To rajunks: both look like good deals to me. I have researched only the Camry. I assume you have researched both cars and know that 07 Camrys got many complaints about their transmission, which may have been fixed (by software, as the hardware is the same?) in 08. What's the base price (including destination) on the Camry? The OTD is low; is there no sales tax where you live?
  • rajunksrajunks Member Posts: 13
I always ask for just the OTD price - they started with 19 as base price and then came down to 19100 OTD - includes 3.17% tax...
  • mayurjshahmayurjshah Member Posts: 37
so, to confirm, this is for a 2008 Camry LE Automatic...for 19100 including TTL? What region of the country are you in/what dealer?? Thanks!
  • donegaldonegal Member Posts: 49
Good Price?? This 2008 Camry Hybrid has a MSRP of $31,119. Offer made to me was $27,984. Only thing to be added is sales tax. Car includes the Upgrade Package with DVD Navigation,
the comfort and covenience package, the leather-trimmed seats package and the moonroof package.
  • jhs70jhs70 Member Posts: 213
I don't know where you are, but I would say that for my area, the DC area, $27,984 would be an excellent deal, if all you had to add to it was TTL. Can you verify that freight is included in the $27,984 number?

    Good work! :)
  • riddlermythriddlermyth Member Posts: 40
This probably is TOTALLY unrelated... but if you're in the DC area, do NOT buy from Darcars (Frederick, MD). Bad experience, in which the end I walked out
  • laneybaylaneybay Member Posts: 3
I just drove home my fully loaded 2008 TCH and the dealer would not budge on the MSRP price of 31,168. I would say 27,984 would be a great price.
  • donegaldonegal Member Posts: 49
Yes, the freight was included in the $27,984. The dealer is located in York, Pennsylvania.

A reporter from a national newspaper is hoping to talk to consumers who purchased a car recently instead of waiting, fearing that prices may rise as the dollar weakens. Please reply to ctalati@edmunds.com no later than Monday, October 1, 2007 with your daytime contact info.
  • jhs70jhs70 Member Posts: 213
I've been told by the moderator to put comments like that in the Dealer Ratings & Review section (see edmunds.com splash page).

But anyway, I've heard lots of similar stories about darcars in general (doesn't seem to matter which badge). I was trying to do a negotiation with the Frederick store over the internet and while at first very interested, the sales guy started getting combative so I just baled out. Who needs that? And I don't recall that I lobbed any hand grenades or anything....

  • jhs70jhs70 Member Posts: 213
    In that case, nice job!
  • riddlermythriddlermyth Member Posts: 40
Sorry, Im rather new... and couldnt find where to put my remarks about certain dealerships. Any chance you could post a link?

Also, since I will be buying soon - could you tell me the "process" of negotiating car prices through email/ online? I have only attempted on the phone (which I have always failed), and of course in person.

    Thanks!

What are people's thoughts on a quote of 18476 + TTL for a 2008 Camry CE Automatic? I can get an additional $400 for College Grad discount and may consider negotiating the holdback be 'heldback' from me...:).
  • riddlermythriddlermyth Member Posts: 40
I would think that's an awesome deal :surprise: ... cause the lowest I've been getting is 19000  ... but I'm new at this thing!

We bought an new camry on 9/25,
and we make a very stupid decision: bought the toyota extracare program.
Now we want to cancel, called toyota customer service,
they said they haven't got the paper from the dealer yet.
So i have 2 questions here:

    1. have anyone canceled extracare program within 30 days?
    what's your experience ?
can you get the full refund back without problem ?
If you have difficulty to get money back, what do you do ?

    2. which way is better, ask the dealer to cancel it
or ask toyota customer service to cancel it ?
I prefer not to deal with the dealer again,
they just won't let me go if i don't give them more money.

Finally pulled the trigger on an 08 Camry LE Auto (no options) with 5 miles on it

    MSRP = 21735
Price Paid = 18357.77 (yes it is 2008)
Total OTD = 19102 for VA where tax = 3.17%
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
If you feel there is a chance you would miss the 30 day cancellation date, I would send a registered letter to where it says on the contract. If it is the dealer, I would also copy Toy cust service. It it is Toy cust service, I would also copy the dealer.

That way you'd clearly meet the cancellation terms of the contract, and would have signed receipts to prove it.
  • ning883ning883 Member Posts: 2
thanks for reply, that's a good idea.
It's just 1 week since we signed the application for extracare program. My concern is will they play tricks, give me trouble for canceling this ? Even though both dealer and Toy service claim i can cancel it in 30 days.
Never dealed with such thing before, want to see if anyone has this experience before.

As I said before, I paid $18,000 for my '07 manual transmission CE (including destination) with carpet floor mats, side moldings, and mud flaps. But an automatic adds about $800-900, so $18,476 sounds VERY good, plus that additional $400 off from Toyota's recent grad program. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
  • colinblaircolinblair Member Posts: 1
$28,448 fully loaded. 36 month lease, $440 a month nothing down.
  • d4fd4f Member Posts: 6
There must be a major dealer cash incentive to get it for 18357. I am curious since I just ordered an 08 LE V6 and they took my offer of 21840 with very little negotiation; about $150 over invoice. I wonder if I could do better?
  • riddlermythriddlermyth Member Posts: 40
could someone please help me out? no matter what, I am not getting ANYTHING below 19,000 before tax and all on a Camry CE!!! any tips on how to negotiate...?
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
Different areas of the country, have different competition levels, and tend to go cheaper. Without knowing the specifics of your buying area, you may be at the lowest typical level. Additionally, certain Toyota regions have additional cost fees to the dealers (like the SouthEast has SET which is approx 600 per vehicle). If you absolutely need to go lower, then it may cost you time and travel to go to another dealership and find your ride elsewhere.

