I am thinking of getting a base level sonata for the 199/mo with 1000 due at signing. How good a deal is this really. Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I am new here.
  • elvisluvselvisluvs Member Posts: 29
Bhmr- I am suprised they (key) gave you such a good price. A few years back we ended up getting a new xg(l) at new rochelle hyundai for the same price key wanted for the previous gen sonata lx :surprise: . Good luck with the new car-Mark

Since you've already done the deal, it's a moot point whether someone else thinks it was good or not. You should just enjoy your new car now. But the details are interesting. According to hyundaiusa.com, the loyalty rebate on the Sonata is $500, not $1000. So maybe this dealer gave you a special loyalty rebate? How much cash did you take out of the deal? What options were on the Sonata? When you say "no money down", does that mean zero out of pocket, i.e. dealer paid the license/tax/title/documentation fees?

On the surface of it, the deal resembles offers I've seen advertised in my local paper for a '07 Sonata GLS at $199/month for 30 months with no money down. But that is without the $1000 "loyalty" rebate, so that would reduce the monthly payments to around what you are paying. If you look at other lease deals out there (and you probably did), this is really a low payment for a nicely-equipped mid-sized car.

As for buying at lease end, you have 30 months to decide that. Maybe you won't want to keep the car past 30 months. But if you do, when the lease is close to expiring, check out the price of other used Sonatas of the same year/mileage/comdition and see if $10.1k is a good deal. Keep in mind that you can try to negotiate a lower buy-out price when the lease is due to expire--I've done that successfully before.

i'm planning on buying a 2007 GLS sometime next week, and the best offer i've got so far is 16,000 + tax & registration. please advice if this is a decent quote. thank you.

I drove "my car" off the lot the same day I went in just for an appointment. I went to the dealer bhmr59 had seen online. They did have internet pricing which proved to be the best deal I had found after doing my research.

The Sonata SE has a Preferred Package and a post factory installed remote starter which will be installed by the dealer's contact next week. I may check into that choice, though, and change my mind. Their contact is charging $495 plus tax for the remote starter and installation. The dealer could not give me answers to my general questions like the brand that will be used and if the starter can be programmed to the cars' remote fobe.

So, I'm pretty satisfied with the purchase. I had a rental car that was left in the dealer's parking lot to be picked up by Enterprise, so that was convenient. By the way, Towne Hyundai has given me a referral certificate, if anyone out there is interested in the details, send me a private message.

    Here's my deal:
    17,023 based on internet pricing
    495 remote starter
    1,366 7% tax based on pre-rebate price
    tire tax
    254 NJMV
    189 document fees
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Since you're in NJ,, check with Town Hyundai in Denville, NJ. Their web site is offering Sonata's at $1800 below invoice, plus $1000 general rebate, plus $1000 rebate if you finance through HMFC, plus $500 owner loyalty for those who qualify. (This, I believe, is for any trim level.) That should get you a GLS auto/trans for $14530 + $189 doc fee + TTL according to Edmund's reporting of invoice price. If you qualify for owner's loyalty, take off another $500.

My partner picked up '07 SE from Towne Hyundai yesterday and the deal was as promised, with one exception. Partner told me the monthly payment is about $5 more than I had pegged it at using financial calculator. I did see the car yesterday and it is beautiful. But, I noticed it has that stupid window etching, which could account for the $5/ month price difference. He hadn't notice it. I would have refused it.

I'll get to review the paper work tomorrow.

Hyundai's rebates/incentives expire on 2/28. There will most likely be a new incentive program, but it may not be as attractive.

Salesman told partner that as of yeserday, they had sold 70 Sonata's so far in Feb, representing about half of their Hyundai sales in Feb.
  • sandman46sandman46 Member Posts: 1,798
Congrats on the new car. If your calculations are indeed right, they are offering killer deals. Wish they had had those kind of incentives when I bought my Civic last year. I might've thought twice about it and convinced the wife to swap places in the garage. I really enjoyed the '06 Sonata I rented for a week last year...very comfortable seat for my chronic back problem. I had the 6 cylinder GLS and the car moved very nicely and the interior was quite pleasing to me.
I saw a charcol car yesterday and it was a striking looking car...looked all cleaned and detailed.

    The Sandman :)

How could you not know about window etching? Towne Hyundai as one of their standard ripoff scams etches most of their cars and then charges about $200.

How about that exorbitant $189 documentation fee? NY State has a maximum of $45. Why would you pay it?
  • kimweigelkimweigel Member Posts: 43
Are you saying that all Limiteds come with Infinity speakers, or just the ones with the upgraded stereo?

My wife has an 07 LTD w/out the stereo upgrade. I think her speakers are stock.

I have an 06 LX w/out the stereo upgrade. I think my speakers are stock as well.

