I'm buying 08 Camry LE Automatic with no other options.
So far best deal I got is $19,500. The MSRP of the vehicle is $21,735. Invoice as listed on carsdirect.com is $19,889.
Called other NJ dealer mentioned him offer price I had he replied that he can beat it.
I will keep posting the progress but at this point I feel like it's time to close on the deal. I doubt It can get any better, what do you think?

Sounds like a GREAT deal. I also live in the Chicago area looking for a base LE/auto and the best I've got is $20,190 plus TTL

If you don't mind--what dealership gave you that price?

    THANKS
  • rts3rts3 Member Posts: 26
The dealers are Grossinger in Chicago and Heiser in Milwaukee .. pretty much similar quotes ... around 19.5k + ttl for the base 4 cylinder auto LE.

I really wanted to buy a Camry, but after a lot of research, I'm not buying it :( . There are pages and pages dedicated to 2007 and 2008 Camry's hesitation problem. People have gone to arbitration with Toyota and are almost declaring the 07 Camry a Lemon. I know the whole thread is about the Camry, and full of Camry owners, but I'm sorry to negate it like that after reading the following:

When I was there - and this was a while back - they seemed a lot more interested in selling me junk I didn't want/need than selling me the car I wanted. The reason for that is that their prices are actually pretty competitive, but the junk you have to listen to after the sale just doesn't stop (IMHO), and this is where they make their money. Of course, you can say no, but after a while this gets old, and you start saying to yourself "Is this what I came here for?" We walked out. But the follow up phone calls never seemed to stop.

I've heard similar stories about them too.

Great deal..... Was there a trade-in? or take the Toyota financing?
  • mayurjshahmayurjshah Member Posts: 37
I'm assuming the 19000 was before TTL? What was the OTD (including the mats & remote start, which were free)...?

This was in NJ - Hudson Toyota.
I do not have all numbers with me but doc fees were $199
I remember this being $50 more than I was quoted by other dealer.

MSRP was actually 21.936 - this was including floor mats.
Asked for the all weather mats but they could not give them to me - I believe there is a recall for all weather mats.

    6.5% financing. We financed $10K.

NJ tax, title fees dmv fees extra.
I can provide detailed numbers later.
Excellent experince friendly dealer however dealership itself is extremely busy and slightluy chaotic ...

By the way deler has installed alarm for free!!!

    Hope this helps.

    2008 LE V6 silver
I paid $21900+tax with 5pc carpet set, rubber mats, and touch-up paint. Still waiting on it to get here...

Great deal. Can you share with us any particular negotiation experience? My best quote is around $21,500 for base LE model. I have in Houston, TX.
  • beopersonbeoperson Member Posts: 73
    Hi zwind,
Try calling other dealers and see if they can do better.
I would get a list of dealerships withing reasonable distance and give them all call. Tell them you have already shopped and pretty much set do buy a car if price is right.
Don't hesitate to tell them quotes you already have.
They need to compete to each other in order for you to get a bargain.

    Hi beoperson,
I noticed that the price you paid did not include destination fee while it was included at the original MSRP. As I was talking to one of the sales man, he mentioned that the reason you guys at east or west coast would get a lower price was because you did not need to pay for this destination fee. Is it true for you or others that brought cars from east/west coast?
BTW, the destination fee for me is around $680.

I bought a LE camry today--according to them they threw in the floor mats. Over all I paid 21, 850 for the car--that's including title, tax and tag. I'm wondering if I over paid...what do you all think?
  • mvperez4jesusmvperez4jesus Member Posts: 231
so far yours is the best deal in NJ. specially for a 2008. there was someone who got the 07 for 20100, but included the college grad rebate at that time. you also got the remote starter. thanks, and enjoy
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
You don't give enough information for anyone to make an evaluation. State tax rates alone vary widely.

What was the MSRP of the vehicle?
What is the invoice of the vehicle?
Was there a trade? and if so what?
What was then the net cost of the vehicle?
How much got added for Tax?
How much got added for Title?
How much got added for administrative/doc fees?
This is your bottom line 21,850

Was this a cash deal, or did you finance thru dealership and what was the rate and payment?

I've an offer for an offer for a base Se 2008 @ 23,606 (include tax & license). I'm wondering if this is a good offer. Thanks

The problem has been resolved. A new TSB has been released just recently that corrects the issue permanently. If the vehicle was built before 8/2007, it will need the TSB applied.

Yes, Toyota has previously issued a few TSBs regarding the hesitation and they didn't always resolve the problem. This latest one does. See the posts on ToyotaNation. Those who have had the TSB performed have experienced a significant improvement in performance.

I am in negotiations to buy a used 2007 TCH that has every option. When I spoke to the seller the first thing he said was "this one came directly from Japan...it was one of the early ones". Are there any concerns about these vehicles I should be aware of? Are there any differences in equipment no matter how subtle?
  • jack47jack47 Member Posts: 312
there any concerns about these vehicles I should be aware of?

