    Hello again!

Once again thanks for your responses.

I just came back from a dealer in a neighboring state and put down a $250 deposit on a 6i. From what they told me, the 6 is currently at the docks and they expect it at the dealership in about two weeks. It's a steel gray 6i MT w/sport, Bose, comfort, leather, premium, sport grille. I'm going to get it for $450 over invoice, which seemed like a pretty good deal since it's a manual transmission w/sport package.

I'm just wondering if any of you who have ordered could let me know how long it took to get "from the dock" to the dealer. They guessed two weeks, but said it may be a little longer. Thanks in advance. :)

After years, I have narrowed my list to a Mazda6 -Sepang Green or a Honda Accord in Eternal Blue Pearl.

I test drove a Mazda 6 and it had transmission problems. Is Ford making the transmission for the Mazda6? Does anyone have any information on the transmission?

try another Mazda6, that one may just be a lemon.

Sorry it's been a while since i've posted anything. I know i said i'd put up some pics of my lapis blue 6s M/T, but since i took delivery of it i've just been having way too much fun with my baby!

I've had three problems within 3400 miles and thankfully they were all taken care of promtly and efficently.

    1. When i took delivery of the car, the 3 center air vents had a number of hairline scratches on them. I pointed this out the salesman, who immediately brought out some kind of peroxide solution to remove them. Sure enough it worked, but about a week later they became severly discolored (dark gray faded to off-white). I reported the problem to the service department and the vents were duely replaced during my first oil-change.

    2. The heated seats did not work, but apparently there was just a loose wire that needed reconnecting (also fixed at the first oil change)

    3. At about 2800 miles (right after i got my car back) i was on my way up to the mountains to go snowboarding for the weekend (I love being at college in Colorado) and the check engine light came on. Afraid that something was seriously wrong, I called my salesmen and asked him what i should do. He said that i could drive my car like normal, just to bring it in on Monday. A little bit skeptical, i made sure i didn't top over 50 mph on the interstate. It was quite a humbling sensation to have other cars fly past me. Infact I don't remember a single time another car had passed me until then! Anyway, it turned out that some emissions valve was defected and i had to leave my car in overnight. The dealership gave me a 2000 626 which is probably the most uninspiring vechicle ever built!

Back to the reason i'm making this post! The new Honda Accord advertising campaign began in Europe about six months ago. This ad is one of the most innovative and simply inspiring pieces of marketing i have ever seen. It should be noted that it took 606 takes to get it just right. If mazda had the resources to come up with something like this they could match a great car with an equally brillant adverting campaign. Anyway, that's enough jabbering on my part -

My car was built on Febuary 11th and it arrived at the dealership on March 5th. It was supposed to arrive during the last week of Feb, but it got held up due to snow. "At dock" means Flat Rock, Michigan. I'm in Colorado which is substancially closer than California, so i'd give it 15-25 days tops, depending on how far in line it is. I hope that helps...

If you have the VIN of your vehicle you can get an ETA from a Mazda customer assistance rep.

Just turned 500 miles on my 6s last evening. I can honestly say without hesitation that this automobile is the most enjoyable vehicle I have ever owned. Bar none.

My M6 (5spd GFX V6) is a week old now, totally satisfied with the car. Best car that I have owned comparing it to my last cars... Pontiac Bonnyville SSEi and Ford T-Bird SC. The transmission reminds me of the one in the T-Bird which was designed by Mazda.

I need some feedback on car wax, I bought the Meguiers Gold Clear Coat wax and intend to give my M6 the wax treatment this weekend. Anyone had any problems with this wax, my M6 has the Redfire Metallic paint. Is there better waxes?
  • aromasaromas Member Posts: 314
shankm: I use the same, good wax that leaves a very nice shine, should look really good on red. Should last about a month or so. My experience shows all store products are pretty much the same. Buy whatever is on sale. Unless you are a detailing freak you can't tell the difference between them.

