I still don't understand what you are trying to say you paid for the new car. Nevermind what you think the Elantra was worth or the amount of the loan. What was the price you paid for the new car, after rebate, and what did they allow for your trade-in? You said $14K.

In other words the new car cost you trade-in plus (how much) cash. Either I'm totally misunderstanding you, having a mental lapse, or you are getting taken for a ride and may want to back out of this "deal" while there is still time.

This is in reply to a post (msg #1259) by hbsprite and goes back a bit in time (1.8.06) but I'll give it a shot anyway. Quoting: "I purchased a 2006 Sonata LX with option package 3 for $20,650 BEFORE any rebates. The MSRP was $23,495...". We've been on a mission for an LX/pkg3 and cannot get anywhere near $20,650 BEFORE rebates. In fact, we had been willing to add about $800 to that figure... and are still looking. Lucky you.
I'm wondering if the numbers have changed dramatically. My notes aren't dated (however, do go back to January for sure) but I have scribbled down here MSRP at $24,895. That was before what appears to be a slight increase in the pkg3 price. Are we talking about the same car here?" The discrepancy would seem to be the pkg3 cost.

About the Jan '06 mf. date, if Car A is an '06 model Sonata made in Jul '05, and Car B is the same model made in Jan '06, when it's resale time 3 yrs from now, do they have the same resale value? If the mileage, condition and equipment are the same? I thought the 6-month difference would be a factor in the resale value calc.

I was at a Volvo dealership last fall. The salesperson was quoting an '04 S60 $3,000 cheaper than an '05 S60. But there was minimal difference between the '04 and '05 S60's.

If they are both '06 models, then the date of manufacture won't mean much (unless you are selling to a buyer with OCD).

Most people only care about the date of sale, as that governs when the warranty will run out... So, if you sold your car in '08 and it had one year of warranty left, it might be worth more to someone than a similar unit that was sold in September, '05.. .that only had six months of warranty left...

The only time I see anyone worry about date of manufacture, is when they are buying leftover units from the last model year from a dealer.. Some people would rather buy a car that has only been on the dealer's lot for 3-4 months, rather than 14-15 months..

That doesn't mean you shouldn't bring it up when you try to sell it.... you may have a budding career as a car salesman!! ;)

Then the resale values would be very different if you buy a '06 Sonata made in Jan '06, and a '07 one made in July or August '06, or whenever it comes out, even though the 06 and '07 ones will be very similar.
When does Hyundai usually have its next year's models?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
That's not an easy question to answer anymore. Until recently, it was the fall, but over the past couple of years Hyundai's product rollouts have been all over the map: Tuscon in the fall, Sonata in the spring, Azera and Accent GLS in early winter, Accent GS/SE in spring, Entourage and Santa Fe in the summer, Elantra probably in the fall or maybe winter,...

But for next-year models of an existing design, they usually come out in the fall.

I was trying to make it easier but here you go:

    GLS V6 with Sport Package

MSRP $24493.96 (*Includes 3M Aftermarket Package)
    Less used car allowance $13,000
    Dealer Fee $599
    Doc Fee $99
    Sales Tax/Surtax $782
    DMV $150
    Rebate $1000
    Rebate $1000
    Rebate $1000
    Consumer Check $800

    Amount Financed $10,132.90
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
You're financing $10,133 and you're getting (got) an $800 consumer check making your net financing $9,333. Trade-in allowance of $13,000 brings the OTD price to $22,333. $932 of that goes to State. So, you actually paid $21,401 to the dealer. Add back $3,000 in rebates and the dealer actually discounted $93 from MSRP...If the "consumer check" of $800 came from the dealership's pocket, then you got an $893 dealer discount off MSRP.

