I'm considering buying either a 250 crew cab 4X4 short bed or a 4X4 150 supercrew. each has its good and bad points: The 250 is bigger inside (about 10" more hip room)and out - bigger bed but being bigger outside makes it harder to maneuver too. I think that the 250 looks better on the outside - not "Taurusized" - a truck isn't supposed to be soft; the 250 looks tougher. the 250 costs more to operate (and buy with the same options?). But on the other hand the 150 will ride smoother - and this will be used mainly for family hauling - not a work truck except for the occasional yard of topsoil/lumber etc. And the supercrew is nicer on the inside Anybody have any thoughts on this comparison?
I ordered my Supercrew on Dec 28th 1999.(see post 126 earlier in this thread) I then sat back and waited, and waited. I started seeing other people who had ordered after me getting there trucks and my order still said "clean and unscheduled". So I called my dealer and he assured me that the truck must have already been built and just stuck in some rail yard. At this point I should have bet big money against that possibility. Two days later he calls to say that the truck has not been built and isn't even scheduled yet!! Somehow it got assigned a priority number 40 which must mean build it when hell freezes over. He now says it has a priority 10 which means build it right away. So I have to start all over waiting for my truck to arrive. My warning is to all folks who have ordered a Supercrew and received a dora from their dealer. On the dora is the priority code. On mine it was about four lines from the top on the right side. It clearly show priority 40 and had I known way back in January that that was not right I could have already had my truck. So to those of you still waiting check to see what priority your truck has been given. The dealer tells me it is usually a "12" but this is the same dealer that said the truck must be in a rail yard somewhere.
So now I go back to waiting. Thanks to all of you for some great reading while I'm waiting.
I ordered my Supercrew on Jan 19. The DORA lists a priority code of 45. Is that after Hell freezes over and the polar ice caps melt? My truck was in the "clean and unscheduled" state until Feb 18. Then it was listed as "temporary delay in production." As of March 8, it has been listed as "scheduled to be built the week of April 3" I hope to take delivery by the end of April.
By the way, my dealer has told me nothing. If it weren't for the VOPC, I'd still be in the dark and wondering if I was ever going to see my truck
I still haven't received mine. I ordered back on Jan 18, with an eta of 3/6. The dealer told me it would probably be about a week late. Well this is the late week, so my fingers are crossed in hopes that it's coming. I was wondering what kind of insurance rates you guys are getting? I have an unblemished record, and didn't expect the quote my Allstate agent gave me. I thought it was kind of high, for my record. Anybody have any web sites, I can try for some quotes? Any, and all, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Try Prudential, I have been with them for a few years and periodically request quotes from other companies for identical coverage, and none of them have beat them yet, some were $300-$600 a year higher!! Hope this helps, good luck. Bob
Ordered the SuperCrew XLT 4x2 today with 5.4L, limited slip, towing package, moonroof, etc!!! Got it for $500 over invoice. Dealer says wait time is 6-8 weeks give or take 2. Priority code is 10. Insurance quote for $475 with State Farm. Anyone seen better? Is there a way to check the status of my order other than calling the dealer? What is VOPC (lmadsen)?
Sorry for the back to back post. The $475 insurance quote was for 6 months and I found an answer to the VOPC question a hundred or so posts back. Thanks for the great posts.
The bad news is you have to do the shopping yourself unless you are talking to your next door neighbor. I am an insurance agent and there are SO MANY variables that are considered. Besides driving record, and type of auto, rates can vary based on age, single or married, your zip code, your state... Shop around. Talk to the independent guys (That is what I am) and the captive guys (State Farm, Allstate, Nationwide...). I don't know which ones are the "best" where you live. In my area, some of the strong independent comapnies are Travelers, Erie, Progressive. I am sure there are others. The point is not to point you in any particular direction - but to tell you to do your homework. A good agent will give you the price over the phone but expect to give them some info about you (address, SSN or DL number, age, family status). Let's face it, what good is a quote if it is not accurate. Remember too, some insurance companies have several commission levels for the same product. Just a few tips from a guy on the other side of the desk...
