Could you please explain how the quoting and how bying a car online works? I thought the only way to buy a new car was at a dealer? am i wrong. are the quotes ive heard mentioned just pricing services like kelli blue book?I'm looking for a camry and the local dealers for a auto le with abs '04 is 20,600..thanks sean

Under the Edmunds homepage, select the car and model under the "Free Price Quote" section. It will give you a list of dealers based on the zip code you enter. The rest is intuitive. These requests go to the internet/fleet deparment of dealerships (not the sales department - these are they guys you typically meet at a dealership). Typically (though not always the case), the internet department is able to give you a price that is less than what you would get if you walked into a sales deparment at the dealership. The quotes are real #s that you can buy the car at (NOT KBB estimates).
Not sure where you live, but in the Los Angeles area, its pretty difficult to find an '04 LE auto WITH abs (i checked with a bunch of dealerships). But $20,600 is an outrageous price, especially since the ABS option costs roughly $300. FYI, most dealer quotes in this area are typically around $16.5K - $16.8K for an '04 LE Auto.

Besides Edmunds, you can just e-mail the dealership sales or internet managers through their websites telling them what you want and that you want an out the door price. Also add that you are e-mailing other dealerships with the same requests.
For me I got a few OTD price quotes and still several gave me just the price of the vehicle and nothing else, no fees or tax and title prices were included.

Ones price was a little higher and they made me feel like they were doing me a favor by lowering it. But I would think the quotes are intial quotes and that you may be able to do better than that.

Has anyone here bought a car through AAA and if you did, how were their prices?

A post over on FW reports that Marietta (GA) Toyota is advertising LEs for 14,995. OP said the ad makes it sound as if it's any LE left in stock at that price. Since all the LEs in their inventory sticker within a range of only $200, it sure looks like it's any LE for under $15K....
  • joecarnutjoecarnut Member Posts: 215
    HI,
There have been some good prices advertised here in Southern California. Advertised is $14995.00 and $15377.00 for 04 Camry LE. That may be better than some of the internet price quotes I have got previously.

I was wondering what can I expect to pay in fees, advertising fees and TTL in this area.
What are they going to try to hit me with?
What fees are legitimate and what are phony?

Thanks for any help as we would like to take advantage of these prices but are afraid they will try and get us in extra fees etc.

With a 2004 price quote, the first thing to know is if the quote includes the destination charge and $1000 Toyota rebate. If the quote is "plus fees" or "plus DMV, tax & license" or something similar, then it includes the rebate & destination charge. Quotes I have received usually add $40-45 for doc or DMV, sometimes $5 for a state tire fee. You add these fees to your quote and then add the sales tax rate for your home address -- not the rate for the dealer's location. On top of that you add the license fee -- probably about $180. That should give you the OTD (Out the Door) price in California. Depending on your particular sales tax rate, your OTD should be within an added 10% to your price quote.

The $1000 rebate is supposed to expire on 8/2, but I would still assume that figure in your offering price, since the 2005s are already on some lots, which increases pressure on the dealers to sell the remaining '04s. As you can see in these posts, some folks are getting excellent deals.

  • joecarnutjoecarnut Member Posts: 215
    Was that out the door?
    What kind of trans?
Congratulations on your purchase and let us know how you enjoy your new car.

I am looking at purchasing an extended Service contract for our new Camry. So far the best deal that I have found has been $1,275 for a 7 year/100,000K Platinum Protection Plan. Is this a good deal, or am I being taken to the cleaners?
  • stevgestevge Member Posts: 19
From which dealership you purchased the car? Is Carpet Floor/Trunk Mat set included? I am in Central New Jersey.
  • stevgestevge Member Posts: 19
Besides the dealership name, from whom you purchased the Camry LE auto with ABS? Carpet included? Thanks! Enjoy your new car.

Two dealerships that I recommend in the Central Jersey area are Dayton Toyota and Crystal in Green Brook. ABSOLUTELY AVOID FREEHOLD TOYOTA AND SANSONE'S AUTO MALL.

I live in the Philadelphia, PA area and am interested in a particular 2004 Camry LE w/ABS. It has power everything, deluxe audio system (am/fm, cassette, cd player w/6 speakers) and child proof locks. It has 7,800 miles on it and the dealer (Conicelli) is asking $18,500 for it. Is this a good price? I'm hearing all sorts of different stories!

Also, has anyone had any bad experiences with Conicelli (Conshohocken, PA)?

I need advice ASAP! Thanks everyone!