Anybody know where I can get a pair of black rims for the rear wheels so they match the front. Man that brake dust shows up something fierce on those front rims. If I go 3 days without them looking black I'm happy.

I just picked up my new 6 about a month ago. I actually placed my order the day before Thanksgiving, and the car arrived in mid-April. I was told that the combination of 6s with manual tranny was the cause for the almost 5-month wait. From what I've read, it sounds like I'm not the only one. The car is an absolute blast to drive, and it really is a head-turner. However, I'm having a rattle issue that is a growing concern, and I haven't seen any posts that sound like my problem. In the first few miles on the car, I noticed a subtle "metally" rattle coming from either the engine area or underside of the car. It generally only occurred under load, usually around 3000 rpm. After a visit to the service dept., I was told that it was a loose heat shield and that, after some minor adjustments, the problem was fixed. After a few days of driving, I also thought the rattle was gone, until I drove the car for an extended period of time (about an hour), and the rattle came back. Now I'm faced with the dilemma that the problem only occurs on longer drives, which for me, is not that often. I'm guessing that it is a temperature issue pertaining to metal expansion as the car fully heats up. Are heat shield rattles a common occurrence, and if so, how easily are they fixed? If the car wasn't so darn quiet, you might never even hear the problem. Just wondering what my next course of action should be.

I think we all would appreciate if you elaborated a little bit on what exactly was the problem.

Or should be; After weeks of not seeing another 6, I saw TWO, in five minutes. Both Silver Sports going southbound on Rt 9 in NJ.
As Red Barber used to say.."now how about that!"
  • cookie01cookie01 Member Posts: 369
dang, that's not a bad idea!! I too get break dust ALL OVER the front rims and it just looks crappy.
I'm hoping that if it EVER stops raining, some of that will be "wipe off-able" but with all the water on the roads, it just becomes "break mud" instead of break dust.

    sigh..
  • chikoochikoo Member Posts: 3,008
the Panoz esperante(did I spell it right?) comes with black rims and the car cost $86K and some change.

So it must be good idea :)

Of the people that ordered their 6, how long is it taking before you get an order number or VIN? Is it taking 12 weeks or more before the car arrives?

I ordered mine a month ago, and haven't received either of those numbers yet.
  • mpiatekmpiatek Member Posts: 68
Unfortunately, it's really hard to tell how long an order will take. I ordered a Mazda 6 on March 10, and the dealer won't get it until the second week of July. Fortunately, the dealer ordered another Mazda 6 almost exactly the same as the one I wanted back on February 23. That car just came in 2 days ago and I picked it up yesterday. It's amazing to me that a difference of about 2 weeks in ordering time causes the arrival time to differ by 2 months. I think it might have something to do with dealer allocation (both cars were a MT 6s, which are more difficult to get).

On a side note, it's amazing how quick these MT 6s models are going. The dealer told me that they got a call from another dealer the same morning that I picked up my car (it came in the day before) asking if it was available for a dealer trade. Of course they told the other dealer that the car was already sold.

Forgot to comment on the VIN number. I found out the VIN number of the car ordered on February 23rd around the end of March or beginning of April. I found out the VIN number for the car I ordered on March 10 at the end of April.

Just a quick warning in regards to VIN tracking. I called Mazda NA twice to track my 6, and both times they told me different dates. Turned out in the end that neither date was right. My dealer said outright that they don't trust Mazda NA on their delivery dates. Good part was that actual delivery occured 2 days before Mazda said my 6 would arrive! Your mileage may vary of course.

The M6 5spd manual model is very limited in the production for Mazda. Most people drive the autobox in North America. I ordered my M6 5 spd manual, 3 weeks ago and my dealer was able to do a trade with another dealer. The car was at the port in Flat Rock and arrived within 3 weeks.

I would hate to be the person who ordered at Thanksgiving and just got his car, I'm sure the dealer could have traded with another dealer. Look at the Mazda USA site, its got an inventory of all dealers and their M6's on the lot.

