I have now managed to convince myself that I am prepared to step up to an Azera. It just seems like so much more car for the extra money. I have used a Fizgerald reference deal to get a local dealer within $300 of them. As long as the local dealer does not try to add extra fees then I will most likely take the deal and avoid the 500 mile drive.
I guess I am going to go read the Azera prices paid forum postings and see what I can learn from them.
Northtowne Hyundai Kansas City Mo. 21,127 plus TTL
Car City Motors Saint Joseph in MO 20,800 plus TTL
any one of these are good people to work with.....
I am going to buy the 2007 Sonata Limited no options. I'm looking for a price and in reading the forums I find that the prices listed on purchase are all over the place. The OTD does not help any one in determining a good price.
For example, the doc fee in NYS is mandated at $49. In NJ, it's whatever the dealer thinks he can get away with. The difference is several hundred dollars.
A lot of dealers pin stripe and window etch their cars and charge several hundred dollars (ripoff). There are too many dealer charges that OTD becomes meaningless.
In New York City, every dealer (Hyundai) has charges filed against them for deceptive practices. It's a tough game to beat.
I have read the "prices paid forum" several times and I still can't determine what the price is for the 2007 Sonata, no options.
The reason OTD prices are interesting to look at, is we can see the complete amount the victim paid.
There is no one special price to determine. If there was it wouldn't really be special, would it?.
Every Hyundai Dealer in your City has had charges filed for deceptive practices?.
Without a breakdown of all the various charges it's just about worthless.
....I have read the "prices paid forum" several times and I still can't determine what the price is for the 2007 Sonata, no options....
Start with the invoice price and subtract out the rebates.
Know the dealer incentive and holdback...but remember the salesman is entitled to some commission and the owner has to make a profit.
And where do you go to "Know the dealer incentive and holdback" Jack?
Is the Infinity worth it? Probably not but it sure sounds better than the base stereo and I had no choice as the car I wanted with the special paint (Powder White Pearl Metallic) was fully loaded. The Infinity option is what it is and comes with the built-in changer. They had what I wanted and after about 15 minutes I drove the car for a steal! With an MSRP of $25,595, I am very pleased with my purchase.
Thanks
Unit is selling for $180 with FREE shipping. This is the best deal I could find after all my researching.

Manufacturer to Dealer Programs
While Cash Rebates, Low Interest Financing, and Special Leases are made available directly to the buyer, manufacturer to dealer Marketing Support is made available exclusively to the franchised dealer for use in marketing their vehicles. Most commonly represented as a Dealer Cash Incentive from the manufacturer, dealers may or may not choose to pass some part of this Marketing Support money on to their customers. Frequently, the salesperson will not even be aware of dealer marketing support programs, but, not to worry ýour Edmunds.com True Market Value price has already taken these programs into account.
I had gotten an email quote from a Manhattan Dealer for the Sonata Limited, no options of $19000. I will be going there Wednesday. The dealer in Long Island started to play the manager's game. After the 2nd time, I walked out. The dealer in Queens quoted $18500 if I take the color black and if I sign up today using the standard, "How can I earn your business. I said no, I'll decide tomorrow. The salesman retorted with, "The deal may not be available tomorrow." My response, "Then I won't buy a car."
I asked to see a copy of the purchase order and low and behold a new dealer charge was preprinted on the cover sheet. Delivery Fee-$439. Last year this fee was called Documentation Fee with a state mandated $45. My, my, the times sure are changing.
The dealership I did NOT buy from a year and a half ago wanted to show me the invoice, so I could see what a good deal he was offering. Everything on the invoice was printed in standard lettering. At the bottom, in bold print was an advertising fee of $500 to be added to the dealer's "great price". Some say the adv fee is legitimate in some areas. But why was it bold faced on the "invoice" that dealer insisted on showing me?
I never asked to see the invoice since I knew approx how much the car should sell for, but the salesman wanted to show the invoice price (with the phony charge) in an attempt to show a great deal which would have cost about $1500 more than I paid 1300 miles away.
I know you sell Insurance. I had no idea that my State Farm Agent can still service me if I move to another State?.
How'd you go about negotiating down that far?
OTD: $19500 + extended warranty bumper to bumper for 100,000 Miles or 10 Years + One year free oil exchange (the latter I got as as I showed un-satisfaction about the way the finance dept ... they did 2 mistakes and had to go back to sign)
Color: Golden Beige
Dealer: Best Hyundai / Hwy 59 south
Notes:
• Sales Taxes in TX: 6.25
• Rear bumper had a fine scratch. Dealer did a great job and got it like new (took them some time, but they gave me a Mazda 6 2006 free with gas for 5 days).
