Yes and they have been for the past year.

You are correct, I did not notice that 'heritage' had specified that the price was OTD. This make a $1300 difference for 6% MI sales tax.

I have now managed to convince myself that I am prepared to step up to an Azera. It just seems like so much more car for the extra money. I have used a Fizgerald reference deal to get a local dealer within $300 of them. As long as the local dealer does not try to add extra fees then I will most likely take the deal and avoid the 500 mile drive.

I guess I am going to go read the Azera prices paid forum postings and see what I can learn from them. :D :shades:

I am considering a Hyundai Sonata Limited with the Ultimate package this weekend. The only other option is the deluxe stereo for 1200.00 The problem is that I want blue tooth and more importantly a MP3 player input. I know that I could get a stock unit and add a better stereo, subwoofer, and better speakers for less than that amount. Anyone do anything like this before? Is there anyway to get the infinity package without the changer and the radio itself?
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
You know I don't know, as I have the 06 LX. What I can say is the upgraded 6 Disc Changer with powered Sub woofer was only $599, and you had to buy the sunroof too for another $600.
  • dump_truckdump_truck Member Posts: 42
on the 07 the moonroof and stereo upgrade are offered as the 'ultimate package'. it's an all or nothing kinda deal. it's not 1200 just for the stereo, it for both the stereo and the moonroof. I had no interest in the sound upgrade when I purchased mine, as I knew I would be upgrading everything anyway because of a lack of an aux-in, but I wanted the moonroof so I was stuck. So I got what I wanted(moonroof), and replaced the headunit. and the infinity, while decent, is not anything to slave over. upgraded stereos in cars today in almost all cases, are made by the OEM division of whatever company (infinity, bose, jvc, etc.). these products are a far cry from the 'real' products these same companies send to your local best buy etc.

What is the feeling about deposits. Can you buy a car without a deposit. I have had problems getting my deposit on deals that went bad.

I am going to buy the 2007 Sonata Limited no options. I'm looking for a price and in reading the forums I find that the prices listed on purchase are all over the place. The OTD does not help any one in determining a good price.

For example, the doc fee in NYS is mandated at $49. In NJ, it's whatever the dealer thinks he can get away with. The difference is several hundred dollars.

A lot of dealers pin stripe and window etch their cars and charge several hundred dollars (ripoff). There are too many dealer charges that OTD becomes meaningless.

In New York City, every dealer (Hyundai) has charges filed against them for deceptive practices. It's a tough game to beat.

I have read the "prices paid forum" several times and I still can't determine what the price is for the 2007 Sonata, no options.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
Deposit?. Why would you think of placing a deposit down?. Then you would be locked into buying from that one Dealer.

The reason OTD prices are interesting to look at, is we can see the complete amount the victim paid.

There is no one special price to determine. If there was it wouldn't really be special, would it?.

Every Hyundai Dealer in your City has had charges filed for deceptive practices?.

....The OTD does not help any one in determining a good price....

Without a breakdown of all the various charges it's just about worthless.

....I have read the "prices paid forum" several times and I still can't determine what the price is for the 2007 Sonata, no options....

Start with the invoice price and subtract out the rebates.

Know the dealer incentive and holdback...but remember the salesman is entitled to some commission and the owner has to make a profit.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
There is no one price Jack?. Yes, start at the Invoice price and subtract any Cash incentives. And that is where your best possible deal ends. You are not entitled to any part of the Dealer incentive & holdback if you are paying true invoice. If you want to pay the MSRP, and then subtract the rebate(s), then yes there is some wiggle room. ;)

And where do you go to "Know the dealer incentive and holdback" Jack?

I bought a 2007 Sonata Limited with the Ultimate package for $20,770 back in mid-August. I added a super Motorola bluetooth kit with full voice recognition and it works GREAT! Bought it for $175 on the Internet and took about 2 hours to put it in so it looks like a factory install.

Is the Infinity worth it? Probably not but it sure sounds better than the base stereo and I had no choice as the car I wanted with the special paint (Powder White Pearl Metallic) was fully loaded. The Infinity option is what it is and comes with the built-in changer. They had what I wanted and after about 15 minutes I drove the car for a steal! With an MSRP of $25,595, I am very pleased with my purchase.
  • txn428txn428 Member Posts: 41
Congrats on your purchase. I had purchased a 2007 Sonata SE 2 weeks ago for $19,275 plus TTL and looking to get a bluetooth car kit. What model is your bluetooth car kit? Is it hard to install?

    Thanks
  • cableguy06cableguy06 Member Posts: 299
See the attached link. Great unit...my second one I was so pleased with the one I installed in my Honda van. Only a three wire hookup...battery, ignition and ground. Can be put in easily in a few hours if your handy and have worked on cars before. Worst case, car audio shops around here want $100 to do the install.

