Yes, you may need a special tool to get at the 4cyl filter. Internal filters are still pretty easy, but they are a little bit more messy.
on to the next one.
And every company builds some good cars, some not so good.
If a little Ford involvement scares you a little, you might do better to buy something else. Just understand that FORD parts can be found in many brands, not just Fords or cars from companies owned by or partly by Ford.
But I am different.. I will show them that they made a mistake worth $200 and tie them up in wraps so that they offer me $400.00 of goods and they will be happy to do so!!!
My next car will be a Mazda 6s, scheduled to be built in May, and if I have some problems with it I'm pretty sure that we'll be able to talk those out too. The surveys? I will fill them out to reflect my experience, not to punish. So far it's been great and I will expect it to continue that way through delivery and ownership of the car. Can't wait!
Is anyone in hear around the edmonton or calgary area in alberta canada??
jamie_jasman@hotmail.com
i ordered my black mazda6 Gt V6, moon roof, leather, GFX, bose everything its loaded. about two weeks ago. I cant wait it is driving me nuts.
One question though i talked to some insurance companies and they quoted me anything from $6000 to $9000 a year,if i go under my own name. what is up with that. I have never got a ticket in my life. Why is the insurance so expencive on this car. One of my friends has a 2003 civic and he only pays $3000 a year. He is the same age that i am and he has had two speeding tickets. These insurance companies screw more and more people around every day. ITs BS. Like how can they expect anyone to pay $9000 a year just for insurance, just think in 3 1/2 years of paying that price i could buy two of these cars.
So i decided to go under my fathers name i will still be paying like $3000 a year but hey that is a hell of alot better then $9000.
Does anyone know if they are comeing out with a differnt panel for the dash so you can put a custom cd player in it.
The 6s (6 cyl) is indeed uses a standard type oil filter that does not require a special tool to tighten. The 6i (4 cyl) is a cartridge type oil filter that I heard is hard to get to.
buddy_2_: Yikes, that insurance rate is high! I'm paying about $2100/yr that includes my '99 Rodeo 4WD, 6s and my 17 year old son. Here's some earlier pics I took on my black loaded 6s MT I posted:

This car is a dream come true. I have close to 3200 fun driving miles on it with no problems. A very solid handling car, especially in snow and icy road conditions.
thats the thing i have called about 5 differnt insurance companies and they are all in the range of 6000 and 9000 its horrable
Hey protege fan do you no if there is any of the mazda6 gt v6 with the gfx package at any of the dealerships there. With the manual tranny. I dont want to wait untill may or june.....
One on the that ingenious trunk hinge linkage mechanism someone had requested on an earlier post so there's no hinge intrusion into the trunk area and a closer view of the satin fuel filler door (pics taken in the garage).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the color basically looks the same, but the chrome has that brighter sheen, and the satin doesn't. Or, is the color different too?
At first I thought these things looked cheesy.. but they're starting to grow on me. Looks like I'm gonna get a Steel Grey 6 and now I'm considering whether or not to get one, and if so, which color? decisions, decisions!
Why do I want the original? It's more than principle. I may actually want to switch grilles at some point. I like certain aspects of the original, and may feel the need to swith depending on my mood.
Thanks for all of your responses. I was ready to go crazy in the dealership, but I didn't have to...at least not yet. I'll let you know when I actually get the original back.
good luck to you,
-Alt
Enjoy your new car!!!!

