ANyone get any price quotes yet for the 2006 sonata?

I got 3 tentative quotes for cars coming in the next 2 weeks

    1500 OVER MSRP
    MSRP
    100 over invoice.

Hopefully the last one is more than tentative

    Hi,

I picked up my 2005 GLS v6 with SV package Sonata in steel gray with black cloth interior. Wow.. I really like it alot. NO wonder GM is in trouble.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
We've sold a few at MSRP. No discounts yet. Over MSRP is insane. I wouldn't even walk into a dealer that would try to do that. MSRP is a good price if you want to get one right away. 100 over invoice is insane in anthoer way entirely. If they hold true to that, buy the car. Once you drive it, you'll be quite pleased with that deal.

I'm glad to hear everything worked out for you. But is GM really in trouble? I haven't heard anything about that. ;)

Posting a $1.1 billion loss in the first quarter of this year, attaining junk status, and asking the UAW to open back up the contract that wasn't due until 2007 hints of a little trouble with GM. ;)

I have the same experience with the 2006 sonatas. Noone is selling them much below MSRP (you can still get things like loyalty incentives and favorable financing). The dealers don't seem to be in a huge hurry to sell their 2006s, they just don't have enough in stock to be desparate. IMHO, Hyundai has a unique opportunity to really make a splash by shipping a lot of 2006s and offering huge discounts. get people weaned off their Accord/Camry security blanket and put tham in a good car at a great price. They have a rare opportunity to put their best foot forward but they have to make it work for the dealers.

I think it is a good deal. Maybe not excellent.
I got a drive-out price of 16400 for sonata GLS, which is very close to your price. (including 6% tax and 200$ document fee).

I have been shopping for a week for a Sonata in central florida. Last night, I bought a 2005 Sonata GLS. I traded in a 1992 Saturn SL1 (KBB trade in is around $700-1000) and I pay $299/month for 60 months. They gave me 4.9% financing and $2000 rebate. I put no money down. My goal was $300/month, they offered $310, I pointed out the high mileage for a new car (it had 3000 mi because it was a demo car or something), so they dropped the price to $299.

Other offers from another dealer were $285/month for a GL V6, or $315/month for a GLS SV. I think those were both 60 months. My wife wanted a particular color, so choices were limited.

OK, Do you live in PA? Last night I was told they wouldn't go under MSRP for the 2006. Who offered the 100 over invoice????

If you are willing to take the drive, these guys have 06 Sonatas a little above invoice...

2005 sonata GL, Base 4 cyc, 2.4L, no other package. Dealer said they can make a deal with me for $14000 with a finace rate of 6.5% (i don't have long credit history in USA yet. WellsFargo gave me 7.24% and capitalone gave me 9.95%). How does this deal look like? It seems that I can still put down more but the invoice price for this car is $15133. Please give me some suggestions.

Does "out-the-door" include all expenses associated with registering the vehicle - sales tax, registration, etc? The best I am able to find in the Atlanta area is just under $18,600 with rebate (several locations). That includes a 7% sales tax, registration, and all fees associated with making the vehicle official in Georgia. Got some better offers out of state.
  • ciras3ciras3 Member Posts: 16
Wow.. $18,600 seems like a lot for the total including plates, registration, tax and all. I picked mine (2005 GLS with SV package) up for $17,119.00 total. The car was $16,000 even and then there was title, license, tax and dealer service fee which made up the other $1,119.00. My sales tax is 5% where I live. I used to live in the Metro Atlanta area (Decatur) and I really would think you could get a better deal than that. From what I am seeing on here, people are getting even better deals than what I got.

What area do you reside in? We're researching the same model in Central New York and are not getting less than 18500.

Any 2006 Sonata prices paid yet?
  • mevandemevande Member Posts: 190
I 2nd that motion. Also no one should pay MSRP for a Sonata. Make them wait (dealers) to aquire more inventory. They are going to have to discount the cars (allot!) to gain entry and respect into the Accord/Carmry club. Accords AND Camrys can be had at invoice. Why pay MSRP for a Sonata????? :confuse:
  • bluedevilsbluedevils Member Posts: 2,554
If people will buy it at MSRP, then that's what Hyundai will charge. The overall package on the V6 models seems like very good value even at full MSRP. Would I buy one at MSRP? No. I'd wait until the buzz dies down and prices fall a bit.

But there's nothing written in stone that says "if you buy a car at MSRP, you got a bad deal."

Great buying experience so far with Hyundai of Waterford in Waterford, Michigan. I've been guiding my mother-in-law with her new vehicle research and purchase. Overall, a very pleasant and laid-back environment to shop for a vehicle. I am a car enthusiast and have bought several cars the past 10 years. I haven't gotten a good feeling from many dealerships I've visited. This is one of them. Apparently this is one of the Roger Penske-owned dealerships. Both the salesperson and the sales manager very professional, friendly, laid-back. A real breath of fresh air. Not what I've come to expect from a dealership, especially a Hyundai dealer.

