I gave them my price to them for camery LE.At first they did not agree. But they called me at the end of March to tell me to pick the car at that price because they need to sell enough cars in that month. When I went there they refused to gave me that price, and cheated me to buy Camery basic with that price. You know why?Because they already sold enough cars before I arrived.
I was so angry because they played in this way.You know I called them before I drove to there place. They said:' come on to pick up your camery LE'.But they changed the decision in 1 hour(my dirving time).
Sandy Springs is most unhumanity dealer I have seen. You guys if do not want to be cheated by other people.Do not believe them at any time!!!

I need to evaluate an offer for $27K OTD on a 2005 Camry XLE (with premium plus package, VSC & side air package, heated seats and carpet floor/cargo mats).

This effectively represents $228 over Edmund's TMV. (I only included the invoice, options and destination charge from the dealer's offer for an apples to apples comparison). The total OTD offer represents roughly $1000 over an "agreed upon" invoice price (this car isn't on the lot - must be ordered, so there's no actual invoice. Just a near happy medium between the dealer's number and what I've reviewed in several reputable websites).

I guess I have two specific questions really. One, Is $1000 (roughly 4.5% of the agreed upon invoice price) appropriate? It's the top of the range I had in mind, so it feels high to me. Two, am I getting hosed on fees? Excluding sales tax (3% in NC), I'm looking at $635 Southeast Region Toyota "administrative" charges and roughly $500 in documentation, tags & licensing. Is it just me or does almost $1200 in fees seem high? (It's been six years since I've bought a car.)

I liked the salesman. Felt he was generally very straight with me and he's with a reputable local dealer. I'm just having trouble feeling like this is a good deal (i.e. the dealer's making up for a lower starting point on the back end with the fees).

I'd really appreciate any thoughts or feedback.
    Thanks.

To the post regarding TX tax info - multiply the price the car is selling for (including destination fee) by 6.25 %. Add roughly $200 dollars to get the approximate out-the-door price you're gonna pay.

The big 3 cities will always have the lowest prices if you're willing to travel.

I recently purchased a new 2005 Camry SE 4-cylinder automatic with 16" alloys, spoiler, moonroof, fog lights and JBL 8-speaker combo.

    $22,666.00 MSRP
    $20,066.00 TMV Price

$18,963.00 (including $700 rebate) Plus Tax, Title and License

I almost purchased a loaded Mazda3 but I opted for the roominess, smoother ride, and reliability of the Camry SE. I think the extra money for the Camry SE was well worth it.

How available is XM, really? Do dealers stock the cars with factory-installed XM radio?

Playing around with the configurator of a Camry SE 4 cylinder on Carsdirect.com, I noticed that when you select XM radio, some other options become not available at the same time.
For instance, you cannot order XM and the subwoofer at the same time.
You cannot order XM radio plus cargo net at the same time???!!
You cannot order the SE Premium Package with leather seats with XM radio.

    What is this about?

Can you get an SE V6 with navigation and XM at the same time?
  • fullyloadedfullyloaded Member Posts: 2
I don't know if this will help but I paid 28,000 for a 2005 XLE 6 cyl. w/ navigation OTD. This top of the line with leather, premium package and all the options you mentioned. I reside in Northern California.

I know you're asking for the price of an '05, but I bought this car in '04 and paid 22,800. thats before taxes and fees. this was in north jersey. Its the SE model, V6 3.3L, Moonroof, in dash cd changer, camry floor mats..

    hope that helps.
  • 320cross320cross Member Posts: 1
This sounds like a great deal to us. What's the name of your dealership? Maybe we can get a similar deal. The extended warranty is a great deal at that price. It is so nice to have an extended warranty (as your car gets older- that's when things start going wrong anyway). We've been quoted lots higher than that.
  • guitarguitar Member Posts: 32
Sorry I'm a bit ignorant but what exactly are the differences between the standard and LE models? I understand the Standard is slightly cheaper.

