It was reasonable to be concerned about hybrid battery replacement costs in the early days of the first hybrid model, the Prius. Much less so now. Today, there are Prius cars with 200K miles and the batteries are still working OK, although probably at a reduced level. I know of no reason why the TCH should peform different.

All hybrid components are guaranteed for 8yrs/100K miles, including the battery (longer in some states).

The Prius model has been out long enough now for us to know if this was a serious problem. So far, it isn't.

About one month ago, I paid 28,112 on a 31197 sticker on a loaded 2009 TCH w/ Navi, roof, leather, cargo net, mats, bumper applique (it had it) at Queensboro Toyota in NYC. Got a lease rate of 2.9% (.00131 money factor). If I had got the car one day earlier I could have paid .00050 money factor (1.2% interest) and $20 less per month, but that was on a 2008 model. I'm paying 383 per month including taxes with 15K per year and I had to come up with $2000 due on delivery. Deal probably still available. Salesman was honest as the day is long (a rarity) and gave me the best numbers the first time out that nobody could match, or even come close.

Love the car and I bought an upgraded DVD (v8.0) from the black market to get around the speed lockout on the Navigation so I can fully use the Navi and phone while driving. I mean, my passenger can use the Navi and phone while I'm driving, right.

What is a good price for a 2009 Camry base, 4 cylinder auto, with no options? I configured a Camry base auto on carsdirect, and I was shocked to see the price over $20,000.

I am in the NYC area. Are there any good dealers in the area you guys recommend?
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
go to www.fitzmall.com, and see their online no haggle pricing. If you can't get a local dealer to match their price, jump a train (or plane) to DC, take a little vacation if you want, and drive home.

You have about 1400 bucks to work with.

Looking for prices paid for this car Hoping to buy this week No financing needed
    Will purchase in WA state
  • furrycutefurrycute Member Posts: 33
Which Fitzmall dealer do you recommend? The one in DC?

And are the prices posted on Fitzmall's website the final price? I know the prices there look really good, just want to know if there are anymore negotiations that need to be done in person.
  • furrycutefurrycute Member Posts: 33
Another question I have is, the models I am interested in are all in Maryland. Will the DC dealership transport the cars from Maryland if I buy from the DC office?
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
The one I'm familiar with is the Toyota dealership in Gaithersburg. Their pricing is what it is, they don't deal any (that I've ever seen or heard). For out of state purchasing, they don't even charge the 99 doc fee. Compared to what I can find down where I'm at (in a not so competitive area)....is I have not been able to beat their prices.

Give them a call to see what they suggest about the car you are looking for, they may even have one coming in or could get you one. They were extremely helpful when I was buying.

    Happy hunting.

    Hi,

I have received a internet quote as 19730 + 189 doc fee + tax and fees from one of the dealers in Northern NJ for Camry LE 09 (no options). Is this a good deal?
The buyer is willing to negotiate a little further in person. How much should I pull down to?

    Please suggest.
  • furrycutefurrycute Member Posts: 33
Thank you for the help. Will call them some time next week and will go from there.

I went for a test drive in a used 06 2.4 Camry and enjoyed how smooth and refined it was, I havent test driven a used 07 as of yet i'm just not into the looks of the new styling is there much of a difference in performance between the older vs new style? i'm currently leaning more towards the 06 even though i havent drove the 07.

In the LA Times advertisements I have recently seen 2009 Camry LE's advertised for very close to $17,988, although most dealers state they have 5 at this price, or "at least 5" at this price. One dealer's ad stated 10 at about the same price. Today, I see a copule hundred off of that, $17,788. at Elmore Toyota.

While casually looking, I saw an ad today for a base Camry (Not the LE, so without power seats and keyless entry) for $16,498, at Power Toyota in Irvine Cerritos, and Buena Park, with "at least 5 at each location". I am not employed right now, so I can't get one. :( For $1,290 + the tax on that, I certainly can live without a power seat and keyless entry. I adjust the seat one time, and never move it again, and for three decades I have used a key to open the door. Man, 16.5 for a new Camry, even if it has a four cylinder engine, is awesome. Well, considering that gasoline is almost four dollars a gallon here, maybe a four-banger isn't so bad :)
  • furrycutefurrycute Member Posts: 33
Did you read the fine print on those ads?

