any do's or dont's i should keep in mind for a new vehicle?
The 2001 ram will then be availble in january for orders. The reason for this move is that chrysler s cafe limit will be breached for the 2000 model year. it means that the total of all chrysler van and trucks, fuel consumption will be over the allowable limit, so there 's only one way to get around this, without facing a huge penalty, and that is to stop year 2000 production, and bring out the 2001 model. Since they go by year haveing the rams being 2001 models there limit will be back under the max requirements, I think it's 25mpgs, but not really sure.
P.S Just bought a 2000 ram 4x4 qc diesel, an just think people who own a 2000 model truck will be owning a special limited model year truck. So 20 years from now you can say that you were one of only handful of owners who have trucks built that model year, plus it's the millenum model, which if they don't make very many this model year, it going to be a shoe in to being a classic in the future!!! So think of it being a special model year!!!
By the way, "dodgeram" said he got a 2500 diesel which will get closer to 20 mpg highway and 16 mpg city. I believe you are thinking of the gas engine getting such low mileage. Actually, even the gas engine (V-8 or V-10) gets better than 12 highway. I know two people with the V-10 and 4x4 that get around 14 mpg highway.

I would hope that orders are fill in somewhat of a reasonable sence, by date ordered, if all parts are available. I am fully aware of the sitiuation with the 6 speeds(40 a day -1000 a month yea, yea), yet dealers seem to still mis-lead customers and say they can get the truck in 8-10 weeks,no problem.(2 that I've been in contact with gave me this line)
I am a paying customer not a dealer who is ordering 50 or 100 trucks for floor stock,I have been waiting for 10 weeks now and DC hasn't even built it. 2 weeks on average just for delivery(Calif.) and I'm looking at middle of Nov. at best. To me it sounds like 2000 will be the [non-permissible content removed] year where they only made trucks for 4 mo.....
Frustrated
Trying to stay loyal !!!!
Here's an article to explain:

Concerning the 'Surge' feeling from the torque converter locking and unlocking. There is a TSB that is supposed to fix this problem. It's number 18-02-99. I had it done to mine, but I have a Cummins in my truck. Not sure if the same TSB would be used for gas engines also. Just an FYI...

i'd rather upgrade my truck and plow my own drive rather than pay someone. i'd hate to overburden a 1500 with the work i need to do.
I've been tracking it through Chrysler and the railroad systems. I just pulled the UPRR status on my truck, and it's reached the end of its train ride. It should be delivered to my door next weekend!
Barbarajo, tell jennifer to get crackin' on mine, glad some of you guys are enjoying what I would like to be enjoying.
littledakota,
Let me know how you like your 5-speed.

Just wanted to let you know that my new RAM should be here the last week in November or first week in December. The delivery date is scheduled for November 5th. The order was placed October 1st. Not too bad. The truck is Black Sport SWB QUAD, SRW, 4x4, TT, HDSG, SLT+, tan leather, CD. I am getting really anncy now. What is this I hear that they are stopping production and 2000 Ram's are going to be collector's edition model's. Is this true or just a myth. Thanks for the advice earlier on what to do when I get it.
Sincerely, Bob
Comments? Thanks.
GOOD LUCK to anyone else struggling with this.

The ETH Cummins diesel will show up with the 2001 Ram. It will be offered with the six speed manual only for now. The 2002 Ram wuill be the new body style, but like Ford, only the light duty platform will be introduced. The heavy duty Rams will wait a year extra. The 2003 HD Rams will feature a brand new Cummins and will offer a substantially stronger automatic for both the diesel and the V10.
Hope that helps some decision making.

I'm pretty new to the 5th wheel business, but if you have the extended pin box you don't need the sliding 5th wheel. Also they are over $2500 where a regular hitch shouldn't be more than $500. The only place the sliding hitch is needed is if you have a short bed and a regular pin box as I understand it. I have the short bed with my Chevy and the dodge I have ordered. Also I have the extended pin box and I have never had any trouble turning sharply.
My trailer has one slide out and weights 7000 empty, 9000 gross. My wife would like a double slide and thats the reason I got the 4.10 . To give me more options than I had with my Chevy in picking our next camper. Problem is I have only been towing a year, and I'm doing much better in tight spaces, but most of those she likes are around 33 feet long. And I can barely make the turns going to our favorite spot in the woods with the 27 footer. I don't know if they make doulbe slides that short. I may have to cut some trees (G).
Looking forward to the Dodge, V10, 4x4, auto and 4.10 SLT+. We are leaving the first of the year for Arizona. Plan to get a few miles on the truck plus a test run before the big trip. Rich
I have heard of a modified K&N Filter for the Dodge Ram. Does this really get more Horsepower and what model number is it? Is it easy to install?
Thanks, Expecting RAM owner
The original word on the 2001 was there would be no significant changes except the ETH would be available. But now there are rumors that other changes may be coming. I called 1-800-4adodge Friday and just got the runaround. They said they could not comment on anything till 1/1/2000. Here is a copy of an article that refers to the possible changes. This can be found at

