Since I asked the Shift Question, I am obligated to answer: Did not desire a spoiler but it came with package. Now that I have it, it's cool, but I would have done without if they had the MANUAL Car in the original color I wanted...(BTW, I lived with the old '93 626 Manual's same recommendations for shifting for far too long, and then I get this cool new 6 with some fancy fast engine and the new manual has the same speeds to shift, so sometimes knowing the worldview of the person asking the question sheds new light...if not, I don't want to hear it)

I vote spoiler or deck lid is a must on the Sport Package (As previously stated, I'd prefer having the option).

Just the spoiler alone (no other effects) just looks out-of-place MHO. However I think the deck-lid by itself is OK.
  • ashutoshsmashutoshsm Member Posts: 1,007
The (rear wing) spoiler happens to be a part of the Sport Package. It can also be added separately on vehicles without the SP.

The Lip Spoiler (is that what you're referring to as a "deck lid"?) is available as an add-on option (except on those vehicles that already have the spoiler)

The Appearance Package adds the front and rear and side sills, but no spoiler. Most dealers/Mazda equips most Appearance Packages with one or the other spoiler (mine has the wing) and also the Sport Grille (which is only available as an option, not as part of any package)

Hope that clears some misconceptions up and brings you and others back to planet Earth :)

ashu, what did u pay for your 6i w/o TTL?
what options does it have,if any?
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
You can even get it on a Volkswagen Golf (manual or auto). However, for some reason most of the time the stability control is made avaialble only on the automatics. Acura on the CL and TL did not provide it on the manual shift and it is not avaialble on the Lexus manual shift. The TSX is the first car in the Lexus line that alows stability control on a manual. BMW has had it both on Manual and auto since 99. Even many domestic cars provide it including the Uick.

Me and ahsu both have a 6i. I have a silver manual transmission with the premium package (power driver's seat, alloys, alarm). I paid $16,800 before TTL with 0%.

I have a lapis blue 6s without a spoiler, but it does have the appearance package and a sport grille. I love it because it looks sporty, classy like a BMW 3 series car, and it's different than the majority of 6's that I see that are equipped with the sports package!

...from a book. Just one of those things you learn by doing, listening to the engine, feeling where the power band is etc. maybe compare notes later. I would have to agree with Kenoka that the handbook tells you how to get efficient gas mileage w/o lugging the engine. Ironically, it bothers me when I can't hear the engine for that purpose (which runs counter to most peoples desire for quiet engines or loud stereos) Maybe if you wanted to really get a thread going you should ask the question whether people lug or over-rev their engines too much. I would guess people don't wind it out enough.

As for the wing, I think it looks good also w/o the sports or appearance package. Yeah, I know, that's what I got. I didn't want the wing, got it b/c it was on an available car, but when I saw it I changed my mind.

I just posted this on theh RX8 board.

I was looking at the 6s for some time now, but refrained from pulling the trigger until I saw the RX-8.
I saw the RX-8. My God, what a sight. And in all colors: red, yellow, blue, silver, black. No titanium or green. They (Oak Tree Mazda in San Jose) had a yellow, a blue, and a black siting in the showroom.
I was talking pricing with the sales guy. Mentioned I objected to the Dealer Markup ($5000). He immediately dropped it to $1500, but later, his manager seemed to be willing to take it off completely, so it's MSRP! They said all the cars are available to drive off today! No need to reserve, and oh, no $1000 non-deductible like someone else mentioned earlier here.
Bottom line: Lightning Yellow 6speed, Grand Touring Package, $31,100. I figured that out-the-door would be $34,200. With 10% down, and financing the rest at 4% for 5 years (credit union), I am looking at a total cost of $37,440.

Now, I can get a comparable 6s (leather, comfort, AT, Bose, Moonroof, ULEV, Appearance) at $26,055 MSRP for approx. $24,000 (little over invoice). Less the $1,250 loyalty rebate and with the 0% financing, my cost would be $27,800. or a difference of $10 grand!

What do you think? Is the 8 worth $10 grand over the 6? Let me know!
  • theparallaxtheparallax Member Posts: 361
it's definitely worth the 10 grand. If you have a family w/ more needed space, the 6 would be better suited for you but you only live once - get the RX8!!

