thanks for your numbers. Seems a little low but like you said you were standing some. I think the 38 highway (high figure), they must have had a hurrican tail wind. The camrys and accords have the best mileage for 4 cyls.

That price ($22,500) included the destination fee. The dealership was running an "employee discount" promotion (we negotiated to $264 under the employee price) plus we recieved a $500 military rebate on top of that. (I forgot to mention that we also paid a documentation fee of $149 on top of the $22,500.)

I feel we got a good deal considering the lack of LX's in the area. At the end of the deal, the salesman offered to take us to the gas station and fill it up for free. I guess most dealers probably do that, but it was unexpected so thought it was a nice touch. Tank of gas was $37. I had never bought a new car before, so was happy with how easy the whole thing was. It took about 1 1/2 hours. The car was still "in wraps" so they had to remove the packaging and they washed it for us while we did the paperwork.

Total "out the door" sale price (including all fees & taxes)???
  • baron71baron71 Member Posts: 7
Sorry took so long to answer...genius that I am, I dropped off car to have the windows tinted and left all the paperwork in the glove box so didn't have the exact numbers for you. Total price was $23, 892. This includes tax, license and documentation fee.

I see the Hyundai valued owner rebate has expired... wonder if they're getting ready to come out with all new rebates? :) how about some on the sonata! (2006 that is)
  • boltmanboltman Member Posts: 85
I think we have a new "cash price vehicle" Champ here...

My ($400 under invoice) deal was $22984 ( or about $100 more than the best deal I saw posted to that point)

    Baron's deal $22149

    That is $835 less!!!

So that means Baron got his loaded LX for $1235 BELOW dealer invoice (or if you add in Hyundai's $500 advertising fee still is $735 BELOW invoice)

    Now comparing OTD's....

    My OTD was $24982
    Barron OTD $ 23892

    That is $1090 better!

Must be a lower sales tax and/or license rate in Minn vs. Cal. ($265 Difference)

    How low can we go?!?

BTW Barron thanks for your service to our country, hope you enjoy your LX!
Deepwater Blue is an awesome color!
  • dcibrandodcibrando Member Posts: 90
I got a price quote for an LX w/ package 3 (w/ sub) for $24,000 OTD and TN sales tax is 9.5%. Not bad 'eh. Still I'm going to somehow try to wait for another rebate to come out...that is unless I qualify for the $400 college rebate as well. :)
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
You qualify for the college grad rebate if you graduated within the last 2 years, earn a minimum of $2,000 gross per month, have no negative credit history and must finance through Hyundai Motor Finance.
  • dcibrandodcibrando Member Posts: 90
there's the catch... "finance through Hyundai Motor Finance"

I can get 4.25% for 5 years at my credit union... can they beat that?
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
Their lowest rate in PA right now is 5.25%. I can't speak for any other states though.
  • boltmanboltman Member Posts: 85
If your credit is "golden" shouldn't be a problem.. they can set jus about whatever rate they want! I got 4.5% and probably could have negotiated under 4% but I really didn't want to bicker with them because they gave me a good price on my LX.
  • baron71baron71 Member Posts: 7
    boltman,
I mentioned shopping for the LX in Minneapolis, but it was actually purchased in North Dakota were sales tax is 5%.

    Everything broke down this way...
    Price $23000
    Military Rebate -500
    Documentation fee +149
    license +93
    tax +1150

OTD Price $23,892 (dealership doesn't have the advertising fee)

So my price before Tax and License was only $335 better than yours. (I think my original post read funny and looked like I meant $500 rebate on top of the 22500 price, when it was supposed to read $500 rebate on top of the employee price they initially offered us at the beginning of negotiations, then with the $149 documentation fee added in, that made my total $22649 before T&L.

Of course true cost of ownership is harder to figure. I paid $8000 down on loan with 4.65% rate so interest on remaining balance was around $1600. Insurace is $363 per 6 months (100/300/100) w/ $500 deductibles. MPG is hard to know, but was seeing numbers as high as 32 today and as low as 25.5 ( mix of city and highway) Of course highway speed was only 55 due to break in period, so will certainly change.

I have been driving non-stop trying to break in the car. Have put over 500 miles in just a few days and hope to have 1000 before I leave for a long trip this weekend. Car has been a real pleasure to drive, but going 55 is pretty boring, can't wait to open it up and give it a real stretch. Will post after the trip with more accurate MPG.
  • boltmanboltman Member Posts: 85
    Baron...