Mazda under-estimated the demand for the 5spd manual tranny. The car is a blast to drive, the V6 engine loves to rev., just waiting for the breakin period to be over. I have about 400 km on the car.
  • 1wiseguy1wiseguy Member Posts: 120
I ordered the manual V6 GS model with GFX, premium audio and moonroof (didn't like the leather and that means I also don't get heated seats, homelink (big deal), and a few other things).

Anyway, the dealer told me that the configuration I ordered was not common (most people go for the whole pkg incl leather) and said I'd get my car end of May. He called me and advised it was built last week. All in all, 5 weeks is not bad for a supposedly rare car. My wife bought an 01 Civic DX-G 5-speed in early March of 2001 (one of the most common configurations) and did not get it for 5 weeks.

Given the number of Civics sold in this country, I would have expected the Honda to be delivered much faster than my 6...of course I don't actually have it yet....

I should have clarified (about my Thanksgiving order date). I configured my 6s basically loaded, sport, roof, Bose, leather, and in a stick. I did conduct searches on Mazda's site during Jan. and Feb., but found no hits for my configuration. I did see a few (actually very few) manual 6s', but they weren't sport, or no Bose, etc. Remember too that (I think) I was one of the earlier orders, at least in my area. It's probably gotten a little better since then.
  • silvercrownsilvercrown Member Posts: 237
I did it!! Today, I ordered a Sepang Green 6s, fully loaded, non-sport with appearance package and rear wing spoiler. I was really leaning toward the Lapis Blue, but fell in love with the Sepang Green/Beige leather combo when I saw one all newly washed and sparkling in the sunlight. Too bad it didn't have all the options that I wanted, or I'd be driving it right now!

I am excited and can't wait for my car to get here. ETA is around the end of July. I'm hoping that this really will be the case, I'm a little worried when I hear about how long some people have waited for their factory orders. But my desired configuration was so uncommon, I had to order it to get it the way I wanted it. But the waiting is so, so hard. I want it now!! :-(

The only thing that I didn't get was the SAB/SAC option, which apparently is only available with the Sport package if you want leather seats. That is total B.S. IMO, but unfortnately, that's the way Mazda set it up for whatever reason. I thought this was going to be available as a stand-alone option in April, but I guess not.

I'm very disappointed at not getting the SAB option, but I really, really did not want the Sport package. It was a hard choice, one that I don't think I should have had to make, but I've made my peace with it.

In a couple of months (hopefully), I'll be able to join the club!! I'm glad to have the knowledge and camaraderie of this group. Have a great weekend everybody!! Happy Mother's Day!!
  • glideslopesglideslopes Member Posts: 431
Nice to see another 6s owner who did not want the Sport Package! I feel better now!

I love the lines without it. I have the SAB/SAC but no leather.

Good news!!! According to NHTSA the Mazda6 got a 5 star rating for frontal impact for both the driver and the passenger. The side impact ratings are still under review.

So a friend of mine is looking for a car for his wife and teenage daughter. He's narrowed it down to a 6i and an Accord EX. He likes the the ride of both, the wife doesn't care what she gets, the daughter likes the 6. His reservations are that 1 friend told him it's a Ford so beware(I set him straight) and another friend said get the Accord as it would be much more reliable and it's a no-brainer(sheesh). Fortunately he seems to value my opinion more and probably wouldn't be able to take my ribbing for buying an ugly car especially combined with his other vehicle(Caravan, yuck). We are both going to my dealership next week to see what kind of deal he can get so I've done my job imparting the virtues of the 6. I think the other friends advice are typical of what the 6 is up against in this market, consumer ignorance.