You don't need to rev a car to the limiter to DRIVE it. You can also DRIVE it by taking corners (ramps) hard, going to the track or buying an Enzo :) - wishful thinking...

Also, being aware of all that's going on around you and being curteous to other drivers should be included in defining "driving".

I'm thinking that the only changes for '04 might be a couple of new colors.

I'll go for the dark blue!
  • chikoochikoo Member Posts: 3,008
couple of new colors for 2004?

any insiders who can shed more light on whether I should hold off my purchase till october and avail of new "modifications" to the car or should I go for it NOW?
  • ashutoshsmashutoshsm Member Posts: 1,007
(all of this is conjecture, and helped my own decision-making process)

    Pros:
    - Great prices
    - From a driving/handling standpoint, nothing is expected to change
    - You don't have to wait - you get more months of Zoom Zoom (unless you already own Zoom Zoom)
    - Did I mention great prices?

    Cons:
    - 2003 model year, not 2004
    - More colors
    - More bodystyles (Yeah! But I just didn't want to wait for he hatch any longer! And the deals available, through various rebates etc made it sweeter.)
    - The Mazda 3 hatch may suit your needs as well, for less money
    - Niggling defects may be rectified - although the delayed US launch already took care of most (if not all) of them. Also, my car is not involved in any of the recalls so far, as they've been taken care of during production or at the port.
    - Rebates (especially loyalty) and financing may vanish!

Of course, if you can afford that... there are probably some other very good cars you could take a look at.

The only thing with the 8 would be room for folks in the back. I know, I know, they're trying to sell it as "room for four adults" but that's just bogus. Basically a dog would be nice and comfortable back there, but I wouldn't try to squeeze my kid back there.
That car is perfect for a single person, a couple, or empty nesters.. And I'm sure it's great to drive. I might drive one just for the heck of it... but I'm not trading in my 6.

"Basically a dog would be nice and comfortable back there, but I wouldn't try to squeeze my kid back there."

    huh?

last time I sat in the rear seat of the RX-8 and it was very comfortable, for a HUMAN!!!!!

You seemed to have gotten a pretty good deal on your car, $1500 off invoice if my calculations are correct, did you qualify for any discounts like mazda loyalty or s-plan?
  • justinjustin Member Posts: 1,918
so, does anyone that have a 6 regret it? do you all think it is in the realm, quality wise, with the Cam/Cords out there?

my step mom has a V6 94 626 5 speed - no problems yet all - a little over 100k miles. she loves it. i had a 323 that was great, and a Protege that was AWFUL quality/reliability wise.

can you get a V6 M6 WITHOUT that body cladding stuff and WITHOUT the painted silver a/c controls?

The MSRP was $19,970 and the TMV for my area is $19,137. Invoice was $18,365. I got it for $18,100 and then added the customer loyalty rebate ($1000) and Mazda credit rebate ($250) which brings it down to $16,850 @ 0% for 60 months. I don't know if you can still get the rebates AND the 0%? I'm still proud of the deal, even though I didn't have to try very hard.
  • newcar31newcar31 Member Posts: 3,711
What makes it even better, is that I got that deal on the car that I REALLY wanted.
  • chikoochikoo Member Posts: 3,008
I am bieng quoted $22300 for a Glacier silver metallic MZ6s Manual with black Cloth + Sport package.
(no bose speakers, no other options).

Guys give me a good way to bring this down to 20,000.

and ashu, i did get ur email...got confused with ur explanation
  • newcar31newcar31 Member Posts: 3,711
Sounds like he/she is quoting you $300 below MSRP. I'm not sure what kind of deals people have been getting on the V6/manual/sport package cars, but that doesn't sound like a very good deal. At $20K, you're almost $900 below invoice. Is this possible on a V6/manual/sport package car?
  • ashutoshsmashutoshsm Member Posts: 1,007
Also realize, Nick - that you cannot get the rebates (almost 2K now) nor the 0% financing on the Sport Package.

    You have more email ...
  • ian2ian2 Member Posts: 168
Cars with sport package are rare! Even if you can find one, dealers aren't likely to deal much. $900 below invoice would be unheard of.
  • chikoochikoo Member Posts: 3,008
    Carsdirect is going crazy!!!!

