One would expect so, if the reviews are good and they make the ride of the new Accord softer than the old one to compete with the Camry. Camry's haven't had any real competition for those who want a soft ride and quality car. The reviews of the new Accord haven't really addressed the issue.

The current fire sale on 2007 Accords prompted me to try one again yesterday. The dealer let me take it out most of the day. Beautiful car. Could have gotten it for a little under $23k loaded. But while it handled and braked much better than my Avalon, the ride was just too stiff for the extended drives I have to make. It actually was a harsher ride than my 8 year old Lumina police edition, which is not the softest around. I have to look at Camry's again if I can't want to wait for the new Accord.

Thanks to everyone. I took possession of my 2008 camry (LE 4cyl VSC with traction control) last night. I live in Maryland. Paid 19,500 plus TT. I bought from Koons Toyota Annapolis. The salesperson was great. Ask for Jared, tell him Sheryl sent you. This is my second purchase from this dealership.
Again, thanks to everyone for all your input. You can email me if you need the phone number LAKES123@YAHOO.COM.

Has anyone bought a 2008 Camry XLE V4 with leather recently? I am looking for one and wanted to know what others have paid for it - looking to find the best deal

Check the carmax.com web site for their new cars. It will give you a good fair price to shoot for.

After Toyota's mediocre showing last year, I expected new incentives. Of course, Toyota's site shows nothing that I could find, but here in Houston the dealers' websites show 0% financing for up to 3 years and low APR beyond that.

I inquired of Fitzmall and they said they only had 3.9% for 3 years. Anyone else seen any in their locality?

The other thing I was wondering about is any confidential factory to dealer incentives; last month Honda gave dealers more than $2000 to clear out the 07 Accords. Of course they didn't announce it, but if you knew about it from here, you could get an extra 2k off. Any rumors that Toyota is doing the same?

Any rumors that Toyota is doing the same?

I can't imagine any big incentives for the TCH since it's essentially the same car in 08. Granted this late in the game if they are the same price I'd go for the 08 so dealers will have to cut into their cut to move these. Toyo may help them some. Typically they assist like all mgfr's with lower interest rates. That way there is a large majority of people that never actually keep their cars for the term of the loan and it really doesn't cost them as much as say giving a $2000 rebate up front.

Honda is coming out with a significantly different Accord for probably the same price as the 07. I can't imagine wanting an 07 so it would take more than $2000 to move me considering when you drive it away it will probably have that much less value in 3 years than the 08 so all you save is the time value of money on the $2K. Buying an end of the year car does not make a lot of financial sense to me unless you're truly going to keep the car (4+ years) or they give you the HUGE rebates (like the $5000 +0% they always throw on Trucks at the end of the year_that's the only time to buy a truck!)

    Hello dealhunt,

Is there any way you can provide me with the dealer's name and phone number from Totyota green brook. The best price I got was $19,990 for 08 Camry LE plus Title, tax and other stuff.

    Thanks for your help.

In bayarea, I liked the drive/handling of a car at a dealer
that is selling as used (few hundred miles). I was told buyer's finance was declined - hence its rollback. Can this happen - don't the bank check credit before approving loan ?

It has stability, Nav, smart-key, heated-seats.

On edmunds private-party = 25K, Dealer-retail = $28K. I could go for 2008 new instead (for little more) but I feel brake pedals for 2008 are stiffer.

What should I pay and what checks on car to do - carfax history seems clean - there does not seem any buyer listed ? Should I ask to get it certified - do they do certified for few hundred miles.
  • bigmike2bigmike2 Member Posts: 96
Don't know all the other ins and outs, but I would check on whether and when it was registered with Toyota as being in service for warranty purposes.

Bought a new Mazda 929 once with a few hundred miles on it. Attributed that to it being brought in from another dealer. Real lemon. Blown head at 5k miles, never ran great after that. Transmission went out at just over 30,000 miles and they claimed it was not covered because the warranty period had expired: it had been placed in service several months before I bought it. After some fighting, Mazda covered it, but you don't want that kind of hassle.

I always read here in this forum that some people here got their 07 Camry LE 4cyl auto for $17988 plus tax, title and other fees from some dealers in so. calif. I emailed one, Power Toyota of Cerritos, and gave me a quote of $19,354 plus tax, title and other fees, and that includes a $500 rebate which is the same price here in Las Vegas, NV. I am willing to travel to southern cal if the aforementioned price is true. Where are these people and show your receipts if you are telling the truth?

As has been mentioned in other areas I generally will check to see when someone has signed up and how many posts they have made when a low price is posted, often times it's only one post and then they disappear, a sign of someone possibly trying to drum up business for their dealership, that or other details are left out.
  • shasta67shasta67 Member Posts: 109
The Toyota dealership in Victorville was advertising them for that price today. I don't have their phone number but you can check it out on the internet. It is called Valley-Hi.