The standard is a real stripper: no ABS, no keyless entry, black mirrors, etc. Can't get alloy wheels, sunroof, V6. I don't think I've ever seen one. Even the rental cars are LEs.
  • viveksviveks Member Posts: 17
Well it has the ABS, but yes no keyless entry, black mirrors and also standard has mini spare, no power driver seat. Also very few colors choices. Agree with lmacmil that no many people buy standard, the difference for me was coming to like $700.00 ( actually only $550 if you count the floor mats) between the two.
  • peanutsmanpeanutsman Member Posts: 3
Sorry to tell you but that's NOT a deal. I purchased a new 2005 Camry SE 4-cylinder automatic with 16" alloys, spoiler, moonroof, fog lights and JBL 8-speaker combo for $18,963 + tax, title & license.
I recently saw a sale around Chicagoland selling LE's with no extras for $15,995. There are deals out there if you can find them. I got mine at the very end of March, and the dealers were trying to pump up their sales quotas for the quarter. I'd say keep shopping!
  • sunnytdaysunnytday Member Posts: 1
Could you please provide me more information. Where in Chicago area did you see Camry LE Automatic (no other additional options) for $15, 995?
I am looking for LE Camry Automatic but the best that I could find was $17,289.
I sincerely appreciate if you could provide me an address, or dealership name in Chicago area where I can buy a car for this price.

    Thank you!!

I recently got an Internet quote - OTD $18,973. (in LA)
    [= $17,206 + Fees]

The above is for a Camry LE no additions.

Is this a good deal? Or can the price go lower?

Also, when it comes to bargaining with the dealer, how much extra leverage do I have if I pay in cash?
  • liaisonliaison Member Posts: 49
One of our local dealers on the Gulf Coast is running an add for an LE at $16,984. This includes the $1000 rebate which evidently has been extended through the month of April. As you know from reading this thread, SET charges more for Toyota's in the Southeast. He had 8 advertised at that price and when I went by late Sat. he had two left. Both were LE's and not the base Camry as I suspected when I saw the ad. I would say that $17,206 is a good price depending on the processing fees. I have seen those fees run anywhere from $499 in the Atlanta area to $299 locally. I am waiting for side air bags and would also like VSC but not willing to move up to an XLE V6. I can't help but think that the 06 will have side air bags as standard equipment since the Accord does.
  • peanutsmanpeanutsman Member Posts: 3
The dealer that had the Camry LE's for that price was Thomas Toyota in Joliet. I saw the newspaper ad a few days after it was in circulation, went there, and they actually had a bunch at that price! Just remember it was right at the end of the month/quarter. I looked at their newspaper ad link on their website, but there's no price next to the Camry this week, just the rebate/finance deal.
I almost bought one that day but then I saw the Camry SE and decided to go with that model. I got a great deal from another dealer after a little research and hunting.

Make an early morning trip down to San Diego this Friday, and be leaning on the door of Mossy Toyota when it opens. I did this a few weeks ago and got a Camry LE with automatic, no other options, for $15,999 plus tax, license, etc. I got there at about 10 before 6 AM, but no other customers showed up until 7:30. Course, if you decide to come at 7:20, that will be the day everyone comes at 6:00..... :-\

Nearly every Friday, the dealers in San Diego have a special sale ("Two only at this price" etc.) like that. Others are Toyota of El Cajon, Bob Baker Toyota, and sometimes Poway Toyota. They sell out really quickly, of course.

Toyota of El Cajon had a deal going for "Any Camry on the lot for $2,000 under invoice". That included the $1,000 rebate, of course. Give them a call.

You might just start looking in your own local paper every day, early, to see if anyone in the LA area is doing this too.

My friend is purchases a new Camry XLE 4cyl and isn't a good negotiator.

OK, so he buys the car and when I look at his paperwork later that evening, nothing makes sense. The agreed upon price is MUCH higher.