    Still a great deal!

My salesman "Salesman of the year five years running" at the most volume dealership in San Diego said that the main no no is going above 4000 RPM not staying under 55MPH. When you think of it that makes sense, what difference should it make if you are going 55 or 70 as long as the engine is running under 4000 RPM? RPM's are the true factor there. The V6 doesn't even break a sweat going 70! Now the 4 cylinder might be a different story.

He said they are being overly cautious and not advocating breaking speed any speed laws with that under 55 suggestion.

Of course you are getting better MPG keeping it under 55! i live in California if you go 55 you will most likely cause a crash of course with traffic sometimes we don't get above 5 MPH! It all evens out. Even at 75MPH the tach is well below 4000 RPM

Only 450 miles to go.. then ZOOM ZOOM!

I was just quoted $500 over invoice for a 2006 Sonata GLS V6. They had the $500 Ad Fee tacked on at first but removed it after I told them NO WAY !!

My wife and I just drove the 06 Sonata then drove the Mazda 6. Sticking with 4cyl for better gas mileage, we found the carsdirect price of 19,900.00 sonata gls w/automatic trans. We liked the sonata better. We live in Connecitcut, can we find a better price? Any suggestions on what to do? We also checked out the Accord and their price was 18300.00 for basically the same thing.
I know the warranty is different, but we are trying to be frugal and find a great deal.

Can we get another $1000.00 off the Sonata? We don't qualify for any rebates.
    Any help would be appreciated

Hi there, was this the price you paid for an 06 sonata? What kind of sonata a gls? Any help would help.
    Thanks

anyone think Hyundai will come out with a small rebate on the 2006 Sonata on August 1st? Ford's releasing their Fusion in September which is close to the price of the Sonata... I figure Hyundai will want to shoot some rebates out there to help their sales.

I found the car I want this weekend... deepwater blue LX, package 3 w/ grey interior... but I'm trying to hold myself back in order to see if a rebate will come out on Aug. 1st... or should I go for it now? ahhhhhhh! this is tough haha
  • gmctruckgmctruck Member Posts: 186
I doubt you will see any rebates on the '06 models until the after the remaining '05's are cleared out. I'm thinking more like October time frame which will give Hyundai enough time to build up inventory and gauge how well the '06 models are selling. I guess it depends on how bad you want the car and how long you are willing to wait for incentives that may or may not come in a few months. Just remember that the longer you wait, the less your trade-in is worth which will offset any rebates or incentives. I'm not waiting forever. Once I find the right car at the right price... it's a done deal. :D

I just bought and took home a 4 cyl GL this past Saturday, but I want the upgrade to the GLS either with the 4 cyl. or 6 cyl. The dealer is agreeing to do it. OTD with the 4 cyl GLS with the Premium Pkg (roof, homelink, power seat) would be $21,339 and the 6 cyl would be 23,714 also with the prem pkg. Before tx and doc fees the sale price is 20,590 for the GLS 4 cyl and 22,063 for the GLS 6 cyl. I need to hold on this car for 8 years. What is the better overall value? I don't think the dealer will budge especially if he feels he's doing me a favor by swapping out the GL I have. Please help ASAP as I'm going to pick up either of these tonight! BTW, the doc fee is outrageous ($398.50)!!
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
Go for the GLS 6 cyl. You are going to be happier in the long run with the extra power at least. I also think the wheels are much nicer than having hubcaps. If you were to put on a nice set of wheels, you would probably spend at least $700, so half of your price difference is right there.

Did you consider the extended warranty? If you do intend on keeping the car there are a lot of electrical components that are new to Hyundai, and possibly future problem areas.
  • hotch41hotch41 Member Posts: 61
Thanks danf1 for your feedback. Do you have the 6 cyl GLS? Actually the 4 cyl GLS has stock 16" alloys. I was just concerned about the 17" doing in the snow since I don't switch to snows during the winter. I just don't want to spend the extra $ to get different tires for the winter. I choose to keep the tires til they get worn. Just think, last Saturday I went to the dealer to get an Elantra GT!! The additional cost of the getting either GLS (including the car I traded, 96 Infiniti I30) is $1,828.50 (4cyl) and $3,389.88 (6ycl). The 6 is double the extra I have to pay for the GLS 4cyl. You'd still go with the 6 anyway? I don't do any long commuting so I was wondering if the 4 was sufficient. Additional feedback would be appreciated. Thanks again!
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
I prefer the power in the 6 cyl. But to each his own. The 4 cyl is definitely adequate. I don't concern myself with driving in the snow in any front wheel drive car. My primary car is rear wheel drive, and I do not switch tires in the winter.