This is a large Hyundai-only store and they seem to have several 2005 Sonatas left.

This is the vehicle and pricing we agreed to last night. Delivery should be this Friday. We were able to get the color and options she wanted from this local dealer, which seems pretty fortunate this late in the model year.

Basically, the dealer gave us invoice price minus the entire holdback, plus $170 doc fee: $21,218 - 665 + 170 = $20,723. Note the invoice price included $500 for advertising, as listed on the dealer's printout. Prior to purchase, I didn't have time to research if the $500 is dealer-added charge or if the manufacturer actually does charge the dealer this amount per vehicle. Anybody know?

We took the 1.9% APR plus $500 rebate. Originally, we agreed to $500 below invoice with 0% APR for 60 months and no rebate, but the sales manager goofed and that deal had expired on June 2. So he gave us the remaining $165 of holdback as a goodwill gesture.

2005 Sonata LX with:Option Pkg 15Wheel LocksRear Mud GuardsTrunk Cargo NetBright Silver MetallicBlack Leather Interior

MSRP $22,734 (I'm guessing here - don't have the exact numbers in front of me)
Price 20,553Doc Fee 170 (did not negotiate this due to the rest of the pricing being outstanding)Tax 1,243Title/Plate Transfer 23Subtotal $21,989Rebate (500)Total $21,489

This seems like a very good price on what is a solid and well-equipped vehicle. Even if we paid $500 for advertising that we didn't need to, the deal was still basically at invoice since the $665 holdback cancels out the $170 doc fee and the $500 advertising fee.

Have people been successful doing better than an 'invoice minus holdback' deal or not paying for the $500 advertising?

Other models she considered and her impressions... She considered midsize sedans and small SUVs before deciding she probably could do without the versatility of the small SUV in favor of lower price, greater comfort, and presumably lower operating costs with a sedan:
Honda Accord EX-L 4 cylinder - She really liked the car: Adequate power, Honda resale value, great fuel economy, factory-installed satellite radio which was HUGE for her. Priced about $3,500 more than the loaded Sonata LX. A close call, but I steered her toward the Sonata since she plans to keep it 4-5 years and this will reduce Sonata's resale disadvantage.Hyundai XG350L - loved the audio system and the interior luxury. Car felt a little large while driving it. I've always like both XG and Sonata, but sitting in both yesterday I wasn't as impressed with the XG as I expected to be. The leather in the XG felt/looked the same as in the Sonata, and the sound quality from the XG's Infinity stereo was not noticeably better than the Sonata's non Infinity stereo.Subaru Forester LL Bean - loved this vehicle but too pricey and not as luxurious in back-to-back comparos with the Sonata and XG350LSubaru Legacy - really nice car but way too pricey when equipped with the goodies she wanted (heated seats, leather, nice stereo, etc).Kia Sportage EX - really liked the vehicle. No major discounts right now or else might have gone with it. Salesperson was not knowledgeable about the vehicle.Honda CR-V EX with leather and heated seats. A little pricey and felt too large.

Umm.. actually yes... people have been doing way better than anything near invoice minus holdback. Not sure about why you were charged $500 for advertising. I went to 3 different Hyundai dealerships before I made my deal, and not one of them tried to get me to pay $500 for advertising. Also, the $170 documentation fee is pretty much way out of line too. I ended up paying $129 and I thought that was outrageous to pay.. In the end all that matters is that you and your mother-in-law are happy with the Sonata and that you got the color and interior that you wanted, no matter what you ended up paying. I took delivery of my 2005 Sonata 2 weeks ago, and I still really like it. I have found a couple of things that I wish were designed a little different and will note this on the comment card when Hyundai sends it to me. Anyway good luck with your new Sonata, you will be happy for your Mother-in-law as she drives around town in it.

    Thanks for the feedback.

How is it that folks are doing way better than invoice minus holdback? And why haven't folks been posting about this? I didn't see anything along those lines posted in this thread.

Are there some unpublished factory-to-dealer incentives, or are dealers just taking losses to get rid of these '05 Sonatas since the '06 units are already rolling in?

I know the $170 doc fee was outrageous but I didn't balk because I felt we were getting an excellent deal. Now it appears that may not be the case.

We could still back out of the deal and demand something better (haven't signed the purchase paperwork yet), but at this point my mother-in-law is happy with the car and the deal and there's no point in doing that.