Please confirm or deny. I am thinking of upgrading mine with Infinity components. I've had them before, and LOVE the way they sound, especially the tweeters.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
    1) The price quoted did not include window etching. The price quoted was for SE standard equipment + $189 doc fee + TTL. That was supposed to be what we would get. I was not there when the car was picked up or else I would have turned down the window etching. I think my partner was so excited about the car that he did not pay attention to the actual cost. He felt, "oh, it's only $5 a month more." He doesn't even know why it's $5 higher.

    2) I don't care how a dealership allocates the cost. I just want to know the bottom line. When I bought the '05 Sonata, for my use, the doc fee was almost $100 higher than the local dealer but the total purchase price was about $1500 less. What did I care about the doc fee? It could have been $5,000, but the price before TTL was still $1500 less. I'd rather pay under $17K plus a $189 doc fee than pay over $18K plus a $45 doc fee. :P

    3) As I said, I won't see the purchase contract until 2/26, but if the price was $16,900 before TTL, that is still $5,000 below MSRP and still a great deal.

I will keep everyone informed once I get to review the figures.
  • trunvestrtrunvestr Member Posts: 32
How do you know there was/is a separate charge for the window etching? What is etched on the window and where does it appear?

If the doc fee is $189 and that's more than NY, what diff does it make if OTD I'm still saving $500 to $2,500 over NY prices. It makes NO difference I'll pay the high doc fee and still have more money in my pocket.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Window etching is accomplished by using an acid and tracing a stencil on each piece of glass. In our case, the etching does not even resemble a Hyundai V.I.N.

It probably takes 10 minutes or less to do all the windows on the car. Do it yourself kits are available for something like $20-$30. Total waste of money 1) to even have it done and 2) to pay $2 or 3 hundred bucks for the dealer to do it.

I won't know what was done to increase the base price until I get to see the figures tomorrow.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Here's the deal from Towne Hyundai (figures from sales contract).

$19,151 Price of car, including floor mats & destination
    $1149.06 CT 6% sales tax
    189.00 Doc fee
200.00 "NJ supplemental titling fee" incl CT reg, title & temp NJ reg while processing paper with CT
    $20,689 total cost before rebate
    -1,000 general rebate
-1,000 HMFC financing rebate (5.9% for 60 months)
    - 500 owner loyalty

Net out the door total cost = $18,189.06.

My calculation of the monthly payment did not include $51 for floor mats or the $200 title and registration (which should have been about $100, so they probably have a charge for paper processing). The monthly payment was also slightly affected by the first payment due date being April 8, which is about 7 weeks from delivery date (an extra 3 weeks of interest on the full amount of the loan.)

I'm quite satisfied with this deal and would recommend it. Again, looking at the bottom line, I don't care how much of it is for doc fee or if there was paper processing charges for title and registration.

P.S. They did not charge for window etching. Even though it's preprinted on the contract at $185 they did not add it in to the cost.

How much would you pay for an 06 LX rental with 10K miles/no sunroof. Car looks to be in good condition and drives fine.

I wonder what the dealers are paying for these cars at auction?

Just purchased a brand new Sonata Limited from Atlantic Hyundai in NY.
Great experience, people were very friendly (espcially my salesman).
I simply faxed, emailed my local dealers. Right of the back Atlantic offered the best price, which other dealers questioned their offer for being too low.
My out-the-door price was $19,932.00 for base limited with floor mats, cargo mat and net. (-$1,000 reg. rebate + -$1,000 for financing thru hyundai.)
Saved my self trip to fitzmall, and was able go gain a very nice car buying experience.

I just got a great deal on a Khaki 2007 Sonata GLS auto with the Premium package from Bob Dunn Automotive in Greensboro, NC. Here's a little background:

    1. I had my 2006 Elantra GLS 5 dr. stick shift with ABS package on sale at Cars.com. I hoped to get around $12,000 but would have settled for around $11,500
    2. I emailed Bob Dunn Automotive told them I was selling my car (I had a very interested buyer) and asked if they could match the Fitzmall price.
    3. Lee, their salesman emailed me back and said they could match the price if I could buy it by 2/28 (today).
    4. On 2/27 the interested buyer backed out. Lee, from Bob Dunn emailed me and asked if there was anything they could do to close the deal. I asked them if they could pay me $11,300 for my Elantra.
    5. Today Lee emailed me back the following deal:
    MSRP - $19,530
    Sale Price - $16,500
    Rebates - $2,500 (including $500 Hyundai loyalty)
    Trade Allowance - $11,300
    Payoff - ~$6,000
    Tag - $69
    Taxes - $156
    Document Fee $399.30
    Out the Door/Amount Financed - $9,324.30*

Plus I avoided paying 3% on $11,300 in sales tax ($330)(so my effective sales for my Elantra was $11,630)

My net cost was $14,620 including $156 tax & $69 tags. So the car cost was under $14,400. Plus I didn't have to mess with selling my car, transferring the plates, etc.