glideslopes: I, too, have a 6s without the sport package and like the look of it better too so I hope you now feel even better. But I do have the sport grille and lip spoiler. The lip is a great add-on to the non-sports models and have gotten many compliments. It looks very natural and proportional to the rest of the car. If I could get my scanner to work I'll post pics.
  • lapis_bluelapis_blue Member Posts: 23
I don't get it...you effectively ordered a sports package car minus the 17's, integrated foglights, and electroluminescent gauges. I can't see why anyone wouldn't want the cool gauges, and what do you have against the 17's? The sports package costs $960 and the appearance package costs $900 + $300 for the wing! You're paying a $240 premium for a car that has crappier (and in my opinion, uglier) wheels, no fog-lights and plain jane gauges. If the only thing that drove you to your decision was the benifit of a smoother ride on the 16's, you could have sold the 17's and bought the 16's in their place from the dealer (and made a profit)! What's more is that the appearance package looks somewhat tacked on in contrast to the integrated look of the sports package. Nonetheless, there might be something i'm missing. Do you not like the black interior of the sports package?

In the automatic, the gears wouldn't shift on their own. The salesman said it needed to be repaired - not a good sign.

I still have Mazda6 on my list because it is so much fun to drive, even the one with transmission problems.

miata10ae:Thanks for posting the nhtsa site. I've been checking periodically waiting to see the results of the 6's crash test. Probably see it on Dateline NBC also.

aromas: Did your friend checkout the insurance rate between the 6 and the Accord? Most US insurance companies rate the Accord as favorite for thieves, therefore the insurance for it may be quite high. Not sure how it rates in Canada. Plus a teen driver is lots of $$ for the insurance co.
I have over 5200 mi on my 6s and it's still solid with no rattles or squeaks. I don't seem to have that much brake dust either on my rims. May be due to 90% highway driving and disengage the clutch if I come to a stop. Been doing this to my last two MT vehicles with the original brakes lasting 75K miles and clutch over 120K miles.
  • aromasaromas Member Posts: 314
Alcjew: The Accords and Camry's top the lists for thieves here too but insurance is basically on par with the 6 as I got quotes for all midsizes when I was looking. Guess it doesn't carry too much weight in Canada.

You can attribute the cleaner rims to your style of driving. Do some city driving with frequent braking and you'll see what I mean. The difference in grime between the front and back rims is like night and day. the accumalation wasn't nearly as severe with my last car(Legacy GT) although the rims had many more spokes and weren't as contoured as the 6. When it's time to change brake pads(pretty soon the way I drive)hopefully there will be a way to remedy it. Maybe differnt pads will help. It's just annoying to have a shiny car and see 2 grimy wheels come out after 2 or 3 days. It's ends up costing a fortune in wheel cleaners. That stuff is expensive.

carbon Fiber pads usually help a little with brake dust. Anyone know what material the stock pads are?

I had some interesting experiences during my purchase of my 6. First off, it's a manual 6s with sports package, moonroof, comfort package, homelink, alarm upgrade, Bose, Leather and airbags package. I did a lot of research so I was ready to negotiate when it came to cost.

First I tried carsdirect and they set the bar at 23,800 to try and find my car. A good price at only a few hundred over invoice. However, after almost a week they still had no luck finding my car because of the combination of options. They had found a redfire metallic, but I was going for yellow which I'm sure made it even tougher.

Then, the unexpected happened. The car I had (92 Mitsu Galant) sold! With $1000 bucks in my hand and no car I HAD to get something immediately. So I decided to go pursue this on my own. Went to Edmunds, priced the car out online and sent the word out to 3 dealers. 2 or the 3 came back with email responses and invited me in.

I also went through the Costco program and the one dealer in the area that supported it. I went to that dealer because he had an onyx black on the lot with all the options I wanted. I really hadn't looked at a black one and initially didn't consider black because of the "gets to hot" issue. But when I saw it, it was love at first sight. I owned a black 84 Vette long ago that was taken from me prematurely (it got stolen) and it was my baby, so it rekindled that feeling.