To be clear, you are saying that folks have been getting prices better than Invoice minus Holdback minus Current Rebates?
  • ciras3ciras3 Member Posts: 16
    Hi,

I guess my first question is why are you only getting a $500 rebate? The current rebate on the LX model is $1750 from 6/1-7/4. I don't see any factory financing for 1.9% listed. Is this something you are getting from the dealership and they are withholding $1250 of the factory rebate because of their financing? Secondly, the $500 you are being charged for advertising raises a red flag. I can only go by my experience, but I researched this forum prior to buying my Sonata, went to 3 different dealerships here in Wisconsin (across the lake from you) and no-one had a $500 advertising charge. Is that standard for all of the dealerships in your area? I don't know.. it just seems that you could walk away with a 2005 for better than basically invoice price. Like I said, if you are happy with your choice and they have the color and the financing is good for you.. I'm happy for you. I would just ask them what's up with only the $500 rebate and if they can eat the $500 advertising cost.

I don't know if you bought one or not. I got a great deal in Atlanta on an 05 GLS. If you can reply to me by email, I'll send you their contact name. The deal I got was thousands less than other places in the area.
  • bluedevilsbluedevils Member Posts: 2,554
Sales mgr said the $1750 expired on June 2 and he showed us a sheet that indicated 1.9% plus $500 was currently available. Where are you getting the info that shows the $1750 is valid on LX 6/1-7/4-- edmunds.com, or somewhere else?

Since this was my mother-in-law's vehicle purchase, not my own, I didn't spend as much time digging/researching/comparing/price-quoting/negotiating as I normally would.

EDIT: Ok, just checked edmunds.com. They show $1750 rebate on 2005 LX 6/1/05-7/4/05. Then checked hyundaiusa.com and they finally are showing incentive info. Over the weekend, they had nothing posted. They show $1750 rebate OR 1.9% APR + $500 rebate.

EDIT #2: I think I'm confusing myself. It was getting late (10pm) when we were at the dealer. The sales mgr told us the $2,000 rebate expired on 6/2/05 and the new offers were $1750 OR 1.9% + $500. At least I think that's what he said. And borrowing the full cost of the vehicle (yes, I know the poor initial equity position of buying a Hyundai with $0 down), the 1.9% + $500 was cheaper than $1750 + our alternative rate of 4.9%.

    Hi,

Just looked on hyundaiusa.com and I see the 1.9% + $500 rebate information also now. If you are borrowing the full cost of the vehicle you won't have as much bargaining leverage as you mentioned. I still would ask what's up with the $500 advertising charge. If the Sonata you have chosen is the color and options you want, and no other dealerships have that combination, you have to go with what you can get that makes your Mother-in-law happy.
  • bluedevilsbluedevils Member Posts: 2,554
She's borrowing the whole thing only because the 1.9% APR is quite low. Could put down $5,000 if she wanted.

If borrowing the full $21,989-- the 1.9% APR saves $1,770 over 60 months vs. 4.9%. So it is worth taking 1.9% plus $500 vs. $1750 and 4.9%.

I may have her ask about the advertising fee but she probably doesn't feel like it. She is burned out from the whole buying process.

    Thanks for your help.

I have been looking for a Sonata 2005 GL 4cy. automatic with package 2. Today, I visited one of dealer shops around boston and they suggested following (including tax, docs and plates).
    (1) $229 * 60 months with $5000 down payment
    (2) $289 * 60 months with $2000 down payment
Because I don't have much credit history in USA, they gave me 5.9% APR and 1750 rebate from MSRP.
But the price seems too much for me and one of managers was nightmare (Also, they don't have color I'm looking for).
Does anyone have better offer than mine around boston area?
    Please give me suggestions.
    Thanks

I have not purchased one yet. In fact, I have been discussing with several Florida dealers. Please do let me know the deal you got here in Atlanta and the price they gave you. Is this with or without moonroof? BTW, your E-mail address is listed as private, so I'm not sure how to respond except by this public forum. Thanks.
  • bluedevilsbluedevils Member Posts: 2,554
First, make sure you know your own credit score. Pay the $15 or so to get a credit report with credit score from one of the 3 major credit bureaus in the USA. Then you will know more about your credit and how good or bad it really is. Too many people let the salespeople at the dealer tell them their credit is poor, even though it may not be true.

Do not buy a monthly payment. Buy a car. Then work out the financing, either with the delaer or another source.

The local yocal I tried to buy from thought he had a "homerun" because I was referred by someone who leased a car through him. All he wanted to do was play with the numbers to make the monthly payment "X", even checking to see if 60 months could become 63 months. Add 3 months of payments and see what the salesman expected me to pay. Salesman wouldn't give me a price for the car. After wasting 1.5 hours of my time, I left. That was on a Tuesday. On Thursday I made contact with a salesman in Naple, FL.. He was tied up with end of month stuff & said he'd fax me a price on Monday.