Here in NYC I see ads with good prices too. But when I read the fine print, it usually says that you have to finance through the dealer in order to qualify for the advertised price. Which means the dealers make back the difference by charging you a really high interest rate.

I would bet it is a manual transmission. Only a few nuts (like me!) want (have)manual Camrys.

I am looking to buy a Toyota TCH in Michigan, but i am having trouble finding a dealer that will discount the car and where I don't have to pay the state Tax, since I am importing it into Canada the sales tax does not apply. I know other Canadians who have bought differents brands of cars without paying the sales and got the cars discounted but nobody who did the same thing with the TCH. Can anyone tell me what dealership who I could make a deal with. Thanks.
  • larry1larry1 Member Posts: 29
No, there is no fine print, and the cars have automatic transmissions. I don't think any Camrys are made with manual transmissions.

Here is a link to part of the ad that I just now scanned from Saturday's LA Times, showing the $16,498 price for a base Camry with an automatic transmission:

That's a GREAT price for a base Camry. I wish we had similar deals here in NYC.

I would appreciate it if someone could provide some advice as to where to negotiate from on a Camry LE I4 A/T in Northern CA with no options. From what I have found, $19k is the invoice price. So would you try to negotiate from $18.5k assuming a holdback of 2-3%? The preliminary quotes I have received so far have been around $19.3k.
    Thanks a lot.

Purchased a 08 LE Auto for $20450 out the door with Tax(7% in FL)TT....took advantage of the $1000 rebate for 08.

Second car is a 09 SE Auto with Wing and Matts for $23000 out the door with TTT and will take advantage of the 2.9% apr for 36 months.

I had 2 dealers give me the same offer..guessing its the end of the month, etc

    Tax and DMV fees extra.

    Total OTD Prices was 20700

Wow, that's a great price then. Just for your info, Camrys are made with manuals - I have an '07, and '09's are available with manuals.

Lowest no haggle internet price for 2009 Toyota Camry LE in the DC-Baltimore area we've found is at Antwerpen in Clarksville.

Base Price: $19,273 (cargo and floor mats included)
Tags, licensing, 2 years registration fees: $217
Tax (6%): $952.38 which includes a $210 tax break for a seemless vehicle trade-in worth $3500 (had vehicle appraised at Carmax previously)
    Processing Fee: $100

Total walk out price: $20,542.38 (including cargo and floor mats)

We were able to have Castle Toyota in Baltimore match the price, but they wouldn't accept my trade-in at Carmax's value, wouldn't throw in the mats and the attitude of the owner/top manager was flat-out nightmarish.
  • acdiiacdii Member Posts: 753
Basically a package 2 deal, the UP package, moonroof(why is it called that?), heated mirrors, mats, etc. Sticker $28,329, my out the door cost, thats tax title and license came to $28,500. Finance rate is 6.39% with a $1000 cash back debit card from the bank. All said and done, this is 27,500 after the rebate, I would say it was a good deal.
  • rajeshdrajeshd Member Posts: 6
I got it from Route22Toyota in N New Jersey

    Actual breakdown

    Sale Price - 18900
    Tax 7% - 1323
Doc fee - 299(correction from the previous post)
    DMV - 254
    OTD Price - 20776

    Color - Black

I had to negotiate with them really hard for couple of hours to get this price. Also, I guess month ending was another factor.
  • wvgasguywvgasguy Member Posts: 1,405
All said and done, I would say it was a good deal.

As explained many times before, who knows? Your tax rate is different than most of us reviewing this so the real question is what did you pay for the car BEFORE Taxes, lisc and fees? When you add all that in a deal we have no idea what you really paid for the car. In my State we only pay taxes on the trade difference. Then it's 6%. I've read a lot of posts paying a lot more and sometimes on the full cost. It varies widely across the country. What was the discount from the MSRP?