Unit is selling for $180 with FREE shipping. This is the best deal I could find after all my researching.

You can find info on manufacturer-to-dealer incentives and holdbacks at Edmunds.com, for one.

I clicked on Sonata, and there was nothing listed for the Dealer

    Manufacturer to Dealer Programs

While Cash Rebates, Low Interest Financing, and Special Leases are made available directly to the buyer, manufacturer to dealer Marketing Support is made available exclusively to the franchised dealer for use in marketing their vehicles. Most commonly represented as a Dealer Cash Incentive from the manufacturer, dealers may or may not choose to pass some part of this Marketing Support money on to their customers. Frequently, the salesperson will not even be aware of dealer marketing support programs, but, not to worry ýour Edmunds.com True Market Value price has already taken these programs into account.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Maybe because there aren't any such programs on the 2007 Sonata right now. There were some on the 2006 Sonata earlier this year.

Went to 2 dealers, one in Long Island and the other in Queens.

I had gotten an email quote from a Manhattan Dealer for the Sonata Limited, no options of $19000. I will be going there Wednesday. The dealer in Long Island started to play the manager's game. After the 2nd time, I walked out. The dealer in Queens quoted $18500 if I take the color black and if I sign up today using the standard, "How can I earn your business. I said no, I'll decide tomorrow. The salesman retorted with, "The deal may not be available tomorrow." My response, "Then I won't buy a car."

I asked to see a copy of the purchase order and low and behold a new dealer charge was preprinted on the cover sheet. Delivery Fee-$439. Last year this fee was called Documentation Fee with a state mandated $45. My, my, the times sure are changing.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
What are you waiting for man?. I hope you put that 'Deposit' down. You won't do better than $18.5K plus a $439 fee. I paid less for a new loaded 06 LX, but it was a series of mistakes, similar to you not picking up that Black Limited. :confuse: :confuse: :confuse:
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
All those dealer fees are a rip-off. It's not like the dealers can't print up their own sheets or add to a manufacturer sheet.

The dealership I did NOT buy from a year and a half ago wanted to show me the invoice, so I could see what a good deal he was offering. Everything on the invoice was printed in standard lettering. At the bottom, in bold print was an advertising fee of $500 to be added to the dealer's "great price". Some say the adv fee is legitimate in some areas. But why was it bold faced on the "invoice" that dealer insisted on showing me?

I never asked to see the invoice since I knew approx how much the car should sell for, but the salesman wanted to show the invoice price (with the phony charge) in an attempt to show a great deal which would have cost about $1500 more than I paid 1300 miles away.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
That is why I am a big OTD fan!. I'll gladly pay those bogus fees, if the selling price of the Unit it adjusted correctly. I know you know how to buy a Car, many others have no clue when it comes to fees. And if the fee is Pre printed, it takes additional skill(s) to get your best deal.

I know you sell Insurance. I had no idea that my State Farm Agent can still service me if I move to another State?.
  • phillips27phillips27 Member Posts: 5
I was thinkin of buying the same exact car, with the ultimate package and everything... I'll be lucky to get 3 grand off it, let alone 5... haha

How'd you go about negotiating down that far?
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
There is more wiggle room then you would think on the Sonata!. I bought a 06 LX with all available options, and paid $18.7K, and that included $700 in Tax, a $499 Dealer fee, and yes that was the OTD nice price :) . Currently there is a $1500 rebate on the 07 V6 model, but you knew that. Currently there is a $2500 rebate on the 06 V6 models. Add an extra $500 if you are a loyal Hyundai owner, or if you have a Car show coupon. Take about $2000 off MSRP and you are at Invoice. Take the consumer incentives, and you are close to $4000, or $5000 off from the MSRP. If you purchase at the end of the month, or at a time where a sale must be made for reasons too numerous to mention, it is also possible you can receive some of the Manufacturer to Dealer cash. Oh sure it exists, but generally not for the Customer.

Car: Sonata SE 2007 (nothing extra)
OTD: $19500 + extended warranty bumper to bumper for 100,000 Miles or 10 Years + One year free oil exchange (the latter I got as as I showed un-satisfaction about the way the finance dept ... they did 2 mistakes and had to go back to sign)
    Color: Golden Beige
Dealer: Best Hyundai / Hwy 59 south

    Notes:
    • Sales Taxes in TX: 6.25
    • Rear bumper had a fine scratch. Dealer did a great job and got it like new (took them some time, but they gave me a Mazda 6 2006 free with gas for 5 days).
    • Salesman called more than once to make sure that I’m satisfied and to assure that he would help any time in case I have any problem ( ?????? rare nowadays).

May be the deal is not the best, but I feel good about the dealer and the way they treat their customers.