He put 7 grand down and has perfect credit and finances for 60+ months 5.25+. When I look at his receipt this 21.000+ car suddenly is costing him 27,000+ The paperwork is so confusing. I dont even see where they applied the downpayment. It starts with a "net price" which I assumed to be the price he and the dealer agreed upon before going in to the financing room, and then goes down hill from there.

It went like this: the Salesman and my friend agreed on a price. the trade in was a lot lower then what they had told him a week prior too. And there was a 299 doc fee that he paid. He then went into the financing Dept and that is when this price suddenly got all confusing to my friend. .

As of Tuesday of this week it's a done deal. Does he have any recourse?? Btw, the dealership (he went to) people are very VERY intimidating.

BTW the XLE is 4 cyl and doesn't have anything special. Just your basic package.

    Thank you
  • 307web307web Member Posts: 1,033
No, nothing can be done after the papers are signed. It is too late now.
  • jamisontjamisont Member Posts: 4
    Basically he got ripped off.
I think I am a bad negotiator too but I've learned my lessons b4. thanks to edmunds.com.
If they didnt put 7000 downpayment on signed document.,, I'd tell my bank to stop that check (Unless he paid cash).

    Hi,

I would like advice from Forum members on the email I'm sending to a few local Toyota dealers in the northern California region. Suggestions appreciated.

    Hello,

I live in San Jose and would like to receive an “out the door” quote (taxes, tags, doc charges, etc.) for a Camry LE with:

    - Automatic Transmission
    - Driver and front passenger front seat-mounted side airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags

    - Color (from best to worst)
    sky blue
    mineral green
    aspen green
    lunar mist
    desert sand

I am leaving on a business trip this Friday and would prefer to purchase the car ASAP, for cash, no trade-in. Please let me know if I've forgotten to specify anything and I'll be happy to reply.

    Cheers,

    Robert

Hello: Would you please provide the dealer's information that offered you this price? I am also in Ohio and are looking for a purchase soon. Thanks.
  • viveksviveks Member Posts: 17
    Robert,

Don't you want to get floor mats too.. that is an option on Camry :) On a more serious note, you might want to mention V4/V6, also I would ask for both base price as well as OTD price.

BTW I went through same exercise recently and didn't have a very good experience with Hayward Toyota... they tried to play some old car salesman tricks

    Good luck!!

    Robert,
I agree with the previous post that you may potentially get taken advantage of without more specific wording in your email to dealers. If you check previous post #1817, it may be of help to you. Also, if you read earlier posts, several have received very good deals from Bay Area dealers so you may want to start with ones that others have had positive experiences with. Best of luck.

Thanks everyone for the information posted on the board. Special thanks to the author of "fax attack". I used the same technic on 6 of our local dealers. I got some deals back. They are more than CA's $15999. Please reply with any suggestions:

    1) Camry STD with floor mat, keyless entry, and extra mile aluminum for $17,300 plus tax, TTL, no other fees:
    2) Camry LE with Floor mat for $17,315 plus tax and TTL. No other fees
    3) Camry LE with Floor mat, extra mile aluminum , and Tint windows for $18,150 plus tax and TTL. No other fees.

    Any comments? Thanks.

Hi guys. I'm looking to purchase my first new car, and one of my current choices is the Camry 4-cylinder XLE, cloth interior. The lowest quote that I have so far is $20,850 (dest. included, power moonroof, side airbag, alloy wheels, and the carpet accessory). Could anyone with previous buying experience provide me with some feedback: is that quote low, high, or typical? Thanks.
  • happycamryhappycamry Member Posts: 48
Glad to hear the technique worked for you, too, YCZ. I don't know that Dallas market, of course, but your prices seem fair. Just don't let them jerk you around on title fees or last minute charges. My dealer in Orlando, Central Florida Toyota, charged about $200 at the time of sale and then sent an $80 refund in the mail. That was a nice surprise which lowered our OTD price even lower. They were great to deal with.
  • boberonicusboberonicus Member Posts: 7
Sent 7 email RFQs to 7 Toyota dealers in the Northern California Bay Area from San Jose to Redwood City. Specified LE 4 Cyl Automatic with optional curtain airbags. 7 Quotes returned with OTD prices ranging from $19.6k to $20.6. Guy with $19.6 quote "forgot" to include the airbags in his quote. Went with $19,810 at Piercey Toyota San Jose.

