did, in refusing
scotchguarding, window etching(even though they were
already etched), extended warranties, paint sealant,
etc.,etc. All I got was a little frown from the business
manager as she printed out a new copy of the contract,
with nothing, zip, nada, additional added to the
    car.

Is this the first new car you ever bought? Maybe you
just paid an expensive price for a good lesson. I don't
think the Koreans had anything to do with it, and I
find that comment offensive, even though I am not
Korean. :( You really have only your own ignorance to blame.

BTW, you can probably cancel any of those warranties
up to 60 days after purchasing, and get a full refund.

Without the payment book sent via mail is it possible to refinance immediately?
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
The Korean had nothing to do with it which just further proves your ignorance if you think they did.

You need to pick up a book or read on the internet on how to buy a car. They go into all the scams and tricks.

They were very quick in sending our payment coupons, we made our first payment to HMFC but quickly re-fied and payed off HMFC within a week after our first payment, just rec'd an overpayment check from HFMC a couple days ago. You should have no problem w/ an immediate Refi as long as you provide all the account & vehicle details.

I called HMFC 4 days after buying and they gave me a payoff amount over the phone and I paid it off the 1st week I owned it , final cost about $35. Was told interest was $77 but they sent me a check for overage very quickly.

I'm in the upstate NY area, In my area it seem's all the dealers will take nothing less than $500 over invoice which I could accept. So I started talking to a dealership via the Internet. He quoted me a price of $22,561 as $500 over invoice. This was for a LX no added options. After looking at the prices on the web it looks to me that the price should have been $22,061. When I questioned him he said the price includes destination, advertising and other fees not listed on the web sites. Is he giving me a line to try to get $500 more out of me.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,769
He is probably correct... I wouldn't doubt that he has some type of regional advertising fee on his invoice.. Edmunds.com doesn't include those, because they vary regionally, and not every dealer may have them..

This is the downside to negotiating from "invoice up". The invoice price becomes whatever the dealer says it is.. So, even though he may be correct.. it is still a line to get more money..

Yea, I just thought $500 was way too much, The price is actually $1000 over invoice. I'll have to shop around more.
  • zen2zen2 Member Posts: 226
It might be worth it for you to drive down to Fitgerald
in Md. How far upstate are you? Cochran's in Pittsburgh
Pa. will match Fitzmall.com. I wish I had known that.
I bought mine in NW Pa. I got mine for 200 over actual
invoice, no phony advertising fee. I would definitley shop
    around if I were you.

You're a newbie. Any saleman would be more than happy to have a customer like you.

"Cochran's in Pittsburgh Pa. will match Fitzmall.com"

So did my local dealer in Louisiana. Fitzmall was an excellent bargaining chip and a good starting point for negotiations. My sales person phoned Fitzmall and I listened in as she negotiated the price. All we did was adjust for my local taxes and license to arrive at an out-the-door price. This was the most stress-free buying experience I have ever had, and I got a great deal to boot. She knew better than to even ask me if I wanted Scotchgard, paint, or window treatments. No problem getting the mats and a full tank of gas, and they would have turned on the automatic power locks if I had wanted them.

My dealer and sales person were so nice that I hate to re-do the loan... but I'm going to anyway. ;)

Bobad: Where did you buy your Sonata. I bought mine at Allstar in Baton Rouge and had a pleasant buying experience.
  • matkymatky Member Posts: 6
I just purchased an 06 Sonata LX. What number do I call to pay off the loan form HMFC? :)
  • matkymatky Member Posts: 6
Just purchase a LX Sonata from Beaverton Hyundai in Beaverton Oregon. I got the car $1000.00 under invoice, Plus the $2000 in rebates for a total of $3K under invoice. $500 of the $1K under invoice was the Portland autoshow deal. Speak to the internet sales manager at Beaverton Hyundai.
  • jjones13jjones13 Member Posts: 1
Was that the thomason dealership? How much did you end up paying? I was looking at buying an LX over the weekend and he wouldn't budge below invoice and that included rebates! I am ready to get one but can't find a dealer willing to compete with the prices I see on this site and others.
  • m7chaelm7chael Member Posts: 11
3 weeks after purchase HFMC has no record of my finance. Is this legal or normal?
  • lemonade2lemonade2 Member Posts: 31
It took about 10 days for my loan to be recorded with HMFC. Have you tried using your ss number with their automated system to see if it is on record? this is a way to find out the info on it before you get notification of the account #
  • m7chaelm7chael Member Posts: 11
Spoke with HMFC, tried ss#, no record yet. 18 days. Any requirements that a dealer must register the finance by a certain time?
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
    M7chael:

I had the worst experience with financing. I will spare you all the details, but the short answer is no. HMFC should have your stuff all recorded and back to you in a week or so. Go back to your dealer tomorrow and tell them HFMC doesn't have your stuff yet. They can talk to special reps that you can't. Don't waste any more time I had one heck of a problem my dealer really screwed up.
  • matkymatky Member Posts: 6
Beaverton Hyundai (13255 SW Farmington Rd.), I don't believe they are owned by Thomason anymore. My final price for the LX Package 3 (roof and CD Option) was $20385. The first offer was $300 under, than they added the Autoshow discount of $500. The internet manager then gave me another $200 on top of that. No pressure sales, Speak to the Internet Manager (the drummer). Tell him that his Lumbar customer sent you.
  • m7chaelm7chael Member Posts: 11
Even though the contract lists HMFC could the dealership choose a different finance company and not inform me?
  • markj52markj52 Member Posts: 2
Based on the recommendation of posts #1269 and #1274from January 12th, I contacted Pugi Hyundai of Downers Grove, IL. They were incredible! They DIDN'T play the old game of giving a high price and then whittling away at it. They gave the best price from the start! And that was over the phone. If you live anywhere in the Northern Illinois or Northern Indiana area and you are looking to buy a Hyundai, you owe it to yourself to contact them. I can't post the salesman's name, but if you go to Pugi.com he is listed in the "Contact Us" section. Can't say enough about the entire experience.

I have a quote from a Hyundai dealer near Cleveland.
    It's $15826 + $125 doc + tax, after all the rebates.
    It's a 2006 Sonata GLS with sunroof, 4 Cyl. It's a future
deal though which take effective on the monthend when $500 auto show rebate kicks in.

Rebates include owner, HMFC, and mfc, and auto show.

    How does it sound?
  • mamamia2mamamia2 Member Posts: 707
So what car did you purchase and for what price???
  • mamamia2mamamia2 Member Posts: 707
This is a god deal, I think.

I got my GLS 4 WITHOUT the sunroof for 15,700. But I got it WITHOUT the auto show rebate, and I paid only $57 doc fee, which is mandatory in IL.
  • rgibbyrgibby Member Posts: 1
What did you paid for your car?
  • zen2zen2 Member Posts: 226
Definitely not normal. Your payment is probably due next week. I would call, and ask to speak to a supervisor.
The number can be found on the Hyundai site. I got a
payment coupon in about 10 days.
  • markj52markj52 Member Posts: 2
I did a lease deal on a Sonata LX with Package 3 (sunroof and audio, etc - MSRP $24,895) for $327.76 with first month down and everything else rolled in (taxes at 6.75% + license, etc $198) and all rebates applied. Lease is for 39 months for 15,000 miles/yr and residual of just under $10,000. Looks like they used a vehicle price of $21,695 plus destination charges of $595 = $22,290. And this is the amount on which the sales tax was computed.
  • mamamia2mamamia2 Member Posts: 707
Me too am waiting for that monthly bill from HMFC, and this is the 15th day after purchasing the car... The dealership I bought th car from has been making SO MANY errors with my paperwork (and in general were NOT conducting the sale in a professional manner...), that I don't trust them with sending my information to HMFC....

Hey, Zen, could you please post here the PHONE NUMBER I could use to contact HMFC?

    Thanks so much.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,769
..do not post phone numbers in the forums..

If you need that kind of information, Google is your friend..

Or.. you could just call your dealer..

Will interest accrue for the time prior to HMFC creating my account? I would think not since the delay is the dealership's fault.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
Interest accrues from the time that you sign your contract.

    94hawkskin,

Bobad: Where did you buy your Sonata. I bought mine at Allstar in Baton Rouge and had a pleasant buying experience.

Bought it at Courtesy in Lafayette. Very nice folks. Most stress-free buying experience I ever had. Funny thing is, I sold my wife's Mazda 626 on Friday, and she was on foot! I struck a "tentative" deal on the previous Saturday. Bought the new one the Sat. after selling the old car, so the stakes were very high. My wife doesn't like to ride in my old Toyota pickup. :)

My dealer sent my loan to another bank (meaning not HFMC) (twice) erroneously. Took them a while to admit to it but I had figured it out so it was hard for them to lie. Yes they do use other banks besides HFMC for some people. I do not understand the why of it. But in reality mine was supposed to go to HMFC (not this other bank). It was a total cluster and took me six weeks to fix. The only good thing is I didn't have to pay the first payment for two months. Although I just paid the whole thing off half cash and half from my credit union. I see they they cashed my check I hope my credit union check is not a problem I have to follow up on it.