Decided do go with it, but he was asking for $24800, $1100 over invoice! Said it was a hot car and with the new allocation coming in it wouldn't be fair to the other sales guys(he was the fleet guy) to price it lower. I made him a more reasonsable proposal of $500 over invoice. He didn't go for it so I walked out.

Now I was really desparate! The 2 other dealers that emailed me didn't have any manual trannys on the lot and the ones coming in were spoken for, and I wasn't going to pay what that initial dealer offered. So I was facing the long agonizing prospect of ordering the 6 and living without a car while waiting for it to come in.

That is until the 3rd dealer I emailed through edmunds finally responded. They said they had all the options I wanted in black and lapiz blue. I had 2 choices! So I started heavy talks with the dealer. They offered me the black for $23600. On carsdirect, that's $100 UNDER invoice and on edmunds it's $300 OVER invoice. So some discrepancies in the pricing between the 2 sites, but I digress. Either way you cut it it's a great deal! I jumped all over it and took delivery that day. Even the dealer experience was good.

So what could have been a disaster having me pay $1000 over invoice turned into a happy ending. So now I have my black beauty with 520 miles on it already after a week. The whole experience of trying to get the car makes owning and driving it all the sweeter.

"I can't see why anyone wouldn't want the cool gauges, and what do you have against the 17's? The sports package costs $960 and the appearance package costs $900 + $300 for the wing!"

This is a chocolate/vanilla sort of thing. Some folk like the ground effects and wing ... some folks don't.

"Do you not like the black interior of the sports package?"

Many folks won't opt for the black interior even though the Mazda6 looks particulary good with it. Black is very hot in the summer and it is harder to keep clean. After the first few months of ownership it gets sort of old having to constantly clean your car.

One of my friends got to ride in the 6 for the first time last night. He's an Accura owner who always drives the speed limit and never taxes his car.

Needless to say, he got to see the other side of life last night. I didn't break any laws or exceed the speed limits but we did go around some curves in a very enthusiastic and entertaining manner.

The 6 didn't lean, squeel tires or act uncivilized in any mannor. But it sure was fun.

    Zoom, zoom indeed.

Dealers in Canada are not budging on the price for the M6s GS 5 spd. manual. I have the GFX package,V6, bose, 5spd manual, sunroof and no leather. The dealers in my area did not move even a penny on the car, first of all they did not have the car with the options I wanted - a lot of 5spd autos but no manual trans. and the color is wanted (Redfire). To make matters worse the 3 Mazda dealerships in my city - 2 are owned by the same people.

I bought my M6 with the above options for $34000
in Canadian dollars including taxes and freight. What did the other Canadians pay for their M6s'.

I did not look at any Honda/Acura products - 95% of their cars are ugly, too conservative in styling. And the fact is there are too many of their cars on the road. Everywhere I drive my M6, people are looking.

The M6 started with a sharp design and I think it will continue this with future models ie. hatchback, Mazda should make an all-wheel drive model to compete with Subaru. I think GM and Ford will be coming out with more rear wheel drive models and so should the other manufacturers.

shankm: I bought my 6 in Toronto about 2 weeks after it came out at Dufferin Mazda. They knocked off 1000 MSRP, I'm sure I could of got more but I wasn't prepared to do my usual walk out the door ploy because my lease was up so I was kinda stuck.

I got a GSV6(no GFX) with auto dimming mirror and spoiler as extras for 35K. Sounds like you didn't get too bad a deal especially since you got a manual. In greater Toronto there are alot of dealers so we have alot more flexibility. I'll be taking a friend to see about a 6i this week so I'll see how much they are moving on this car now that it's been out for awhile.

    glideslopes: Now you jinxed us.

"This is a chocolate/vanilla sort of thing. Some folk like the ground effects and wing ... some folks don't."

But silvercrown obviously likes the ground effects and the wing because he/she ordered his/her car with them as add on options. I know that people have their own preferences and tastes, and silvercrown's appear to lean towards the sports package! He/she obviously has a deepset loathing for the black leather and/or the 17's, because he/she is sacrificing the integrated fog-lights and electroluminescent gauges and paying a financial premium!