• Salesman called more than once to make sure that I’m satisfied and to assure that he would help any time in case I have any problem ( ?????? rare nowadays).
May be the deal is not the best, but I feel good about the dealer and the way they treat their customers.
$23,800 OTD. I have been trying to negotiate the price and none of them
want to bring it lower. I offered them a price of $21,900 OTD considering this to be the
the end of the month and Oct. Also showed one dealer an email saying that one dealer in NY (long Island) was willing to offer me the car at that price, he wished me best and asked me to buy the car from him.
I guess hyundai dealers in NY, NJ are pretty rigid and dont want to budge or the Hyundai cars in these states are selling a lot and thats the reason they dont want to lower the price.
I was recently quoted less than $19K for a 2007 Sonata Limited from Pugi. That's where I bought a 2006 Elantra GLS sedan last December ($13,700 OTD) , and they are really great people. No BS, no extraneous fees, and they list every line item amount in plain English - plus dealer Doc fee is only $25.
Go to their website - do a Google search - and, e-mail their internet sales department. It will be well worth your time.
Was the quote you metioned less than $19K for a 2007 Sonata Limited with Ultimate package ?
I will certainly be sending out an email today asking for a quote from them, as you mentioned i think its worth the effort to fly down to IL and drive the car back from there especially if you are going to save that much of money.
Any insight on whether I am correct on this? If they sell for less than that, they will lose money and no one will lose money on the sale of a car without factory support. The cheapest I could get a 2007 Limited without the paint premium and Ultimate package was $19,100
I was actively shopping this car the last 2 days of the month. Unfortunately this doesn't give you enough time to make a decision without being pressured. So I didn't buy. I will shop again the end of November but this time I will allow myself at least 5 days to play the circus again.
The cliches are so annoying:
"What do I have to do to earn your business?"
"If I beat your price are you ready to sign the deal?"
On and on-don't salesmen get tired using the same dumb old lines I heard a century ago?
My observations:
Don't waste your time with referrals from Costco, BJ's, Credit Unions, on line web sites such as Edmunds, Cars Direct, Fitzmall, etc.
All referrals are to give dealers free leads. I was told by several salesmen referrals mean nothing, you still have to negotiate. The end of the month may be meaningful dollar wise. You can do better just using email rather than fax or telephone.
These are the last three quotes I got in NYC:
1. $19999
2. $18500
3. $17968
I rejected all three because in NYC the new gimmick printed on the purchase order is a Delivery Fee of $439. And this does not include the documentation fee of $45.
What will they think of next?
I'm not sure the last quote is not a low ball. I will check it out tomorrow.
One other item that's printed on the PO:
Waste Tire Mgmt Fee $2.50 per tire.
If there is no trade in do you still pay this to the state?
Run...run...run like the wind my friend and go get it now before they change their mind :shades:
$18898 for the Sonata Limited Standard.
There are better prices on this forum.
If that's the case, then I will either wait or start to look at other brands.
Hyundai has put themselves in a box: without the rebates their sales will suffer.
Good job my friend! Be extremely happy as I am not aware of anyone else that was able to get a similar deal as I did.
Enjoy your new car
The dealer did admit this was deceptive. It turns out that the price included all rebates: college graduate, active military, Hyundai ownership, and the general rebate. This was not stated in the email.
My advantage is I don't need a car so it's easy for me to walk which I did. I did spend 3 days chasing my tail trying to buy a car. It was one scam after another here in NYC and Long Island.
The revised price invoice minus 1500 rebate
Anyways, i have decided that it would be best to purchase the car from another state.
Will see how things shape up and keep my options open.
Thanks
Will you be buying the car from Springfield Hyundai in PA? Did the price of the car include options like mud guards, carpet mats ? Since all rebates ended on the 31st of Oct, i guess the above price does not include the rebate.
I'm thinking of buying and 06/07 as well but I was really looking for a more connective stereo option in a new car. I have an 03 Sonata GLS with an Alpine 9833 with the Ipod hookup and it works well, but the fit in the dash is far from perfect.
How do you find the look/fit of your aftermarket install, did you go for a single of double din head?
Thanks so much for the information.
Glenn
Last year I made the NJ circuit, Global, Towne, Maxon. As Hyundai dealers they sure could teach NY dealers some tricks.
It was a bad experience. They were very creative when it came to the Documentation Fee since it is not capped by the State as it is in NY. And then every car in stock comes with pin striping and window etch. In general the NJ salesman were obnoxious.
It seems to me the only thing you can do is negotiate, negotiate, and then negotiate again. If it's not your deal, then walk. DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED. Salesmen know very little other than to lie. They are such jerks. But they do control the deal.