But here's the big news, an inside source tells me that diesels equipped with an automatic transmission will be bumped up from their current 215 hp / 420 lb. ft. to the same output as the five-speed equipped Rams. Notice I said "an Automatic" instead of 47RE. As I understand it, the 47 RE already has difficulty handling the diesels massive torque output. So how has Dodge solved the problem?
Good question . . . I'm not sure, here are three possible scenarios. The first is that Dodge will introduce a super heavy duty evolution of the 47RE (48RE?) In January. The second, they will debut an all new DC built transmission.
Several months back I told you about a heavy duty
five-speed automatic codenamed "Brute." The Brute has been developed for use with the Charger and Copperhead (if it's built). It's also been considered for use with the next generation Viper (though my source doesn't see that happening). Like the Autostick, the Brute can be shifted manually. The buzz is that DC has also designed a version of this transmission for the Ram truck.
The third scenario has Dodge using a transmission from an outside supplier, the five-speed Allison T1000 transmission seems to be the leading contender. The electronically controlled transmission can handle up to 545 lb. ft of torque, so the turbo diesels output wouldn't be a problem.
We don't have a diesel with problems and we're not in a quandry as to which gear ratio to buy. Unfortunately, the only answers that seem to get posted anymore are about how you can get 15 mpg out of your diesel instead of 14.5 mpg and what the turn radius is if you're towing a 37 ft 5th wheel through a hairpin turn in the Colorado Rockies.
I would like to see more information on the Dodge Ram in general and less on the technical specifications on the diesel engine torque converter.
If you guys are so fetishly infatuated with a obnoxiously loud and nauseatingly smelling diesel engine, then please create your own topic. The last time I checked, this topic was for the 2000 Dodge Ram in general.
Sure we could all rant and rave about our trucks, but would that gain much, probably not. Halifaxx if you have observations, questions, concerns or anything else remotely Ram related that you want to share then please do so - rest assured if anyone has anything to comment on regarding your post they will do so.
If you want your questions answered I would suggest that you not insult others. If you want to see information on the Dodge Ram in general then go to their web site. If you just want to complain, I suggest you go to an existing forum "Women".
I ordered a Lund Avenger P/N 72067 that was supposed to fit but the mounting holes do not line up with the grille attachment screws. I can't find the 2000 Ram listed on any manufacturer's web sites.
Any help from someone who has actually installed a bug deflector on their 2000 Ram 1500 QC would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Mine in brief: I ordered a 2000 Ram 1500 4X2 SWB Sport, black, 5.9L, auto, SLT+ ("H" package and SLT+ Decor). Nice truck! Invoice was approx. $24,925. I paid $100 over invoice, plus $475 regional advertising fee and the usual crap (tax, title, etc.). The dealer, in Clearwater, FL, advertises itself as the largest-volume Dodge dealer on Florida's west coast (i.e., Tampa Bay). When I first contacted them by email, they quoted me as low as $200 under invoice. He kept going up and down, and when I pretended I was going to walk away from the deal, he came up with an additional $500 rebate, which you get simply by joining Farm Bureau for a year at a cost of $35.
All in all, I think I got a pretty good deal. I dealt with no retail people, only their Internet guy, and with the Farm Bureau rebate, came in at almost $400 under invoice. (Needless to say, there aren't a lot of farmers in Clearwater, but when I called Farm Bureau, they had no problem with taking my $35 and giving me the $500 rebate.) The advertising fee seemed steep, but all the dealers I checked with said they had no control over it. (Another dealer in Tampa wanted $450 for advertising, was willing to match $100 over invoice, but wanted a $140 "delivery fee" -- a pure dealer add-on -- and said nothing about the rebate.)
Anyway, I'm hoping to get the truck before the holidays. I'd be curious to know how others did with pricing, what they paid for regional advertising, and whether they got the Farm Bureau rebate.