If I were buying one I would definitely spring for the 6. I will take power over gas mileage any day, so you can see where my priorities lie. Keep in mind that I've been working with cars for about 7 years now, and as such have become somewhat picky about what I drive. Roughly 75% of all the Camrys sold in the U.S. are 4 cyl models, so I'm in the minority for sure.

I know that this is a long shot but does anyone have access to the true invoice price to the new 2006 Sonata. I know that the dealer can show you an invoice on there system and print it out but does any one know how to get a copy of the real invoice. The invoice that I am talking about is the one that comes prior to the car being PDI'd. The invoice that shows true dealer cost. I went to a dealer on Sat. and they were saying that they were selling cars at invoice since the Honda dealer across the street had a banner saying they were selling cars at invoice.

The only problem that I had was that the dealer really had a scam going on. They should me a print out saying that the invoice price for the car was 24,339. Now this is truly a scam and clear cut example of a dealer knowing providing false information for profit.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
Tell me exactly what you are looking for and I can give you the invoice.
  • fezzyfezzy Member Posts: 83
I am looking for the true dealer invoice, the one that shows the actual amount that the dealer pays. Not the on-line version that edmunds shows, but the invoice that comes in the car or with the truck driver that delivers the cars. The post delivery inspection invoice.

This would allow me to really have something to deal with. It disturbs me that a dealer would try to take advantage of someone like this. Yes, the dealer needs to make money to cover it's expenses but by lying to it's customers is the fastest way to lose business.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
I'm sorry I was vague. Tell me about the car that you want. Trim level, options etc...
  • jimstrenkjimstrenk Member Posts: 56
    Fezzy:

What is this PDI you mention in your post? What does it stand for? What does that have to do with dealer invoice pricing?

Thank you in advance for your reply to my questions. ;)
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
PDI is a pre delivery inspection. Basically installing all the fuses, topping off fluids, performing state inspection, setting tire pressure etc... It should have absolutely nothing to do with invoice pricing. That is one of the reasons that we have holdback to help defray these costs.
  • fezzyfezzy Member Posts: 83
I also have to apologize I was way to broad. The car that I am trying to obtain the information on is the LX Sonata with Pkg#3.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
MSRP is 24,829. Invoice is 23,339 with the 500 advertising charge. I've heard that not all dealers participate in the advertising co-op program so the 500 may not be there, but I cannot verify this as my dealership does have it. So best case you are looking at invoice of 22,839 which includes the destination charge. I don't know what Edmunds or KBB says it is, I pulled this directly off of an actual invoice.
  • fezzyfezzy Member Posts: 83
    Thanks for the info.
  • skyburn1skyburn1 Member Posts: 7
Danf1 - Do you think that given an invoice price of $23,339 (including the $500 ad fee), that a fair offer from a local dealership of $500 over invoice + D&H of $299 is a good deal? That's $24,138+TTL -- I think it's a bit high. I'd rather see it in the $23,800 range OTD+TTL.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
It doesn't sound like a terrible deal, but if you want to be at 23,8 call them and offer 23,5. Chances are they will try to split the difference with you. Shop around if you have to, but that is not an unreasonable offer.
  • skyburn1skyburn1 Member Posts: 7
Yeah, that's exactly what I did -- offered 23,5 and they wouldn't budge an inch. Their claim is on a car that's this unavailable (the Sonata LX '06 Acc3) in my area, they can charge what they want -- that sort of thing. I came up to a little over 23,8 and they still wouldn't budge, so I said screw 'em. At some point, it becomes a matter of principle to me -- I mean, if they are willing to negotiate at all, which most dealers are, they should at least come down from their original offer, unless the original offer is a really sweet offer -- which I don't particularly think it was. Reasonable offer? Sure...but not terribly sweet.

    Thanks for the info.

I'm buyinh my deepwater blue LX w/ package 3 tonight for about $24,250 (OTD - tax and all in TN). Might be able to get them down to $24,000 OTD (since charlotte NC had this price) but I doubt it.

    I CAN'T WAIT!!!