Absolutely. Just check some of the Toyota forums.

And you just might want to check what CR recently said ...or what the CEO of Toyota admitted to.

    I am not bashing Toyota...I own one. But I'd buy a '08 before I would buy a used '07.
  • billipsimobillipsimo Member Posts: 8
I thought the CR report was specific to the V6 only not the 4 cylinder or Hybrids.

My question is specific to where the vehicle originated from. As I was told this vehicle came directly from Japan unlike the majority of other 2007 TCH's.

    Anyone?
  • wvgasguywvgasguy Member Posts: 1,405
Closing in on 35,000 miles on my Japanese TCH. NO problems.
  • billipsimobillipsimo Member Posts: 8
Thanks for your reply! What is the history on the TCH's coming from Japan? Is it just a matter of the very first TCH's in production came from Japan?
  • talmy1talmy1 Member Posts: 55
They are still coming from Japan. Our end-of-model-year TCH came from Japan. Likelihood probably depends on where you are, we are in Oregon.
  • fxguyfxguy Member Posts: 132
Can you link to what the CEO of Toyota said?
  • bigmike2bigmike2 Member Posts: 96
Mine was built in Kentucky in March and has had none of the issues described.

My guess about this is that there were some problems with the transmission software (and maybe hardware) early on. They started making 07's back in the middle of 06. Toyota fixed the problems, but did as it did with the sludge problem of 4-5 years ago; it was arrogant and would not come clean with owners. In the case of the sludge problem, they wound up in a class action suit. In this case, they got some really bad publicity which may be more damaging even though the cars are ok.
  • wvgasguywvgasguy Member Posts: 1,405
I have heard of NO transmission issues with the TCH

    Hi,

I have a quote for 2008 LE 4 Cyl Automatic with VSC for $20,613.00. Includes dest. fee $660 and floor mats $199.

    Is this a good deal?

    Please advise :confuse:
  • talmy1talmy1 Member Posts: 55
Pretty hard to have transmission issues since it doesn't really have a transmission like we all have known and loved. ;) One "gear" and always engaged (no clutches). Except for "P" the "gear shift" only changes the electrical operating modes.
  • moochachamoochacha Member Posts: 14
    How much is the VSC?

I got a quote for 2008 LE 4 Cyl Auto with Met Grey for $18,900 inc dest fee but exc $198 doc fee.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
Do a pricing scenario in Edmunds on a 2007, and then add the VSC. That will get you a ballpark delta for the VSC. I don't have my detail spreadsheet with me for my research before purchasing.

Another way to check it out, is go to www.fritzmall.com where they have online pricing. They usually preference a fair number of their cars with VSC...so you can compare a with and without.
  • glomerulusglomerulus Member Posts: 1
Hey, I read your post on edmunds.com and was wondering where you got the price from.

I live in Philadelphia and so far, I have had a price quote of $20,483 excluding tax and tag for Camry LE 2008. Is the $19,500 with or without tax and tag. Even if its without I think its a really good deal. I would really appreciate if you could share your experience with me as this is my first time I am buying a brand new car or which dealership in NJ is giving you $19,500.
  • iplanetiplanet Member Posts: 27
Where did you get a quote from? Can you give me the name of dealer?

    :)
  • iplanetiplanet Member Posts: 27
    You meant www.fitzmall.com? :confuse:

Based on the site, lowest I can go is about $20,046.00. I was also told by sales person that they have to charge Toyota adverising fee for $300.00, which I've never heard before - included in the price I got.

    Anyone?
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
    I think you meant $20,046, not 24,046...right?

    LE w/VSC

Not sure what you mean by $300, unless you are referring to it buried in their internet price. They are no haggle, take the internet price or leave it.
  • moochachamoochacha Member Posts: 14
Try Boch Toyota, Norwood, MA. The price I got was on Oct 10, $18.9k for a 4cyl LE.

    Good Luck!
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
You got a 2008 LE w/VSC for 18.9K, or is that a base LE you bought?

What were the dealer doc fees, and did you have a trade with your deal?
  • moochachamoochacha Member Posts: 14
    Base LE 4cyl
    plus Doc fee = $198
    plus Tax = 5%
    5.9% finance available

    No trade in

without finance will be $500 cheaper.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
great price, assuming that is not VSC since the added charge for that.
  • iplanetiplanet Member Posts: 27
I got LE 4 cyl. auto with same price today. No additional option.

Let me know if you're still interested. I got mine from Queens, NY.
  • ramaxramax Member Posts: 4
I just got today Camry base model with floor mats and paint and fabric protection for $19 200 plus TTL. They also tint all windows for free. OTD price was $19950. I'm living in Colorado. Good deal?
  • ramaxramax Member Posts: 4
Oh I forgot to add that this is 4 cyl auto
  • sandman46sandman46 Member Posts: 1,798
It must be a CE model...correct? What features doesn't this model have that are included on the pricier LE model?

    The Sandman :)