I purchased the car at the end of December. I used the fax attack method from fighting chance dot com. To my knowledge, nothing has changed since then.
  • zen2zen2 Member Posts: 226
He actually got a great deal, since the Elantra tradein
value was only about 9K. So he got a discount of 4K,
plus all the rebates. That's one hell of a deal.
  • averigejoeaverigejoe Member Posts: 559
But you missed the point of the trade-in. He said it was not really worth $13,000. So the "price" of the new car was less than what you calculated.
But, on another note, the 3M package, can not be a legitimate added cost or price to the "MSRP". The MSRP is the number on the Monroney, the manufacturer's window sticker. No dealer adds other than factory equipment on the official window sticker can be said to be part of the MSRP.

Joe absolutely correct!. However the aftermarket sticker was figured into the total selling price of the Car. I would imagine I also paid tax on this somewhat bogus charge, but my figures remain the same!

First, let me say no Black GLS with package 5 for me. It still was at the 'Shop', and after a weekend in a musty dirty loaner Elantra I was told my original Sonata would be in later today or tomorrow. I went there today to return the loaner, and cancel my deal. However...

I told them I would take a Blue LX instead. They were willing to deal if I forgave the $800 Customer Cash. I said no, as my Elantra only had 3000 miles on it anyway. To make a long story short, I have the Deep Water Blue LX, and it looks great! All my Sales figures are posted above. The Car seems amazing :P

Cool deal, my wife & I had our choice between the dark blue & the aquamarine GLS V6, we chose the aquamarine, but both colors look awesome on this car. Glad you're happy w/ your new ride, sounds great!
  • wdlp65wdlp65 Member Posts: 13
Sticker on my 06 LX was $24,945 and I saw yesterday I financed around $25,500. I got $1000.00 off sticker and $3500 in rebates.

My ride is beautiful to say the least, Dark Cinammon with biege leather interior.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Did you mean to say you financed around $20,500? Otherwise the numbers don't make sense.

I can't believe how great the LX seems! I will say the Blue highlights some of my great looking scratches. Very poor Dealer prep, in fact the worst I have ever seen. Yet I walked off the lot saving thousands, might have been my best deal ever. I'm thinking my selling dealer will be going under soon, but life goes on!. The Tires & Rims on the LX are great, the electronic rear view mirror/compass/garage door opener will probably be a pain. I do enjoy seeing the direction projected in the glass. My Subaru was different. The Trip computer is great, it tells your MPG, and how many miles you have worth of Gas. The auto climate system seems to work great. The 6 Disc MP3 upgrade will hold about 4 Gig of music. and the Leather is nicer than I had read about. You just melt into the back seats, really soft! I started out just thinking Base GLS Sonata , and wound up with the top of the crop. Thanks for the kind words, everyone should get one of these!

I purchased my Sonata LX :) 9 days ago. Finally go a hold a someone at HMFC that could give me my pay-off amount. Sent out final payment today. Total interest paid $73.00.
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
I sent them an email over their website and they came right back with a pay off amount. They wern't my problem it was the stupid dealership.
  • andraeandrae Member Posts: 18
I just bought a the LX with the sunroof and cd changer for $19,595. Taxes and fees brought the out the door price to $21,262.33 which includes free car washes for as long as I own the car and a free loaner during the warranty period. I'm thinking it was a great deal considering the MSRP was $24,895. I could have bought it for $45 less but the dealer was 30 miles away, not worth the trip.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
I too am prepared to pay off the $10K that I have financed on the new LX. Although I've had temporary money flow problems, it seems I've passed that 2 day threshold, where my financing could have wound up with any lender. If that happened I was told I would lose the rebate. In fact I was told you need to hold the HMFC loan for 60 days to qualify for the rebate?.

If I receive my $800 "Consumer Cash" back from my Dealer as stated in our Contract, I will have wound up with a premium LX for $19,300 out the door if I can accept that my 05 Elantra was worth $10K as a trade, or $18,300, if the 05 Elantra was worth $9K, as KBB says. My deal took a very strange turn for the better, and my figures are now certified!