I did check insurance though... Farm Bureau... $387 every 6 months and I am over 25 with a perfect driving record. :( I thought this was a lil high but oh well
  • fezzyfezzy Member Posts: 83
$387 for insurance is good... Down here in the South insurance can really take a toll on you.

    I got a price of a little of 500 every 6 months. Clean driving record and over 30. I pay $78 a month on a '99 Truck
  • skyburn1skyburn1 Member Posts: 7
I have Allstate for insurance, and they have seemingly been pretty good. Right now I have a '03 Toyota Sequoia and a '96 Toyota Camry (this one is liability only) and our premium is $499/6 months combined, both drivers over 25, good driver rates, small kickback for having our homeowner policy with Allstate as well. I called and asked if I added an '06 Sonata LX to the mix and removed the Camry, what it would cost. Premium goes up to $744/6 months, so a net effective price on the Sonata of $363/6 months.
  • skyburn1skyburn1 Member Posts: 7
Man, $24250 OTD including sales tax in my area (3.7%) would mean a sales price of $23,385. That seems like a screaming deal compared to the $24,138+Tax I was offered recently....
  • newmexicoskynewmexicosky Member Posts: 1
After 5 hours at the dealership, we drove our newest Hyundai home Sunday evening. We started out with a used Elantra in '99 and then a new '02 Sonata GLS and a program '01 GLS (we got them both in July '02). Never had any major problems with any of them and the warranties were great. My wife drove the '02 pretty hard and blew through bumber to bumber several months ago. With near 65k, driver's window not working, mysterious creaking noise from front suspension any time the vehicle moved and multiple scratches and dings we figured it was time to let it go. Having paid it off awhile back, we traded in on a '05 Sonata GLS SV. The total deal was the '02 trade in, 500 cash down and 10000 (that includes ttl and dealer charges) financed. Too late to go back if not a good deal, but what do you think?

    dcibrando -

I've heard LX models with Pack 3 going OTD for under $24,000 in the Charlotte area.

TO EVERYONE: AAA (Triple A) Auto has a car buying service. Initial fee is $25 to do the search. This fee will be credited back if you buy the car from AAA. You pay a flat $145 for delivery of car to your home and for them to handle all paperwork (which is signed upon delivery). They also do financing. According to the guy I spoke with at my local AAA office, less than 1% of the time is a consumer/buyer/individual able to get a lower OTP price.

    Good luck
  • gmctruckgmctruck Member Posts: 186
Is this service only for AAA members, or is it open to non-members also? I used to be a AAA member, but not currently.

"I've heard LX models with Pack 3 going OTD for under $24,000 in the Charlotte area. "

Is this any specific dealer in Charlotte? I'm only 2 hours away from there and my area only has two Hyundai dealers to work with. I would make the drive to Charlotte for the right price.
  • boltmanboltman Member Posts: 85
Ok.. so now that a few weeks have passed and I see they have multiple 2006 LX's on the lot I'll divulge my dealership (I didn't want them getting flooded with calls with only one LX on the lot)...

FRANK HYUNDAI (Mile of Cars) in National City CA

This is where I got my $400 under invoice deal or $100 over if you include the adv. fee as invoice. They will deal unlike other dealers I'm pretty sure they will match my deal for anyone (I don't think I'm a special exception).

They have the #1 Satisfaction rating in San Diego and do high volume. They came within $100 of LA prices so I highly recommend them to everyone. Efficient and quick. Great salespeople and manager.

    Good Luck

Tell them their first 2006 LX customer recommended them.
  • chevymalibuchevymalibu Member Posts: 129
last time I went there, they had maybe 15 tan sonatas (V6 and GL's, no gls's). They had a couple of black and gray. that's it but it was about 30 days ago.
  • tearsintheraintearsintherain Member Posts: 8
02 Sonata GLS trade in, 500 cash, and $10k (including ttl) is a mediocore deal. 05 sonata GLS is around $16k ($1750 rebate atm), plus TTL in your state. So your 3 year old sonata is being traded in for $5-7k depending on the tax rate in your state. Of course your 02 sonata may have flaws you don't like anymore, and the options package on the 05 may be better.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Actually, the deal is $500 better than tearsintherain said. The rebate on the GLS SV is $1250 ($500 less than all other trims).

Without knowing what the dealer allowed for the trade-in and sales tax rate, it's difficult to assess how good of a deal this was. The bill of sale should show an itemization of all charges and credits listing these items.