I got a couple of quotes from NJ, for a 2007 Sonata Limited with Ultimate Package, one dealer quoted $23,075 OTD and the other quoted
$23,800 OTD. I have been trying to negotiate the price and none of them
want to bring it lower. I offered them a price of $21,900 OTD considering this to be the
the end of the month and Oct. Also showed one dealer an email saying that one dealer in NY (long Island) was willing to offer me the car at that price, he wished me best and asked me to buy the car from him.

I guess hyundai dealers in NY, NJ are pretty rigid and dont want to budge or the Hyundai cars in these states are selling a lot and thats the reason they dont want to lower the price.
  • w9cww9cw Member Posts: 888
I would suggest you schedule a one-way flight to Chicago O'Hare (ORD) from either LGA or EWR, and buy from Pugi Hyundai/Mazda/VW in Downers Grove, IL. You will pay substantially less than your NJ and NY dealers. Remember, the warranty is a Hyundai corporate warranty, and must be honored at any authorized Hyundai dealer.

I was recently quoted less than $19K for a 2007 Sonata Limited from Pugi. That's where I bought a 2006 Elantra GLS sedan last December ($13,700 OTD) , and they are really great people. No BS, no extraneous fees, and they list every line item amount in plain English - plus dealer Doc fee is only $25.

Go to their website - do a Google search - and, e-mail their internet sales department. It will be well worth your time.
  • dudenjdudenj Member Posts: 14
Thank you w9cw for you your reply.

Was the quote you metioned less than $19K for a 2007 Sonata Limited with Ultimate package ?

I will certainly be sending out an email today asking for a quote from them, as you mentioned i think its worth the effort to fly down to IL and drive the car back from there especially if you are going to save that much of money.
  • cableguy06cableguy06 Member Posts: 299
I cannot imagine that that includes the Ultimate package. The package alone adds over $1500. I would suspect that with the package the car will come in at around $20,500.

Any insight on whether I am correct on this? If they sell for less than that, they will lose money and no one will lose money on the sale of a car without factory support. The cheapest I could get a 2007 Limited without the paint premium and Ultimate package was $19,100
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Speaking of saving money, check out Midway also--several low-cost airlines like Southwest fly in there.
  • phillips27phillips27 Member Posts: 5
I'm in PA as well. I just requested to see Springfield Hyundai's no haggle price for their Sonata... 21,295... without tax/tags/title... I'm pretty sure I can negotiate lower than that. Today would've been a good time to go up (End of the month), but I didn't get around to it.
  • phillips27phillips27 Member Posts: 5
Also, http://www.autosite.com/content/research/vir/index.cfm/vehicle_number_int/101957- 8/Action/Options has the invoice at 22,627. I got a no haggle price for 21,295... I actually may consider accepting, instead of trying to negotiate downward
  • sliggsligg Member Posts: 109
Sonata Unlimited in steel gray, black interior which by the way is not available in the NYC area.

I was actively shopping this car the last 2 days of the month. Unfortunately this doesn't give you enough time to make a decision without being pressured. So I didn't buy. I will shop again the end of November but this time I will allow myself at least 5 days to play the circus again.

    The cliches are so annoying:
"What do I have to do to earn your business?"
"If I beat your price are you ready to sign the deal?"

On and on-don't salesmen get tired using the same dumb old lines I heard a century ago?

    My observations:

Don't waste your time with referrals from Costco, BJ's, Credit Unions, on line web sites such as Edmunds, Cars Direct, Fitzmall, etc.

All referrals are to give dealers free leads. I was told by several salesmen referrals mean nothing, you still have to negotiate. The end of the month may be meaningful dollar wise. You can do better just using email rather than fax or telephone.

These are the last three quotes I got in NYC:
    1. $19999
    2. $18500
    3. $17968

I rejected all three because in NYC the new gimmick printed on the purchase order is a Delivery Fee of $439. And this does not include the documentation fee of $45.

What will they think of next?

I'm not sure the last quote is not a low ball. I will check it out tomorrow.

One other item that's printed on the PO:

Waste Tire Mgmt Fee $2.50 per tire.

If there is no trade in do you still pay this to the state?
  • cableguy06cableguy06 Member Posts: 299
Sligg, if you can by a 2007 Limited for $17,968 and add on the $484 for delivery fee and documentation, you are still at only $18,452...that's a STEAL my friend if they'll actually sell it to you at that price which I find incredible and hard to believe.

Run...run...run like the wind my friend and go get it now before they change their mind :shades:
  • w9cww9cw Member Posts: 888
dudenj - Price for the 2007 Sonata Limited was $18,465 with carpet and trunk mats options before tax, title, and license, but including applicable rebates and dealer fees. This quote did not include the Ultimate Package. Still a reasonable deal however, I think. It still may be worth your while to contact Pugi. They typically respond by e-mail in a reasonable amount of time.
  • sliggsligg Member Posts: 109
Got an email quote from Pugi

$18898 for the Sonata Limited Standard.