This is the first time I requested Internet Quote from multiple dealers so I can do some comparison before I head to the dealership. Once I find the best internet quote the dealer sent me, is it possible to bring the price down even more at the dealership? or is that the final price that they would offer as the internet quote?
I live in LA area, and this is the best one I get so far. Do you think there is still some room for the price?

2004 V6 LE Camry - 5 Speed Automatic (standard option) no additional option added
    MSRP $22,959
    Your Price $19,988
This quote includes all fees except Sales Tax, License fee, and a $45
    Documentation Fee.

Re: #1105 --the message about the 2004 LE w/ 7800 miles... doesn't sound that good to me. You're buying a used car. Not sure what the pricing on your option package, but people are buying new '04 LEs for around $17,500 or less, with automatics & no added options except maybe mats. Check out kbb.com for blue book value of your car with those miles.

Re: #1106 -- If the $1,000 rebate is still in effect, the invoice plus destination fee totals about $19,325 for the V6 LE (depending on zip?). If the rebate has not been extended, your price is probably pretty good... you can always call the the dealers whith the higher quotes and see if they will beat your best quote.

Anybody know what the status of $1000 rebate in CA? It was running through 8/2. Has it been officially extended? (If not dealers still want to unload the '04s and I would make offers assuming they want to sell cars).
  • suesyesuesye Member Posts: 3
Hi,I'm living in Central NJ too, would you mind tell me the dealer and salesman's contact information? I hope I can get the same deal as yours since the rebabte has been extended.

    Thank you very much!
  • kenshirokenshiro Member Posts: 16
Was there a rebate for Camry LE V6? I thought the rebate was for 4cyl only.
  • pslpsl Member Posts: 2
Just walked out a toyota dealer with a copy of the quote. Included are fees like
    T.D.A $213.00
    M.A.F $275.00
    2% Holdback MSRP $397.00
    PIO Holdback $103.00
    1% Finance Reserve MSRP $198.00

Was told that I have to pay all the fees including the 1% finance regardless of whether I finance or pay cash!!!

    Are the fees legit?
  • bernie3bernie3 Member Posts: 48
You might be right. I haven't been shopping for a V6, but I don't recall seeing anything saying it was limited to the I4. Then again, these rebates seem to vary in different parts of the country.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
You are indeed correct. Toyota rebates are offered regionally, and are often different from one area of the country to the next.

I am in the process of buying either a 2003 or 2004 Camry base model both of which are used in TX. Both have auto trans. I have several questions. I offered $14000 on the 2003 and the dealer offer is $15500 + TTL and on the 2004 I offered $15000 and he came back with $17295 +TTL +?? for a total of $18575. Are their any charges that I should not pay besides holdback charges and advertizing and are their any rebates in TX at this time. I know that I am supposed to start the deal with the dealers actual cost instead of the MSRP but I can't seem to find it on these cars. Can you tell that this is all new to me???
  • zelenazelena Member Posts: 2
I live in Houston,TX and looking for a good deal on new Base 2004 LE. Can anyone help me with a copy of actual invoice..Is there any site where people post this? It will make haggling less painful.

  • bernie3bernie3 Member Posts: 48
Go to the new car section 0f Edmunds and start clicking on sedans>toyota>camry>2004 LE (auto or manual) and you'll be led to the invoice price... it's about $17,800 I believe. If you can get a new one for $15,500, new, you're doing very well.

Also use the "get a quote" section to get dealer quotes from dealers near the zip you enter.
  • cristolincristolin Member Posts: 3
Hi, the dealer I went to is DCH Brunswick Toyota in North Brunswick, the salesman's name I believe is Tat Cheung. I cannot find the telephone number at the moment as I'll be moving this weekend and everything is packed up, but you can find the number in yellow book I believe. Good luck. Actually after I signed my name on the purchase order, I believe I could have cut the price several hundreds more if I insist a little more. By the way, I paid the total price in cash.

    Hi ,

What is your best Price experience on Toyota Camry 2005 Model any type - LE, XLE
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
It is impossible to answer your question because it is open ended. Where are you? Toyota incentives vary across the nation.

Also, what options are you interested in?

Go to new cars here at edmunds, click on Toyota, then Camry, and you can find the average selling price of a car equipped the way you want.
  • walletwallet Member Posts: 38
I think I posted this here last week:

A few dealerships around the country have been advertising LE AT blow out sales. Pretty much any minimally equipped (msrp in the 20,700-20,900 range) LE with AT left on those particular lots was marked down to 14,995 last weekend. There were several reported in CA and another in Marrieta GA (those are the only ones I can recall off the top of my head; we were tracking them over on Fat Wallet).