Who knows what they might do I would call them today and get working on it. I just assumed everything was fine and wasted alot of time.

I did get a free oil change!
  • m7chaelm7chael Member Posts: 11
If true then they can legally sit on it for any number of years?
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
Sorry to be redundant but it warrants it. My dealership really screwed up my financing. The only reason i went thru then initially was for the $1,000 bucks. Man, I ended up earning them!
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
I just contacted HMFC and my loan with them is fully paid off on the first payment. No penalties nor problems. You do not need to wait three months. They said they will mail me the title within 3 weeks.

I thought HMFC was good to deal with.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
I suppose they could, but some finance person would get fired. We don't get paid for the contract until the lender gets it.
  • m7chaelm7chael Member Posts: 11
The dealership is claiming HMFC lost the paperwork but has now found it. I'll confirm this with HMFC. Is there any gov't agency that regulate these transactions? I ask because refinancing will now cost 25 points more.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
I have been dealing with HMFC for a long time now, and I can honestly say they have misplaced something I sent them only once. It is rare, but definitely possible. They are dealing with more business now than ever because of all the bonus cash deals they are doing now.

As far as a government agency regulating this, they haven't done anything wrong. You signed a contract agreeing to X number of payments that will start on X date. Nowhere on that contract did it state that the deal needed to be processed by the bank in 2 days so that you could refinance the loan at a lower interest rate.
  • m7chaelm7chael Member Posts: 11
Not 2 days but 25 days.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
25 days is a long time. But that still doesn't show any intentional wrongdoing on the dealers part. Mistakes do happen. We can never know if the dealer messed up or HMFC. Either way there is no legal recourse here.

Black with Charcoal Grey GLS. Didn't like the Black with White Interior. Wanted the Base V6, wound up with everything but Leather. Price structure was unique. Paid Top dollar for their Car (MSRP plus), was offered an insane trade on my 05 Elantra ($14K), received all 3 $1000 Rebates, and HMFC financing which was a surprise to me. It wound up being about $18K, out the door. However I haven't seen my actual Car yet, as it was being touched up at the touch up place. This car with 35 Miles has been on the lot for 182 days, and was just as much a victim of Hurricane Wilma as I was. One of the worst things I have ever experienced, aside from driving my 2005 Elantra :P

I made an order from port for an '06 Sonata GLS V6 w/ sunroof a couple days ago. Salesperson agreed on this price:

    Selling 19,3##
    Doc 57
    Plate 25
    State tax 1,31#
    County tax 14#
    New plates 78
    Title 65
    Rebate (1,000)
    Finance (1,000)
    Auto show (500)
    -----------------
    Otd 18,5##

I made this order-from-port because I want the manufacture date to be Jan. 06 or newer, for future resale value. Another dealership quoted a lower selling price by $30, but was unable or unwilling to do an order from port. This dealership took a $100 deposit. Salesperson said car should arrive in a couple weeks. I will see.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
Sounds like a great deal Tony!. At first I was told mine came with the Electric Sunroof. It wasn't until they fetched the original invoice did I learn it was the Sports package 5 or 2, the one with the Power seat & the Universal Garage door opener/Compass/Auto Dimming Mirror too. There might be something else, like you I am buying the Car without seeing it. As far as it being one of the newer units, that's where the good price came in! I wonder if the Oil should be changed in a Car that has sat new for 6 months?

If I understand you right, you paid about $4 to 5,000 out of pocket after considering your trade-in?

What's with the "touch up place?"
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Can you say a little more about how a Jan '06 manufacture date helps with resale value? I've never seen manufacture date enter into a resale value calculation unless a car made after a certain date has extra standard features that an older car doesn't. Otherwise it's just based on model year, condition, equipment, and mileage--and maybe a few other things like whether regular maintenance was done, records available etc.

Not really. The Elantra was worth about $9K. The Hyundai Loan needs to be over $10K to qualify for the Rebate, and my loan was $10,100. They are mailing me $800 back. So that where the $18K comes from. As far as it being in the shop. A Coconut could have impaled it for all I know. And then they were telling me about some nut who has shot some of their Cars. South Florida is the land of Hurricanes and Criminals
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
I thought so about the manufacture date. Good to know Backy you're over here as well. When are you taking the Sonata plunge? An Electric seat, yeah!
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Don't know yet if I will go for the Sonata, but it's on the list for when I buy my next car within the next 1-2 years. I was going to get one this spring but decided to go "used" instead because some of the cars that interest me aren't out until later this year. And I'll be driving this next car a long time then handing it off to my daughter, so I need to make the right decision. If the Sonata aces the IIHS tests and incentives continue to be strong, I'll give it a long look.