here's an 08 base at Fitzmall for 18,380
  • ckcarpriceckcarprice Member Posts: 29
Per Edmunds invoice price is 19,520 for V4 Auto and no other options. Did you get any special discount? I.E. college Grad
Did they include floor mats and could you share dealer name?
    Thanks
  • riddlermythriddlermyth Member Posts: 40
So I was looking into getting the college grad discount, and was told that I have to finance the whole thing through the local Toyota dealership. Is this true, or a scam?
  • d4fd4f Member Posts: 6
I know TDA is "legit," ie, not a total BS profit padding fee like doc fees.
But, I can find no reliable info stating it is something the dealer MUST pay on every car, like delivery. If the dealer has to pay it, that's fair; but if not, can it be used in negotiations?
  • d4fd4f Member Posts: 6
It's true. I tried to get it and financing through Toyota was required.
  • rajunksrajunks Member Posts: 13
    No - no named discounts.
    No floor mats ($105)
got from toyotaf.darcars.com - they had several to choose from...

Does anybody have experience buying Camry in twin cities area? I am looling to buy XLE 4 or 6 cyl. I don't get good internet quotes from dealers. I don't really have to buy Camry. It is one of the top choices. Thanks.

I live in the atlanta area and have received the following quote:
    SE v6
    Leather
    Spoiler
    Mats
    Tint
    25975 + tax + title fee

At first I had several dealers tell me they can match the price and have the car built to my specifications. As of late they are telling me all SE v6 come with sunroofs and the sports convenience package. My question is, if the car is going to be built to my specifications why will these accessories be added?

Look also at www.fitzmall.com if you are in Virginia area. They are no haggle online inventory, so you can research and shop from the comfort of your home.

Just want to second kiawah's suggestion. Just got back to New Orleans with my new 2007 Camry XLE V6 yesterday. I wanted Vehicle Stability Control and emailed dealers in Houston and New Orleans who had them in stock offering them $600 OTD excluding taxes over the invoice price of just under $27k shown by Edmunds and Consumer Reports. With holdback, this was offering a quick profit of about $1000 without much work. I was also going to finance part of it through Toyota credit which probably would get them a few extra perks. I also mentioned that I could buy the car at Fitzmall for 26,973 + $99 doc fee and I was offering them the additional amount it would cost to fly up and bring it back. Only got a couple of offers back and they were way higher. One explained that they had lots of "dealer adds",i.e. useless addons to increase dealer profits. Another tried to tell me invoice was $28k.

Contacted Brian at the Fitzmall Gaithersburg location. Made the arrangements. If you start far enough ahead of time, you can fedex the paperwork and have everything done before you arrive and the salesman will meet you at the airport to deliver the car. In my case, other considerations rushed things, so he picked me up at the airport, took me to the dealership, showed the car and we signed the papers. No pressure, no trouble, everything was exactly as advertised.

    My deal

    Camry XLE V6
    Heated Seats
Vehicle Stability Control (heated seats are packaged wit VSC)
Preferred Accessory Package V1 (Mat Set, Glass break sensor)

    MSRP $30,700
    Delivered price $26,937 + 99 doc fee.

BTW, it's a wonderful car. Rides as good as or 2004 Avalon. Got over 30mpg on the trip home.

bigmike2--I also bought at Fitz and also from Brian C. Exact same experience, although I only had to drive back to VA and not LA.

TO RAJUNKS--I would seiously reconsider before going to darcars. Even for a cup of coffee.
  • bigmike2bigmike2 Member Posts: 96
Typo correction: The package with mats and Glass break sensor was Z1 not V1. Also got wheel locks.

Looking for 2007 camry LE in anywhere surrounding Delaware
Please reply with out the door price.

  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
What? Are you expecting someone to do your shopping for you?

Go to www.fitzmall.com, find the model you want with the features you want, get their MSRP, invoice, and sales price.....head on over to your local dealer to negotiate!

If they match the price you got a good deal. If they don't, you can shop elsewhere, or head on down to Fitz.
  • camry1987camry1987 Member Posts: 4
Don't take that way i want to know if somebody got deal
in that make it easy plus I am new buyer so I can get atleast idea how much to pay.

    Guys,

Just got a quote from a Chicago dealer for 2008 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder base model: $19,571 plus documentation fee of $58.48, taxes and license fees. What do you think? Is it a good price? Should I bite?

    Thanks a ton!
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
    Great deal....take it and run.
  • rts3rts3 Member Posts: 26
Are you sure? Somebody in virginia paid $19100 for 08 Camry LE4 Auto, inclusive of everything (Tax, Titlle, etc.) - no rebates, no trade-ins...this is in MD.
  • mayurjshahmayurjshah Member Posts: 37
I called the dealer in VA that you mentioned (Darcars) that the other person got in on...and they said that was with some incentives they were running last month...and not going on anymore.

That deal was a long-shot and who knows how they made that happen

We cannot do everything for you.
You really need to look on edmunds.com (link at top o this page). Also check the prices at fitzmall.com which has a variety of models and trim lines, whose prices are good and who will sell you the car at the price they have listed. You may be able to save a little more locally, depending on you bargaining skill.