Interesting aside in a Dallas Morning New article about the coming midsize sedan wars:

"At many Toyota stores, dealers are buying every Camry that's available from the factory, partly in anticipation of sales events. Toyota already offers low-interest financing and up to $3,000 in incentives on some models of '07 Camrys, according to Automotive News.

    Anyone seen evidence of this?

Not sure what the purpose of your reply is as I did not respond to you in the first place. Seems you have some anger management issues, I was merely stating my opinion, next time just skip over comments you don't like.

Just skip posts you don't like man. We try to be very civil in Edmunds as most of us are here for "fun, without the attitude". Read your post twice, as I didn't understand it at first and then it hit me.

So does this mean we should expect price cuts. possibly after the release of the 08 Accords and 08 Camrys?

I am actually hoping to buy one this weekend. But if there are some incentives coming up I may be able to wait.

As far as the big discounts on LE's I think those are sometimes deals offered on 1-2 cars to bring business into the lots, so you see them occasionally.

I'm rather new... so please be easy.

I am a recent grad, and plan on purchasing a Camry 07/08 (dont care) by the end of this month (September). I dont really care for any extras... LE is enough for me, and I'd even consider CE

Could anyone share their experiences and OTD cost for one? I'll be living in Seattle (Bellevue/Redmond) area...

    THANKS! :)

    Hello,

I am new here. I got an internet quote from a Socal dealer for 18,254 (DCH Oxnard) and another one for 18,300( Toyota Simi Valley), both plus tax/licensing/etc. I went to the first dealer and was about to start the purchase process but I pointed out to the internet salesman who is also doing the paper works that I will be financing through my credit union.

He was already taking my information but when he was at the part on SSN #, I told him that I am not giving it since I already have my credit union. He was insistent that he must have it and it's required under the law and he must run my credit report. Now this is the first time that I've heard like this. I told him no and walk away.

Anybody have encountered like this? The only reason I can think of is that they are sending my SSN# to multiple credit institution and get something out of it.
  • talmy1talmy1 Member Posts: 55
Interesting. In our Camry Hybrid purchase two months ago we paid cash, yet they asked for our SSN also. They said that they needed it to look up in a suspected terrorist database and had to report anyone in the list (however they could still sell the car!). They didn't run a credit report.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
    LOL, that sounds pretty lame.

Not sure, but you would think a terroist would be buying some old ratty pickup or something, rather than a new Camry Hybrid.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Many dealerships will ask you to provide that information however unless you are financing through them you do not have to provide that information to them. They will tell you that the Patriot Act requires the information and that is not so, only the lender is required to ask for that information.
  • insikinsik Member Posts: 6
A friend of mine said that it might be that they are selling my SSN# to other banks and get some money from it. The banks will surely be willing to pay for this in the hope of getting my business. Say, banks are willing to pay $50 and they send my SSN# to 10 banks. They have an additional $500 for no sweat.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,420
I really doubt that a bank would pay for SSN#s, since that is most probably illegal, and banks are one of the most regulated industries.

Also, I doubt any car dealer would risk their multi-million dollar business for $50-$500, and possibly end up in jail. :surprise:

I find this discussion interesting because the ss# requirement does not appear to be a standard practice. I say this because when attempting to buy a car out of state through a Fitzmall dealership (I am in New York and They are in maryland) and after working out a wonderful price for a 2007 Camry V6 vehicle (they also faxed me the invoice for my credit union), I was told by the dealer that I would be required to I fill out a credit report online through their website. I naturally refused because I did not believe they needed my personal identifiable information. After a few more discussions around their need to protect themselves I decided that protecting myself was more in my best interest so I ended up purchasing a compatible Camry, minus a few options, locally in NY without giving my SS# using a credit union check. I paid more for the vehicle but sleep well with my decision.

If anyone knows why some dealers need the SS# and some don't, please fill us in...
  • insikinsik Member Posts: 6
I was able to talk to the internet sales manager and he said that it is their policy to get the SS# and run credit for all sales. But he said that he can make an exception for me if I will just come back to their office. I got a good price from them but I'm not about to give away my SS# easily.

By the way, he also mentioned about the "Patriot Act" after 9/11. That was mentioned also by another poster.

So, for all others out there that has the same situation, you don't have to give your SSN. Walk away if they insists.

    Lets see what happens next.

I got my new 2007 Camry LE Auto last weekend. price paid after rebate 17589 +TTL. That was in San Diego, CA.

I cannot wait for Toyota to give the customers $1000 cash rebates for all 2008 Camrys. They are only giving them a $500 cash incentive and that is for a 2007 Camry.Since the 2008 Honda Accords are here now and Vehicle stability control with traction control as a standard feature (still an option for all Camrys), some people might reconsider buying one.
  • valueaddvalueadd Member Posts: 8
    Hey SD_ENG,

Which dealer did you go to? I am looking to get something this weekened and would love to call them up now to get a similar deal.
  • sd_engsd_eng Member Posts: 3
It was Toyota of Chula Vista

I was thinking the same thing, but it depends on the ride and pricing of the new Accords. A new EX-L will cost about 28,700 with delivery. Last I looked, there were some Camry's around with vsc for a bit less.