    CarsDirect Price: $23,635
    MSRP Price: $23,335
    Invoice Price : $21,465

    (MZ6s + sport package + bose)
  • chikoochikoo Member Posts: 3,008
    "Value Sport package"
    and "Appearance Package"

Value sport package offers front/rear sports facia
whereas Appearance package mentions front air dam and rear skirt.

    What's the difference?
  • ashutoshsmashutoshsm Member Posts: 1,007
Appearance adds on body-kit parts (visible seams) to the non-Sport package front & rear bumpers, plus the side skirts (which are addon pieces irrespective of SP or not)

Value Sport (IIRC) is comprised of the seamless one-piece front and rear bumpers from the Sport package.

Neither offers EC gauges, Rear Wing Spoiler nor 17" wheels. Only Appearance (IIRC, CMIIW) adds side skirts.

The merits/likes/dislikes/preferences of all these sub-components are debated heavily here and elsewhere (you-know-where). I personally like all components of all these, although I have a small preference for the lip spoiler over the wing :|

Went around 2:30. Walked in, they asked me if I wanted to do it, I said sure! paid my $39 went it. Placed on the leader board for "fun" (i.e., lowest) category, my cheap thrill for the day. Well, you know the rest. It is true that smooth beats trying to hard to get you around the course. Anyway, pretty fun day.

They said they had a few slots still available for the weekend, first come first serve. I imagine it will be a lot busier tomorrow.

The day finally arrived, yesterday I picked up my new Lapis Blue, fully loaded 6s Sport. What a beautiful car!!! I couldn't stop staring at it.

And does this baby drive like a dream!! I haven't had much time to "zoom" around like I wanted, but I'm already thinking of excuses to drive somewhere. It's still pretty tight, and I'm taking it easy to break it in properly, varying my speeds, etc., but it's already feeling a tad bit more "open." It could be that it's my imagination or maybe I'm just getting more comfortable with it already.

I gotta say it: I love this car!!! I know I have this cheesy grin and goofy look on my face as I'm driving. I just can't help it. And this is just the beginning.

My family likes it too, even my Mom, who was sad to see me sell my Camry. She says that it rides just as nice as the Camry and that she was very comfortable in the back seat. She compared it to being in a limo and she never said that about my Camry! Maybe it's the leather seats. Both her and my sister were pleasantly surprised by how roomy the interior is and how comfortable it was. It is much larger on the inside than they thought it was from the outside. They were very impressed with the car, and they're not impressed by much, so that's really saying something.

I, for one, am loving the excellent handling, quiet engine and smooth ride. I don't understand why some critics called the Sport package ride "harsh". It's not harsh to me at all. No, it's not as soft and cushy as my Camry was, but that's a good thing IMHO. I prefer the ride and drive of the 6 and I feel more confident and in control. I've also been having some fun with the Sport AT, putting it in manual mode. It's a fascinating feature for someone (like me) who always wanted to but never learned how to drive a stick shift.

I'm loving this car!! Can you tell? LOL

I know that there are other Mazda 6 forums on the internet and we're not supposed to mention them here. Would someone please email me with the web addresses? My email address is listed on my profile. Thanks so much.

What a beautiful weekend to get a new car! I am going to enjoy every minute of it.

    Zoom-zoom!!

Although I waited for what seemed to be a long time (though not as long as some people), I have to say that Mazda Corporate made this experience as pleasant as they could. Though I was a bit frustrated when the plant closing delayed delivey of my car, my Mazda rep kept me informed and even gave me an extra key free of charge. These keys cost about $150 for the blank and the programming, so that was a real bonus.

She also had my car specially trucked in on a flat-bed tow truck so that I would have it for the weekend. Otherwise, my car would not have arrived until Monday. She really went above and beyond to get me my car as quickly as possible and to compensate me for the delay. She didn't have to do all these extra things at Mazda's expense, but I'm grateful and appreciative that she did. I feel like she did all she could to ensure that I was a happy customer. I believe that Mazda really does care what their customers think.

My dealership, Metro Mazda (Ferndale, MI) also treated me very well. The Sales Manager is giving me a free cargo net and I got 2 keyrings along with my keys. Very nice ones, though they do have the dealership name on them, of course.