Played my first Data Mp3 Disc in the changer today, and the player was not happy. Then played some other Data and Audio Discs, and the sound was incredible!. I think I need a better Burner in my Dell, as the Hyundai player seems and sounds just fine!

Looking for a 2006 Sonata GLS V6 and qualify for the $3000 of rebates.

    1. What is the best price I should expect in Georgia?

    2. With the financing through HMFC, can you get the 4.5% rate for 60 months and the $1,000 rebate?

    3. If the response to 1 is no, what is the rate being offered by HMFC with excellent credit?

    4. Does HMFC compute interest under the Rule of 78's i.e, front loading the interest for a built in prepayment penalty, or is computed using simple interest.

    5. What is the doc fee that is being paid in Ga. In Atlanta, its over $500. Since this is just additional profit to the dealer, has anyone purchased in Ga. with something substantially lower?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for your guidance.

I'm new to this forum, but have a question that I don't think has been raised before...

If I buy a new Sonata, I would certainly take advantage of the $1000 HMFC rebate, but would pay off the loan ASAP to avoid the high interest finance charges.

Assuming the car will cost $20,000, couldn't I make a down payment of $19,500 and finance only $500 to qualify for the HMFC rebate? This would dramatically reduce any finance charges. Is this allowed?

I saw TV commercials about the extra $500 rebate for the Chicago Auto Show. But when I called Hyundai's service number, the people were not even aware of this rebate. Does anyone know how auto show rebates work? Are they usually offered by the manufacturers, or by local dealers as a sales trick?
  • lightfootfllightfootfl Member Posts: 442
I think the rebate requirement is $10,000.00 financed.

I am looking to buy a Sonata GLS 4 cylinder with no options or accessories added. What are the lowest prices people have gotten in the D/FW area? I am also considering a GLS V6 or an LX if the deal is good enough. I have seen an ad from the newspaper online at another site (the dealer name was chopped off) advertising $4400 under invoice (that's including the $1000 Hyundai loyalty, $500 military, and $400 college student discounts/rebates). Has anyone even gotten close to that deal? Is it even real? If this deal is for real and only for the higher profit margin LX, I would get it even if I really prefer the GLS 4 cylinder.
  • mjchsfmjchsf Member Posts: 16
Hyundai offers a $400 college graduate rebate for Sonata. However, I was told if I get the $1,000 financing rebate, I cannot get the college graduate rebate. Is this right? Has anyone got both rebates?
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
My dealership told me there was no minimum. They could be wrong I wasn't really impressed with them but the same thought you have crossed my mind too. I just financed totally with them and paid it all right off.
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
I have a hard time believing that. I got the 500 rebate for a 4cyl car, 1,000 for the financing and 500 military discount. I would talk directly to Hyundai in CA or go to another dealer.

I just bought an LX yesterday. When I met with the finance manager he told me that the interest rate was 7.49% and that rate was based on the fact that I took all available rebates (my lowest credit score came in at 769). He was basically saying that I would either have a higher rate and a rebate or a low rate with no rebate.
I told him I thought the rate was high but didn't really care because I had an offer from my bank at 6.2%. He asked me if I was going to refinance and I told him of course so he matched the rate the bank was going to give me. Everything is negotiable.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
It's not surprising that Hyundai's main office would not know about a local auto show rebate; it is a regional thing. But your local dealer should know all about it. In my experience, it's no trick--I saved $500 on an Elantra two years ago using a rebate coupon from my local auto show.

My Leather Rapped Manual holder comes with a cool Hyundai Pen. Looks like a slim Silver & Gold Cross pen. I plan on making it my favorite pen until I lose it!

I've played discs in my MP3 player burned from my Dell and they have worked fine.
  • 94hawkskin94hawkskin Member Posts: 116
My MP3 discs that I burned on my Dell also play fine. My only problem is that when I press the Text button it doesn't display the Album or Artist Information. Did I do something wrong in the process. It does display the song title but doesn't scroll.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
Mine seems to be doing better!. It's a known fact that some CD-R's & CD-RW's don't play well in Home & Car units. However I have suspected my el cheapo Dell Inspiron 1000 to have a questionable burner for some time now. About the Text readout, mine works without having to press anything, isn't that how it should be?. I will say the upgraded Stereo unit with the sub woofer sounds great. Where's the sub woofer? I still haven't got to the Manual yet!