We are selling apx. 4-5 non-sport pkg MZ6's to every one sport package. Also, we are also selling apx 70% 4cyl and 30% 6cyl.

Right now, Our best selling MZ6 is a MZ6i with auto trans, premium pkg and auto dim mirror in silver. second most popular color here is a tie between steel and red....

Yes, I absolutely hated the black leather interior and couldn't see myself living with it for the next several years. I didn't want the 17's either and really wasn't sure how to make such a swap for the 16's. I can admit that the sports package would have been better in some ways(for the features and $$$), and it seems like Mazda really pushes customers to get the sports package by the way it's arranged. However, I am willing to pay a little more to get exactly what I want.

I like the sport package "look" and I would have liked to have the special gauges and fog lights. I actually considered getting it, just so I could get the SAB/SAC option, which I really wanted. It was a very tough decision. But I really love the beige interior with the Sepang Green and I hated the black, so I made my choice. If I could have gotten the Sport package, with beige interior and 16 inch wheels, I would have done that in a heartbeat. But that was not an option, unfortunately.

At the end of the day, my happiness with the car in the long run is worth the additional expense as well as the wait. I'm okay with that and it's my hard-earned money that will pay for it. And the S-plan pricing will help me do that even better. Just thought I'd share my decision with the board. People are entitled to their opinions, as long as they're expressed with respect. No harm, no foul. However, when it's your car and your money, it's your choice.

On a lighter note, I had a dream last night that I was driving my beautiful, sparkling, Sepang Green 6. I don't think I've ever done that before, I guess I'm really excited about getting this car. July can't come soon enough ....

Can you give me a list of all the Mazda6 manual transmission combos. Both I4 and V6 combos.

    Thanks in adavance
  • fowler3fowler3 Member Posts: 1,919
have you tried Mazda's web site and pricing (building) your own car? You can do all the combinations.

silvercrown: You took the plunge! Congratulations!

I can understand where silvercrown is coming from. There's a lot of peer pressure on here even though most will never see each other or what they bought.

Black with beige is a beautiful car. You see many European and British cars with that combination. But black is very hard to keep clean unless, like the owners of those Brit cars, you have a driver to do that for you, or your name is Bush and the S.S. takes care of the obnoxious details.

The first 6 I saw on the street was black and I mistook it for something else. Seen across a six-lane intersection it didn't "show" as well as one would have thought. There were larger, black cars on either side of it.

I hope we hear from owners of MZ6i's with AT after they have 2000 to 3000 miles on them.

Aromas, you might look for disc brake shields that bolt inside the alloys. They are steel caps (shaped like cake pans) which cover the brake discs and hubs preventing dust getting to the alloys. Painted black, you won't be able to see the discs through the wheels.

Somebody posted a while back that one thing he noticed following an MZ6 were the "mufflers" hanging down ahead of the chrome exhaust pipes. They don't show as much as on other cars but that little problem can be easily taken care of. Buy a can of "high temperature" black spray paint, the kind used on charcoal grills and firebrick in gas fireplaces. Spray the bottoms and ends. Still there but less noticeable. ;)

After the paint sets up, start your engine and let the "mufflers or resonators" get medium warm, it helps the paint bond to the metal. Then shutdown for the night.

But it doesn't give me complete info. I want to know how I can get around getting the sport pkg. in order to get every other option. I don't like the sports pkg. enough to pay extra for it.

Are these shields available thru the dealer or can I get them at any automotive store? How easy are they to put on? If they work I'll be one happy camper.

Bought a new house. In the process of moving. It's a real pain in the rear. What's worse is I moved out to the sticks where there is no high speed connection. Oh my god do I hate 56K dialup.

All the tests aren't in yet. A little early to be tooting horns when only two parameters have been measured.