The bank card is a sweet deal, that would put your effective loan rate to around 5%. If you pay off early then it's even better. (Although I can get a 5% rate right now at my Credit Union)
  • mvperez4jesusmvperez4jesus Member Posts: 231
Thanks so much, like i said before, it is the best deal so far on a camry 09 LE in NJ posted. I have seen $20500 for an 08, but considering the price increase and no rebates on 4cyl. is a very good deal. besides you have an 09. Enjoy yoour car. did u get the actual finacing rate?
  • acdiiacdii Member Posts: 753
I didn't trade anything so I paid full taxes on it :( My tax rate is 6.5%, title license and docs fees are around $350 or so. I don't have the paperwork with me, but the actual price before anything is added was ~$26200. It roughly came out to about $2100 under MSRP on the Hybrid. The dealer I got it from didn't haggle or anything, I basically sent them an email through their website asking, I bought a Prius from you last year, can you sell me this car for 28500 out the door with TTL? I get an email 10 minutes later saying we can work with those numbers and sure enough, out the door that is what I paid. They kept asking me if I wanted to sell them the Prius, but I didn't have the heart to tell them I already sold it and made a killing on it.

Just thought I'd give an update -

I picked up my new silver 2008 Camry LE today. Made the decision finally after visits to 3 different Toyota dealers to test drive etc and went back to one on Sunday and made a deal. Went with the 08 due to the $1,000 rebate and overall lower cost which kept the sales tax and the excise taxes (which we have to pay here in Massachusetts every year) a little lower.

Paid $18,103 for basic LE with carpets and mats.
MSRP was $21,075 plus 199 for mats and 660 for delivery for a total MSRP of 21,934

Thanks for advice and Good luck to all!
  • rajeshdrajeshd Member Posts: 6
Thank you. I didn't get the 4.99% rate but negotiated from 7% down to 5.20% as it was my first mortage of any kind and they said I need to have a better score to be eligible for that. One big mistake that I did was not checking my credit score before approaching them. But, anyways 5.20 is not that bad.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,590
5.2% is pretty good.. My credit union is still at 5.29%.

    Congratulations on the new car!

I'm very considering a TCH with the Nav system, but one thing that is holding me back is the Nav lockout while moving. Do have info on how to get the 8.0 DVD nav software? A quick google search didn't return anything.

    Thanks,

I live in south east MICHIGAN. This is what I've been offered. for a toyota camry 2009 LE auto transmission.

    sale price 18 998.00
    destinsation 660.00
    doc fee 180.00
    6% sales tx 1190.28
    title fee 15.00
    plate trans 8.00
    total 21 051.28

also, there was fine print that said all rebates go to dealer. Should I fight this?
Should i get the mats included with this price?

I'm just wondering if this seems like a good price.

    Thanks guys!!
  • captainbotcaptainbot Member Posts: 28
I bought a new TCH load with everything but the NAV. 25k out the door.
    Why no NAV?
When I sell or trade my car in 3 years, the NAV technology will be so old it will detract in value to a buyer.

Besides a hand held, goes car to car.

I am getting 39.66 mpg on last tank fill up.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
Looks pretty good. www.fitzmall.com has 2009 LE's about $400 cheaper, which includes the floor mats, no doc fees, and destination included. The DC area is generally more price competitive than other areas of the country except for CA, so your price is probably pretty good for your area..
  • wvgasguywvgasguy Member Posts: 1,405

Yeah, they'll probably move all the roads. :)
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
It will probably take much more than 3 years for it to be a "problem" (it just won't add much of it's original cost back in additional resale after 3 years), but eventually the nav will be very antiquated. The car will still be on the road in 10 or 20 years, but the factory nav will be a joke then compared to a portable nav you'll be able to buy for $99 or less at that time.

Where did you buy the car? Did that include leather?
  • h8radarh8radar Member Posts: 9
Thanks for all the great input on this car. Here's what I ended up with:

    09 Camry Hybrid
    Comfort & Conv.
    Leather Package
    Moonroof
    "UT" Upgrade pkge w/ NAV
    Pref Accessory Pkge

    MSRP = $31,367
    Paid = $28,406 (plus 3% VA sales tax a $200 doc fee)

I asked the dealer to match Fitzmall's bottom-line price of $28,406 and they did. I agreed to pay the VA dealer's half of their doc' fee (normally $400). This dealer is 5 minutes from my door and I was able to retain all the perks offered as a Leesburg Toyota customer. I may have saved $200 going to Fitzmall but wouldn't have gotten the added perks.