I bought a Supercrew Lariat 4x4 but didn't care for the rims that came with it. (nothing wrong with them, just not my style) Now I'd like to sell the factory rims but I have no idea what they're worth. Less than 100 miles on them and taking up garage space....anyone have a clue? I've checked tirerack.com, etc... but can't find that model...in fact I don't even know who makes them for Ford. Help is appreciated. Ron
Need some help fast. I am ordering a 2001 Super Crew 4x4 Lariat tomorrow and I still can't decide on which engine. I have driven the 5.4 and like it, but I don't plan on pulling anything substantial. Considering the decreased gas mileage and initial $680 for the 5.4, is it worth it? Anyone with experience with a 4.6L in a big truck like this? Any reviews of the 4.6? 4.6L gas mileage?
Go with the 5.4. I think it's the engine that best "fits" the truck all things considered.
BTW, I want to order a F-150 Super Crew Lariat 4x2, 5.4 v-8, tow package, limited slip and sliding rear window. Anyone recommend a florida dealer that can get close to invoice or does anyone know about how much I should expect to pay?
Thanks for all the great information on this site. I drove a 4X2 Supercrew XLT yesterday and thought it was great. However, I want to be able to haul my HD Fatboy from time to time. Has anybody been able to fit a full size motorcycle in the bed w/extender. Also, how is the ride of the F150 sb compare to the supercrew. The reason I ask is that the salesman told me that the s/b has a bigger cargo area. Thanks for your help.
pbsaz, I know a fatboy is bigger than a normal dirt bike. Over on F150online.com they have pictures of some guys with their bikes in the back. Hope this helps. By the way, still waiting.
I just ordered a SuperCrew for $300.00 over invoice. The dealer is happy because he is getting a holdback from Ford + $300.00, and he pretty much just had to write up the order. I am happy because I feel like I got a deal. When they order a vehicle, it's not sitting around on the lot not making them money. Good luck
Well gang, my wait is all but over. Drove by my dealer, and there it was. Two weeks after the eta, but there it was. I'll be going in after work tomarrow, and take it home. Those of you still waiting, they do eventually show up. PS just in time for the weekend, I feel a local mountain drive coming.
I ordered a 4X2 Supercrew Lariat about 3 weeks ago. The deal was $650 over invoice. They told me 6-8 weeks. I just checked the Priority code...it's 40. So what do I do now? Can I get it bumped up to a lower number to get it faster? I was told last week when I called the dealer that Ford had submitted the order to built it. I guess I need to swing by there & chat with them to see what's going on. My old Honda is not going to last much longer- I need this truck! I ordered white with Harvest Gold trim, 5.4L, towing package. Do any of you know if the bed extenders are available yet? My dealer told me I would just have to order it later from the Parts Dept. when the bed extenders were available. Also, I'm on the fence about a bedliner: spray on, drop-in, or mat....any thoughts anyone?
Getting ready to buy diesel, dually, Ford 350, automatic Larait LE. Told only 5000 made. This one is on the lot. 43k+ msrp. Anyone know of one in their area? What might be a "fair" offer. I will need to fly there to p/u so that will be an additional cost. This model has 4 captains chairs with leather. My plan is to put a Lance cabover, probably 1120 or 1130. Any suggestions or things I should ask? Thanks!
I understand why they're not there: because Ford isn't required to put them in. But talk about stupid.
This may seem trivial to some of you, but not to me. And it's enough to keep me from buying what is otherwise a beautiful vehicle.
This isn't just because of the safety issue per se. It's also because I don't want to support such a cheap and short sighted corporate decision by Ford. They've created an obvious and glaring safety defect to save a few bucks.
Ordered my super crew with the options I wanted. It took about 15 minutes at the dealer and cost me $100 over invoice. I walked in with my Edmund's printout and immediately asked if they would sell me the s.c. at $100 over invoice. Told them the options and watched as they wrote up the order. I probably paid too much as some dealers are selling at $50 over, but no hassle. The only thing different with Edmunds dealer cost vs. actual was the shipping charges. About $35 more. Good Luck. By the way, I live within 10 miles of where they are built in KC MO.