I was wondering if anyone had a picture or could describe the sport grille now listed under the build options for the 6. I don't remember it being there before they redid the pricing set up on the web site. My initial thought is they may be selling the grill they have on the Japanese Atenza, but I hope they came up with something better because that would not be an improvement IMO. Sometimes the "chrome mustache" bothers me, but otherwise the car is everything I have been hoping for, and the options list is exactly what I need (okay want)
626to6: Your salesperson was really that good to you to get 10s? What kind sleezy tactic is your salesperson trying to pull. The original grille should have been yours in the first place, you paid for it plus the sports grille with no attachments. Glad they're going to give you 2 free oil changes, but did they give you a voucher/coupon or have it written? My suggestion is not to turn in your survey until after at least one free oil change.
milkman1: See the site posted on #9590. I have pics of the sprts grille on my 6s.
no.. when I said "get one" what I meant was the replacement fuel door.. I KNOW that I'm going to be getting a 6.
thanks.
Of course you have to currently own a Passat, Accord, Camry or Altima (and you can keep it if you are so inclined)
What a great way to ease the worries of a new model car huh?
Just took a serious test drive and got to spend a ton of time with the Bose system in the 6s. I was not overwhelmed, but not underwhelmed either. It's good enough not to be a deal breaker. However, two things struck me:
1. The Bose system only allows you to adjust bass and treble while the base stereo allows midrange adjustments as well. I'd think the higher end stereo would have more adjustability of sound.
2. At higher volumes, both Bose and base stereos gave me some speaker buzz. It could also have been door or speaker cover vibration, but it definitely put a damper on the quality of the system.
Are there any 6 owners that experienced this buzz? Also, since this seems to be a constantly-discussed topic, how do you owners feel about the sound system you currently have installed?
They ranked them as follows:Passat, Accord, 6 and XG350.
It states in it's summary only good things about the 6 but then in closing it states it is still a notch below the Passat, Accord and Camry but doesn't say why. Makes it sound like it's a notch below only because it's a Mazda. God I hate those kind of generalizations simply because Mazda isn't considered to have the same status. Has anybody rec'd their May CR to see if it explains why?
But when I went to order them from mazdastuff, I noticed there was no color coding. Are these not body color? (They are on the Miata...) Don't really want them if they're black or something.
mjvchicago: No buzzing from my Bose and its still sounds great wherever I drive! Mid-ranges are usually a wash anyway from what I learned in my acoustics course in college many moons ago. I can verify this with a couple of acoustics engineerings and audio freaks at work.
Yep, I'll be doing the MA Rev It Up on the 13th. Sounds like it's gonna be fun!
:P
Mostly, I think CR's judgement reflects priorities of quietness, refinement, and economy rather than better handling and a sportier feel. They're clearly family sedan oriented rather than sports sedan oriented. OTOH, I don't think there is much doubt that, while the 6's engines are certainly "adequate", they just are a notch down from the best of the competition, especially the Accord. Honda has GREAT 4-cyl and V6 engines right now - clearly smoother, more torquey, and more economical.

combustible1: I had a higher end Sony system I installed in my truck years ago and it too had only bass & treble digital adjustments. I'll have to dig up my notes/textbook from that acoustics class. It had to do with how well the human hearing can detect specific high and low frequency sound ranges. I think the prof said it is similar to certain color ranges in the spectrum. In sound, in between frequencies may be slightly undectable. But then again I'm not an acoustics expert or an audiophile. I'll ask my sound/acoustics experts at work this week.
Mark: It may be all that you said about the Honda engine, but have you read the Accord complaints with the engines that some owners are experiencing. Have you viewed the Mazda 6 problem area, not too many. I think the true judgement of how well product is put together is with the owners comments. With over 3200 mi on my 6s I no complaints or a hint of problems to report. I have no complaints about the Mazda enhanced Duratec V6 it's smooth, has more than adequate power and it gets the job done in a tame manner. I'm pretty sure the 6i owner's can remark the same. The Mazda 6 clearly wins the appeal/appearance catagory. I had mentioned at an earlier post that a guy I met at the mall parking lot with a '03 Accord Sedan EX MT had wished he had given the 6 a look before he bought his car. He wanted the V6 sedan w/ MT and he said that the 6 looked sharper/sportier than his EX. The Altima SE MT was out of the question due to complaints he's heard and read, mainly "torque steer" and pieces/parts delaminating.
I averaged about 24.4mpg the last time I refilled. At the moment, I have a tick over a half a tank (about 9+ gal) with 228 mi. 228/9= 25.3 mpg and I drive like a maniac. I think with the TCS turned off helped.
It's been a while, but if memory serves, a graphic equalizer has to be pretty high-end to not do more damage to the signal than good. Just cause you've got more parameters doesn't mean it'll sound better.
And screw Consumer Reports. Their reviews don't come from an enthusiast's perspective or even take that aspect into account. Balance their review against the likes of Road & Track and Car & Driver and you get a good, broad understanding.