That's funny. Every time I get a nice pen I lose it almost immediately. On the other hand I have this $.19 Bic that I have had for several years!!!

That's OK, I'm still trying to find this 'text' button. Just opened the Manual last night, learned lots about tethering Babies

Perhaps you could elaborate on this deal for me (and possibly other readers here). Maybe it's my old age or something, but I find it very trying to work 'back' from OTD pricing. (1) What was the agreed-upon sale price of the vehicle, THEN (2) what were all the applicable rebates, etc. (DEDUCTED from that sale price)? Obviously taxes/fees will vary and taxes generally apply to the rebate portion as well. Where we're located (rural IL) the closest dealer IS 30 miles away! I'm sure this has a bunch to do with why we can't seem to score any sort of "deal".

It's just more helpful if it's all spelled out step by step. No harm, no foul... and nice dealing!

I'm headed to my area dealer tommorrow to see what they will do for me.I am prepared to pay 21000.00 with the 2 rebates included...for the LX with sunroof package. They sent me an email saying they have the color I want on their lot for AS LOW AS 21000.00...Now what "AS LOW AS" really means ,I will soon find out.The television is filled with Hyundai commericals stating that they are having 4000.00 in rebates on the Sonata till Feb 28th.Does anyone know what that extra 1000.00 is rebated for...I cant find an extra 1000.00 on any Hyndai websites. :confuse:
  • tenpin288tenpin288 Member Posts: 804
That extra $1000 is only available on remaining stock of the XG350. Darn that fine print!
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Go in there knowing what you are willing to pay. Don't take their price...tell them what you are willing to pay. You should be able to get the car at or near invoice before rebates. Rebates do not reflect any dealer "discount." Do not consider any adv fee added to the invoice as a part of invoice price.

I don't have the nunmbers handy, but if for example MSRP is $23,500 and invoice is $21,800, you should be able to buy the car for about $21,800 minus any rebates you qualify for plus taxes and other state fees. Do not pay any documentation or advertising fee on top of the $21,800 (in this example).
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
Of course those numbers were from Canada, came from a really nice article about the Canadian Sonata. In fact all the articles I've read are pretty darn positive about the Car!. Talking numbers I like someone brought up the fact that everything is negotiable.

And this is good advice to work with too, even though fees are usually built into the contract:

":I don't have the numbers handy, but if for example MSRP is $23,500 and invoice is $21,800, you should be able to buy the car for about $21,800 minus any rebates you qualify for plus taxes and other state fees. The best deal can only be found by being in the right place at the right time!. I am still amazed at what I paid for my LX, next to nothing with the Elantra 05 trade. Today I got it Buffed and Waxed, and it rained here in South Florida during the application. The good thing is I return next Week for another free Wash/Wax, and paint touch up application. The Car came thrashed from the lot. We have had many deadly storms here in the past 6 months. And even if we have another Rain event, the Sonata has 6.5 Inches of ground clearance!

Just bought my new car yesterday! My first brand new car!

I paid $19200 OTD on long island, NY. Price includes $1000+$1000+$400(graduate rebate). It should be a fair price here. The dealer is Atlantic Hyundai. The salesman told me they are the largest Hyundai dealer in north america with >1000 cars in stock - I don't believe that. But they are big indeed. The funny thing is, when I say I can pay in cash,..., the salesmand immediate suggest me to finance and then payoff the loan at as soon as possible! Even when I'm in the financial office, that funny guy also pursade me to payoff as soon as possible, and he doesn't even push me for any add-ons, just 2 minutes there, that's funny. I'm sure thats not because they have earnt enough on me :P