Lee was great to deal with and there were no surprises.

Bob Dunn Automotive in Greensboro is VERY HIGHLY recommended!!
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
    That's a great deal!

While you showed trade allowance and payoff on the trade you did bring it back to the actual cost of your new Sonata.

Someone will gripe at you about the "high doc fee." But, heck, it is included in your $14,400ish price.

Great deal. Good luck. Enjoy it.
  • tomkc53tomkc53 Member Posts: 12
Very interesting, I just drove home my new Sonata Limited from Atlantic Hyundai yesterday myself. It was also a great experience. Are you saying your price was $19,932.00 after the rebates but before tax? We may have been in the showroom at the same time. What color did you get?
  • tyislandertyislander Member Posts: 1
I was under the impression that the unlimited package came with the stereo that was XM ready. In my ignorance, I did not clarify this one point before I signed the papers and have since been told that it is an "option". Heck, I did not think there were any options left to add when you got the unlimited package.
  • flipflopsflipflops Member Posts: 8
    I was there from 1pm ~ 4pm rougly.
I purchased the Deep Water blue. Did you purchase an ebony black with black interior?

My out-the-door price was $19,932. This included TTL, and with the rebates deducted. I had total of $2,000 in rebates.
My options were carpeted floor mats, cargo mat, and cargo net.

Can you share your information as well? Such as price, options, rebates, how did you shop (walk-in, fax-attack, negotiations thru many dealers etc.).

I fax-attacked / emailed exactly 26 dealers around the area, and atlantic offered the best deal.
  • sliggsligg Member Posts: 109
Of the 26 dealers you contacted via fax and email, how many responded with a quote?
  • flipflopsflipflops Member Posts: 8
I generally faxed all 26 dealers, plus emailed 5 to those who gave me an email address when I first called the dealer to get the name of the manager.
All the emails were replied, however 4 gave me a quote, while other one asked me to offer the person #s.

For those who responded with calls, I don't have the exact numbers as I have already disregarded all the papers. Except for the letters that I faxed, hence I have the number of 26 faxes.
It was somewhere around 10 by phone (both of my phones were ringing simultaneously.) Could be bit more, but no less then 10. So overall it was about 15. About half of those weren't attractive.
Edit: One of the dealer just called me with an offer. March 1st.
  • tomkc53tomkc53 Member Posts: 12
I was a walk-in. Price was $20,500 less the $2,000 in rebates + TTL. It included remote start, floor mats and pinstripe. Yes, it was Ebony black with black leather interior. I actually had them drive a Deep Water Blue into the garage so I could see the color since it was dark outside. It had the grey leather interior.
  • flipflopsflipflops Member Posts: 8
Given your numbers, you paid $500 more for remote starter and pin stripe (very good deal!). My price was $20,000 before deduction/tax etc.
Perhaps we did see eachother, as I remember passing by a couple who were looking at the black on black outside. Very good color choice, black interior looked very sharp. Good luck with your car, and one more question. Did you get XM as well?
  • tomkc53tomkc53 Member Posts: 12
Good luck with yours also. I did not get XM and actually my salesperson didn't even seem to know that they had some of each in stock. It wasn't that important to me and I don't believe they had a black in stock that had XM. You probably saw a black in the showroom but it was equipped with the ultimate package and I didn't want a sunroof. Now that I think about it, I remember seeing a Deepwater Blue out front. That must have been yours. Now I just need this rain to stop so I can take it out of the garage.
  • skb123skb123 Member Posts: 13
flipflops congrats on you purchase of new Sonata. What is the MSRP of your new Sonata Limited? Is it with premium package or ultimate package? Thanks in advance for your response
  • flipflopsflipflops Member Posts: 8
    No Package, just base Limited.
MSRP As stated on my car's sticker, $24,215.00

    The rain stopped! thank goodness

Edit: There are only 2 packages avail. for limited trim.
    Ultimate Pkg, or Platinum Pkg.

    Congrats on your new purchase.

Though you weren't interested in XM radio, to my knowledge it is standard on the newer built (model 26462) 2007 Limited Sonata. They give you a 3 month trial. My point though is that this newer built car has audio controls on the steering wheel that controls the CD player and controls your AM/FM radio also. The Sonata without XM is a discontinued model. Not sure how the salesman didn't know this.
  • flipflopsflipflops Member Posts: 8
I did get XM radio with my car, it is model 26462. As I was shopping for XM equipped car. My car built date is Dec 06, and yes my salesman was very informative.

I don't know the exact details of audio controls for 25242 vs 26242, I believe your referring to mode button. It lets you scroll between cd / am / fm / xm. THere are also small, very hard to notice volume controls on left side behind the mode and updown buttons.