My salesman took quite a bit of time to show me how everything worked on the car (again) and we even took a short spin in it so he could show me how the Sport AT works. They introduced me to the Service Department and the owner, which I appreciated. Very professional.

They were really impressed with how great the Sport Grille looks on my car. I am extremely pleased with it myself. I guess my car was the first one that they saw with the Sport Grille, which surprised me. I think they may order some Sport Grilles for some of the other cars on the lot, now that they've seen firsthand how good it looks.

I think the front view looks much better with the Sport Grille, especially in the blue, IMHO. I'm very glad that I got it and I'm very happy with the Lapis Blue color. I am much happier with it than I think I would have been with the Sepang Green. I guess I just like blue. It is my favorite color after all.

Also, I am getting my first oil change (at 2,500 miles) for free. I didn't know that Mazda offered that. Or is my dealership responsible for giving me the free oil change? Either way, that is just another small bonus for me. I'm cool with that. :-)

My salesman told me that I will be getting some touch-up paint in the mail later on. All in all, I feel like I was treated very well by Mazda and my dealership and I even got a few nice "perks" along the way. I have a beautiful, awesome car that was worth the wait and I plan to enjoy happy and trouble-free motoring for a long time. Life is good. Truly.

Alright, I've babbled on enough. I'm just happy and excited. Thanks for listening. Time to do some more zooming. (BIG grin)

Saw 3 of them today. Two with sport packages or the appearance package in grey. I also saw a non sport model that had some sort of crome thing on the trunk above the license plate. It looked like the a rear version of the mustache. It looked pretty tacky to me. Is it related to the chrome filler door thing or is it just aftermarket fluff?
  • carguy58carguy58 Member Posts: 2,303
Maybe Mazda dealers are finally getting better and treating their customers good.

I saw a silver 6 at a gas station the other day without the sport package but had a spoiler on the back end of the car. I liked the way it looked. Some girl was driving it. Also I saw another(wasn't sure of the color) with some lady driving it. I see more 6's than anybody else on this board does(it seems like that anyway)so I don't nofify the board all the time like I used to when the 6 first debut. But like I said before its nothing special to see a 6 anymore.

Are there any 5-speed stick enthusiasts who opted for the automatic with the manumatic feature? I'm wondering if you find it enjoyable and "engaging" enough. I've never liked a straight automatic, I tend to get bored. I'm considering the 6's automatic because of some critical comments I've read about smooth shifts with the manual stick.
  • pzevpzev Member Posts: 807
Can someone tell me at what RPM is the 4-cyl engine running at highway speeds at around 65mph? Would like to know for the automatic. Is the manual much different? I've heard that the Protege runs at high RPM at highway speeds so was wondering if this 4-cyl and the gearing is doing the same thing or not. Thanks for any responses.

  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
I observed about 3050-3100 at 75MPH. Based on this 65MPH would be about 2640-2680. This was on the 6i-MT, but the overall gear ratios in top gear are the same on the 6i-AT and 6i-MT. This is not the case for the 6s, though.
  • glideslopesglideslopes Member Posts: 431
My 6s is the first AT automobile I have ever owned. The AT in my 6s has been flawless through 4,000 miles. I find the Manu-Matic feature quite useful primarily in gear holding situations. If I am in day to day driving I select D. I will from time to time shift manually in normal driving, and while not the same as a MT it does provide me with a grin factor that fills the need for me anyway. The AT is about 1 sec slower to 60. Most of my driving is freeway at 80-85 these days. I find the AT 6s easier to drive than the MT in this situation. If I were an aggressive driver with lots of curves, and hills the MT would be a better choice IMO.

In summation, I am very happy with my AT 6s. Will it ever replace a MT 6s? That totally depends on the needs and expectations of each owner on a car for car basis. If I were still in my 20's-30's I'd own the MT hands down.

    Good luck,
    Mark. : )

Heh. No accounting for taste. Obviously we disagree on the attractiveness of that particular accessory. Don't let me keep you from enjoying your car. BTW, it doesn't happen to have curb feelers too does it? :-)

research and soul searching, the answer to the mysterious little oval on the console is:

    Mazda is owned by Ford
    Ford logo is oval
MZ6 may become the NEW Ford Falcon ?????