Monday morning, around 10AM I had a faxed quote. Within minutes the dealer called. We closed the deal over the telephone within 15 minutes. 8 days later I flew to beautiful southwest FL picked up my new Sonata GLS SV and spent a couple days visiting my parents. Round trip transportation & one night on the road was $302, so I saved about $1200 by buying in Naples rather than in CT.

Anybody who bought a new 2005 Sonata GLS v6 with option package 2(only ABS) recently? I'm shopping around for one in NJ and would like to get a feel for prices of cars that were sold recently. I havent started getting much response for my emails to the dealers yet.

I bought my hyundai at Brad Benson and had the opposite experience. I did my homework, went on a rainy day, told them what I was willing to pay--either take it or leave it. You relied on someone to give you a good deal? And you didn't read the paperwork? Why are you blaming the salesman? You also had 3 days to return the car, so why didn't you?
  • gimixgimix Member Posts: 4
Can you please let me know the Sonata model and price(if possible) that you bought for at Brad Benson Hyundai? Did you buy at invoice price, below or more?

Kenspen...am shopping around for Sonata GLS V6 too and was searching the forum for relevant messages and thats when I saw yours. Was $15,389 out the door price including tax, tags and other fees. Also did you get any optional package? Thanks.

I am currently negotiating a price for a 2006 GLS 4 cy with sunroof..
I got them down to invoice(19,280) + 500(advertising) + 295 dealer processing + taxes-+ tags MINUS 784(cost of sunroof since I told them I don't really want one). ALso thrown in is free oil changes and yearly state inspections. Would you take it?
  • nortsr1nortsr1 Member Posts: 1,060
The "free" sunroof almost negates the dealer advertising and process fee....but... that $295 dealer processing fee I would question.

I'm about to purchase a 2005 Sonata LX, leather, heated seats, moonroof with traction control/ABS. <100 miles. All below are approximate, but the final total is accurate.

    MSRP $22528
    Invoice $20429
    Disc -$1750
    Hynd Owner -$1000
    1999 Sonata GLS 100k miles $2200 (hard to estimate, as it's a trade-in)
    ?Extra off $800
    Total w/o taxes: $14650

    Taxes/fees $1100

    Grand total: $15750

Good deal? Suggestions welcome. I'm about to buy in 2 days.
    Thanks.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Sounds like a good deal to me except the trade-in value may be a little low.

In April I bought an '05 GLS SV (no options) for $17916 out the door, including taxes, reg & fees to Connecticut for out of state purchase ($90). This was no trade, no Hyundai owner loyalty, just what was the standard $1500 rebate at the time. LX rebate was $2,000. I wanted heated seats, didn't care about leather or power driver seat or ABS. List was $19594.

Any way, sounds like you've got a real good deal. MAYBE you could do a bit better elsewhere, but by how much? The car has what you want & the price is good. Go for it!

P.S. I'm 100% satisfied after 2.5 months and about 2600 miles. Good luck with your new Sonata LX!

Thanks. I'm going to give a deposit/payment on Monday. I almost feel bad - we went test driving and looking and had it all wrapped up in 1 day. I went to one dealership, dealt with the internet manager and did the test drive and standard negotiating.

It included having the manager come and hem and haw over the how he couldn't go any lower and the great deal I was getting, which I'm sure was a fair deal, but not what I wanted.

To their chagrin and after he kept talking as he knew I was going to leave to keep me in the dealership, I went home and decided to stop by another dealership about 1 mile from my home. The had closed about 1 hour prior, but I ran into the general sales manager closing down the lot. He reopened the dealership and we went and negotiated for about 45 minutes until we came to a price that I wanted.

You'd think I made him name his 3rd born after me by the way he acted when he gave me that price, but I'm sure it goes with the territory of selling cars. I got the "here's the computer screen I'm not supposed to show you" and "I'm losing $800 on this car", but in all fairness that's what I expected and I was very pleased about how we mostly cut the to the chase and negotiated a price.

I was hoping to get input from this forum to see if the price we came to was at the reasonable low end of what people have been paying.

Anyway, if this is the car we end up getting, I'll be very happy with it.

    -Alan

I would like to, but the dealer politely requested me not to post it. The deal would not be offered today anyway as its past "the end of the quarter" deadline. I don't live near you anyway.

    Hi thndrstm,

thanks for the reply........ looks like i missed a great deal!!

How do you like the car?

my dealer tells me all hyundai sonatas are now being sold ~1K above the sticker price. Would you believe that ?
  • thndrstmthndrstm Member Posts: 47
Tell you what, if you are willing to come down here. Call Alexandria(VA) Hyundai. They offered us a GLS with a sunroof for under 20K out the door, but we preferred one without a sunroof.. . Its listed for 20,835 on their web site and they should come down from that for you. According to the terms above I can't give you the name of the person I was talking with
  • thndrstmthndrstm Member Posts: 47
Also make sure you negotiate an "out the door" price .