I bought a Ford Super Duty CrewCab because GM doesn't offer AirBags in their CrewCabs, not even an option. The rear seats in the CC doesn't have headrests either, but they are higher, my 10 year old has a couple of years to go before his head is over. You can buy the clip on ones. No truck is perfect, but for the super duties there is no truck out there that compares. Plus the SuperCrew is in a class by it's self. I opted for airbags over rear headrests.......
i'm in the market for a new truck and i really like the Ford Supercrew; however, i'm concerned about bugs in such a new truck design. the Toyota Tundra, for instance, suffers from low oil pressure during idling and steering console vibration. so my question is for those who already have a supercrew: has anyone discovered any problems, flaws, or bugs in their new trucks? thanks.
rjcabin, I know there is an 800 # in a previous post. You might want to scroll back and check it out. yolia, I picked mine up last week. I have had no problems what so ever. The one thing that I have found to be odd, is the seat control buttons. I have the lariat pkg. 60/40 front bench. The buttons to the automatic seat controls, are hard to get to when the driver door is closed. There's not a lot of room between the door and the side of the seat. Getting my hand in there to move my seat, requires a bit of effort. Once you find your comfort spot, this shouldn't be a problem. Hope this helps
I would not be concerned about the Screw being a new model. This crossed my mind when I was contemplating ordering mine last fall, but I reasoned the following.
The most important thing about a new vehicle, from my perspective, is the drive train and other related mechanical parts. Aside from a different placement of a rear shock absorber, the drive train and other external mechanical parts already existed on other F150 products in almost identical fashion to existing F150 products. The front doors come from the Expedition. The two most common complaints from F150 owners over the last 2 years has been cracking door/window issue and the piston slap on the 5.4. The doors is not going to be a problem because they used expedition door. The 5.4l they supposedly fixed and so that shouldn't be a problem either.
The only thing really new on this is rear cab design, bed design and some other internal items. As I mentioned in a previous post my Screw has on rare occasions had a wind noise on driver's side door at 70+mph. Other threads have suggested it takes a while for Ford weather stripping to seal properly, so I am waiting a little longer to take this in. Other than that my truck has been great.
Woody,
Congrats, on your truck. I have only seen 2 other Screws in Dallas (besides on lots) so far. And wouldn't you know it one was exactly the same as mine. Color combination, 2 wheel drive Lariat, exactly. I guess some one else has the same taste.
By the way, it is fun getting the responses I do in this truck. Yesterday at a stop light this guy kept looking over my truck and all he could do was keep giving me a thumbs up while he was wiping the drool off his mouth.
Hey guys - well, it looks like I am heading going for the Ford Supercrew over the Dakota Quad. I am putting my order together to price out with dealerships and I was wondering what the board's take was on the 3.55 axle and limited slip. I know this has been explained ad nauseum on earlier posts, but I'm too lazy to go back and find it! I will be getting a 4x4 with the bigger V8. Won't do much towing (at least for the first year or so) but plenty of off-roading in snow, mud, and sand. First off: is the smaller V8 well-suited to this vehicle? Id love to save a few MPG with the lighter engine, but somewhere in my memory I remember a review that said weight wise, power, torque, etc. the smaller V8 was not well mated to this truck. 5.4 was better. Dealer told me I[d only see a 1-2 mpg difference between the bigger V8 and the 4.6. Also, is limited slip necessary when you're actually in 4x4 (low or high)? Finally, is the audio system any good on this vehicle. I wasn't that impressed in my test drive and if I'm going to replace it with an aftermarket I won't bother footing the extra 210 for the 6-disc CD changer, cassette etc.
just wanted to thank you all. I ordered a SuperCrew on March 22,and saved 800.00 thanks to these comments. Priority code 10. Ordered a Lariat 4x4, 5.4, red/parchment. moonroof, sliding rear window, skid plates, and I was able to order the bed extender. I did not order the 6 disc changer because I really did not need the tape player and the changer would be behind the back seat (60/40 bench up front) It would be jsut as easy for me to change out one at a time.
I too am interested in the aftermarket steps and also the pray on liner. I may also want to replace the chrome wheels.
It's going to be a long 8 or so weeks. thanks gain!
klloyd, I thought you left us, in search for that perfect road trip. How's life with the truck. You're not kidding about the attention. I'm not used to the attention I'm getting driving around town. I should say the attention the truck is getting. Remember The fear I had about closing my deal. Turned out great! This was the best car buying experience I've ever gone through. I don't believe anybody should buy a vehicle without the info here in Edmunds. Have fun with your ride!