There are better prices on this forum.
  • phillips27phillips27 Member Posts: 5
I have a question. I've received a new no haggle price for 21,820 from the Hyundai dealership. It is about 400 dollars below their invoice... That price is AFTER the 1500 dollar rebate has been put in. How far below invoice can I go before the dealer actually loses money on the deal? Should I add the rebate onto the invoice price to get a valid comparison between invoice and my price?
  • sliggsligg Member Posts: 109
There are no rebates for November according to the Hyundai website for the Sonata or any other auto.

If that's the case, then I will either wait or start to look at other brands.

Hyundai has put themselves in a box: without the rebates their sales will suffer.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
The rebates take a couple of days to show up on the web site--they should be there in another day or so.
  • phillips27phillips27 Member Posts: 5
Negotiated my way into 20,600 for the 07 Limited w/ the Ultimate Package. I'm picking it up Saturday because they didn't have the color I wanted. I took a different one for a test drive and it rides absolutely fantastic, and the infinity sound system is definitely worth the money. Can't wait to pick up my car Saturday morning.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Just curious, per above discussion... what kind of rebates if any did they include in the pricing?
  • cableguy06cableguy06 Member Posts: 299
That's a GREAT deal. I paid $20,770 for the same exact car except mine has the $200 premium paint color which has a dealer invoice of $170.

Good job my friend! Be extremely happy as I am not aware of anyone else that was able to get a similar deal as I did.

    Enjoy your new car :D
  • sliggsligg Member Posts: 109
The $17968 is a booby trap. They got a referral from Edmunds and they send an email quoting this phony price just to get you into the dealer.

The dealer did admit this was deceptive. It turns out that the price included all rebates: college graduate, active military, Hyundai ownership, and the general rebate. This was not stated in the email.

My advantage is I don't need a car so it's easy for me to walk which I did. I did spend 3 days chasing my tail trying to buy a car. It was one scam after another here in NYC and Long Island.

The revised price invoice minus 1500 rebate
  • dudenjdudenj Member Posts: 14
I hear you sligg, its the same case here in NJ. I really don't know whats up with these dealers here.

Anyways, i have decided that it would be best to purchase the car from another state.
  • dudenjdudenj Member Posts: 14
Thank you w9cw for the info, i will probbally wait until the end of the month before i buy the car. I would consider buying the car from Pugi as an option, its going to be about 900 mile drive back for me, i guess a couple of people have got some good deals in PA the last couple of days.

Will see how things shape up and keep my options open.

    Thanks
  • dudenjdudenj Member Posts: 14
Phillips27, congrats on scoring a good deal !

Will you be buying the car from Springfield Hyundai in PA? Did the price of the car include options like mud guards, carpet mats ? Since all rebates ended on the 31st of Oct, i guess the above price does not include the rebate.
  • gstern94gstern94 Member Posts: 9
    Hi,

I'm thinking of buying and 06/07 as well but I was really looking for a more connective stereo option in a new car. I have an 03 Sonata GLS with an Alpine 9833 with the Ipod hookup and it works well, but the fit in the dash is far from perfect.

How do you find the look/fit of your aftermarket install, did you go for a single of double din head?

Thanks so much for the information.

  • sliggsligg Member Posts: 109
What state are you thinking of? And why would it be any different? I contacted Fitzmall in Maryland and there price was comparable but they wanted $500 to deliver the car to NYC.

Last year I made the NJ circuit, Global, Towne, Maxon. As Hyundai dealers they sure could teach NY dealers some tricks.

It was a bad experience. They were very creative when it came to the Documentation Fee since it is not capped by the State as it is in NY. And then every car in stock comes with pin striping and window etch. In general the NJ salesman were obnoxious.

It seems to me the only thing you can do is negotiate, negotiate, and then negotiate again. If it's not your deal, then walk. DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED. Salesmen know very little other than to lie. They are such jerks. But they do control the deal.
  • dump_truckdump_truck Member Posts: 42
I went w/ a single din. i got the metra dash kit, which most people have said is superior to the scosche model. pioneer deh-6800mp i think is the exact model. i'm happy w/ it, i can email you a pic of it if you like and you can decide for yourself?
  • dudenjdudenj Member Posts: 14
sligg - iam thinking of going to PA to buy the car.. couple of people here seem to have got some good deals .. its probally worth the time and effort instead of dealing with these jerks salesman here in NJ and NY.
  • gstern94gstern94 Member Posts: 9
I would love to see a picture of it, thanks so much.