I just bought a 2007 gls for 14100 + tax at roseville hyundai. That was after sale price and rebates
  • trunvestrtrunvestr Member Posts: 32
My mistake, flipflops. After re reading the thread it seems it was tomkc53 in message #3680 that didn't get the XM and the salesman, at the same Atlantic Hyundai was unawares. I believe the Limited without XM are the older models. I tried buying from that same dealership and they never gave me a decent price for the deepwater blue that I wanted. They wanted me to come into the showroom. I refused until we were in the same ballpark with the prices. I purchased from Towne, the Limited with Ultimatre pkg, without any hassles.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Congrats on your new car! Is this Denny Hecker's in Roseville, MN? Is it the XM-equipped model and are there any options on the car? Also the price is before license and doc fees, right?
  • craigbrookscraigbrooks Member Posts: 420
Did your GLS include a sunroof and 16" alloy wheels?
  • davrosdavros Member Posts: 2
In the Sunday edition of the Cleveland PD, new 2007SE starting at $16995, is this a come-on to get you in the door??

I was also looking at a 2007 Camry LE starting at $19381 at a Toyota dealership, also in the paper this weekend.

(I sort of lean towards a Toy since my 2001 CamryCE now has 172k on it and still running strong, but the Sonata SE appears to be less than $2k than the Toys. BTW: I use 100% synthetic oil in all my cars since the mid 90's)

How do the Sonata's hold up for highway high mileage driving, and what kind of MPG's highway can I expect?

    Thanks,
    Dave
  • tomkc53tomkc53 Member Posts: 12
That's correct, it is me who didn't get the XM. Mine is the older model with a build date of 10/13/06. I couldn't find the exact combination I wanted, base Limited, black leather interior with XM. My salesperson was rather new, however the Sales Manager who actually closed the deal was excellent.
  • briank4briank4 Member Posts: 7
No it is roseville, california. It has XM radio and floor matts, thats all, but I love the price. First tamk 27 mpg mixed driving 50/50.
  • briank4briank4 Member Posts: 7
oh yeah. that was the price before taxes and fees.
  • denni3denni3 Member Posts: 1
    Hi Brian,

Wow, what a deal you got! That is the lowest price that I have seen so far. May I ask what the total price out the door was? What kind of rebates did you get and are they still available? Did you buy on the internet or did you use a salesman. I really want to purchase this car. Is there any features that you don't like on your car?
  • briank4briank4 Member Posts: 7
i dont have it in front of me, but it was 14100 plus tax and registration. It was a salesman and the price was advertised with about 5 to choose from. 1000 rebate +1000 finance rebate and the rest was dealer discounts. The only thing I dont like is the way it takes moderate bumps, but most of the time it is really smooth. The ad was in the sacramento bee for three weeks.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Wow! Were doc fee and any ancillary fees (tire/ battery disposal, etc) to dealer or state included in the $14,100?
  • briank4briank4 Member Posts: 7
not sure I not really that on top of things, but it was 14100 + tax and registration for a total of about 15500. give or take a hundred dollars.
  • lightfootfllightfootfl Member Posts: 442
Just wondering what you all think about the lack of discount from Hyundai for "Valued Owner". I would think personally that the biggest "sales gimmick" ever would be to give a special discount to all present owners. Some of us still remember the old slogan, "ask the man who owns one". Just something to think about.

  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
In the last round of rebates, every Hyundai model had at least a $500 "loyalty" rebate for current Hyundai owners. Doesn't that qualify as a "special discount"?
  • lightfootfllightfootfl Member Posts: 442
That may well be, but for Mar-Apr there is nothing !!! All I think is that there should be some recognition, etc for current or long time customers.
  • tenpin288tenpin288 Member Posts: 804
When you checked the Hyundai website for offers, did you put in a zipcode for your area? I just checked the page and until I entered a zipcode or chose a state there was no listing of a "valued owner" discount. Once I entered my zipcode, the $500 discount showed up. I also tried a few random zipcodes and the discount also showed up. Give it a try and see what happens. ;)

A BIG FYI -- Colonial Hyundai of Downingtown, PA is advertising an '07 GLS w/auto for $179/mo with only $179 at inception. Its a 30 month, 12K per lease.

Surprise !!, guess it was there all the time. I just did the zipcode thing and there it was, just like you said. Thanks, guess I was just a little bit presumptive. Sorry about that. At any rate that is more in keeping with what I would think it should be. :):):)

Hey Brian. Great price. We are looking at buying a pre-owned 2006 Sonata and it seems that Roseville Hyundai consistently has much lower prices than any other dealer around. We live in Merced area, so it is a little bit away but seems well worth the drive to go up there. How was your pverall experience with the dealership as far as the sales guy and getting the right price? Thanks!