Hi Woody and KLloyd. I have just had one small problem and that is with the weather stripping above my front windshield. It came partially loose and was actually laying back on my roof. I put it back in place and it is staying so far. I'll get the dealer to look at it at my 5000 mile service. No big deal. That is the only problem I have encountered so far. I just took the SuperCrew down to Galveston and back and it was a joy to drive. I have not noticed the whistle that you get KLloyd at 70 mph. Mine is quiet and very comfortable to drive. Gas mileage was 16 on the highway. I have found out that white is a very popular color. I have seen 4 others just like mine including a mom whose son goes to school with my son. I just had chrome nerf bars added to mine by Texas Trick Shop in Mesquite who also added my Line-X. They look great and were $100 less than Ford. Otherwise I am fine, thanks for asking Woody. MJohn
Today the wait begins, oredered supercrew lariat 4X4 with everything but moonroof, paid $450 over invoice in Texas, anybody want to know where let me know, ordered over the phone with 0 down, already recieved D
Sorry I sent that by accident before finished, anyway just wanted to say already have DORA with a priority of 10.Great salesman and dealer.Does anybody know if the factory cab steps are for all 4 doors are just the front,by the way I went with Wedgewood blue over harvest gold
Ok gang, this be my first message with 'ya. I am about to order my 150 Crew but wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts on pulling a fifth wheel? I know the distance between rear wheel center line and cab is verrrry short. Will a fifth even work????? Also, anyone have any clues when the drop down tv will be available? My salesman says they could install it after-the-fact if I purchase now.....but he is a salesman after all!!!!! Why should't I trust him???? Thanks, gang.
Does anybody know for sure that you cannot get the alloy wheels on a 4X4 lariat, the dealer and all the websites say you can only get the chrome steel wheels, you can only get the alloys on a XLT,why would you not be able to get the premium wheels on the Lariat, any ideas or suggestions
kharris - I would be interested to know where your dealer in Texas is that you got 450 over. I am in California, so with a small drop ship charge (or a quick flight to Dallas) I might save myself money over these California sharks! Thanks.
Bought my new XLT Super Crew from Roy May at Marshall Ford in Hempstead, Tx. Great "Grand Opening" special price(less than invoice !!!) There may not be any more 'DEALS', but these guys are easy to deal with. Suggest you avoid Texan Ford. Only one day, but great truck. Tell Roy I referred you.. 1.800.USA.2250
Have ordered my SuperCrew with Cab Steps...was led to believe they were like the SuperCab...black round bar-like with flat step positions...have seen a few SuperCrews running around town in Virginia and they have black flat plastic steps...not as clean as the black metal bars. Anyone know if this is what I'm getting for my 18E cab step option, i.e, black flat plastic???
bill1064, like you, I have seen the flat plastic steps on the ones at the dealerships. I stood on one (210 lbs) and it was not as sturdy as I would have thought it should be. I would follow up with the dealer if I were you.
By the way, what kind of deal did you get and where in VA did you get it? E-mail if you want to. Thanks.
I'm considering purchasing a Ford 150 in the near future. As a result of my employer's Fleet business with Ford a "special" offer is being extended to it's employees which is Ford's X-Plan. The information I have on this plan says it's a "no haggle" four percent above dealer net invoice pricing. Four percent above daler invoice doesn't seem like a very good deal to me, especially when I read in these forums of people getting deals slightly over or even under dealer invoice.
Is anyone out there familiar with this X-plan? I'm sort of confused as to why it's being touted as a "good" deal. Thanks for any help on this.

Anybody have any thoughts on this comparison?
Thanks - Rob H.
So I have to start all over waiting for my truck to arrive.
My warning is to all folks who have ordered a Supercrew and received a dora from their dealer. On the dora is the priority code. On mine it was about four lines from the top on the right side. So to those of you still waiting check to see what priority your truck has been given. The dealer tells me it is usually a "12" but this is the same dealer that said the truck must be in a rail yard somewhere.
So now I go back to waiting. Thanks to all of you for some great reading while I'm waiting.
By the way, my dealer has told me nothing. If it weren't for the VOPC, I'd still be in the dark and wondering if I was ever going to see my truck
Bob
Thanks in advance!

FYI- I paid $700 over dealers invoice. Fair deal
Just like the pictures, no rear seat headrests.

Just my opinion.
Ford's just being cheap.
Thanks.
They are black, similar to a nerf bar but instead of round they are oval or a flattened round style that provides a flat surface for step-up.
Thanks for any help