Like any car in reasonable demand, dealers who had few TCH's would not budge much on the price if they had only a few in stock. The dealer I bought from had about 10-12 TCH's in stock, and 2 identical to the one I bought. I also had my check in hand on the last day of the month so that helped too.
  • loves2readloves2read Member Posts: 48
bought a Jasper Pearl Camry Hybrid today in Forth Worth TX area with pretty much same packages as you--dealer had only 2 TCH in stock---and only one w/light interior.
Moonroof and the leather package w/power seats
ours also has spoiler, pin striping, tinted windows, and maybe remote start---can't remember--did not use it so maybe not
was.quoted 30000 on the phone after I sent an Internet request--
    msrp list was 31986.
Nav package was only "satellite ready"--got XM at discounted price
we got better than Blue Book on our trade so my husband was happy.

It was the first of the month so there were no specials and our area is BUSY--cars are not sitting on the lots so did not think there would be much more later--Had one guy call me after an Internet quote request and told me that his dealership (in different but close town) were not discounting TCH from list because they were so popular...

we were not financing and we had difficult time finding the light beige leather interior with power seats---might could have gotten a better price but went to three dealerships dong test drives
one did not have any hybrids, one did not have tan leather and did not want to search for TCH that did. ---so this deal seems to be OK--maybe not great--but not that bad.
Now just hope the car works out to be a keeper...
It is going to take some getting used to with the smart key and push start and the shift configuration--
getting a clear bra installed as well--anyone done that?

I went to look at a 2009 camry, metalic gray, sun roof, very nice, but a 4 cylinder, listing price 26.000. I have a Hummer H3 23,000 miles, 5 cylinder, vortex engine, red, sporty, they would only allow me 19,500 because of gas prices. It gets 19 miles to the gallon, I was not trying to trade it because of gas prices, its because i cannot see to back the thing up without a backup camera, they still would only alow me 19,500 for my Hummer and would not budge on the price, therefore I would have to give them my 2006 Hummer with only 23,000 miles plus 6,000, I just could not see doing that, any comments or suggestions as to what i should do? This dealership was in Durham, North Carolina, and they just didnt want to even try to come to terms with me on what I wanted

    Thanks
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
    Rebecca,
In Raleigh as well. Break this deal apart into two pieces, and see if you can optimize further.

The real problem I'm sure is the Hummer, so try taking to Carmax on 70, who will give you a price on buying it outright. I doubt the Toyota dealership would want it on their lot, so they'll have to auction it out. You can also try selling it yourself.

Check www.fitzmall.com in Gaithersburg, for good online prices of Toyota's. That will give you a good understanding of a reasonable purchase target.

    Good luck
  • wvgasguywvgasguy Member Posts: 1,405
    I have a Hummer H3 23,000 miles

The market value of a vehicle is what it will sell for. If they undervalue it then sell it on the open market and then buy what you want. However if Hummers are not selling well (and you're getting better than most people I think at 19mpg) you can't expect a dealer to put a lot into something they can't move. Check Edmunds for the trade in value and then factor in the current gas pricing and they may not be that far off.

UPDATE, I just checked used prices on Edmunds and a "clean" 2006 with automatic has a trade in value of $19,599. Unless your's was loaded, they don't sound that far off in their pricing. Might not like it, but still .... it is what it is.

When you consider that you can get a TomTom or Garmin for only a couple hundred bucks, and be able to move it from car to car, and get updates for it easily, the built in nav units don't hold their value well. There are some reports showing that cars with built in nav actually sell for less than those without it. The Nav for the Camry is about 1400 if you want to install it yourself. Compared to a tomtom that ranges from $199 - $399, 1400 is pretty steep. Another advantage of after market GPS maps is you can have it at eye level, you don't need to take your eyes off the road to look at it. One thing I truly liked about the Prius I had was the speedometer was just a glance down from the road, unlike all other cars where you have to completely look down to see the speedo. Another thing about built in nav, you cant take it with you if you go on a trip and get a rental, but the portables you can.