Biggest issue with email quotes: You send a request with specifics. They reply with a number, but they DON'T include your original message. So the quote is meaningless. Each time I got a quote with dollars only, I shot back a reply asking for the specifications AND the price. That's how I found the guy who missed the airbags.

Paid via check but the dealer wouldn't let us drive the car home because the insurance on my 1993 almost dead Taurus is liability only, and if my check bounces and the car is stolen, etc. they're out of luck. My stellar credit didn't change this decision, bummer but understandable.

Interesting that the pressure in an internet sale moves from the sales floor to the finance office, where they try to sell you extended warranty, $350 Scotchguard, $1000 for 10 oil changes, etc. Didn't expect the finance guy to be such a sharp salesman. Said no to all his pitches and gave him a check from my money market account. 80 minutes start to finish.

    Robert
  • viveksviveks Member Posts: 17
Congratulations on your new car, I'm sure you are going to enjoy it :) I had similar experience, the role of selling money making extras are moved to finance guy. In my case the guy was little understanding, once I said no he didn't try to push anything.

I think dealers try to reply in their *cryptic* way, just to keep enough room to get little more out of you. I had mentioned in my RFQs that I would like to choose any color I like and the price quote did say "Color: various" but got the typical car salesman response "You can't get Camry LE in Phantom Gray at this price anywhere in bay area ... but if you really like it I can get you a good price". Of course I walked away, next day got the same color at $200.00 less at a different dealership.

Anyway too much whining about car dealers :) Enjoy your car cheers!!!

Yesterday took ownership of an 05 Camry XLE 4cl with premium option (leather, aluminum wheels) , side air bags, floor and trunk mats. Indigo Ink with grey leather. Gorgious! MSRP $25500 or so. Paid $20400 after rebate plus TL. Great deal. Great service. Used Edmunds.com. This is my second deal with this dealer in two years, both through Edmunds, both great experiances. Internet saleman was Matt Dimmitt. I've done over 50 car deals and this was the easiest and most satisfying. This dealer is highly recommended.

I want to buy a toyota camry LE with side airbag. We visited toyota dealer yesterday. Camry LE
    Dear: toyota of plano
There is $1500 Cash Back available.
    MSRP: over $21000
Invoice: $18570 (include airbag, but not include destination fee)
    Cash Back: -$1500
    Our price: $18800 driving out
    dealer: $19300
I feel we can settle at $19000, but we walked away. Could you give me some suggestions how much is fair to me (sales tax in our area is 6.25%)? TIA
  • yczycz Member Posts: 25
Thanks, happycamry. I really appreciate your "long" posting. For sure, the information technology helps average "Joe" car buyers like me. It was kind for you to share your experience. The quotes I got are about 5% profit for the dealers over
the real cost (invoice - TDA - MAF - holdbacks - 1% Finance charge), which I think is fare. I like www.carbuyingtips.com too. I think Jeff has put together some really nice stuff. I recommends the site to all my friends.

I have a question for you: did you buy any sorts of extended warranty for your
camry? I have a 96 Camry (with 100,000 miles, never in the shop).