Bought an Altima about 3 or 4 weeks ago and they gave me the same lecture. I told them I'm not financing and I don't really remember my SSN. So, the salesman just wrote down a random number. :confuse:

:confuse: I have a 2007 TCH with 7400 miles on it.
I wouldn't be interested in trading except the dealer has an '08 on the way with a color I like better.
    Here's their proposed deal:
    '07 trade value: 23,000
    '08 sticker: 27,500

My cost: $4500 plus taxes. Is this a fair deal?

    Thanks!
  • jjyangjjyang Member Posts: 42
I assume that is not a base 08. Do you have a base 07 or one loaded with NAV, etc?

Irrespective... it sounds like a raw deal to me. But then again, it amounts to $375/month assuming you had it for exactly 12 mnth. That would be a steal for a 12mnth lease! If you got the dough why not.
  • aseetaseet Member Posts: 8
    rebate was $500.

fyi it has just been upped to $750 so you should be able to buy a camry le v6 for 22950 out the door now.

Might be a "fair deal" but it certainly is a lot of money to spend for a paint job. :)

Other than subtracting 7400 miles and going to a newer model year, there is no benefit as the 2008's are basically the same car.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750

Well, $4500 is very decent deal if you can get fed + state credits...remember the person who buy your used Hybrid will not get any credits.

So I'm told the best deal I can get for a 2008 LE automatic is:

    $20,090 + tax + title

What is the ACTUAL invoice? The dealer told me he would give me the car for $300 over invoice. Is that a fair deal? PLEASE HELP!!!!
  • bella1291bella1291 Member Posts: 4
I have found 2 07' Camry LE's with automatic transmissions in my area. Is it reasonable to offer $18k not including TTL. I can get an 08' CE for the same price. The only difference is the keyless entry and power driver's seat, correct? I don't see why they wouldn't sell the 07' LE with AT for 18k. There is a $750 marketing support incentive and a $750 cash to customer incentive.
  • bella1291bella1291 Member Posts: 4
I just looked it up because I am going to pay cash also. It states on the IRS website that any business receiving over $10,000 in cash or a cashier's check or a money order must file a Form 8300. They have to include the payee's social security number on the form. This is to prevent money laundering and tax evasion also. Strangely, a personal check does not constitute as cash. I dislke so many strangers having access to my identity.
  • mcdawggmcdawgg Member Posts: 1,722
Yes, the only difference between a CE and LE is keyless entry and power driver's seat.

"Strangely, a personal check does not constitute as cash."

A personal check, bank check, cashiers check, money order, IOUs, chicken eggs etc... is not "cash". Cash is United States Currency either in coin or "paper".
  • bigmike2bigmike2 Member Posts: 96
It's all about being able to trace the flow of money. If you pay in cash, you can give any name you like. If it's a check, it's got a bank account that it has to come from, with attendant ID requirements, etc.
  • riddlermythriddlermyth Member Posts: 40
    Bella,
Please let me know if you are successful at your offer of 18k + TTL. As I said, I am in the market for one, and was told by a dealership that I'd get it $300 over invoice...

    THANKS!!!
  • bella1291bella1291 Member Posts: 4
A cashier's check and money orders are considered cash by the IRS. Look it up at IRS.gov Form 8303.
  • youmeyoume Member Posts: 11
It is true. However, we got to use the ads to get the deal. I myself got a LE for that price 19500 out the door, a TCH base for 22400 (out the door 24400)just last March. The dealer i got 2 camry was Power Toyota of Irvine. Ads i used to beat from was Elmore Toyota.
  • thangthang Member Posts: 1
Based on what I've been seeing on the internet, I believe I got a great price for my 2007 Camry Hybrid which is supposely "fully loaded" but that's a definition hard to define because it doesn't mean all the options available! Anyway, here's what I think matters most towards my purchase price but keep in mind it's not everything on the list and please do tell me if I may be missing something:
    1. Leather interior & heated seats and mirrors
    2. Moon/Sun roof
    3. Spoiler
    4. Navigation unit + 4 cd changer
    5. Aluminum wheels

    Total price of vehicle: 29,684.
Walk-out price with fees and taxes: 32,225.
    Purchased back in April 2007.

Just as soon as anybody hears the price I had paid for the car said I paid too much for it! Some claims they have relatives working as mechanics there said the price should be about 27-28K for that car the most but I think it's all baloney. Unfortunately, this being the very first new car I've ever purchased, I don't know really know but am getting tired of what I'm hearing so to end it once and for all, I'm hoping we can help each other out here, that means the new buyers as well on how much it really cost or should cost to buy this car. I don't care if I paid too much for this car, at least I'm learning through facts instead of opinions so would you kindly share your buying experience with us?