Tho you would certainly not know this by the prices I have been quoted in MA. They prices I'm getting on Camrys is practically begging me to buy an Accord LX with AT.

    Hi ,

Can anyone tell me if a 2004 XLE CAMRY 3.0 Litres/V6 with HU package_ sunroof, leather seats, power front seats, 6CD, automatic, carpet, going for $23,905 (NOT inclucing tax + license) is reasonable?????

Well, I am trying so so so hard to look for a Japanese manufactured camry . And so far that is the only one I found from hundreds, and I am in the Southern California region. Color is Stratosphere Mica, which is a dark Navy with grey interior. Well, not much of a choice here.

I would really appreciate if anyone can response to me. Thanx a zillion.

    Cheers!!!! : )

I am a 51-year-old woman who is trying to get the best deal on a 2004 Camary XLE, 4 cylinder. The salesman tells me that I must choose between the $1500 cash-back and the 2.9% financing. He says he can't give me both. Is this true? So, in essence, is he saying that the dealership will get my $1500 cash back incentive?
    Thank you.
    Vicki
  • axiomowneraxiomowner Member Posts: 76
The dealer is right. Toyota is offering either the rebate or the financing. Not both together. The incentives are direct to you. The dealer doesn't get anything regardless of which you choose. I'd suggest taking the rebate. You can find loans in the 3.5 to 4.2 range if you have A credit.
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
There are calculators here at Edmunds that allow you see which option is better for you. Just go to New cars and click on financing and you will find them.
  • cyhcyh Member Posts: 1
Sales rep. provided me a great price over the email. Later when we brought the email copy and visited the dealership. He claimed that he made a mistakde on calculating the payment and price.

He claims that this is a honest mistakes...??? I do not think so. Bad experience !

    Still shop for the Camery...

You sound like a candidate for a car-buying service, such as carsdirect.com. If you belong to Costco, their service is also good.

You could also go here to Edmunds' new car section and email several dealers in your area who should respond with their best offers. Most of the time you will get at least one good quote by this method.

    Good luck!

... OTD it was $18,583. Mineral green with tan interior, automatic with no option except air bags. I live in the San Diego area. Beautiful car!
  • bernie3bernie3 Member Posts: 48
Excellent price -- congratulations! Can you share a few details, such as: the dealer's name?, how you got that price? (internet quote, walked in and made offer, dealer advertised one at that price, or..?). How many miles on the car? Another writer in this forum got the same price in Oxnard and you both did very well. I'm sure others would like to learn more about your experience. Thanks.
  • caldreamin2caldreamin2 Member Posts: 10
O miles on car, brand new. Went through internet fleet dept. of local dealership. Rather not say dealer name, because did not have great experience (phone quote did not match inventory avail, had to haggle to get orig. quote), but will say Mossy Toyota in San Diego is advertising all 2005s at $3K off MSRP, so they are $17.6K, if you haggle with another dealer they might beat the price. Don't walk in and pay retail, call or email the internet/ fleet dept. of your local dealer. Good luck!
  • bd21bd21 Member Posts: 437
I suspect you traded in a car, because that price you stated is too far below invoice. Although, 05 Camry's do have a $750 rebate until the end of the month, your price is very hard to believe. Please break down your entire deal, so we can see what you paid.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
Your car did not have ZERO miles on it. I am almost positive that Toyota does not ship cars without a short test run somewhere in the supply chain (Im thinking the factory).

  • bernie3bernie3 Member Posts: 48
That makes at least 3 California dealers that are offering the 2005 Camry LEs for around $17,000 -- the dealer you bought through, Mossy Toyota, and Toyota of Oxnard. Why buy a 2004 at this point? Glad I waited. There's some valuable info. in these posts if you read back a ways and track the conversation back a couple weeks.

MSRP on a 2005 LE automatic, with no added options is about $19,975. Can anyone confirm a $750 rebate on '05s in CA?
  • 307web307web Member Posts: 1,033
Whatever price you can get a 2005 for, you should be able to get a 2004 for well over $1000 less. The rebate plus additional discounting, plus a lower invoice price to begin with.
  • suesyesuesye Member Posts: 3
It's my first time to buy a new car,so I'd appreciate if someone here would be able to answer two questions about the rebate:
    1. How do i get the rebate? Filling the form after getting the new car and mail to toyota.com?
2.Are the OTD prices people posted here after the rebate or before the rebate?
    Thanks