    Thanks. Have a nice weekend.
  • yczycz Member Posts: 25
Sorry for the late reply. It is the Extra Mile Aluminum Wheel pakage (A1) with MSRP $659, invoice $509).
  • yczycz Member Posts: 25
    wcai:

Do you use the Excel spread sheet on www.carbuyingtips.com? I used it.
    I took the invoice price - TDA - MAF - 1% Finance Charge - 3% holdback,
then add 5% profit, then minus $1,500 to get the selling price. Tag and title are
about $150, and dealer usually charges $50 document fee and $50 inventory tax
(do know why). I tested drive a LE auto with floor mat (msrp $20,896) at Toyota of
Plano this week too. I asked for $17,400 + tax + title (about $18,700 out of door).
They turned me away. Vandergriff Toyota web site lists the same LE auto with flooe mat for $17,413. Try them too. If you need information from me, leave a email,
    I will contact you.

    Happy shopping.

I ran your figure throug my spreadsheet. $19,300 sounds a fair price. They may make 4% profit on invoice over you. If you can make to $19,000 driving out, great.
  • bbbethiebbbethie Member Posts: 1
What is the cheapest way to find the invoice price? I'm looking at the standard with an automatic transmission. So for the best offer I've found was $18,867.63 out the door. Can I do better?
  • yczycz Member Posts: 25
I use KBB's (www.kbb.com) pricing information. It is very close to Dallas area dealers's invoice. The only different I found is the destination charge: KBB lists $540, dealer's $585.

I am also trying to get a Toyota camry LE with sideairbag. I am in baltimore, maryland. I visited Darcars dealer in Rockville, MD. Their internet price is $17744. Also they are giving $300 off coupon. So, They can give me the OTD price $18650. But they can not accept my offer $18000. If you come, we can visit them together, maybe we can get a good price around $17000+tax+TTL.

Just thought that I should share my experience with this board:

I located the car I wanted with this central NJ dealer (LE w/ Side Curtain Air bags in Black). Spoke to the Sales Manager over the phone, Offered him 17344 after 750+400 (College Grad rebate) + Tax + Title etc. The Manger accepted the offer in 5 min. However, he refused to fax any paperwork about the deal, but asked me to come over.

Of course, I was 80% sure that he is just trying to make me come over and will hit me with other fee etc once I am there. He told me that the Doc fee was $95 and Tags were 47.50 (which I was transferring from my old car, the price would be 247.50 in case I needed new tags), which made me even more suspicious.

Since the dealership was only 20 min from my house, I decided to go over. To my surprise, every thing went very smoothly. It took me about 3 hours to (a) choose the car, I was not sure about the interior color (taupe or Stone- finally for Taupe) (b) test drive (c) finish the paperwork (d) prep the car for delivery. Total out of the door cost was $18603.64. Financed the amount with TFS @5.9% for 60 months.

    Here is the breakup-

    LE w/ side airbags 18494
    Tax (NJ- 6%) 1109.64
    Registration Trans 47.50
    NJ Tire tax 7.50
    Doc Fee 95.00
    Total 19753.64
    Minus 750 + 400 (College Grad Rebate)
Final out of the door Price = 18603.64

When calling dealerships, its better to speak with the sales manager. (I think) The salesmen can not offer such aggressive pricing over the phone. I called over 20 dealerships in my area, was able to speak with the manager at this one place only, and got the deal. Most salesman said that the offer was below the invoice minus 2% holdback and hence not feasible. When I went to this dealership to pick up the car, the manager asked a salesman to handle my paperwork and the salesman was surprised to see the numbers and double-checked with the manager.

The reason I did not follow the popular 'Fax attack' method was because I needed a car very quickly and did not have access to the fax machine on that day.

    BTW- the basis for my $17344 ( 18494 - 750 -400 ) number was darcars dot com.

    Thanks.

I'm looking to purchase a 2005 camry LE with auto tranny and mats. The lowest price I've received is $17682 + Tax/tags/fees. I'm in NJ, so tax is 6%. How much lower do you think I can get this price? I plan on visiting 3 other dealers tomorrow. Also, rebate seems to be $750, but I've read other posts here about a $1500 rebate. Which is correct? Thank!
